Good food, terrible experience ! My partner and I came to eat at this place -- it was our first time here on a Saturday night after hearing lots of recs as people who live in West LA. I'm about to sit at this booth that's empty , but this musty blonde told us that we should put our names on the waitlist. With the music blasting, I could barely hear her and was confused on the waitlist and where it was.. bc there was a free BOTG. I tell my partner abt it so she calls her again to ask about what she means, and this blonde explains a bit and as my gf begins to ask a clarifying question, she ROLLS her eyes at us in our face, scoffs, and leaves mid question! It took us asking 3 times and asking another server why we needed a waitlist to find out they save booths for larger parties, only for two parties of two to come after us and sit at each empty booth. When we asked the other server and let him know what happened, he didn't even care and it seemed like this is a common occurrence. He didn't apologize for her, talk to her , or make us feel better bc he knew we were upset. I felt very disrespected and disappointed, because we never have been here and were just wishing for a positive experience. So if you come here, know their employees have a stick up their butt on Saturday nights and feel comfortable giving poor customer service. Just do take out. read more

This Vietnamese restaurant is so close to my house and it reminds me of living in Vietnam so I frequent it. The banh mi is excellent and the bread is flaky and soft. Came here on a weekday for dinner and it was packed! The have a good variety of pho variations on their menu, appetizers like egg rolls and some rice dishes as well. They have some special items too, but we stuck with the classics! I got the pho with the giant bone in soup. The meat was as so tender, it literally slid off the bone! Even baby was able to enjoy the meat as it was so soft. We also got a rice plate, and I really enjoyed the meat and veggies that came along with it. This place gives out huge portions with lots of meat (still enough for second meal -- not just noodles for leftovers). I got a 20% discount during soft opening, but even without discount the price is still insanely good. A meal under $15-20 is a win in my book these days. The flavor of broth was good but the broth itself was not gelatinous, and I feel like most high quality pho usually is. I think they didn't skim the scum properly because a bunch of the foamy white fat was stuck everywhere, which was particular evident in my leftovers. Noodles were a little soggy when served and absolutely collapsed after, which detracted a little from the overall texture because the soup also got gloppy from the rice noodles. Not bad at this price point and it's nice to have pho near campus!! The other dishes look pretty solid and I will likely be back. read more

Service was quite and courteous. The restaurant was full and I was seated right away. I don't expect much from Vietnamese restaurants in Los Angeles since the menus are heavily gentrified, but the food here was decent enough to kill the Viet food cravings I had without having to drive an hour to Little Saigon in OC. Things I ordered: Pho Dac Biet - broth was light and clear, but it definitely did not have MSG which was the one thing it was missing. I wish Asian restaurants would stop the "no msg" BS since it's been proven time and time again that it doesn't make people sick. Anyhow, the bowl was a 20/20/60 ratio of protein, noodle & broth. What I enjoyed most about the pho is that they served it with beef tripe and tendon. I haven't been able to find a bowl of pho in LA that served Dac Biet with those cuts - so that was a definite win! Soda Lemonade (Soda Chanh) - I would 100000% never order this again. I was given a cup of Sprite with some sugar at the bottom. This should have been made with lemons/limes, sugar and club soda/soda water. Pretty irritated that I paid 4-5 dollars essentially for a can of sprite. I would have just stuck to the glass of water. Summer Rolls (goi coun nem) - this is probably something I would come back to eat regularly. Comparable to the classic nem rolls from Brodard's in OC. It has the fried egg roll wrapper inside, and the sauce is also similar but very watery. I almost ordered the egg rolls to try, but they don't make them Vietnamese way using the rice paper instead of the egg rolls wrapper... so I passed that. Parking If you come at a time where you can park on Fig in front of the store, it's metered, definitely cheaper than parking in the structure behind the CVS. If you can't find street parking, there's a public lot behind the CVS off Figueroa and 32nd. No cash or attendant, but you do have to pay with a QR code. First 20 mins are free, $3.99 per 15 minutes after. read more

Had to check out this new pho place near USC because my friends and I were basically manifesting for this day to come - so glad that it's finally here!! My friend and I ordered the pho tai (what I almost always order) which was overall pretty good! Really rich and flavorful broth, albeit I do think it can be even more elevated by being less salty. If I had to be extra nitpicky, the meat is a little thicker and chewier than what I get from other places. However, it did satisfy my pho cravings so would love to come back and try out other menus! The broth was pretty decently, no complaints there but not the best I've had. I also got two drinks, lychee lemonade and thai tea. For the lychee lemonade, I'm not really sure what to make of it. I barely tasted the lychee, it was the faintest aftertaste and I really had to look for the flavor. The lemonade didn't even taste like lemonade either. The only time I got a taste of citrus was when I accidentally poked my straw through the slice of lime and ate a piece of it. The thai tea is good for those who don't like it overly sweet. Full story- was walking with my advisor and his dog and obvi the dog couldnt go in so we just chilled outside while we waited for our food. But the staff still felt rlly bad and gave us a free thai tea!!! This place just opened up by USC and is always full, which is a great sign! The ribeye pho is a hit, as well as the bun. This review is only for the Vietnamese coffee that I ordered on Uber Eats. 1 star for fast delivery...1 star for taste. Not a good Vietnamese coffee by any stretch of the imagination. They definitely did not use good coffee or condensed milk. Whatever "coffee" they used was either burnt or old or not even coffee at all. They most likely used some sort of sweetener or cream instead of condensed milk. Absolute garbagio. Do not waste your money on it. Worst customer service experience. I've been coming here since they first opened and usually visit at least twice a month. I've tried many menu items including vermicelli, pho, and egg rolls, and the food has always been decent. Recently, we placed a to-go order and I asked which item was which because someone in our group has a specific food allergy. Instead of helping, the worker told me that we should have indicated that when ordering and said the food was already packed. Basically telling us to figure it out ourselves. That response was unacceptable, especially when allergies are involved. The food was okay, but the customer service was terrible. The owner should retrain this employee. Solid bowl of Bun Bo Hue! There was a waitlist when I came since the restaurant's a bit on the smaller side, but we didn't have to wait too long. If I'm judging my experience alone, I enjoyed the place. Staff was friendly and food was fairly priced for a decent portion. My friend got the pho, and that wasn't that good. With no sauce or toppings in it, the broth was a bit too sour for my taste. However, there isn't a lot of Viet cuisine near the USC/DTLA area, so I do see myself coming back to either eat the Bun Bo again or try their other dishes! read more
