Really friendly service and yummy food. The portions are pretty big too. I'd like to try more items on the menu.

Really solid neighborhood spot. I had the khao soi with tofu on the lunch special, which also came with a spring roll and some salad. The spring roll was crispy and flavorful, and the salad was simple and light. The khao soi was very tasty - savory and rich notes from the broth, tartness cutting through from the pickled toppings, some textural variation from fried noodles, and plenty spicy from the fried chili and chili oil. There's a cash discount of 5%, so my meal came to $20 after tax and tip.

For my annual restaurant hopping reunion with another foodie bestie, we chose this unique and popular Thai restaurant that's been raved these last 2 years. What makes it unique is the different regions of Thai dishes it has than your normal standards. Northern Thai cuisine dishes was our go to. Appetizers were the chive pancakes. Shaped like triangles and deep fried to give it that lightweight crispy munch, loved how flavorful this was dipped in the sweet soy sauce. Main course was the Khao Soi Gai confit (chicken confit served in Northern styled curry soup). Never had a crispy content inside a curry. Same goes with adding the crispy noodles. Getting that crunch with how flavorful that curry broth soak is. Thai curry is less thick for good reasons so it can soak in all the contents and make your dish elevated. The flavors were overwhelmingly amazing keeping the confit chicken crispy outside and soft tenderizing meat inside. For Autumn, this comfort dish is an excellent choice. Extra side dish order was the Nuea Yang (sliced rib eye with tamarind and bitter jaekwhom sauce). That melt in your mouth slivers of meat slices with a crisp charred grill skin. Need I say more? The best surprises are when you order dishes that you've never tasted and it blew your expectations. The credit also goes to our host and server Oreo who was amazing with recommendations. Took great care of us for semi-indecisive diners. Our only wish was we wished there was room for more because there's many interesting dishes left to explore. Will have to come back again. Cozy Astoria comfort eats, with a slice of uniqueness that should not be overlooked. Worth the walk to try.

Easily one of the best Thai restaurants in NY and quite affordable. They have a huge selection to choose from and the presentation is really beautiful. Portion size is pretty decent but the taste is so good. Everything we ordered tasted great and they also have good selection of Cocktails. Decor is insta-friendly and looked beautiful and they also have outdoor seating. Service was quite good and the staff were friendly and helpful.

I had heard good things about Kam Rai Thai via social media, and since I really enjoy Thai cuisine, I bookmarked it to try it out. Finally, with a break in the rain and beautiful weather, I figured--there's no time like the present. Before arriving, I already had an idea of what I wanted to try. While I knew I couldn't sample everything on my list, I did manage to try a few dishes. For an appetizer, I had the Roti Massaman, which ended up being my favorite. The roti dipped in the massaman curry was chef's kiss. The flavor was well-balanced--not too sweet or too spicy. It contains peanuts, which I think really ties it all together. It was honestly delicious. I came during happy hour and tried their margarita, which was also good. I'm a fan of Thai Iced Tea, so I ordered that too--and it didn't disappoint. For my entrée, I tried the Beef Shank Stewed Hot Pot and the Pig Beach Island (fried pork belly). The broth in the hot pot was flavorful, but it didn't quite hit the spot for me. I usually order the Seafood Tom Yum Soup, but since I was at a new spot, I wanted to try something different--especially after seeing someone online rave, "you gotta try this." I can't pinpoint exactly what was missing, but it just lacked something for me. I think the Tom Yum Soup probably would've been the better choice. The pork belly was decent, but I would've preferred it crispier. It also felt more like an appetizer than an entrée, especially since it doesn't come with any sides. There was a bit of confusion with the beef hot pot too--one server told me it came with rice, another said it didn't. I ended up ordering rice just in case. I wanted to try a dessert, but I was too full by the end. The staff was polite and professional. While the overall experience didn't wow me the way I hoped, I'm still curious to try other items on the menu--especially the Branzino or Red Snapper. I usually order fish, but this time I just wanted to try something different.

One of my top Thai spots I've been to for sure! Beautiful restaurant, delicious food, and great service. Appetizers: Their chicken meatballs are SO GOOD and a must get. I also feel like I don't see this app in other Thai restaurants. Chive pancakes are also a go-to and you can't go wrong with them. Entrees: Their beef pad thai is top tier--probably claims the #1 rank for me now. Flavorful and saucy! Their crab meat fried rice has a generous amount of crab meat and having it with the fish sauce is a must. This is a great spot for a birthday dinner or date night. It is pretty calm on the weekdays but be prepared to wait on the weekends because they get busy.

Sometimes you wonder what the Astoria hype is about...Most of the food is only above average and prices are similar to midtown Manhattan. Then sometimes you stumble across an exceptional, small joint that has that special magic. Kam Rai is one of those exceptional small Astoria restaurants! The food is amazing. There are the standard Thai dishes, such as pad Thai and curries...but unique dishes too. There's cuisine across Thailand, for those who want to explore. The chef is self taught, but his food is unique. We didn't have a bad dish! The ambiance is great too. The flowers from the ceiling give it color and playful vibe, and makes for great photos. The service is friendly and prompt. And the prices are very reasonable given the quality of the food. You will understand why foodies like Astoria after dining at Kam Rai!

The first time I tried Kam Rai Thai was at the 2023 Yelpies at Flushing Town Hall. A little over a year later I was able to try their restaurant in Astoria for lunch and it was a good choice for a cold day like today. We were the only ones at 12pm and it was a bit chilly inside, not sure if the heat was on or not. My friend and I got seated in the back, the decor was so beautiful with the flowers hanging above and pictures on the walls. The menu was extensive and I'm glad they had pictures of their dishes, made us want to order everything but we can only eat so much. We had the papaya salad, Tom Yum noodle soup, lunch special chicken pad Eiw with a spring roll, soup and salad. You can choose from 1-5 for the spice level. The papaya salad was flavorful, Tom Yum Soup had the perfect amount of sourness and chicken pad see Eiw with level 2 spice was good. The soup, spring roll and salad was good with nice flavor as well. I ordered a Thai Iced Tea and it was a great size. I need to come back again to try other items on the menu with a bigger group. Highly reccomend it here. Perfect for date night as well.

Maybe I came on a bad day but overall, the experience was somewhat disappointing. The restaurant's ambiance is pretty dark, so just FYI. It was somewhat harder to read the menu because it also had darker fonts. We ordered our food around 720ish, had two appetizers and three entrees for a table of 3. Roti Massaman - I enjoyed this. The curry sauce that came with the dish was so flavorful and the roti paired well with it. Papaya Salad - I really enjoyed this, though the flavor is unique. Pretty strong flavor, can really taste the fish sauce. Khao Shoi with short ribs - probably the best dish on the table. noodles were crispy and the soup was fantastic. i recommend ordering this. Beef was tender Brazino - most expensive but least liked dish. The fish was burnt, so the outside was just bitter. Fish was not flavorful and the sauce was questionable. Couldnt really figure out the taste but I would not recommend. Pad Thai - typical pad thai, nothing special to call out on. The food took FOREVER to arrive. After we ordered, the appitzers came out 25 mins later and the entrees came out a good 35-45 minutes later. we had to ask them to check on our food. was really looking forward to this place based on the reviews and rewards but it was disappointing in general.

Came here for a dinner date before we went to the movie theater in Astoria and absolutely loved it! We're pretty picky when it comes to Thai food and this spot checks all the boxes! Cozy, intimate ambience with splendid details (flowers all over the ceiling), attentive service, and bomb food! Got the eggplant basil dish, mango salad, and fried tofu. Out of the 3, the tofu was probably the weakest, but the other two I'd order again and again. Fresh ingredients, great levels of spice and flavor, and generous portions. Love it!

We stopped here after picking my husband up at LGA and running some errands in Astoria and saw it had amazing reviews and decided it would be good for supper.... Boy were we wrong. We got curry puffs and a green and pineapple curries. The curry puffs had clearly come out from a freezer because they were still cold to the touch when we went to eat them , but 1 was still frozen inside half of it. I never judge frozen items, but they should check the temps because an extra minute of reheating would have been fine. My pineapple curry looked good but was extremely bland but was edible, didn't inspire in any way. My husband's green curry on the other hand was straight up rancid in taste and smell, tasting essentially like what a bottle of urine smells like. He wasn't able to even swallow more than a sip of the curry or eat the chicken and I tried to be reasonable when I tried it but it literally left us both gagging in a bad way and killed any appetite we had. When we tried to get help immediately, we were met with hostility and gaslit to try to believe that maybe we don't know what green curry tastes like, though one of us eats a green curry at least once a week. I travel the country full time and have had green curry in at least 35-40 states and have never been given anything so putrid tasting. Luckily after some back and forth they ended up comping our meal and not accepting any tip from us, and for that Ill give them 2 stars. Beautiful interior design, wish the flavors matched, and the service was better for it just being the two of us in the restaurant

Large Thai Iced Tea: $9.95 ($10.83 with tax)

We were introduced to Kam Rai Thai at two previous Yelp events -- at Yelp's award ceremony at the beginning of the year, and then at a Yelp Elite dinner in the spring. Kam Rai was impressive in both events. Many Thai restaurants in New York lean too much on salty and sweet flavors, but Kam Rai showcased a more dynamic range of flavors. With that, I convinced a friend to come with me to Kam Rai Thai for lunch on a very hot summer day in. Our visit was somewhat disappointing -- the dynamic and varied flavors were there, but the execution could have been better. The air conditioning could have been stronger, too. We had: - Ayutthaya Beef Noodle Soup: $20.95; $22.81 with tax. The soup had good flavor, but it seemed like some ingredients were not cooked through. The thin noodles were a bit hard. Some pieces of collagen were hard, while other pieces were soft. - Pad See Ew, with Chicken: $15.95; $17.37 with tax. Leaned sweet, and not as salty as other interpretations. The garlic bits were a bit dry and hard. - Large Thai Iced Tea: $9.95; $10.83 with tax. There was too much ice in the drink. Suggested tips are based on pre-tax subtotals and start at 18%.

Cozy, flavorful, and genuinely comforting -- @kamraithai feels like a neighborhood secret. The Beef Shank Stew Hot Pot at Kam Rai Thai is next-level comfort food. The broth is rich and deeply savory and The beef shank is melt-in-your-mouth tender, with just enough fat to make it indulgent but balanced. Perfect for a chilly night or when you need something soul-soothing. The whole grilled branzino with seafood sauce felt like a treat. Perfectly cooked--crispy on the outside, juicy inside--and the sauce added brightness and heat that elevated every bite. What we ordered for the table : - Whole grilled Branzino with seafood sauce - Beef Shank Stew Hot Pot - Fried Chive Pancakes - Summer Rolls - Drinks : Yala Cha Chuck & Chaing Mai Mojito

It comes with one sauce and dip and $.75 extra for any more. We put an order of 2 dozen wings in with medium, mild, and Honey bbq Sauces plus blue cheese. There is also a $6 draft beer special. The wings came out piping hot and we're so delicious. I couldn't tell which sauce was mild or medium and when asking a busser, he said he didnt know which was odd. Staff should know what their condiments look like to tell the difference. Luckily the medium wasn't bad so I was able to try it also. The wings are a pretty decent size so I got full after about 5 and took the rest home. Our waiter Leah was very friendly and helpful. She checked on us just enough and was very attentive. It seemed like she was the only server that night so and it was quite busy. She handled it all very well. We only came for the wings but I heard their other food is great too so I will definitely be back. As an fyi, wings day is cash only.

It's a pretty nice sports bar with large TV screens throughout the place so will definitely be on my list of places to hit up to watch a few games! What to make of this place?…read more When we visited in September (at that time), a wanna-be sports bar had just taken over the Greek taverna Blue Sea Taverna (before that, two iterations of Akrotiri). Both Greek tavernas had failed or gone out of business. So we were curious to see what changes had been made. When we entered, we were initially confused because the seating, especially the lounge seating, did not create a sports bar vibe. Even adding a bunch of TVs did not give us that feel either. Instead, our initial impression was that they were trying to convert an old Greek taverna into a gastropub, similar to other well-known ones in the area. And I should also add we had not been following the local news about the controversy regarding their name association with a World War II fortified bunker that was blown up at the end of the Second World War, and only read about the controversy over their name after we left, and on social media. Apparently, the owner(s) were most likely unaware of its historical context when naming their establishment. So we did not factor that into this review. Upon entering the Wolf's Lair, the seating was that of a modified Mediterranean restaurant. We chose the comfy seating looking out towards 29th Street and 30th Avenue. It had been raining heavily, and so we were just glad to be inside. Because our initial impression was that we were in a Mediterranean gastropub, we ordered lamb chops with lemon potatoes. The waiter, who may have been one of the owners, informed us that this vegetable was not on the menu; however, when our chops arrived, as you can see from the photos, we were indeed served lemon potatoes. We got what we ordered, which made us happy, and the chops were cooked to perfection. As we usually do not drink alcohol, beverages were not factored into our review. However, there was one thing we found a little strange and creepy. When we left, one of the employees, presumably an owner, insisted on coming out to help take photos. This was a little off-putting. Nevertheless, we got some good shots. In writing this review, we spent a lot of time deliberating our experience at the Wolf's Lair. We focused on the restaurant, service, food quality, and atmosphere. While the overall experience was excellent, we did not find Wolf's Lair to have a sports-bar atmosphere, but rather a family-dining atmosphere. On the day we visited, there was hardly any action at the bar, and most of us seated were into the food, if nothing else, with one family having a birthday party for one of their children. Overall, we had a good experience. Whether we come back to see if the Wolf's Lair becomes an actual sports bar, well, that's another matter.
