This was our first visit to Galae Thai, and we quite liked it and will definitely return. Galea has visually appealing decorations, tables and chairs. We were the first dine-in customers when we arrived yesterday evening. We were promptly seated and provided menus and water. Service overall was excellent. I like that you can select your choice of meat for your entrée: chicken, pork, beef, shrimp, combo, duck, seafood or salmon. I ordered the khao soi (my current go-to Thai dish) and JP ordered the Galae noodles. For an appetizer we ordered the Crispy Wontons. I picked pork for my khao soi and the khao soi was delicious. I liked the size of the pork and noodle portions as well as the slight sweetness and moderate spiciness of my dish. One of the best khao sois I've had in the DMV. JP picked seafood for his Galae noodles which contains an assortment of vegetable including carrot, green bean and bamboo shoot. The Galae noodles were spicy and excellent. Much less stellar were the crispy wontons. The menu bills these as deep fried chicken and shrimp wontons. I didn't observe or taste any chicken or shrimp. All we got were circular hollow burnt crackers. The dipping sauce was good though. Parking after about 5:30pm can be problematic in the tiny parking lot up front. read more

Me and a girlfriend came before the movies for a quick bite. We didn't want to get stuffed because movie popcorn is a requirement. I LOVE their big mugs for their tea. Wish I had these at home. We started with some gyoza and we both had soup. The Tom Yum was so yummy! And it was perfect for the cold rainy day we were having. Service was great! Very attentive and patient with us. I got to try out this Thai spot for a late day lunch. The venue is pretty spacious with clean cut traditional decor, a large bar, and ample wooden seating throughout the space. Their menu features typical apps like chicken satay, gyoza, and chicken wings, and entrees like pineapple fried rice, soft shell crab, pad broccoli, and drunken noodles with prices ranging around $10-$25 per item. I sat at the bar as the place was packed (clearly a hotspot for lunch in the area), and ordered an apple martini and shrimp fried rice. No complaints with service the server was friendly and attentive even given how busy the restaurant was. The food came out swiftly, and the presentation was excellent, however the rice itself a bit underwhelming, the shrimp size was appreciated but the rice overall lacked much flavor. The duck had me going, "quack." Was that funny? I hope so, I worked on that joke all night still couldn't get it right. I got one of them ice teas, what you call them? Oh yeah, a thai iced tea. Not impressed, and quite honestly disappointed. Ok. So there's free parking but that's probably the highlight. We were greeted pleasantly and seated but after that I feel service went dry. I will say the ambience is very nice but the food did not cut it, and for the price I expected much better. My wife's $19 curry was more of a soup (and a small one at that) with essentially no meat. We counted 2 tiny pieces of red bell pepper for vegetables. She was extremely disappointed. My recommended galae noodles were nothing to boast about. For appetizers we got the garden herb rolls, which were just vegetables rolled in rice wraps. To be fair, that's what showed on the menu so I can't complain. read more

The crab rangoons were $12 for 5 tiny pieces that came with enough sauce in a single ketchup packet. The shrimp green curry was $21 and only had 5 shrimp. That's $4 each. Pathetic. I'm happy we found this Thai restaurant. It's located in a small strip mall and though the free parking out front was pretty full, there were always a few spots open. We came here for a quick lunch stop because I was craving khao soi. The decor inside is fun and a little dark. They have women's and men's bathrooms. The women's had two stalls inside. Our server was kind and quick to get our orders. My partner got the duck salad. He enjoyed it and ate every last bite. My khao soi was huge and I was able to take some home for leftovers. It was rich and sweet and had the perfect amount of spice for me. If you're on 95 and looking for a quick bite to eat this is a good stop. read more

Galae Thai has been in business for 20 years. I've passed this restaurant several times not knowing it was there. After watching a movie at AMC 24, we decided to ventured across the street for a nice restaurant. I was craving Thai so I was eager to give them a try. This restaurant 's ambiance was peaceful and unhurried. From the statues to the music, we felt like we were immersed in the Thailand culture. The server was pleasant. We already knew what we wanted because we viewed the menu outside. The food came in 10 minutes after placing the order. I'm no Thai food expert, but I always order the common dishes: pad Thai and drunken noodles. In my opinion, if you can't get that right, you are good with me. My husband ate all his food and I ate most of mine. The only thing missing for me was the red tofu. I love red tofu. The pad Thai meal I had included large chucks of fried tofu instead of red tofu. Only bummer. This restaurant would be a great place for a date night, dinner with a friend or a take out option. One of my go-to places anytime I come to the AMC to see a movie. The service is always friendly and the food comes quick, hot and fresh and the prices are very reasonable. Some of my favorites include all the curries (Penang is my fave!), pad Thai, and drunken noodles. Definitely check them out if you're in the area read more

I visited this restaurant last night and ordered the Pad Thai with beef dish. There was a little uninviting smell from the beef and the taste overall was not good. I believe there was to much MSG in the sauce which was very overpowering. I did not enjoy my entrée. The atmosphere and the spring rolls are the reason I gave them at least 2 stars. Every time I visit my friends in Alexandria, we stop for take out from Galae Thai. I always get the pad Thai and it is delicious!! I especially love their Thai tea. If you're dining in, they have a boozy version which is kind of fun. There is a waitress (whose name is pronounced like "Jeep") who is so friendly. I went to Galae while touring apartments in alexandria. I was looking for something quick and delicious and this seemed like the best option in the area. When we arrived there were about 2 others in a very large area, which seemed odd during lunch on the weekend. We had to wait for a while to get greeted and seated which was another odd interaction. When seated, our waiter was nice and personable and knowledgeable about the ingredients. They were able to to tell us which entrees were gluten free. We were happy and felt trust when eating. The ambiance is fitting of the place, with decorations resembling thai temples and art depicting different places of thailand. We thought it gave it a unique feel and added to the experience. The food was fresh and tasty, but nothing too memorable. I felt as though spices were lacking. My partner and I were not too excited about coming back and we would probably recommend it as a quick bite on a to go order. read more

This little gem is about 300 feet from my office. On the days I go in, I have ordered take out from here several times. So this is a review of not just one experience, but the last few times I got got food here, the most recent being yesterday. The inside is cute and has lots of charm, though I have never had a sit down meal there. I usually order online, which is easy and the orders have been ready very quickly. Yesterday I had papaya salad with shrimp and spring rolls. Truthfully, the papaya salad was a little limp, and dressing was a bit dull. The spring rolls however were fantastic. They were fresh out the fryer and perfectly crispy and chewy. A couple of weeks ago, I got PadThai with chicken. Very flavorful, with a good size portion. I ordered drunken noodles there the week prior and was not disappointed. It was piping hot and perfectly seasoned. I did ask for spicy level heat and they delivered.
