Really happy this place isn't too far from home. I haven't had a lot of pho before but from what I have had, their vegetarian pho was better than my past experiences. I ordered a small size which I'm glad I did because it was more than I could finish. I over heard a server with a table behind us that all their egg rolls had pork, so if you're a vegetarian I wouldn't recommend the egg roll appetizers. A little disappointing because spring rolls are pretty tasty but it is what it is. Over all would recommend and it seems to be really popular for to go orders because the entire time we dined in, there was constant foot traffic of people picking up to go orders which is convenient if you want to pick up dinner on your way home from work. read more

Such a shame because the food is actually decent. The service is a complete udder mess. We ordered a simple take out order of two dishes, was told 15min. We get there 15min later and they give us one box...obviously not the two dishes we ordered. Forward 15min later, I see my food just sitting on the counter in the back for who knows how long. I've lived nearby for a long time now and never had an interest in coming here until a friend recommended it. I ordered the veggie pho with tofu and tofu spring rolls. The small portion was $7 and the rolls were $3.50. The small was quite a lot of food with tons of vegetables. My only complaint was that there were only 4 pieces of tofu. If I'm in the mood for pho I'll keep Pho Phi in mind for the future :) read more

I move around a lot and I find myself always looking for 'that' pho spot. Luckily, I live near Pho Phi; a mere 8 minutes away. I like to customize my soup like so: veggie broth with brisket and tendon, extra veggies, extra brisket, extra tendon. Oh yea, it's a monster. This has been the only spot able to accommodate and happily up-sell these add-ons to me. It's a $16 monster bowl of deliciousness! Moved out of LA to come to Austin and my girlfriend and I were trying to find a good pho spot after the gym and believe it or not this tops every pho spot we've been to in LA. I got the chicken pho and it was absolutely amazing! The broth was strong and warm; the amount of chicken was actually a lot to where I even gave some to my boyfriend. My favorite pho spot in north Austin. Bright and clean inside and the menu is straightforward. I tried their new spicy beef pho and it was very good. The broth was very flavorful but not too salty like at many other pho restaurants. The spice level was good too. Spicy, but not to spicy that I had to stop eating partway. I also like that they give you shredded cabbage with your bean sprouts and basil. All the pho that I have tried here has been good and the broth is consistently hot and flavorful. My two pet peeves with pho is when the broth is too salty or not hot enough and I have never had that happen here. Vermicelli bowls are also great if you're looking for something lighter! Overall great spot and I'll keep coming back because they are always consistently good. Price to value is also great! read more

Ordered meatball pho and eggrolls on Uber eat. The eggrolls were alright with pork, beanthread, and carrot filling. The pho was meh. It lacked flavor and tasted like the instant pho flavoring that you can buy at the Asian market. The meatball was the frozen meatballs that you can get in the frozen section of MT market or 99 ranch. Nothing exceptionally good. It is just another pho place catering to Austin lack of good Vietnamese restaurants like Houston or Cali. Pretty decent bowl of pho. Nice clean broth (no msg), healthy portions, and nice meats. Restaurant is also pretty clean, which is usually not the case at Viet joints. Only complaint was the noodles were broken and not as fresh which was a result of staleness. I'm assuming that's an anomaly. I'd be willing to come back. read more

I have been enjoying what I thought was Pho for over 20 years. The first time was in San Jose CA while I was attending SJSU. There was a place a few blocks from campus on my way back to my apartment. SJ has one of the highest Vietnamese populations in the US so the food was authentic and good. Fast forward to 2017 Austin TX. I have had Pho at 4 different spots in Austin (and reviewed 2 of them) with all being similar in taste and quality then I went to Pho Phi. Imagine having a steak at the Sizzler then the Golden Coral, then (insert whatever buffet you want here) and thinking "I like Steak, it's good". Subsequently, you go to Perry's Steak House and have a real steak. I bet your head would explode at the difference. I have no doubt that when they make food here, they are making it for royalty because it is "SO PHO KING GOOD!" I have been here 4 times over the last 6 months and each time has been 5 stars. I have had P1, P3, P13 and each is great with P13 (the special) being my favorite (word of caution, P13 has tendon). The broth is rich and flavorful but not too salty. All the different types of meat are tender and moist. The noodles pull apart with ease. I had a delightful discussion with the person that I think is the owner about "why" is this so different, why is it sooooo good. I have been eating Pho forever and but never had anything like this. Her explanation wasn't a secrete family recipe or magic seasoning from her homeland, it was simple. Everything is made fresh for THAT DAY, NOT WEEK. To make Pho broth alone takes 12+ hours with real bones and real marrow bones. When they close at 9PM they start the batch for the next day. At 9AM they have the days fresh broth ready. They don't do "Pre-Mix" solutions or do a HUGE batch for the week which is then frozen or refrigerated, they do fresh and nothing else. Same thing is true for the meat. No big batches refrigerated or frozen but cooked daily and done fresh. I know I will have other Pho from big batch places when I am not in Austin. Sometimes a McDonalds Hamburger is the only thing available but when I'm in Austin, I will never have to do that again. So repeat after me, "Pho Phi is so pho king good, so pho king good." read more

I usually love this place but today's service was so sub par I had to add this review. I dined solo and it took the vastly overwhelmed staff 7 min to serve me. I ordered the P1 which took more than 30 min to arrive table side. I had to get back to a meeting so had less than 10 to scarf down boiling hot soup. Come here for good pho but caveat- they can not handle a normal lunch rush and so will at least take an hour. read more

Very friendly and welcoming owner and service. The food was good but a bit inconsistent in flavor. The spring roll was hearty but not much flavor, same for the peanut sauce it was served with. The fried shrimp & pork in the bun were very flavorful, definitely stood out as one of the better vermicelli bowls I've had in Austin. But the fried egg roll was over fried and very dry & hard to chew. Hope they even out the quality of their good, it has lots of potential! read more

I am not a huge fan of Pho, but when I read Rob M.'s review of this place, I decided I had to give it a try. I went with 2 of my kids. The parking lot is shared with a few places, and it was pretty full, but I got a reasonable space. I walked into the restaurant, and was seated immediately. They asked us for our order before we even had time to read the menu. I would say this is both good and bad. But no worries, the staff was extremely polite and attentive! I ordered the #3, one of my kids did the same, the other kid just feasted on well priced (and VERY good) Vietnamese eggrolls. While waiting for the food, I noticed the place was clean. There was a TV by the register that displayed various menu items. The TV by the door (other side of the restaurant) was out of service. It was about halfway full (on a Saturday afternoon). The order came out in a timely fashion. Now, as I said before, I am not a big fan of Pho. However, I will say that this is the first time I have EVER finished my bowl. The broth was delicious! It was also very filling! I ended up getting a small, fearing I wouldn't finish, but I found myself wishing that I had bought a large! :) Overall, I gave them 5 stars. Best broth I've ever tasted, only bowl I ever finished, nobody was unhappy. My daughter that didn't order anything but eggrolls tried some of my #3 order, and has asked to come back. I visited on a busy evening on Sunday, it took a while for them to take my order due to high volume. However, they were attentive and answered my questions, and not once did I feel rushed. The place could use a little more lively decoration​. While not somewhere I would regularly go in to dine due to lack of aesthetic, I would definitely​ order to go as often as I can. Their fried pork dumplings​ with sesame​ were crispy, warm, and flavorful. I got the large pho with brisket and trimmings and the broth had a vibrant beefy flavor. The noodles were soft but not too delicate for them to break off under their own weight. The condiments (celery, mint, jalapeno slices, beet sprouts, ​and limes) were farm fresh. Really the only thing that kept this review from being 5 stars is the plainness​ of the venue but if that isn't a factor, you're in for some great pho! read more

UPDATE: I tried to give this place a second chance. I ordered a small eye round steak pho and they brought me a room temperature bowl of all noodles. The broth was so cool that my eye round steak would not cook. I brought it to their attention and they microwaved it. Seeing my bowl full of noodles didn't even prompt them to just give me a new bowl. They brought it out of the microwave and the noodles were still all there. I barely had any broth! The older lady that brought my guest and I our plate of bean sprouts, basil and lime only brought one plate when we both ordered the pho. I said, "we ordered two bowls of pho, we need two of these please." She said "no you get one" so I then said "no we get two". Mind you, there were barely enough items on the plate for one bowl of pho let alone two. She then went in the back and was yelling so audibly that's it was obvious what was going on, as well as embarrassing. DONT WASTE YOUR TIME EATING HERE. But the last 3 times I've been to Pho Phi, they've gotten my order wrong, either something was missing or outright wrong when I arrived home. My favorite place to get pho in Austin! Seriously, I recommend this place to all my pho loving friends. I always get the P1 (beef pho with lots of thin sliced beef) and it is delicious. The flavors are super fresh and they don't overcomplicate anything. The portions are also super generous. You can choose between the small and the large, but the small is already plenty if you have a normal sized stomach! My husband and I come here often, and while I stick to the pho (because it is just so good), he branches out to try everything else. The eggroll vermicelli bowl is great and so is the pork fried rice! This place is definitely a must for comforting soup! read more

Consistently good Pho and other dishes. My favorite is the P05. Eye-round steak*, brisket & flank - Tái, chín & nm noodle soup. Small is a huge bowl. The portions of meat seem to vary each visit but it never seems like they do it on purpose. I wish they would consider a low carb alternative to carb laden rice noodles such as low-carb zucchini noodles but as this is billed as a traditional Vietnamese Pho restaurant that seems unlikely. They do have a gluten free menu which I have yet to explore but plan to. Service is always very fast and water glasses are always kept full. This is one of my favorite go to restaurants and is never super crowded when I have visited. Great service, great food, and reasonable prices. read more

I was visiting my best friend in Austin, and for the first night, he was adamant about taking me here. It was really close to his apartment, and truth be told- we were all a little hung over so Pho sounded perfect. The place is really clean. Being 100% Vietnamese, I'm pretty well versed in pho restaurants. I've come to find that if the restaurant is super clean and full of white people, I shouldn't put much stock into the flavors of the pho. I wasn't wrong. But, fortunately, I wasn't 100% right either! The pho was not bland. It was not the greatest I've ever had in my life- I usually get Pho Tai Bo Vien (raw marinated beef and meat balls) at every restaurant I go to. The great thing about pho is that it is customizable. Sriracha, limes, hoisin sauce is all delivered right at the table at every pho restaurant so everyone can change their bowls to their own liking. The real determination whether the pho is 'good' or 'bad' is the quality of the broth and noodles. The broth was not as fatty or rich as some of the better pho I've had, but it was not completely bland either. The noodles were not overcooked. Overall, the pho bowl was pretty average. It was huge. I could have swam in the small, I can't imagine what the large looked like. Me and my friends ordered the Thai tea as well- it was also average. The reason this place gets a four instead of a three is because of the service. We had come in close to closing- and you would have not known it from the service. She was great. Very well spoken, had wonderful suggestions for my friends who were not as well versed in pho. Patiently explained each option. Why Vietnamese? I was hungry. I wanted something lite. I had very little time to eat. I was interested in trying something new. It was closest place around fulfilling my requirements. Tiffany, my waitress, but more importantly, a Vietnamese Connoisseur met me at the door, sat me at my table, asked if I had eaten Vietnamese food, then proceeded to educate me of the the spicy beef noodle soup I'd requested. A plate of fresh vegetables (red cabbage, bean sprouts, something white and curly, sliced jalapeño, and a stem w/basil leaves); another dish of red lemongrass, and fermented shrimp accompanied my bowl of spicy beef noodle soup. Before I could dive into my food, Tiffany, carefully brushed my nose with the smell of the lemongrass and fermented shrimp before having me add this to my soup. She had me taste the broth, first; then we added the lemongrass which took the taste of the broth to another level. She said the fermented shrimp would make the broth saltier, and that I could try it another time. I thought that was a great idea since the look of that fermented shrimp was a bit disturbing to look at. Tiffany picked up the chop sticks and lifted each piece of meat (beef flank, pork hock with tendons, and Vietnamese ham) to describe what I would be eating. My favorite Asian soup has always been Hot N Sour soup until I discovered this Spicy Beef Noodle Soup! It was absolutely the freshest, and most flavorful soup I've ever had! Arrived shortly before the 12pm lunch crowd and SO glad we did! The place filled up rather quickly and continuously had people filtering in waiting for a table. The establishment maybe has 10 4-top and 3-4 6/8 tops. The restaurant is clean and tables were bussed quickly. Waitstaff appeared to be understaffed with 2 main waitresses and then two random males came out of no wear to being the bill so we could pay at the table. I order the Pork Vermicelli with egg rolls. I prefer my fish sauce with a bit of heat or pepper flakes, which it didn't have and I had to cut up the this pork. Thankfully all tables have a few condiments including chili sauce. The vermicelli came with basil leafs which was new to me and I probably wouldn't mix them in again like I would cilantro. Overall, the flavors are delicious. The eggs rolls are freshly made, light and crispy. I suggest they offer a small side plate if egg rolls come in the vermicelli bowl, my egg rolls had to sit in the bowl and one became soggy from the fish sauce. My coworker ordered the pho. The small is enough to feed you for a meal and take home leftovers! She ordered a side of egg rolls ($1 off with the purchase of an entree). However, they forgot her egg rolls with her meal and it took 10 minutes to flag someone down and another 10-15 for them to very obviously make new egg rolls. (Egg rolls came out super hot and inedible for a few minutes). The waitress was nice enough but rarely present. There are many specials not on the menu, but on a tv screen (siracha lime chicken and a pineapple fried rice). The screen showed the restaurant provides catering of some sort (like ordering massive amounts of egg rolls). Although, I wasn't able to see all the details. We never received any drink refills on our water or an offer. Understandable for lunch rush, but still a nice offer. I appreciated the bathrooms were clean, functional and smelled nice with ample soap and paper towels. We stopped here yesterday on the way home from Dallas as our usual favorite place was closed on Sundays. After reading reviews we thought this would be a safe bet. While my husband's pho broth was tasty , he said it was lacking in ingredients- he ordered the beef, tendon, tripe combo and very little tripe as tendon was evident. My tofu vermicelli bowl had nice veggies and noodles but the fried tofu was definitely hours old- little hard rubbery cold cubes of blah with an old oil taste. Same for the egg rolls- tastes like they'd been dried hours ago - like something off an old buffet line. To top it off , we were in need of a drink refill and wondered what happened to our server and saw him sitting down to what looked like a much fresher plate of food in the back corner- he never returned to the table after delivering our food. Can't chalk our poor service up to a hectic restaurant as we were one of two tables being served. Not sure what prompted all the 4 star reviews here, but we will look elsewhere next time. read more
