Signature Pho (top) Crispy Spring Roll Bun Bowl (bottom)

Came to order a second time and this time I dined to eat; service was friendly as always but felt like the food quantity was a little lacking. Ordered the signature pho and a spring roll bun. My brother said there wasn't enough protein for the price point that they are charging for and the broth was a bit bland. My bun was flavorful but felt like the spring rolls could have been warmer if they were fried on the spot. Overall it was a satisfying meal. Love how clean and tidy this spot still is!

There's a new Pho in town! Taking over the space that used to be Tea Shop & Bakery is Pho Real. The setup of the restaurant is a little unorthodox and I guess it's more modern minimalistic self-actualizing approach to food service. Just means you have to do your chores. You come in, grab an open table, scan the QR code menu/ordering system. There are also kiosks at the back counter to place takeout orders, if you didn't do it online. Your food is brought from the kitchen pretty quickly, but you have to get your own utensils, water and bus your own table like at a fast-food restaurant. You're not required to wipe it down though. Since you pay when you order, you can just up and leave after you clear the dishes and bring them to the station opposite the service counter. The pho is very flavorful with a rich broth. My Signature Beef Pho (火車頭 Locomotive) has the requisite beef eye round, brisket, tendon & tripe, but also meatballs. The bowl is not the biggest nor packed with the most meat I've ever had but is adequate in size. I love that they are generous with scallions. My wife really liked her Grilled Pork Chop Pho with good marinated flavor. All pho bowls are accompanied by a garnish bowl of bean sprouts, jalapeño slices, lime wedge, fresh basil leaves & a sprig of cilantro. My son's Pork Chop Combo Rice had the 3 pork flavors: pork chop, pork/egg meatloaf & dry shredded pork and garnished with pickled veggies & cucumber slices. Prices on soft opening day are discounted 10% but seem a little higher than other nearby pho places, but the quality is there. I just wish that at these prices, I didn't have to do so much of the service work myself and have to earn my own gratuity.

3/16/2025 update: a blackout window shade has been installed. BLUF: 2.5 out of 5 stars. Needs a little time to work out product, store lighting, and online ordering system issues. Our first visit to Pho Real Viet Kitchen on a soft opening day was a somewhat disjointed experience. Food: 2.25 out of 5 stars. We ordered: - Grilled Chicken over Rice: $11.95; $13.01 with tax. "Haiyaa!!" -- Uncle Roger (from YouTube, an expression of disappointment). We've had better. The chicken was not marinated, and was not grilled -- it seemed deep-fried instead. The chicken was dry and flavorless. The rice was old, dry, and hard, and the carrot and radish slaw wasn't sour enough. The cucumber slices were warm, bordering on hot. - Signature Pho: $16.95; $18.45 with tax. The partially bone-based broth was promising; the noodles were mushy, the tripe seemed undercooked. There are Vietnamese restaurants on Northern Boulevard that serve larger and higher quality portions of beef for the same (un-discounted) price. Of note, the bowls here seem to be made of melamine, which for us is a negative. Atmosphere: OK; 3 out of 5 stars. We visited in the late afternoon / early evening. The restaurant staff helpfully moved one of the tables out of the sun's blinding glare for us, and said that they expected to order sun blinds soon. The atmosphere was otherwise a very pleasant and comfortable change from the prior tenant, Tea Shop. Each dining table had hoisin and hot sauces and a QR code placard; but no utensils, sauce dishes, and napkins. Utensils are brought out with the food. Extra utensils, sriracha, and small bowls (instead of sauce dishes) are self-obtained from the kitchen counter, while the wall counter next to the restroom has napkins. It might be more convenient for customers if each dining table was equipped with more accessories. Complimentary water is available next to the order kiosks, and is self-served. Service: Good; 4 out of 5 stars. Ordering and card payment is handled by the Chowbus (Fantuan) platform -- accessed either by using one's smartphone to scan the QR code at one's table, or via one of two kiosks by the kitchen counter. When ordering at the kiosks, one can take a placard number for use as one's table number in the ordering process. We encountered an issue when we attempted to order via the QR code link, and duplicated the issue on the kiosks for the staff to see. The ordering process does not ask for tips, assuming that customers do some work serving themselves. However, the staff brought us nearly everything we needed during our visit, except napkins. The soft-opening 10% discount runs through March 23rd.

New Vietnamese fast food in Fresh Meadows. Solid pork chop rice. Had their signature Pho and it was decent. Self serve - order by kiosk or QR code. First come first serve seating. When you're done put away your utensils and bowls. The staff was extremely friendly and food came out quick. They aren't on uber eats or grub hub yet but anticipate in 2 weeks. Menu is not available online yet. Great place to grab a quick bite.

Finally get to try this place for the first time. Came in on a Friday night, place was half filled. Even though this is a self-serve place, the manager / owner helped us settle in for a table of 3. He looks like the same guy from the HK Cafe before. This is a self-serve place - order from the kiosk / QR code, then they bring over the food, and you clean up yourself. No tipping required, but appreciated. We ordered spring rolls, shrimp summer rolls, grilled chicken Pho, the signature Pho, and an iced coffee. TL:DR - there is quite some room for improvement. Appetizers - the rolls are OK. Not bad, and won't make you crave for it in the middle of the night. Summer roll is smaller in diameter compared to other Vietnamese places. Phos - the broth. is. weak. probably among the lowest tier in the Fresh Meadows & Bayside area Vietnamese places. I tasted hints of water in their broth. The portion of the noodles is generous though. The signature pho have less than average amount of meat. The grilled chicken eerily reminds us of the flavor from the HK cafe where this place used to be. Probably made by the same chef? The iced coffee - we chose the option to have less condensed milk. And it was BITTER. Should not mess with that. In fact don't even offer that option please. Will give them the benefit of doubt for they are so new, but there are lots of room for improvement. Maybe will give them another chance a few months later.

I can't believe I never wrote a review for Pho Che after dining here multiple times over the years…read more I have been a huge fan of their pho broth and their grilled pork chops. They are both always seasoned very well and make a delicious meal. However, the price seems to have increased tremendously for the side of pork chop (almost doubled since they first opened). We opted to try their spicy pho and BBQ pork banh mi on a Saturday. The entire restaurant was packed with plenty of diners waiting for a table. Our food came out quickly and we were able to share our pho with an extra bowl. The spicy broth was indeed spicy and pretty flavorful. There was plenty of meat and aromatics to accompany the dish. I really enjoyed the dish but towards the end, it was just a bit too spicy. The large bowl also had plenty of noodles for two people. The bbq pork banh mi was not as great as other shops that specialize in freshly made banh mi. The pork was seasoned well but the sandwich felt a bit bare and lacking. Overall, I do love supporting Pho Che as my local pho spot and hope they continue to serve amazing food.

Mekong at the end of the strip closed a while ago, so a new Vietnamese place fits right in. They spent a good amount for the interior décor in light wood tones and it looks nice. With all the new and popular businesses in this HMart strip mall, the parking situation in this lot is cutthroat with everybody jockeying to get a space at all hours, but even worse at meal times. For new Vietnamese restaurants, I always have to compare their biggest beef pho bowl, the Locomotive 火車頭. Why it's called that, I'm not sure, but most places call it that. The broth comes hot and flavorful with plenty of Brisket, Tripe, Tendon & Eye Round slices and though not the biggest or best, but pretty decent. Garnish with plenty of bean sprouts, basil and jalapeño slices while the broth is hot. The thin rice noodles are just the right consistency, too. I like to mix a dipping sauce for the beef with the hot sauce & hoisin sauce on the table. My son goes for the Grilled Pork w/ Vermicelli Blankets because not all Vietnamese restaurants have it on their menus. He likes to wrap the grilled sliced marinated pork in the vermicelli blankets and dip them in the fish sauce. It also comes on a bed of greens. My wife had ordered the Grilled Beef on Rice Vermicelli, which is sliced, but what she really wanted was the Marinated Cubed Beef and that comes over rice. To round out the meal, we also had a plate of Stir-fried Baby Bok Choy and it was really tasty with plenty of sliced garlic. So next time we'll have to try again, but we'll order a la carte family style. I want to try the Grilled Lemongrass Pork Chops, Salt & Pepper Squid, Stir-fried Water Spinach and maybe throw in some Shrimp Summer Rolls and Fried Spring Rolls. Apparently, this Pho Grand also has a separate buffet takeout counter that you can select 4 dishes over rice & a soup for a flat rate, which is great for a grab & go lunch.

This place feels like a hidden gem you almost want to keep secret... but it's just too good not to share. What makes Pho Metro stand out right away is how authentic it feels. You can tell this is truly a labor of love. One guy runs the show and somehow manages to do it all, from cooking to serving, and the care he puts into the food absolutely shows in every single bite. It has that comforting, homemade quality that makes you feel like you've stepped into a small family kitchen rather than just another restaurant. The food itself is outstanding. Everything tastes incredibly fresh, from the herbs to the broth. I highly recommend the thin noodles with the spicy lemongrass broth (you can request this if it's not listed). It's bursting with flavor, slightly tangy, perfectly spicy, and deeply savory in a way that warms you from the inside out. Every spoonful feels like a cozy blanket on a cold day. The summer rolls are another must-order. They're fresh, light, and packed with flavor, and the peanut sauce that comes with them is absolutely delicious. It's rich, savory, and addictive enough that you'll find yourself scraping the cup to get every last drop. Another detail I really appreciated is how everything you need is right at your fingertips. All the sauces are readily available at the table, so you can customize your bowl exactly how you like it without having to ask or wait. It makes the whole experience feel easy, comfortable, and welcoming. And don't skip the Thai iced tea. It's perfectly sweet, creamy, and refreshing, especially alongside the bold flavors of the pho. It's the kind of drink that makes you slow down and enjoy the moment. Overall, this place delivers on flavor, authenticity, and heart. It's rare to find a spot where you can truly taste the effort and pride in every dish, but Pho Metro does exactly that. I will absolutely be returning again and again. The summer rolls and calamari were good, you could taste the freshness of the veggies and shrimp. I wish the calamari had been a bit crispier and seasoned with a touch more salt and pepper, but it was still very good. The real reason I'll be coming back is the pho broth. Some people might describe it as slightly sweet, but to me, it had a rich, balanced flavor. I'm not sure if the short rib is available all the time (it does have a lot of fat, as beef short rib often does), but it was flavorful. Definitely coming back to try more.

The gaibi was dry and hard to eat on the bone even though they provided gloves and a knife. The pork chop as a side was $15 for 2 pieces and also on the dryer side. It was seasoned well but I really wished it was juicier. My favorite part of the meal was the smoky beef bun cha platter. The beef was thinly sliced and tasted sweet like bulgogi. Also its surprising because every time I go the place is pretty packed and occasionally there is a wait. What's also a shame, for me, is that on my recent visit my friend ordered the Steamed Seafood in Lemongrass and this is perhaps the top, or one of the top dishes on the menu. The seafood flavors and balances the slightly spicy lemongrass broth making this a crave worthy bowl. I ordered something out of my wheelhouse - the Coconut Spicy Lemongrass Soup, which on online order menu states its a popular dish. I couldn't see why this dish is so popular because I find other items on the menu superior. They make a tasty pho (especially when paired with a marrow bone). Their sandwiches are well made - I enjoy the different fish ones. I think their Vietnamese coffee could use some work - it is blander than other versions I had tried. Don't be too sad and maybe feel a little optimistic because owner Petra Rickman has a great track record opening interesting, in demand restaurants (This one and Taco Azul have been longtime go-tos in Whitestone). Additionally G&L has a 2nd location with the same menu in Manhattan, which unfortunately for a Queens boy like myself is a bridge too far and a congestion pricing too high for me to make the trek.
