I really dislike this place. The pho is mediocre at best and the service is less than subpar. The waitress was wearing earphones and listening to music while taking my order, she was very unattentive and I had to ask for more water. The manager walks to every table to make small talk that lasts way too long. I understand some might appreciate this, but I would like to eat my meal in peace. There are quite a lot of Pho spots in Austin, and this one is my favorite. I guess all of the Pho places have certain amount of MSG in their broth. I can't taste it here, but the broth beats all other ones I ever had in my life. Owner said they don't use MSG here, so I believe her 90%... the best I can do. The broth here is on the clear side. The only reason why I am not giving this place 5 stars is because of our server. She wasn't the best host. My husband and I ordered Spring Rolls (they were not as big as we expected, but they were really nice and fresh AND came with peanut sauce). He ordered the Vermicelli with grilled pork and I ordered a small Pho with brisket. My veggies and herbs came in a plastic bag (the bean sprouts were getting a little brown because of the moisture in the bag, but not bad). Both of our meals were well portioned and were honestly really really good. We just moved from California and tried a different Vietnamese location a few days ago, but the food here is soooo much better! We used to love this place for 2 yrs and went there every week for pho and grilled pork dish. We ordered in the same dish after covid 19 and noticed that the quality of the food went down so bad. We ordered grill pork dish last week for delivery. Although there was little sour odor we ate it anyway. We ended up getting sick from it. We were not sure what to blame so we ordered the same dish again. We tried the usual grill pork dish yesterday and the sour odor was very strong. We could not eat it. I have been loyal to my beloved Pho Saigon for years. I think today that has changed. The service was outstanding. The food, of course the shining star, was great! It tasted authentic, but I've only ever had pho Saigon which is what I'm judging off of. It was much much better than PhoNatic, I must say. The broth was light but very flavorful, the meat was how I like it, and a very generous amount! I ordered a p3, with a coke, and paid 8.77, which to me is a great deal. Well everyone, I plucked up my courage to try another Vietnamese restaurant. My expectations were low, but I ended up having a good experience! I tried their pho with brisket, tripe, and tendon. Their brisket was pretty good, and the broth was pretty good. I was later informed that they never add MSG, and I could tell! I also really liked the price point. Be warned, if you order the large size, it's pretty large and you get a LOT of noodles. My friend tried their bun bo hue (spicy beef noodle soup). It comes with a side of chili flakes and shrimp paste that you add on your own so that you can customize the spiciness. I never had that happen before, but it seemed like a good idea since some people differ in their preferences of spiciness. Service was really amazing. The waitress (I don't know her name because they weren't wearing any name tags?) was very kind to us. She was fluent in both Vietnamese and English, which was great. The only side note was that I wished she would let us know if something would cost $1 extra if we wanted to add something. Would probably return when I'm craving pho! read more

If you're ravenous and happen to be on Parmer, Pho Phi is a decent choice to find food that will fill your belly. Their portions are impressive. The food, on the other hand, didn't impress us at all. We ordered some spring rolls, pho with brisket, and vermicelli with pork. I also splurged and got an iced coffee (cafe sua da). Of all those items, the iced coffee stood out to me the most. It clearly conveyed to me who Pho Phi's target clientele is: people who are Vietnamese food newbies. Traditionally, when you order a Vietnamese ice coffee, you're presented with a tiny French drip and a glass of ice. The French drip brews the coffee into a cup that contains condensed milk. When it's done brewing, you stir the condensed milk and coffee together, and you pour it into a glass with ice. Most Vietnamese places will serve their iced coffee this way. Not Pho Phi. Instead, the iced coffee comes out pre-made a la Dunkin' Donuts. I am pretty sure that they do not use real condensed milk. It tasted very powdery and chalky, like it was made from some sort of instant mix. It was probably the worst iced coffee I've ever had. As for the food: both noodle dishes were edible, but not particularly enjoyable. My pho broth was extremely oily and the meat was excessively fatty. The fish sauce served with the vermicelli wasn't sweet, spicy, tart, or salty. It just tasted like diluted fish water. The worst and most offensive dish was the spring rolls. The wrapping was thick and chewy, and the filling was bland and overly noodle-y. On the plus sides for Pho Phi: the place is really clean, the servers were overly friendly, and the portions are massive. If this is your first time eating Vietnamese food, you'll probably enjoy it. I'm just way too spoiled by my mom's cooking to overlook the details. read more

Disclaimer: I had the vegetarian Pho is veg broth (I know, totes boring, right?!) Well, it was. The veg Pho was rather disappointing in flavor. The tofu in it was superb, though! I could of just snacked on that - and pretty much did. The veggies in the Pho were fresh and not overcooked. Just overall wasn't any flavor there. I also ordered veg spring rolls, which were on the same flavor spectrum. I don't expect much of tofu, but there wasn't any basil or crunch or anything to it. Located next to Palm Beach Tan, right were the old Food Shui used to be. Zero wait, at 10:30AM, was seated promptly. The table was pretty small, there were two chairs but I think it should be a one person table. There were other larger tables on the side.I ordered P13, Dac Biet, which costs an extra dollar, and a glass of water. My bowl came out fast, not a lot of onions but that's okay. I noticed the broth clear but was darker than other Pho restaurants around town and that's totally fine. I didn't have to add hoisin sauce because there was enough flavor there to eat it raw with a sprinkle of lime. The meat was pretty generous for a small bowl of pho, but I did pay an extra dollar for P13. I could be wrong but the cut of meat just wasn't on par with what I get at Pho Dan. "What the pho is this?" I thought to myself. There was pieces of meat with bright blue markings. I had an idea of what it was, never in my life have I been served meat with blue dye on it. I had to go back to work anyways paid for my check and bounced. I noticed a sweet aftertaste in my mouth afterwards that lasted a few hours, there was probably quite a bit of MSG in the broth. My cousin is addicted to that stuff but it's not for me. Would I come back, probably not, especially when there are better alternatives nearby. I rarely give 3 stars. I'm not terribly picky about my pho, but the quality of the pho here is just too off for me to not comment. I even came here at least 4-5 times with hopes that they would improve since I love their wait staff and the location. While my 3rd time was better than my 1st, it was still nothing to write home about. Their service here is amazing, but ultimately as a restaurant, your food also has to be delicious. At first glance, the pho is like most restaurants: super aromatic, filled with delicious noodles and beef, and lots of yummy yummy broth. But, instead of a light flavorful broth, the broth has always been too overpowering in either fish sauce or sugar. Other times the broth is so bland that I feel like I'm just drinking water! The broth always causes my stomach to feel a bit queasy afterwards. The noodles are also have a weird texture... sort of like it's been sitting in water too long. I've also tried the bun bo hue before and it was so off in flavor that I didn't even finish my small bowl of noodles. This place was near the hotel and had great reviews, so we gave it a try. My wife had the eye round and tendon pho. I tried the bun with grilled pork, shrimp and egg roll. For starters, we had the crystal rolls, which are the not fried Vietnamese egg rolls. The food was outstanding across the board. The pho had a rich, yet thin, broth that was full of flavor. The only criticism was that it was a touch too salty. The beef was excellent. The bun was delicious. It was a very big portion with nice sized shrimp and big strips of grilled pork. Two big egg rolls topped it off. The crystal rolls were standard, but very good, too. The service was very friendly and the place was clean. This one is a keeper! This is probably one of the best pho places I've been to. They have excellent chicken pho and the portions are enough for two on a small. The food is reasonably priced and did I mention the portions are good? The egg rolls are very good, freshly made, and they are generous with the dipping sauce. My favorite part about this place is how many alternatives they have to pho. The honey siracha chicken is my all time favorite and the pineapple sweet chili chicken is so good! They have several rice dishes as well that you can try. The service is friendly and fast. This place can get so slammed during lunch hours so patience is a virtue you must practice, but it is worth the wait! They forgot my egg rolls once and I had a hard time flagging someone down to get my hands on those suckers hence the four stars. Pretty crowded the day my husband and i wanted to try this new pho place. Don't go on a Sunday after church. Service took a while to order. We had to get someone's attention to order. Then it felt like we were the last table to get our pho. I think they make their bo vien(meatball) from scratch. It was good. After adding more pepper,fish sauce and what not, the pho was good. This place was incredible. We went shortly after they opened in the morning so the restaurant wasn't packed and we were seated right when we came in. The service was awesome, we were told about the specials right off the bat (egg rolls and vietnamese coffee) and we ordered both. The egg rolls were incredible and so was the coffee. We got the pho with brisket and flank and that was awesome as well. We will be coming back to visit this place, just the service alone would have me come back, and of course the awesome food is a plus. My husband and I thought we would give this place a try. I had the fried rice with chicken (C6), the chicken was very dry. I dashed some soy sauce on the entire dish to give it some moisture. I ordered a takeout meal of the rice with grilled meat (com thit nuong), which I thought was decent. I didn't really care for the meat, but the seasoning was bland yet flavorful. A lovely little place, very clean, well-lit, tastefully decorated - okay, the video screens are a bit out of place, but I've come to accept those as part of 21st century asian food 'ambience' - good service and the food is quite good. To some extent, Pho Phi might be the 'perfect' pho restaurant - like, if someone asked me "what is everything that you want in a pho restaurant?" I can easily make a list: the menu is not huge but it offers everything you would want. The pho itself is quite excellent and serving sizes are deceptively large. Ingredients are fresh. Service is good and the staff is very friendly. Again: clean, well-lighted. Easy parking. Prices are good. Pho Phi hits on every point. And (this is the hard part) they are *consistent*: my wife and I have eaten there perhaps 10 times, and it has always been a good experience. 5 stars because I honestly can't think of a single thing to ding them on. I see another reviewer felt that the atmosphere was a bit 'bright', and that is a fair opinion. But - speaking only for myself - I *like* clean and well-lit.
