The noodle soup was unlike anything I've had before. It was savory, subtly sweet, and a little fragrant herbal. This place was awesome. I saw it recommended on Reddit so we ordered delivery on a Friday night. Delivery was only $2 (+tip) and they don't upcharge the prices because they don't go through a delivery service. The only downside is you can't see the delivery progress but I felt like a kid again where you had no idea when the food would show up and you'd just sit there watching the window (it took an hour at peak Friday night). The pad Thai was delicious, not super sweet like some places make it. The crispy squid basil was also excellent, and they cut a couple small holes in the container so it was still crispy when it got to us. The prices were very reasonable as well. I went here today for a small dinner and it did not disappoint. I took the time to read their reviews before going and noticed other yelpers commenting about lack of decorations and customer service. I'll be honest, I also felt at first that our server wasn't friendly. The food completely made up for her lack of customer service. We ordered the catfish as well as the boat noodle soup. Both had the most amazing flavor and did not take long to come out. I also noticed that once we engaged our waitress in more questions and conversation, that she is just a more reserved person and not unfriendly. I went to Thai Square after hearing from a bunch of friends that it was amazing. I've actually been a few times, and overall it's good, which is why I keep going back. But this last visit just wasn't as great as I remembered. Maybe it was just an off day. I usually get the chicken pad thai, and it's really good. It has solid flavor, well cooked, and satisfying. This time though, it just didn't hit the same. Still good, just not that good. I also tried the crispy basil squid because I saw great fan reviews about it, but it ended up being way too salty for me. Overall, I'd still give it a 4. Still one of the best Thai spots in the DMV, hands down. Thai Square is always consistent with both flavor and service--I've never had a bad meal here or noticed any drop in quality. The basil crispy duck is still my go-to: perfectly crispy, sweet, tangy, savory, with just the right hit of basil. I honestly haven't found another Thai place that does it as well. The Pad See Ew is also really good. Their papaya salad is delicious too--you can actually taste the ebi in it, which adds such a nice depth of flavor. Honestly, I read the reviews, but I was not expecting it to be this good. Came here for a mid afternoon date, and we definitely had a great experience. We got the lunch specials. The chicken with the cashew nuts and the beef fried rice. Deets below: Beef fried rice: I'm not going to hold you. I think this might be some of the best fried rice I've had in the DMV. I didn't even have to add spice or soy sauce, but I chose to just because of who I am as a person. The rice was really really good and had enough of a hint of char to really set it off. Chicken with cashew nuts: I'm not typically into this type of dish, but this was delicious. The sauce was so good, especially when you ate it with the white rice. Potstickers: veryyyyy good Thai tea: a bit too sweet for me but very bomb and you can tell they're using high-quality tea. In all, we had a really good experience. Service could DEF be a bit friendlier but honestly, he tended to us when he needed to and the food came out quickly. Win-win. Can't wait to come back Price: we went for the lunch specials. For an appetizer and an entrée, it's only $13.50. This is a steal, considering the fact that the portions are pretty huge. We ended up or also ordering two Thai teas, and an order of potstickers. Calamari (appetizer) was cut into small rectangles which was a nice deviation from the traditional rings. More substantial bite... And a duck dipping sauce. Very nicely prepared. I took the spicy duck basil entree to go - which came with a side of jasmine rice. I didn't even look at the menu when I sat down because I knew I wanted drunken noodle (which was delish as it is practically everywhere), but I took a look at the menu after ordering my entree and read the description of this duck dish and couldn't resist. I love duck. Thought it would be sauteed or braised. Didn't notice the duck was batter dipped strips and assorted irregular pieces, so apparently I didn't read closely enough. Was deep fried with some basil leaves tossed in - which made it dry/chewy. The duck I don't think was the freshest either. It needed gravy or a sauce, that might have helped. The breading was too heavy so I ended up fixing it up when I got home with some Japanese barbecue sauce, chili oil and sesame oil drizzled. Service was very fast 'n friendly and the ambiance is welcoming. No liquor sold here, just wine, iced tea, and beer - so I had a Sapporo. Street parking was abundant and I got a space right outside the restaurant. Me and my ParkMobile app for the win. This experience overall was mid. No alcohol and average food. My friend and I stopped by Thai Square yesterday evening for dinner. I haven't been back for almost five years and remembered that their CRISPY SQUID WITH BASIL is phenomenal. Sadly, we didn't get that this time around, but the one app and one entree we got was still great. GRILLED SLICE FLANK STEAK - 13.50 Good amount of steak and it was seasoned pretty lightly, which I prefer. The steak was tender for the most part (some a bit chewier than others, but no big complaints). There was a nice dipping sauce, too. I'd recommend. PAD SEE EW - 15.95 +0 for chicken, but you'll have to pay additional for more expensive protein like beef, shrimp or seafood. Nothing crazy, but the pad see ew was solid. A bit too oily, but that's what makes it good! A good amount of chicken and Chinese broccoli. The wide flat noodles had a lot of flavor from the sauce and "wok flavor". Overall, good and I'd recommend if you want a basic/simple option. I forgot how tasty and affordable Thai Square is. If I want Thai food that's close by and cheap, Thai Square is a great option. read more

One of the best parts about my to-go order of pad thai was the portion size! I had enough for both dinner and lunch (and I can eat a lot, lol). I will say that flavor wise, I have had better, and I've had worse. I thought the flavors were average, and perhaps a bit heavy on the oil. Granted... I'm not too picky with pad thai! Couple of highlighted dishes, Crispy Squid with Basil and Som Tum (papaya salad). The squid is very crispy and does have a kick to it. The papaya salad is with fermented blue crab. So if you are not use to eating fermented food be caution. Other than that it's packed with a lot of flavors: salty, spicy and sour. Overall, good foods and great service. This is a simple one: Thai Square may be small, but still serves some of the best Thai food in the DMV, period. We love the Pad Prik King. While available with chicken or seafood (plus string beans), we love it with stir-fried tofu which absorbs the kaffir lime leaf infused, aromatic red curry. The beef drunken noodles is a must! The spice levels were exactly what I wanted as somebody who enjoys and appreciates spicy food. Each and every time I go to Thai square, the same things are ordered. This time, my party and I decided to switch things up, and everyone got something that they haven't yet from here! This time around, my partner got yellow curry, I got crispy squid with basil, my friend got pad ped pla dook which was yellow catfish sauteed with chili paste, chili pepper, Thai eggplant and rhizome, and my other friend got pad ped moo pa which was pork sautéed with eggplant, bean sprout and chili paste (I think since she asked for mild they took out the chili peppers). I'm so happy I got crispy squid after eyeing it visit after visit. The portion was large and I was super stuffed afterwards. The basil was crispy, the sauce was sweet and tangy, and I ate the lettuce at the end to go with the last few pieces -- super yummy. My friends compared the sauce with general Tso's chicken but better, especially since the squid was amazing and the basil was a nice seasoning. The yellow curry was yummy though I was hoping it would've had more heat to it. The pad ped moo pa tasted like pad see ew without the thick noodles, and the pad ped pla dook was super flavorful, but almost too hot for my liking...however I heard if you go to Thailand, most foods are so spicy past your normal spice tolerance, so it's nice to have that splash of authenticity. My friend and I also split chicken skewers. The peanut dip they serve it with has a nice texture, and the fish sauce with cucumbers was so refreshing, I actually poured it all on top of my skewer and ate every bit of the cucumber. We also discovered that they have thank you mints right by the register. Butter mints are always great after a flavorful meal! Super happy to have tried new things, and am still happy to report Thai Square is our go-to Thai spot. read more

Got recommended this place by a friend who lived in Thailand for a while. The restaurant is small and gets busy on weekends during prime time - how you know it's authentic and delicious. We got the crispy catfish salad to start. This was the dish that I came here for because I've not seen it anywhere else. The catfish was fried so thoroughly that it completely lost its shape and just tasted like fishy, umami crunchy bits. It came with green mango, onions, lettuce, and a sweet and tangy fish sauce dressing. The dish is basically a texture haven. I only hoped they gave us more dressing. For entree, we got Pad Thai and Krapow chicken. The pad Thai is good but on the sweeter side so if you prefer a savory stir-fried noodle dish I'd recommend Pad See Ew. I came here for the second time last week for lunch with colleagues. The service is always fast and they have one of the best lunch specials in town (1 app and 1 entree for under $15). Yes, you read that correctly! This time around i tried the chicken with cashew nut and it was AMAZING. it pains me to say this, but our go to thai place will no longer be our go to thai place. last time we came the crispy squid with basil was extremely tough but we just turned a blind eye bc like i mentioned, this has been our go to spot. today i came and placed a takeout order, & when i paid the number seemed a little high but i felt a bit like i was being rushed so i just paid. came home only to find out they added a dish that i never ordered to my bill? also gave me mango sticky rice instead of sticky rice. again im thinking oh well, mistakes happen. i give them a call and they admit to accidentally adding a dish that i didnt order. they then leave to speak with the manager & come back to say "we can refund one item if you bring the food back to the restaurant." mind you its the 4th of july, we have plans with friends after we eat & the drive is ruthless in this heat. unfortunately ill have to find a new spot read more

The food was phenomenal! I am new to the DMV area and when my nail tech told me their entire staff goes here when they want Thai, I knew I had to check it out. The flavors are authentic and you can taste hints of the open flame they cook over in the food. The food came out relatively fast and everything was a 10/10. Will be going back! Photos are lousy but we were eating so fast I forgot to take some! Only downside is the parking, it's off a pretty busy road. Mango coconut rice is fire! A must get if you eat here or not. It's refreshing and flavorful. We got drunken noodles and tom yom as well for entrees. The drunken noodles were filling and good, nothing to complain or struck me. However the tom yum said on the menu that it could feed 2-4 people. It definitely cannot, it can feed 1 if not 2 people MAX. Not to mention it was VERY expensive (the tom yum). I dont think I'll be going back. Just trying out all the restaurants around the block.
