Both times I've been to Dok Khao Alexandria, it's been kinda a let down. I had high hopes of this being a new neighborhood favorite of mine, but sadly, I don't see that happening. The first time I went was during their soft opening. They ended up giving me and my guests' plates to the table next to us. And when I did finally get my Pad Thai, it was very bland and underwhelming, to say the least. I decided that since that was during their soft opening, I would give them another try a month into them being open. This time, I got their Cry Baby Noodles, which is on their Cherry Blossom specials menu. It was similar to Drunken Noodles, but not as good, in my opinion. I did not like that they cut up the Shrimp in small pieces, instead of having the full Shrimp to eat. It was almost as if they were trying to hide the fact that they didn't actually put many Shrimp in the dish. Not sure if I'll be back. Probably not though. The best thing they had going was their beautiful decor. As far as the actual cuisine, nothing was nasty, but nothing was really good, either. Very mid. Overall, I'd give this place a 5 out of 10.

The space is so gorgeous! This is such a pleasant addition to the neighborhood. 2 hour parking validation after 4pm FYI! My partner and I got a nice spread of appetizers and entrees. The chive cake and gyoza were decent, but not mind blowing. I really liked the shrimp in hot pot but I was a little confused on why it came with rice. The rice was actually so good I wished I got curry instead to take advantage of it since I had a noodle dish. The creme brulee was honestly disappointing. Between it being a bit lukewarm and no crunch on the top, it was just okay. I don't doubt the other desserts might be a little better. Service was also a bit hot and cold, but it was a quiet night for such a big space so I'll forgive them for the table management. Overall totally down to come back and try more stuff!

The food is solid here. So, decent thai food though probably not exceptional. Will return anytime. Service is good and definitely on par with restaurant at same class. The ambience is ok. Some parts are nice but other parts feel a bit cafeteria but still nice overall. Probably too special without decor in the center. Booth looks nice. Red curry - well spiced. Very rich so not the lighter thai curry that some might look for. Good though Signature Pad Thai - had cha siu for this pad thai. Not sure if it is very different from standard pad thai but I like this one quite a bit. Well seasoned but not oily Mango sticky rice - this one is just ok, texture and mango is average

I loved this place! It was super cute inside without compromising the taste of the food. Everything we got was amazing, I especially loved the signature pad thai and the wonton soup. I'm a sucker for dumplings, but also the broth was great. The pad thai was spicy and flavorful. The chive cakes were dense with a strong chive flavor. Inside it was colorful and vivid, a gorgeous environment to eat and sip wine in (which was half off for happy hour). Our server was very good at giving us time and not pushing us. He got our drinks and apps order then came back for our dinner order which I really like when waiters do that. I will be back when I'm in town, because everything was fantastic!

Food: 5/5 + larb gai SPICY, but I liked it. I like when the spice level isn't automatically Americanized. I definitely didn't need the spice condiment tray for this. When I'm trying a new Thai restaurant, I always get the larb gai/papaya salad to see if they know what they're doing in the kitchen. Not only is the presentatiin beautiful but I could tell from the cut and taste of the minced chicken that it was ground in house. It wasn't overly cooked and was juicy from the chicken thighs incorporated into the ground meat. The best larb gai I've ever eaten and I've had a lot. + roti massaman curry with chicken SPICY, and GOOD. I've never had roti served as a waffle so at first I was like "hmmmm, I like to scoop and fold my food into the roti so IDK about this". With it being a waffle, I ate it more like a chip with guac. Hear me out. Dunk the roti waffle into the curry sauce, baptize it a bit, spoon more curry on it (like basting a steak), then add chicken and rice on top, eat like a chip. AMAZING! Because the roti is crisped, it'll hold it's shape. The presentation was immaculate. + coconut rice salad - If you like larb gai, you would enjoy this. The crispy coconut rice balls steal the show adding a nice crispy texture to the dish. In my opinion, it wasn't as spicy as the larb gai, but still spicy which I enjoyed. I kept looking at the menu after I ordered and ate my food, then finally decided to order this app, and I'm so glad I did. I don't recall ever seeing this on a Thai menu, so it's a stand out. Service: 5/5 + I made my reservation on Resy and although I arrived 40 mins there wasn't an issue (it was lunchtime on a Friday on their 5th day of being opening). + My server was appropriately attentive on a Friday during lunch hours. I only had to ask for water once (spicy food) any other time, she remember to fill my glass with water. She even remembered that I didn't want ice each time seh refilled my glass. + She said the coconut rice salad was one of her faves. + Any time I've come to one of these Pattana Restaurant Group locations, the service is always good. Can't even lie. Ambiance: 5/5 + GORGEOUS! + furniture made in Thailand + even the seating had Dok Khao branded on it (loved the attention to details) + not a grass wall vibe spot at all + CLEAN bathroom. No paper towels unfortunately (for the people who think air dryers are yucky). + trash can was empty, not overflowing like some restaurants. + the interior designers did amazing, I couldn't stop looking at how gorgeous the bar was Cons: - It's not closer to my house and now it's my new fave Thai restaurant. - Garage parking BUT they validate for 90 mins-2 hours. I don't like garage parking, but hate looking for street parking even more, so a win is a win.

I really liked this place. I was worried it would be too focused on aesthetics and not enough on food (the place is made for instagram) but that wasn't the case at all. Food was delicious, drinks reasonably priced, service on point. 10/10.

The Customer Service is great. The food was delicious. The store was beautiful and it wasn't loud and the place feels very bougie. We are definitely coming back. And my family loves this place.

Lovely ambiance. Service was a bit slow but the food made up for it. Best Thai food I've had in NOVA thus far. They have an extensive menu so I'll be back to try some more options. Highly suggest making reservations.

Super delicious and super cute ambience. The food was sooo good. I got the crybaby noodles and a couple drinks. The food took some time to come out but it was pretty busy for Mother's Day. Will definitely be coming back. Ka!

They walked us to our table and was so accommodating. On an extremely hot day like today (103F) it was refreshing to walk into a nice cool and nicely lit and decorated place. It was very relaxing. The parking was off the street and is free for 2 hours. There were plenty of spots available just at the front of the restaurant. We ordered the Whole Fried Flounder and the Massaman Curry with shrimp and for dessert the Magnolia Creme Crepe. I am partial to good Crepe dessert... and this place offered different selection. A plus! The food was freshly prepared and was very tasty. I would recommend trying this place out. You will not be disappointed.

4 stars for the food 4 stars for the ambiance…read more3 stars for the service on the water refills, which was sporadic at best. Last night I brought a couple of friends over to the Sisters Thai in Alexandria ... because I had had good experiences in the past. We were seated at our table of four, and had to wait 20 mins to be served water from the start. That was unusual - and although the restaurant was busy it was not packed, so the delay was odd. We ordered the food which was great - high recommendations for the branzino, the crispy eggplant, the roti curry and the mango & sticky rice. The water service was challenging; at one point during the meal when a server came to do a refill, she spilled the water on the table near the food dishes - apologized - but didn't clean up! (It was not a few drops - it was a sizeable amount that warranted wiping up since our group had to reach over for the food dishes in the center). She took off after right after spilling it - and didn't come back! So I eventually caught the eye of another sever and asked for the water to be wiped down. The evening went on - the meal really noteworthy ... but water was clearly becoming more and more of an issue - and this was critical especially considering that the roti curry was spicy! After yet another 20 minutes of trying to catch the eye of anyone with a pitcher I had to get up and request water from the bar area. So although the evening was pleasant it was somewhat disruptive with this lack of coordination - which is really is a basic of any establishment. I would go back again for the food - although I'm disappointed that I brought friends along to try the restaurant and the service was not as expected. As I write this I want to add that if it was a one-off with a water delay I would understand - but it was consistently overlooked, without a spillage being wiped promptly that started to create a less than satisfactory experience. Thank you in advance to the Sisters Thai for more training for their staff on enhancing the customer experience.

Great Food....& Ambiance to match!…read more I am slightly obsessed with visiting Thai restaurants around the DMV and this one does not disappoint. Set in Alexandria, off the 495 corridor, is Pasara Thai restaurant featuring a casual dining experience and vibe with interesting tables with wood carvings and artwork throughout. The lighting is nice and you can find intimate settings for a date night or tables large enough for friends and family. The food menu is crazy big, extensive and seems to have something for everyone. The food is usually quite spicy, so if it isn't your thing, as for mild flavoring! Everything I have ordered from the pad Thai, curry Thai dishes and roasted duck have been delicious....full of flavor and of great portions for the price point. This time around, I placed an order to go for dinner later, and the staff was so nice. I ordered Roasted Duck Basil & Fried Crab-Shrimp Balls. The duck dish was one of the best I have ever had. It had the right amount of spice, heat and flavor. Not to mention, loaded with stir-fry vegetable and a sauce that was finger-licking good.....simply, delicious!! My favorite dishes thus far, is the Pad Thai....very popular here and the Spicy Seafood Pad See Ew. If you're looking for spot for quick, fast casual take out or a nice night out....try Pasara then the theater across the street! You will not be disappointed. I recommend.

Was seated by a delightful young lady, and found the decor and layout to be quite pleasing; modest by elegant. As for the fare, it was indeed quite worth the walk. Ordered a bowl of Tom Yum and the Pad Thai Mun Goong. The Tom Yum was solid and quite flavorful, a flux of tangy lemongrass with the oniony sweetness of steeped scallions, and enoki mushrooms to provide some heartiness. The Pad Thai Mun Goong was a chef specialty pad Thai made with stir fried rice noodle, prawns shrimp tomalley oil (a crucial element for this version), egg and bean sprouts, naturally topped with green onions, peanuts and a lime for squeezing, and this also was quite phenomenal. Savory, sweet, a little tingle of sourness from the citrus in the mid-palate, and the juicy, briny shrimp balancing the dense carbs and rich flavorful sauce. All-in-all, I was well pleased this visit. As this is Padaek's second location, I hope they don't expand too much further/quickly and compromise on quality.
