Been driving by it a couple of times and set a time to go and try today. I was not disappointed. The last couple of Pho spots that have opened really has not been great, this place was very good. I love how nice and spacious it is inside. Clean and simple set up. Service was very friendly and food came out super fast. For my first visit obviously I had to order a good amount to try. My wife and I had ordered one of the pork chop pho and one rare ribeye pho. I really loved the broth in my ribeye pho. It was smooth and not overly salty. I actually drink most of it which I normally do not. The filet mignon cubes over rice was super tasty and tender. The pork chops were as tender as pork can get really and was a perfect seasoning. I also had the chicken satay, which here I really enjoyed. They use chicken thigh so it came out perfectly grilled and soft. I liked the peanut sauce that they provided. Now for the fried chicken wings, these were lightly fried and not over cooked. So the in was super moist and tender. I let them sit for a bit because I know they would be super hot. Even after like 5-10 mins they were still super hot. The batter that they used was gave it some extra crispy bit but not hard. Will always be getting these. As far as the drinks I had a Thai ice tea which they did a very good job. My wife especially liked her drink which was some honey calamansi drink. I personally did not like it much but I'm more basic with my drinks. She said it reminded her of this drink she would always get when we traveled to Shanghai. Let me just say in advance, that I love pho! Sometimes I travel all the way to Chinatown just to have some good pho with delicious authentic boiled for hours broth. So, when I found Pho Tan nearby, I wanted to try it. The prices were decent, and the reviews were pretty good so I was really hopeful, but this place did NOT hit! We ordered the House Special Pho, Beef ball Pho, spring rolls, and crispy shrimp rolls. The broth was lacking flavor, and even my boyfriend who is not picky about food did not enjoy his pho. He said the beef balls weren't good either. The spring rolls were mediocre at best even when wrapped in the lettuce and dipped with the fish sauce. The shrimp in the crispy shrimp rolls was a little mushy and still had the intestine and waste inside... The only thing positive I can say about both rolls were that they were still crispy despite sitting in the takeout box. This was the first time I could not finish a pho bowl and my half of the spring rolls, and by the end of the meal I felt so uncomfortably bloated. We can't see ourselves coming here again. read more

Really love the soup, it's not overly salty yet very flavorful. There is a generous amount of beef in the soup as well. Super happy a pho place opened in Flushing that's not near Main Street. I got #2 pho with beef tendon and tripe. The broth was very flavorful and rich but it could use a little less salt or msg. The tendon was way too over cooked cause it was like jello. Personal preference that beef tendon should have some consistency to it. Might ask for a little less salt in the broth next time tho but since it was my first time, I wanted to try it exactly how they make it. The hot jasmine tea they gave was was amazingly aromatic. Pho tan is a new Vietnamese restaurant in flushing. There's definitely not enough of these in the area so I knew I had to check it out. The seating area is very spacious. Enough seating for all party sizes. I came when they were first opening so it took a while for the staff to check up on you but it was busy. They are probably better about it the longer they're open. Now onto the food. Personally I love banh mi and me and my friends got a chicken and a pork one. Unfortunately they didn't have the kind most places sell with the pate and sliced meat. But there's were pretty good nonetheless. Very generous on the meat portions, and they had their own sauce to add some creaminess to the sandwich. We also had a rice place with pork chop, shredded pork and egg crab patty. This one is just okay. The whole dish was dry but again, it was opening and they were busy so judging it with that in mind. Spring rolls were the thinner ones but they were packed with meat. No filler. Could be a bit more flavorful in my opinion but the fish sauce comes in handy. I personally didn't have the pho (sorry no pic) but I heard it was solid and you just can't go wrong with a bowl of pho. Overall this place is pretty decent. Love this new establishment. This neighborhood finally has a new place for local residents to go whenever we feel like eating out and too lazy to cook. This is a very family, cozy, and homey place. It deserves all the positive reviews and raves soon to come. The food tastes like you're eating in the chef's home dining room. Very homey and not greasy or oily. The prices are unbeatable and so affordable. They are very generous with dish size too. I have so much leftovers that I took it home to eat the next day. The pho soup was the best dish. If you are craving GOOD pho in flushing, come here! I used to live near a Thai Son before I moved and was craving pho badly. After trying around 4 other places around flushing, I was almost out of hope. None of them had anything worth going back for. But then I discovered this gem. The pho tastes the best in the flushing area. I still prefer Thai Son if they were next to each other, but it his the spot when the cravings hit. The portions are great, and it's a bit pricey but it's not too expensive. I always order the house special big bowl pho (sometimes with fish balls) and spring rolls. I wish they gave more spring rolls in the order (those are a bit pricey because they're really small and have 4pcs for almost $6 or 8 for $10), but I have returned to order here at least 6 times in the past few months. Everytime I ordered it was to-go, and they haven't disappointed yet. I spoke with the owner when they first opened and she was very nice. The staff in general are very friendly and it looks clean inside from what i see during pickups. I haven't had a chance to eat here yet, but I definitely will one day. Food is relatively cheap. We walked at 8:50p (they close at 9:30p) but they did not tell us until we were seated that we had to order quickly because they were closing. That should have been a hint to walk away but we didn't want to be rude. Within 5 minutes of ordering a guy had come with the iPad apologizing but asking us to pay right away. We did. While eating our dinner, there was a rush of activities around us. Lots of loud talking because they're rushing to close. I get it they want to be able to leave on time. But, this isn't service! It's bait and switch! I told the guy that they should have told us they were closing and we would have gladly left. But to subject us to all the clean up activity was just rude. No frills neighborhood pho place. Pho is pretty good! A pretty good portion. The bahn mi sandwich is also great! On the sweet side, but their bread is crispy outside and soft inside. We usually also get shrimp summer rolls which has always been fresh. I think the only thing we didn't really enjoy was the lemongrass chicken over rice, which didn't have much meat, but beef cubes over rice was good. We've also eaten here a couple of times, and have not gotten sick yet - which is always a concern for me when I get raw vegetables at a restaurant. Soup was a tad less flavorful than I prefer, but I added some fish sauce and all was well. Tendon was a little too mushy imo but the other meats were nice and tender. Bonus points for having piping hot broth for to go orders. I do wish they gave more basil and less cilantro in the herb pack. Pho Tan has some standout dishes/items (See below) that are fairly priced and offer tremendous value with respect to quality/portion/taste. Eat in is a fine experience, while the takeout experience is strong with solid/stable packaging and labels on every item. What Pho Tan does very very well: Vietnamese Coffee Pork/Shrimp Banh-Mi Sandwiches Curry (And Curry w/Shrimp Banh-Mi Sandwiches) BBQ Pork Crispy Shrimp Roll (This is a simple yet comparatively top notch dish, try it!) Thai Iced Coffee Local Scene: My favorite local Vietnamese place is just a short walk away in the 156th St Plaza ("156th"), and my favorite local Banh Mi Sandwich place is near the Murray Hill Train Station "Murray Hill". These are established businesses which Pho Tan is directly competing with and I measure Pho Tan against these offerings. Restaurant Experience: I dropped into Pho Tan on a weeknight, placed a big order of all my favorite Viet/Thai dishes and grabbed a seat for some iced Vietnamese Coffee. I love the space and window seats seemed popular. It was surprisingly busy at 9pm. The Vietnamese Coffee came in this cool to go cup that reminded me of the Magic Bullet blender thing with a sealed bubble tea style top. I would stop in just to grab one of those coffees, it was excellent. I tried the Thai Iced Tea on a subsequent visit and will definitely be ordering again. They don't get crazy with the half/half and it has a smooth/light finish. Food: Curry dishes are a bit light base-wise, but portions are generous to say the least. Flavor is quite nice with a good kick, and I would certainly order again. Pork Banh-Mi sandwiches are OUTSTANDING. These challenge my favorite place (Murray Hill) and even my Chinatown place, which is an achievement in itself for a relatively new establishment. I don't know where Pho Tan sources the bread for these, but they should keep that under wraps, as this is the best Banh-Mi bread I have ever tasted. Pork is great and it all comes together with the soft bread and special sauce...They are a bargain at the current price. Shrimp Banh-Mi sandwiches should be paired with Curry, as you can dip the sandwich in the Curry which produces a lovely flavor explosion. This was such a neat surprise and I highly recommend trying at least once. Squid and Pork BBQ dishes were quite good as well. I highly recommend the Pork BBQ, as their pork dishes and pork itself is just awesome. Portions are generous. Try the crispy shrimp appetizer with the dipping sauce. This spot has really good pho. the soup is good. their other stuff isnt as good, but still pretty good. They have a large variety of selections, also has thai food. Came here for a quick meal on a Friday 2pm and order the large bowl of Pho (No. 1 on menu's in authentic Vietnamese restaurants). Went to wash my hands in the bathroom and saw them bringing out my order just as I was headed to my seat. In all, good portion of meats and they gave basil for the raw vegetables so I was a happy camper. The soup could have been hotter but it cooked the meat and heated the vegetables. However, there is a considerate amount of msg to make up for the savory flavor of the food and I am sensitive to msg. Within an hour of eating, the dehydration and dry irritated throat kicked in, and my stomach felt like it was being prepped for a colonoscopy. I'm not saying everyone will have similar symptoms but might be wise to let the flavors do the work and cut back on the msg. Good healthy food shouldn't need much or any and it would be wise to let the aromatics do their part instead. We ordered a large Pho Noodle. As I am using my spoon to scoop the soup, I noticed a piece of hair. I figured it's just one hair so I took it out. At this point I did not call the waiter over since I do not like to be petty. Unfortunately after finding 5+ hair, it was necessary to bring it to the waiter's attention. We were told it is tendon hair coming from the cow. It did not look like animal hair to me. It looked like an employee had gotten a haircut prior to starting his shift and did not wear a hairnet causing the hair to fall into my soup. The waiter apologized but did not offer a solution. It is unacceptable whether it is tendon hair or human hair. There should be no hair in any meal. Period. I am disappointed in my dining experience as I am a regular here. Pho is always a good idea on a rainy day. Pho Tan was certainly an interesting experience for me. The pho, as seen in the picture, came with rectangular slabs of gelatinous tendon which was a contrast to the irregular shaped cuts you'd normally get. One of my chef friends said it's a French technique, which I thought was pretty unique. I agree with the other reviews on how they do provide you with a good portion of meat for the price. The soup actually made it into my top 3 for NYC pho. The broth was at a desirable thickness and was not overwhelming. My only complaint is that they cooked the noodles for too long because as soon as the reheated soup was poured over, the strands of noodles broke into pieces. The grilled beef entree was not even close to the picture I showed the staff but it still tasted decent. To be honest, I've never had grilled beef in a rolled cigar form - it actually looks cool and the rice was good although it wasn't the traditional cơm tấm ("broken rice") I was looking for but again, it was good.
