Looking for a Thai place close to the neighborhood and found Tommy Thai going through the Yelp app. Ambiance of this place is pretty eclectic. Tables and chairs don't seem to match nor even items hung up on the wall which makes it unique and different. Notice the huge screen TV with music playing. There were two staff running back and forth bringing out meals and tending to the customers. Staff motioned us to sit anywhere we wanted. She brought out menu. So here are the items we ordered. -Crispy Duck Over Rice- Would get this again next time I visit. The Duck was crispy and crunchy too. -Spring Roll and Chicken Satay- like the sauce and flavoring of the chicken -Shrimp Pad Thai- Nice size shrimp and tasty. Nice size portion enough for two to share. They were limited on beer. Had wanted a Thai beer but they were all out so I was able to get Sapporo. Way cool. As I walked towards this place, I was a little skeptical. It was situated in a quiet area further from Queens Blvd than I anticipated, though not too far. However, upon arrival, I was pleasantly surprised by the inviting ambiance. For my meal, I opted for the vegetarian pineapple fried rice along with a Thai tea. The food turned out to be delicious, and I was pleased with the generous portion sizes given the price. After finishing our meal, we hung around a bit to enjoy listening to karaoke sung by what I assume are friendly regulars. They encouraged us to sing along, but we politely declined. I would love to recommend Tommy Thai for their delicious food, but an unfortunate experience inside the restaurant has made me hesitant to return. There were roaches crawling on the floor. When I alerted the staff, they did nothing about it. As nice as the food was, I don't believe I will be returning unless that staff does a little more than just a shrug at the bugs. read more

This is my favorite Thai place in Queens. They're a little off the beaten path in Elmhurst, but everything I have tried off of their menu has always been delicious. Plus, the staff is super friendly and it's a cute little store front. I've tried a bunch of their menu at this point. You can't go wrong with their Pad See Ew (this is my favorite), Pad Thai, Pineapple Fried Rice, and Massaman Curry. We always order the Pad See Ew with chicken and then change it up with the second entree (my husband and I like to go half and half on our orders). I have a goal to try all the Thai restaurants in queens and I'm so happy to cross this one off the list. I was craving for something soupy and this duck noodle soup was spot on. It is a little on the sweet side but the duck tastes SO good and there is so much in the soup too. First time for Lunch found this place as my car was at the shop. Tiny place but very quaint and has a living room feel . The staff is amazing and will explain the dishes . It was my first time so I had the papaya salad and the pork skewers. I was so hungry I just ordered what I knew off the back. The salsa was Franky mad and had the right amount of spic on my lips so refreshing . The pork skewers where nice and charred and soft nice marinated sauce very Smokey. I've wanted to go to here for the longest!!!!!! Finally, I went inside today by myself, I was greeted by people singing karioke which made me feel at home because I sing karioke at home! The table was quite sticky for an unoccupied restaurant, even the seats were unclean, and most things observable to me were quite unhygienic, that I was eager to leave after having dinner. The service here was no-frills and hospitable. Unfortunately, the food was disappointing. It was evident that the dishes were cooked in old oil, overly seasoned with MSG, and lacked freshness. The beef pad se-ew (3/5) was bland and excessively greasy. The chicken wings (2/5) were also greasy, lacked freshness, and clearly old oil was used. I found the prices here to be very reasonable - entrees are slightly cheaper than other Thai places in the neighborhood by a dollar or two. We kept it simple and had the Pad Thai and the Pad Kee Mao. Our noodle dishes were fresh and had good flavor. However, the portion sizes here are small. That explains the lower price. After I left I was still pretty hungry, so I grabbed a snack elsewhere. I live in the area and these guys are open late, sometimes well past their closing time. I don't know why someone would complain about the ambiance because you can get the best food in places that are like a hole in the wall.. for me I love the coziness and I feel like everyone has the proper service for their needs because of the space. I've had probably everything on the menu by now with no complaints. The food is consistent, not like others have mentioned in the past and they've really established themselves over the years. If you go there when the regulars are there, you'll see a plate of fried calamari on every table. Their Som Tum is a little on the sweeter side, but if you know authentic Thai restaurants, that shouldn't be a problem because they will always have the 4 sauces to suit your taste, salty - sweet - sour - spicy. I always add the vinegar with pickled chilis (sour) and a lot of spicy to mine.. i'm korean.. Our go to for take out is: Fried calamari very crunchy and crispy has a good flavor with the Thai chili sauce. Spring rolls are one of the best appetizers they are crunchy and flavorful. Pineapple fried rice with shrimp really good flavor the pineapple adds a kick to it and the cashews. Thai basil fried rice flavorful but don't get very spicy unless your ready. This is spicy spicy! The exterior of Tommy Thai may take you aback. It's plain and stays clear of accessorizing. However, I visited recently during the holidays and noticed the interior through the glass window. There was an excessive use of Christmas lights and decoration by the entrance way, causing clutter that gave me an almost claustrophobic feeling. Looking pass that, I walked in and was seated at the only available table (there were only 5). We ordered a papaya salad to start and I ordered myself a beef noodle soup. The papaya salad was one of the better ones I've had. It was a perfect balance between sweet and salty and wasn't overly spicy. My beef noodle soup was rather good as well with a pretty generous amount of meat. Service was friendly and staff came by a couple of times to ensure we were doing okay. I also overhead customers chatting with a man whom I believe is Tommy (the owner?). Sounds like he has a number of loyal customers who appreciate the simplicity and authenticity of his food. Nothing ruins a perfect day like a failed takeout dinner. The most bland pad kee mao I have ever tasted. I even asked for extra spicy but It was mild at best. It also had tomatoes in it which I thought was odd for a pad kee mao. Some pieces of onions tasted rancid like they have gone bad and the burnt pieces of minced garlic left a bitter aftertaste. The description on the menu said it had bamboo shoots in it but there weren't any. In a nutshell this was a greasy flat rice noodles with a subtle hint of pad kee mao flavor. Very disappointed. Friends got take out from this Thai place in Elmhurst. They got three salads: green papaya, mango, and duck. They were all very good. They had the right balance of sweet, sour, savory, and crunchy. We also had the chive pancake and the hoy joh, an appetizer made with shrimp, chicken, cilantro and served with plum sauce. Both were well seasoned and delicious. Yaaay! We finally have a Thai place on the ~other~ side of Queens Boulevard and it's awesome! They just opened up this week, I happened to be passing by and I think my eyes just about bulged out of my head. A bunch of locals were crowding around, ogling the menu, when one of the staff came out to welcome us in all smiles. Everyone there is super friendly. Two of the workers chatted with us a bit about Thai food in the neighborhood and gave us a lemongrass sweet tea on the house. We ordered the curry puffs and two orders of pad kee mao, one with chicken and one with shrimp. The curry puffs were spot on. I asked for my pad kee mao extra extra spicy and they totally listened to me! It was nice and spicy, and the flavor was great and didn't get overpowered by the heat. They even gave me a little container of a dry spice mix that I sprinkled over the noodles, and it added a nice little smokiness. The Prik Khing is also great, a hint of spice with perfectly cooked string beans and ginger. I like to get it with duck. The pork skewers are really delicious. I would skip the dumplings and the crab rolls. It's awesome to finally have a Thai place in this part of Elmhurst, I can't wait to try the rest of their menu. We were a table of four and there were only two other filled tables that already got their food. I ordered the green curry with tofu and the tofu was delicious. Terrible. I got the Pad Woon Sen with beef. The beef and whole meal was bland and dry. As well, the meal contained mushrooms and tomatoes. The menu does not have these ingredients on the menu description, which is why I chose this meal. I absolutely hate mushrooms and tomatoes. As well the curry puffs I ordered had no spice to them and super dry when you bite into it. The "relish" is in a baby shot glass size container. Disappointed in this place. This is one of the best Thai places around. The Thai food here is very flavorful and authentic. Spicy levels are always right. Prices also are cheaper than other Thai places as well. I live very close to this restaurant and its always like a hit or miss. Today I found hair in my rad na!l athough I got a new order with no charge. The noodles that come with the rad na was tiny pieces and very hard, felt like it was old and not cooked thoroughly. (flat noodles) (new order was better) my brother ordered basil fried rice and it had absolutely no basil in it. They replaced it with hot chili peppers and omg it was non edible. I mean I'm Korean and I can take the heat, but seriously they cooked the entire rice with the chilli.. It was so damn spicy! It never was like that. In all honesty, maybe the usual chef wasn't there today... But who knows... And w this pandemic u have to be very cautious of what u r eating out... This place covers all bases. The food is always delicious and on pointe. I've never found spicy food in NYC that still has flavor until this place. Everything we've gotten here has been delicious.
