Having lived away from NYC for 12 years I have still yet to find a decent halal kart style over rice on the west coast (the commercialized corporate-owned Halal Guys is far from decent). While visiting NY this time, I tried Halal Munchies on my parents' suggestion and it blew me away. I ordered the mixed (chicken and lamb) over rice. For sides, they give the option to choose 2 between fries, salad or hummus. What sets them apart from the red "spicy" rice. While not spicy at all, it is pretty damn tasty. While their red sauce leaves a little to be desired (it has a slightly off-putting vinegary taste and not very spicy), their green sauce is amazing with its zesty cilantro and mint taste! All that cost me only $11, while Halal Guys is over here charging $14+ for a platter and nickel and dimes us for sauce packets. I classify Halal Munchies as a must eat when visiting NY! read more

Terrible customer service. I recently placed an order through Seamless, and it went through successfully. When I arrived, I was told they had an internet outage and refused to make my food. I showed them my receipt on my phone as proof of purchase, but they still wouldn't honor the order. Instead, they told me to contact Seamless to cancel it and then pay again in-store. A good, bang for your buck halal spot. I recommend the lamb and chicken combo platter that came with a drink (pictured). I ordered side of seasoned fries(pictured), but to my surprise, fries actually came inside the combo platter too. The buffalo wings were also tasty (pictured). Service was ok, had to wait about 10 minutes for the food because of all the Uber pick ups etc. Ambiance was ok, they do have chairs to sit and enjoy. I've got to give 5 stars when it's due. Every time I've been in the area craving Halal food, Halal Munchies has never let me down. And that's usually when I'm in Queens visiting my folks and I can't sleep.. even though it's midnight. They also greet meet with a smile and are not shy when it comes to portions. I'm talkin' heaps of rice, meat, salad and french fries... yes french fries! The hot sauce is tasty (my mouth is watering right now thinking about it) and the white sauce really helps keep temps under control. These guys are great! I ordered the platter and for 10.99 you get so much that it can be had in two meals and it's so tasty! You get everything, protein, carbs, snacks, salads, sauces, other sides and a drink! That's absolutely crazy! And it's not like a small place, it actually looks pretty good! We often get the "Mix Combo Over Rice" Platter ($7.99 plus tax) -- a combination of chicken and lamb over rice, with Cajun fries and a small salad. The platter is larger here than at nearby competitors, and packed with food. The flavors here seem slightly more vibrant than at nearby competitors. I like how thimbles of white sauce, green sauce, and red sauce are available upon request at no extra charge. However, the fries often aren't as warm as the rest of the platter. We also like the Philly Cheesesteak. The Chicken Cheesesteak uses the same chicken from the rice platters, in sandwich form. Wow!!! The quality of this location really went down. I have been coming to this location since before the pandemic. Use to be my favorite halal spot in Queens. First of all, the portion size are much smaller now. They use a smaller container. Obviously the price went up due to inflation but they are giving less too. One order use to feed me for two meals.. Today the quality of everything went down. I ordered maybe last week and the quality was still decent... The humus was not blend long enough so it's very gritty. I was looking forward to their creamy hummus. So disappointed. The lamb was cut in huge chunks compare to the smaller pieces they use to cut them. The rice was mushy!!! The salad was also diced in huge chunks too along with the really wet lettuce... what is going on??? Is it because I ordered at a late hour? Or the cooks tonight were different? You'd expect they'd get soggy because of the condensation that occurs in a hot container. Maybe I was starving that day but the food was so friggin good and it was a huge portion. My friend mentioned that the falafels were made fresh and cooked on the spot, flavor wise it was a 3.5. I got the combo over rice with extra white sauce, the meat was flavored perfectly and the rice had a really nice cinnamon flavor, more than some other places that I've had a combo over rice from. But if you don't like a strong cinnamon flavor maybe this rice isn't for you. The hummus was flavored well and I wish we ordered more pita to eat with the hummus, haha. It comes with chicken and gyro on a bed of rice, covered in their delicious sauces (white and barbecue), as well as sides of salad and hummus or fries. Definitely get the fries! They will pack the container to the brim, and it always leaves me full. I can even split it into 2 meals. The price has increased a bit over time, but still a great deal! Good place for takeout! We ordered from Door Dash today and the order arrived promptly. We ordered two combo plates, one with hummus and one with fries. It arrived with the meat covered in white sauce. They also included one extra small container of white sauce and red sauce (win!). I really liked the hummus and salad. The hummus was not salty (like one reviewer notes below), and the texture was not too watery nor thick. Not sure if the platters were supposed to come with pita but we didn't get any in our takeout bag. Would've been nice to have to dip in the hummus but oh well. The French fries were seasoned and crispy. The salad was my favorite part! Tasted really fresh and not soggy. Was not seasoned or dressed, which is what I preferred. Next time I will probably ask for lamb/chicken over just salad. The rice was just all right, nothing special. Overall a solid spot and definitely will be ordering from here next time. I literally made a yelp just to write a review on how terrible this place is. I never ever leave food reviews but I'm absolutely appalled by the food I ordered here. I ordered falafel over rice and a side order of hummus . First off the falafel had no taste and were beyond dry. The salad on the side looked old. And so did the side order of hummus. I should have not order from here when my sister said that she and her husband threw up after eating here. But I took a chance since I've ordered from the past and it was fine .At least I know exactly where not to go for halal ever again. Never in my life. They have good fries I'll give them that but that's about it. Being a foodie I can tolerate a lot but this time I just had to throw the whole plate out , it's by far one of the most distasteful and unappetizing food I've ever ordered. I've ordered from many times years ago they were actually good I don't know if they have a new owner but the last two times were just not it , this being the worst. I ventured out to this spot on a Friday afternoon as I finished early from my work. There are metered parking in front of the business place. I went in, immediately noticed all the lighted signboard on the food they offer and the prices, letterings are large and easy to read which makes it a breeze to order. They keep the place clean. Staff is quick in welcoming costumers, are attentive on who has not yet ordered, and then takes your order. I ordered lamb over rice with fries. They are systematic on the process of preparing the ordered food, you get it fast and quick. I just noticed that their prices here are a little bit higher as compared to other halal places. Rice and meat are flavorful but lesser than what I am used to, they compensate it with fries. I like the small amount of veggies that comes with it, they cut the cucumber, tomatoes and lettuce into small pieces which gives the food a nice texture when eaten. Fries are good and crispy. The hot sauce is better than the other halal places that I have tried. They give extra sauces that you prefer which is in small containers (a plus). All in all my experience was good, a good option when you want a different halal place than where you are used to. read more
