This place is a hidden gem, it's kind of far out tucked away but so worth the drive. GET THE PHO, THATS IT! 10/10 The wait - 1. There was a long line outside, but it moved fast! 2. They have a boba tea cute store attached so you can get boba tea while you wait The food 1. Pho was insanely good - you cannot go wrong with any of the PHO here. 2. Fried rice was mediocre, so were the spring roles, but that's totally on me for trying to explore stuff on the menu haha.
Rating: 3.8/5 [dine in] We came on a Friday night and were seated right away. Service was pretty fast, and they provide water bottles. A09 Garlic Fish Sauce Wings ($9.50): The menu said 5 to 6 wings, but I think we got 7. The sauce was good, but the wings were a bit dry. BM2 Banh Mi Dac Biet / Special Vietnamese Sandwich ($8.50): Yum, fresh soft bread and overall delicious. The flavors were a bit homogeneous, and I wish the pate and mayo stood out more. P09 Combination Pho ($15.50 Regular): The broth was very light and didn't taste like the beef bones were simmered long enough for the flavors to come through. It tasted better after adding hoisin sauce and Sriracha. The broth-to-noodle ratio was also off; there was more a lot more broth than noodles.
It's been over six years since I last had Pho Phong Luu, and the scene today looks very different from my first visit. It's 2026, and while Pho Phong Luu has moved to a new location with better parking and ample dining, it hasn't lost what makes it special--its efficient chaos and unforgettable flavor in every savory bite. Even in the larger space, the restaurant stays consistently packed. Every nook and cranny is filled, and if the front waiting area doesn't clue you in, the overflow seating next door at HK Tea certainly will. Despite the hustle, everything runs with impressive efficiency. The team moves fast, the operation seamless, and the place buzzes with parties and backgrounds of all kinds. Portions are generous. The food is authentic, bold, and deeply satisfying. No notes. You're doing amazing, sweetie.
If you're craving a delicious bowl of hot pho on a cold day, Pho Phong Luu is the place to go. Our go-to these days is P04 with eye round steak and brisket, $14.50 for the regular size. Pho comes out fast and is served at the correct temperature (scalding hot). Vegetable condiments are always fresh. The broth tastes so good that we always finish it all. Wish I had a bowl in front of me right now!
I came here on a Saturday around 11:30 am. Surprisingly, there was not much of a long wait and we got seated pretty quickly. I decided to order shrimp spring rolls ($6) and combo pho (15.50). The combo pho was delicious and the broth was refreshing. They put lots of meat in the pho and it just melted in my mouth. The shrimp spring rolls came with a peanut sauce and tasted amazing when combined with the spring roll. The ambiance was really nice and the food came out pretty quickly.
Hands down the best place to get pho in Austin. The broth is always deeply flavorful -- you can tell it's made properly with bones simmered overnight, not just powder. Honorable mention are the fish sauce wings which are fresh and made to order. The wings used to be much bigger, but they're still good. Service is consistently fast, and the menu is straightforward and easy to order from. I also love the combination bánh mì.The Thai tea is solid, but the Vietnamese coffee tastes like it's made from a powder packet, so I'd personally skip that. There have been some pricing changes and the wings are smaller than before, but overall everything is still solid. Even with the slight increase in price, this remains my go-to spot for pho in Austin.
You might have to wait to get in, but once inside and you order, your food comes out quickly. I ordered Pho with brisket. There are other things to order and different proteins. Lots of soup and meat. I added a little lime, some spicy sauce and a sweet sauce for flavor. It came out excellent. They feed a lot of people quickly. So the tables are close. It reminds me of a cafeteria except there are chairs and no benches. It was crowded today and we waited about 15 minutes to get inside, but worth the wait!
Best pho in town I love the rare beef option and my husband got the banh mi He also loved the sandwich but wish he would've gotten the pho instead and he isn't as big a fan as I am! We also tried the fish sauce wings - amazing so good!! We tried the egg rolls too - great starter! Service is quick and plenty of parking since it's in a shopping center Nice and clean inside the dining room too! It's a little far for me personally but it's my favorite spot for pho now!
Come here if you want an exceptional bowl of pho. This place is always packed, but the waitlist moves quickly, and they're quite efficient with making sure tables are cleared as soon as people are done eating. It is connected to HK Tea, where you can grab a tea while you wait, or just sit and wait for a table to be ready. The pho itself is simple but flavorful. I would skip getting the spring rolls, but the banh mi is quite good. Just double check their hours ahead of time because they're not open everyday, have midday break hours, and close early on the weekends.
Not sure why I haven't rated this place yet because I have been here so very many times. It is probably my favorite pho place in town. It's just so clean. The broth is so clean. It just makes you not feel too bad after you eat this. Its always hot and fresh and fast when it comes out. So very fast lol They are so busy for a reason. Today is no exception. It was so busy during lunch hour on a Saturday. There was a lot of people and a huge line outside. We had to put our names down and it took a good not too long 15 minutes or so and we almost had to share a table, but they were gracious enough to give us our own table if we waited a little longer. We tried the wings for the first time because sometimes it's out. It's a little steep for six wings for 9.50 but it was fried perfectly well and delicious. Very tasty with a lot of fish sauce. My usual combo was perfect. I love how they give you a lot of different cuts of meat and meatballs and lots of noodles. Well worth the large. My friend got the tofu pho and all the times we've come everyone has gotten different items. We even tried the banh mi one time and it was delicious as well. I see they have rice plates now. Slowly expanding their menu. So smart! This place has been consistent. It's definitely my go to place. I tell everyone about if they want a good pho place. They don't open all the time though so always check the hours. They don't need to. They can afford to close half the week because of so many people coming all the time. So happy for them. Happy it's not too far from where we live. It's kind of fun that it's connected to Hong Kong tea next-door. Have yet to really love their drinks there. I've tried multiple, but it's just fun that is connected and you can hop right on over. Very smart as well. Worth the visit if you haven't tried a good pho up north.
I've been meaning to try this spot out for a while since it os often touted as the best pho in Austin. I'd say I would agree so far with the pho spots I've tried. There are plenty of decent to good options in Austin, but Pho Phong Luu seemed to have the cleanest, but also most flavorful broth out of them all. From the photo I took, you can see that the broth is very clear, which generally indicates the level of care they took to prepare it. I also tried the wings, which I thought were very flavorful, but perhaps a bit too sweet for my taste with the Garlic sauce. Of course they are a good contrast to the pho, I just think in general, I don't prefer sweet chicken sauces. Another thing to mention is that they've got their efficiency down to a science. You put your name on the waiting list, and you can wait next door at HK tea, which is a perfect spot to grab a quick drink while you wait for your table. The pho comes out very quickly upon ordering, it's all like a perfectly working assembly line.
You know a pho place is good when: -There's a constant line on Sunday. We waited for ~30 min since we had 7+ people. -There's a bunch of Asian people eating here. -The pho resembles my mom's homemade pho. It hit the spot. The broth is clean, pure, and flavorful. - I finished it all of it. This is a hot take but I didn't need to add hoisin or sriracha. Fresh jalapeños for added spice is good enough for me. -I ordered a kids size because the regular looks big. But you can upgrade to a large for $2.50. You can only choose one meat for the kids size. I went with the thịt chín (brisket) and they were so generous! The brisket was delicious and tender. -My fiancé ordered the đặc biệt (special) with all the meats. I tried the bò viên (meatball) and thịt tái (round eye) and they were both good. But I prefer the thịt chín (brisket). -They're not open for dinner on the weekends (they probably run out during the lunch rush). The Vietnamese coffee was good but it was too sweet for me. Overall, the pho was great!
A pho/Vietnamese spot that does right and does not have booth seats that smell like a wet rag! I came here a few times, the pho and rolls are always good. The ingredients are fresh and they actually cook the tendon through to be soft and edible. Expect the place to be very crowded and the hours of operation are very narrow. But they do move fast. Just remember to physically write your name on the waitlist. Probably even add a last name. I was surprised to see my name there more than once. I've yet to try the other things so looking forward to coming back and doing so. Connected to this is a tea place where you can wait and will lose more of your money there...... But I know better.
Nut allergy friendly - there are standard Vietnamese dishes with peanut to avoid like the spring rolls, but the pho was great. We arrived around noon on a Sunday and were seated without a wait for two people, though they were pretty consistently packed during our entire time there. We got our Large Pho within 15 minutes, even after they noted a mistake where our ticket was dropped in the back, so service is usually very fast. They gave us water bottles on being seated (of a very recognizable brand, haha) I had the Large Pho Tai Nam Bo Vien P08. The broth was light but still quite flavorful. The amount of noodles was definitely enough to fill me up. There were only a few meatballs and a good bundle of other meats, but they were also very tender and flavorful. In comparison to Tan My, I'd say the value is a bit worse for portions and meat quantity but the quality is a bit higher. We took some pho to go and the packaging was stellar, nicely layered meat and noodles and hot broth. Would recommend if you're in the area for sure. read more

No need for a fancy review. This is a lovely simple and straight forward place to order delicious pho. The broth is hearty and has a rich taste with generous servings of meat. Food comes out quick as well. Just watch out if you have a late lunch because it closes at the 2:30. Make sure you emphasize what you order when ordering any type of combination. They mixed up our order on that. read more

Vietnamese cuisine is one of my favorites for being deliciously flavorful yet light and comforting. After our 5k run in the chilly, rainy weather we needed something to replenish not only our body's but our souls lol. Pho Phong Luu delivered. A small establishment so expect a wait, it was very busy on a Sunday afternoon. We waited about 15-20 minutes inside the boba shop to be seated. Once seated, service is very quick in typical Vietnamese fashion. We ordered the large pho Dac biet, the bahn mi dac biet and the Vietnamese milk coffee. All did not disappoint. The broth is so clean and perfect that I did not feel the need to dress it up with sauces like I usually would. Bahn mi was nice but probably wouldn't reorder simply because I prefer beef. Milk coffee was strong and yummy. When you're done eating, be courteous and finish up quickly so others can be seated. This place is definitely worth the visit if you're willing to wait a bit. read more

Went here on Sunday around 11:20. Place was packed and the wait was about 10-15 minutes. I had to share a table with another group. I got a bowl of pho which for Austin is at the right price (15 dollars, 2 more if you want a large). Over the phone had a light beef flavor not too much fat which is slightly different for those who grew up eating Vietnamese food. The size is okay, I wasn't full but I wasn't hungry still. read more

Ever since my favorite pho place closed down due to an unfortunate car crash incident, I have been craving a comforting bowl of chicken pho. I had tried Pho Phong Luu a long time ago, and the only thing I remembered about their pho is how big the portion had been, so I decided to give it another chance. I ordered their chicken pho to-go. Just as I had remembered, they provided a generous amount of noodles and chicken. They also give you a ziplock bag with bean sprouts, Thai basil leaves, two jalapeño slices, a lemon wedge, and small packets of hoisin and sriracha sauce. This pho definitely satisfied my craving, and I will be coming back again. I only wish they offered a smaller size, because their regular size is too big for me. read more

I have nothing but good things to say about this restaurant. From service to food and especially their banh mi - pure perfection. TLDR: get the banh mi, get the pho, get both. You will have no regrets This is such a gem tucked away in a quaint neighborhood. All the times that I have gone, this place has hit that comfort spot for me. I always have the same dilemma, do I want the pho or do I want the banh mi or do I want both? And this dilemma exists because both are so freaking good that the opportunity cost of getting one but not the other is so high that it quite literally makes me sad. And every single time, I fall victim to this dilemma because I always just end up getting both. My usual order is this Pho Special which has all the meat options! The broth is refreshing and flavorful. Portions between the noodles and the meat are just right. I love that they give you pretty much even amounts of all the different types of proteins with the order so there is a consistent variety across the board. I do wish that they put a little bit more onions for a bit more kick. I did order onions on the side until I learned my lesson that it was $1 extra. NOW this is what you need to come for, THEIR BANH MI!!! Whether you are vegetarian or a meat eater, the secret to their banh mi is their bread. I have never had a banh mi with bread as soft, crunchy, warm, and crisp as the one hat Pho Phung Lu offers. I personally have always gotten their Banh Mi special which has all the proteins and it has never missed. Something about the texture, something about the sauce, something about that bread that makes this such a bomb banh mi. And if you are like me, battling your internal dilemma, I would highly recommend even ordering the banh mi to-go. They are so intentional with their packaging that if you tell them you are taking it home, they would pack the pickled veggies on the side to preserve the bread. It's good. But not mind-blowingly good...so I'm still wondering why the hype is so big. There was ~20min wait for a table of two on a Saturday, and they ended up seating us at a larger table shared with another two-person party. It's a pretty new-looking, big space and it was definitely poppin' at lunchtime. It seems they're still pretty covid conscience at the moment with all servers wearing masks and several items served in single-use containers (sauce dishes, drink cups, bottled water, etc). I will say that the broth in their pho is hands down the best pho broth i've ever tasted. It had a very sweet aroma, and it was packed with fresh, savory goodness. Delicious! Everything else was just fine. We got the Eye Round/Brisket Pho and a Build Your Own Pho with Eye Round/Flank/Fatty Brisket. They're very generous with the portions and do not skimp out on the meat in their pho, but this part i wasn't super impressed with. The brisket in the regular bowl was pretty tough. On the other hand, the BYO's fatty brisket was basically only fat. We also got the wings with garlic fish sauce--it came out hot and crispy and a tad on the dry side too. Vietnamese Coffee was good and hit the spot. Don't get me wrong, I'll definitely be back, and the broth itself probably makes it superior to any other pho place i've been at...but i just feel like there's still a bit of room for improvement even with all the raving reviews. We went to eat here for Mother's Day for our first time. It was about 1:00 pm. The place was packed, we got on the wait list and they said it would take 25-30 minutes. It only took about 15 minutes. We told them we were happy to share our table for four with another couple, as the place was so busy. The server was very welcoming and efficient. Our order was taken promptly and we had water followed by food quickly. The menu is not extensive, which means they really specialize in what they offer and food is fresh. We ordered pho (one with flank steak and one combo) crispy chicken wings with garlic fish sauce , & taro & mung bean wontons. We both were wowed by the broth in the pho, some of the best we have had. The pho was served with a generous side of sprouts, basil and lime slices. The crispy toasted wontons were so good, you should consider ordering two orders, I'm sure we would have kept going if we had more! We ate the appetizers and could not finish the pho. That will be lunch tomorrow. Bottled water was provided free with our meal. This place is a winner on all counts. read more

The broth was so delicious and decadent, we barely had to add extra sauces to it! Perfect as it is. Their meatballs for some reason really stood out to me, tasted different than other spots. This tasted like the authentic Vietnamese pho that I had in Saigon because the broth was fattier than other places, exactly how I like it. Spring rolls were good too. We asked for addition of shrimp to our nem nuong rolls and they were very accommodating. Good service. We were quickly seated. It was packed when we went there for NY though. I just moved from Garden Grove California and I was sure that it had the best Vietnamese food. Boy oh boy this place is super comparable and as authentic as some of the places I've eaten! Items I recommend: 1) Fresh grilled pork spring rolls 2) Pork Bahn Mi and 3) Beef Steak Pho!! The bahn me bread is done to perfection and the bbq pork is perfectly cooked. The pho broth is very flavorful , authentic and they added the right amount of greens! Will definitely come back again to try more as this is my go to Vietnamese restaurant in Austin. read more

This is the best pho in Austin hands down. The broth is incredibly flavorful and comes with a heaping portion of meat + noodles. Once you place your order, the food comes out in minutes. Order a large bowl for $2 more and you'll have leftovers. It takes about 20 minutes to get here from downtown Austin but it's worth every minute. read more

This restaurant understands Vietnamese flavors really well. We were not disappointed. I had chicken fried rice, May had Pho Tai Nam (beef). Vietnamese ice coffee (yes, even with 20F outside). The staff is very nice and accommodating. Definitely will come back. read more

Made a stop in Austin and came to see what all the hype was about. This place serves great pho with super flavorful soup and a generous amount of noodles that were just the right amount of chewiness. For pho, you can either pick bowls with set combinations or meet or customize your own, which I opted for. Prices were reasonable, service was fast, and food was great! read more

Another meetup lunch with my friend. It was her pick so Vietnamese it was. It was a longer drive for me but she had to be at work which was close. I used GPS on this location but once in the parking, the GPS was no help. So I drove from one end the mall to the other to find it almost near the end. This is a small run down place that was packed. Lucking out, a table just opened up as we walked in. Nice booth but nothing special. Quickly a woman came to take our order. Pho with brisket and beef, shrimp fried rice, shrimp spring rolls, and crispy chicken wings with garlic fish sauce. Yes, a lot of food but we like to sample and no complaints of leftovers. Woman back in minutes to bring water bottles and silverware and napkins. My friend and I started chatting. Before long our food arrives. She insisted I try the pho, so I grab the extra spoon and dig in and OMG. This broth is amazing. The spices so different that most Phos I have had. We all know the broth make the Pho. I try my fried rice and again new spices I am not used to but tastes amazing. A third of the way through, I remember the chicken wings and spring rolls. I dip the roll in the peanut sauce and bite it. It is good but I have had better. Next up is the wings. So messy but it is crispy and the sauce while lite was good. Of course plenty for leftovers and since my friend was heading to work, she told me to take it all. She paid but from what I recall the prices were reasonable. This is my second time here and it's hands down one of my favorite pho places in Austin. I always get seated immediately and served quickly. Servers are quick and nice. My friend and I both got P09 Combination Pho and the chicken wings. The pho's broth was great, not too salty or oily. There was reasonable amount of meat and bean sprouts on the side. The regular size was the right amount to fill me up. The wings were crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. I loved the fish oil flavor/sauce. I don't hang around this area often, but I do think I'd go here specifically to get this pho. Love how it's in a shopping area so there's ample parking. Great pho place in N Austin. We each ordered spring rolls: shrimp for me, grilled pork for BF. Shrimp was on par with other spring rolls I've tried (cucumber was a nice touch). The pork sausage was flavor packed and included crunch from fried egg roll wrapper rolled and tucked into the spring roll providing a nice crunch to each bite. I ordered the combo pho (Large). Warning: Large means extra broth, noodles, and meat. Our waitress did warn me but I had missed lunch and was hungry and up for a challenge. Tried my best but didn't make the clean bowl club. The flavor of the broth is amazing; we could taste the cinnamon and lemongrass. BF loved his meatballs and voted it best pho in Austin. We loved this pho in 100+ weather.. already looking forward to the next visit! read more

This place has been moving in the wrong direction. Customer service and quality have taken a huge slip. Now that they're settled in, the guy behind the counter (maybe owner) is openly picking his nose in public and corners are being cut in more ways than one. How disgusting! Who knows how hygienic they are in the kitchen if they're okay with doing that. Cleanliness is also lacking here. I really wanted to love this place especially due to its proximity. But damn they made it impossible! Don't waste your money or belly space here. read more
If you love pho, this is the place to go. Plenty of my fellow Yelpers have already raved about how great the pho is, so I'm not going to add another pho photo or review, but I will fill in a few things they have overlooked. When you pull into the strip center on Dessau Rd, you'll find that there is ample parking. As you enter into the establishment, you immediately notice how new, clean and organized it is. There's a total of 18 tables, 4&6 tops, but no out door tables. The chairs and benches are quite comfortable as well. We got here at 5 o'clock on a Friday, and the place was almost empty, but by six it fills up. Service is prompt, and as soon as they seat you, you get a complimentary warm bottle of water. They do have some other drink choices, but no alcohol. I went to wash my hands in the men's room and noticed that it is a small, but very clean bathroom with no urinal. It's at this point I would have extolled all the virtues of everything that was served, but my fellow yelpers have already done that for me. So skipping to the bill,.....they will bring you a handheld credit card device to your table for you to sign off on and tip. Sorry, no fortune cookie. Check out the "no food" photos below. read more
