Tried this place recently for the first time when I had a craving for Pho since CoVid shutdown. We came in evening time and there's one other couple dining in. Service was topical what you expect, nothing extreme. The food we ordered was satisfying. Pretty quick to serve and got exactly how we ordered. Pho is always the best cure for a wild night out in Austin! We had a very large party so we had to split up our group into three tables but that was fine with us. We got the spring rolls, which taste like any other spring roll you make or get at a restaurant. I got the combination pho because I was craving clear and simple broth but regretted it when I tried my friend's bun bo hue! My combination was just ok, I thought the broth needed more love. Almost tasted like it wasn't seasoned well or it didn't simmer long enough for all the flavors to come out. Also got a side of extra meatballs because it doesn't come with the combination, which this was the first time I have experienced getting combination and it not coming with meatballs. You can expect an excellent meal and service at this restaurant! The setting is casual, but they still have waitstaff to refill your drinks and check in on you. The meals are really cheap (large beef pho for $9) and the portions are HUMONGOUS! I am what you might call a 'big-eater', and I couldn't finish all of my soup! They certainly will not skimp here! To be fair, I did order a large instead of a small, but I would be a fool to order a small when I could get the large for only a dollar more. I had the round-eye steak pho and it was delicious. The cuts of meat for the beef round-eye were thin, medium-rare, slices of beef. They were tender, flavorful, plentiful, and not at all fatty. I almost wish the beef was even more rare because although it starts off being medium rare, the soup is warm enough to continue cooking it, so the meat is medium/well done by the time you finish your meal. We also ordered a green tea. They use real loose leaf tea in a tin teapot, and it was really cute and refreshing. Really, no complaints at all. To be fair, I have to update my review to a 1 star rating because my experience on my last visit was terrible. I've been here many times for lunch without any problem until my last visit. I'm familiar with the older lady and the owner who has waited on us. The new girl working there waited on us this time. After being seated, waiting quite awhile, I had to flag her down to tell her I was ready to order. My pho ridiculously long time to come out!! After 15 minutes, my friend was almost done eating her bowl and I still had no food. I had to flag down the waitress again and ask, is my food ready yet?? She said she'd check but didn't go check. I asked the older lady if they had forgotten about my order or even put it in. Several patrons at other tables had been seated after me and all received their food!! This is lunch time and my friend had to get back to work. Finally, my pho bowl came out. The older lady apologized but the young waitress never came by our table again! The pho broth is not as aromatic or flavorful as it used to be. The flavor of the broth is weak compared to the other pho restaurants I know. Another annoyance was that my new waitress insisted my friend order her food right away --- before I arrived. So tacky!! There are many places to eat pho in Austin that don't take this long to take an order and get the food out. I won't be back here anytime soon. read more

I don't like giving local businesses a 1-star rating but this has to be one of the worst Pho place in Austin. I really didn't like it, no matter how hard I tried. I went by 3 times thinking it'll be different or better but every time I go, I get disappointed. Coming from a Vietnamese background, it truly is not good. You might as well get KFC or McDonalds, to save the time and money. We ordered the "Pho Dat Biet" and "Bun Bo Hue". The food presentation wasn't great and the flavor was not there. Let's wax philosophic for a moment: I liked my food at Pho Phi, I thought the staff was cool, I'm just uncertain how often I'll be there. Because I happen to like Pho Saigon & Pho Dan too. I could make a similar case with the Original Pancake House next door - it's good stuff, but there's a lot of Snooze, Kerbey, and Café Java around these days. Know what I mean? Okay, wax off. Unless it's really cold or wet outside, I'd rather do a vermicelli variant over pho, and the $9 grilled pork with dual egg roll was good eats here. The $7.10 small order of pho tái seemed pretty generous, with lots of meat (ask for meat on the side), but I tasted neither the broth nor meat so I can't help you there. On the Monday night we were here, ordering entrées got you discounts on egg rolls, spring rolls, and a decent Viet coffee. That was cool. Pho Phi is wait service, it could probably be as efficient with counter service & runners, and if you pay your bill by card they'll whip out an iPad at the table. Nothing wrong with that, I just tip better when percentages aren't suggested. I was actually trying to remember how different Pho Phi's interior was from the previous tenant, Food Shui. As a Vietnamese person I'm pretty picky about my pho, and I've been to many pho places around Austin, and this place by far has the best pho hands down. Super flavorful and rich and you can tell it's fresh and made with love. They give you a huge serving for a great price, and are always timely and kind. Love the workers and the food (not only is the pho amazing, try everything!) PS I literally drive 30 minutes to eat here even though I live close to like 5 different pho places. Small little restaurant that is great for a quick lunch/dinner. This was my second time here, the first time I ordered the Vermicelli bowl and it was good. Service was poor this time around, they didn't give us our drinks until we had to remind them. My boyfriend had the Pho which I tried and thought the broth was decent but not the best we've had. I ordered the Com Thit Nuong with an order for spring rolls (Cha Gio). They were pretty stingy on the meat, only 5 thinly sliced pieces were on my plate. The plate itself cost about $9/$10 bucks. I don't think I'd be coming back here again unless it was to try something else on their menu. read more

We frequently get Uber Eats from Pho Phi (about once every week or so) and consistently they have delivered great food. I always feel like I need to preface reviews of Vietnamese cuisines by stating that I grew up surrounded by traditional Vietnamese food, so I've been on a lifelong search for the best viet places. The Good: in my opinion, if you can have pho delivered and it's still delicious, then it wins a great deal of points in my book. The broth is bright and full of flavor. Of the vietnamese restaurants that taste pretty good, few I know are that particularly clean. This place looks thoroughly modern and inviting with the lighting and makes you feel welcome. Staff are nice but the service can be slow...even if the restaurant isn't that packed. Think we waited a good 5-10 minutes before anyone noticed we needed more water or were done eating. That aside, the food here is some of the best I've had in Austin. My wife said the pho broth is the best she's had anywhere - I think I've had better but its still pretty good. I got a pho with brisket, flank and eye round and the broth is pretty sublime overall - very good depth to it with a slightly sweet afternote rounded out by a very clean taste. It does get a little boring after a while (especially if you get the large) if you're trying to drink the broth straight up but you can change up the flavor profile with some hoisin, chili sauce or lime (though I personally don't like the lime). If you order a large, be prepared for a food coma at the end...it's a lot of food. You can also get cheaper drinks and apps on the side if you order with an entree which is nice, but hard to believe you'll need more food given the portion sizes. Love this place's Bun Bo Hue. I am Vietnamese and have high standards for this dish. I love the broth, but my favorite that I've never had anywhere else is the high quality pork hock they give in the soup. Usually the pork hocks at all the other places give you very little meat and it's mostly skin. Not sure where they get their pork hock but it's the best I've ever had. Has plenty of meat and just the right amount of a fat rim and skin. Their prices are a steal at this level of quality and they always get our order right through Uber Eats delivery. From a Vietnamese perspective, I gotta say that's it's not bad at all. As you take a sip of the broth, you could barley taste any MSG. And that's a good sign!! I got the pho tai with bo vien (beef filet pho with meatballs) and wasn't bad but wasn't "wow!" A great amount for the small bowl. I find the little meatballs very cute for some reason because they're sliced so thin. The side ingredients tasted fresh, no soggy bean sprouts or leaves. Rather eat here than pho Saigon. I think this is an okay pho place so far in Austin. Mediocre but has its own flavor to it. Com xuong on the other hand wasn't great. Rice was hard and the meat wasn't good. read more

Really happy this place isn't too far from home. I haven't had a lot of pho before but from what I have had, their vegetarian pho was better than my past experiences. I ordered a small size which I'm glad I did because it was more than I could finish. I over heard a server with a table behind us that all their egg rolls had pork, so if you're a vegetarian I wouldn't recommend the egg roll appetizers. A little disappointing because spring rolls are pretty tasty but it is what it is. Over all would recommend and it seems to be really popular for to go orders because the entire time we dined in, there was constant foot traffic of people picking up to go orders which is convenient if you want to pick up dinner on your way home from work. read more
