Thai green milk tea
Hannah C.

A go-to spot with great food conveniently located right by USC. I've visited innumerable times over the past few years, and every visit has been amazing. The interior of the store features beautiful decor and plenty of seating. It tends to get pretty busy with students on weekends, but there's never too long of a wait. The service is standard: the waiters do tend to rush along your meal. I've tried a variety of dishes here, and they've all been fantastic. I love the classic pad thai with chicken. The Thai red curry is another delicious option, a sweet and spicy coconut curry with bamboo shoot and bell pepper. The portion sizes are generous, and each meal is seasoned to perfection. For dessert, the mango sticky rice is solid, and the mangos are always perfectly sweet and ripe. Definitely one of my most frequented restaurants in LA, and I've never had a bad meal here!

Been coming here for years, have ordered several items off the menu. Take out, dine in or delivery, one of my "go-to's" in this neighborhood. The food has been consistent over time and the service and staff are good people. The restaurant moved to a better location 2 blocks away, if you enjoy Thai food, this is a good option in the area. Some of my favorites are the dumplings, spring rolls, Pad Thai, Yellow Curry, drunken noodle with a thai tea. A nice laid back and comfy spot for lunch or dinner.

Love love love this place! Went with some friends and got an array of things to share. We loved it all. The mango sticky rice is a must when you're there! It's so creamy, flavorful and all hits the spot. The spicy rib eye salad, curry fried rice, pad see ew, pho,and edamame are on the savory side. Then the tom kha soup and curry are on the sweeter side. While the mango chicken and fried wontons and pork bites with their respective sauces are a great combo of sweet and savory! The only thing that I least enjoyed was the berry tsunami because the first few sips tasted like medicine but after some mixing and after the ice melted, it tasted as fresh as the berries mottled and the one on the rim. 10/10 would recommend!

HAINAN CHICKEN BUDDHA DUMPLINGS DRUNKEN NOODLE

Went to Thai by Trio for lunch with friends and was so impressed! The Buddha dumplings were the best I've ever had--light, flavorful, and topped with an amazing green curry sauce. The Hainan chicken was juicy with a perfect citrus dip, and the drunken noodles had that sweet, tangy, authentic Thai flavor. The staff were super nice and gave great recommendations on our first visit. Easily one of my new favorite Thai spots in LA!

Great friendly service! Quick to seat. Easy payment with Apple Pay available. Beautiful clean restaurant and clean restrooms. Plenty of seating and fabulous for groups. The lunch special was a great price and portion. Very delicious food. I got the Thai yellow curry and added some chicken. It was very delicious. There was also a lot of plant based options and the food was very customizable. I got to choose my spice level and protein. The side salad came with a delicious sauce and the egg rolls had a delicious veggie filling. Overall wonderful experience and I'll definitely be back.

I always recommend this Thai spot to anyone - but it's definitely a go to spot if you are a USC student! Food = Amazing and great pricing/portions. Service = Great but typical LA experience where they try to ask if they can take your plate when its semi-empty. Employees are very hospitable and kind! They bring the tap to pay mechanism to your table. Ambiance = Moody dim lighting, and the wood accents make for a great experience. Very high ceilings and love to come chat with friends here! My go to = Drunken noodle mild spicy level with beef and a thai milk tea! Parking = yes! go into the side street. My recommendation 5/5 come back!

first thing i noticed was the very cute interior! looks semi high end. the service was really quick and we got seated fast. we both got the pad thai and it was pretty yummy! it wasn't mind blowing, but it was a quick and affordable meal.

Thai by Trio is very convenient for large groups of people, especially since they have a lot of big tables and the food is served very quickly. We had a group of 10 and were seated immediately. I got the drunken noodles with beef and it had a good level of spice and sweetness, but I wasn't a fan of the quartered tomato (??) and the raw cabbage that wasn't incorporated into the dish otherwise. It would also be better with a bit more vegetable, since I felt the ratio was otherwise off.

THAI FRIED RICE

I was so excited to find a Thai restaurant near my house. I really wanted to love it but it didn't quite get there. The restaurant itself is quite lovely it's open and spacious and very nice ambience and decor, it's a nice place to go out to eat which is very much needed in the area. I had minimal interaction with the staff but the staff was pleasant in my dealings. I ordered the Thai fried rice w/ fried tofu but I needed the rice vegetarian style - egg was OK but no fish sauce no oyster sauce in the preparation - and unfortunately it was pretty bland. Particularly the fried tofu had no flavor. I have of course had plenty of Thai fried rice over the years and by comparison - to say my favorite place up in Santa Barbara - this was really lacking in flavor. I had to rely on soy sauce and what have you. I would try this place again just because it's such a lovely restaurant but hopefully they can get a seasoning situation together.

This place has amazing Thai food, we tried the Tom kha soup and bbq chicken and papaya salad which are our usuals at any Thai restaurant but this place was outstanding. We were impressed. The alcoholic beverages were tasty as well. I'd recommend if you're looking for a pretty affordable option with a super nice ambiance. The service was friendly and quick even on a busy afternoon.

THAI GREEN MILK TEA & THAI ICED TEA

Never disappoints! A nice curry on a cold, rainy day hits the spot! Have come here twice and got the Thai Green Curry both times! The curry is rich in flavor, tender chicken, and has a spicy kick to it. The chicken satay was also very tasty. I also would recommend the Thai Green Milk Tea and Thai Iced Tea if you want a fun drink! The inside is very spacious and has lots of seating that accommodates different party sizes.

The young girl with glasses was extremely rude. I went in to order egg rolls, mango sticky rice, and a Thai tea. They didn't have the sticky rice, so I changed my order to just Pad Thai. She rang me up for egg rolls, Pad Thai, and the tea. I corrected her, saying I didn't want the egg rolls, but she insisted "they're already making it." It had been less than a minute and I hadn't even paid yet. When I asked to cancel, she made a big fuss, ran to the back, and started speaking in another language with a hostile tone. Meanwhile, another older woman (who I didn't realize was an employee because she was playing on her phone) suddenly barged in front of me to use the iPad without saying excuse me, even bumping into me. Very unprofessional. When the girl handed me my drink, she didn't say a word, then turned her back on me as I left. Horrible service. I should've cancelled the whole order. Customers aren't obligated to pay for something just because it was "already input" within 20 seconds.

SPICY RIB-EYE SALAD

Thai by Trio - A Go-To Thai Spot Near USC Thai by Trio is hands-down one of the best Thai restaurants in the USC campus area. Located conveniently near University Park, it draws a steady flow of students and locals alike--for both dine-in meals and quick to-go orders. The interior features a clean, modern design that balances comfort and style. Whether you're grabbing a casual lunch or dining in with friends, the space feels inviting. The food is consistently flavorful and generous in portion size. Some favorites from my visits: Chicken Satay (4 pcs): Perfectly grilled and served with rich peanut sauce, this makes for an ideal starter. Spicy Rib-Eye Salad: A standout dish with tender steak slices that are full of flavor and paired with fresh greens and a spicy kick. Mango Salmon Salad: A refreshing and well-balanced dish--grilled salmon filets with mango slices and crisp veggies make it both light and satisfying. Thai Milk Tea w/ Boba is very popular among the desks while I think it might be too sweet. For mains: Pineapple Fried Rice and Phad Thai are excellent choices. Both are served in generous portions, often enough for two people. The Phad Thai features a sweet-savory balance with a crunch of peanuts and customizable protein options. Green Curry is aromatic and creamy, while the Red and Yellow curries pack more heat--too spicy for my taste, but perfect for chili lovers. Rice would be offered with the curry. Tom Yum Soup is an option too, though I found it a bit too heavy on spices, leaning toward an overpowering profile. Service here is consistently warm and efficient. The staff are friendly and the food is prepared quickly, making it a great option even on a tight schedule. Parking is available in the covered lot behind the apartment complex, which adds to the convenience--something rare around campus. --- In summary, Thai by Trio offers a great balance of taste, price, and speed--a dependable choice near USC for satisfying Thai cuisine.

Many dishes offered without soy or gluten?

I'm sure u can ask for them to not use soy or gluten. They were very accommodating when asked to omit it for me. You may want to call ahead to see if they have a soy substitute, I went gluten free ordered rice noodles.

Is this different than Trio house?

nope! trio house just moved down the block and re-branded a little bit!

The regular menu is quite expensive with the cheapest at $17 for appetizer and salad options and most expensive at a whooping $80. The lunch menu was more affordable but still on the pricey side $21-$32 with add on options. The waitress was taking our orders and what surprised me was with my co-worker ordered the pad see ew and the waitress asked her how spicy she wants it. I was aw shocked. I'm not a Thai food expert but I do know pad see ew is a noodles dish that's offers a sweet soy sauce flavor. Never served spicy. I didn't get to try the dish but when I asked my co worker how it taste she said it was spicy and not sweet at all. I'm not sure that was an authentic pad see ew. I ordered from the lunch menu and got the tumeric chicken, with steamed vegetables and paid extra $7 to substitute for a papaya salad. I asked for #2 spice level but it was not spicy at all. Other co workers said they asked for medium but it was way too spicy. So it looks like their spicy levels are inconsistent. I'm not sure how this restaurant can justify the prices with the quality they are serving. Probably won't be back. Service was mediocre. Didn't offer to refill our waters. I felt like I came to eat and my mom's house. They take Debit Card and Apple Pay WITH a pin only. I forgot my wallet and paid with Apple Pay. It did not have a place for tip which made me feel awful. At the end I apologized and she was like "it's ok, next time." And she was genuinely fine with it. She reassured me not to worry about it. So I'm determined to come back to tip her because if anybody deserved a tip it was her. I ordered Pad Thai with tofu- I like to order peanut sauce on the side and the woman found it interesting and struck a non judgmental conversion about it. I could really tell she was genuinely curious. This was my favorite dish. It was good. I also ordered spicy fried rice with tofu and spicy panang curry with vegetables. I chose 4 out of a 6 for spicy and it was not spicy at all for me. The rice was fine, nothing extraordinary and nothing bad. The panang curry was yummy. I don't know if it's regional but it was very light in taste and light in thickness. BUT I enjoyed it for what it was. Felt like I had gotten home made chicken soup or something like that comforting and not overly processed. Maybe it's because I ordered it with no protein and just vegetables. I ordered a lot of food so I explained to her that I was going to eat some and take the rest to go. When she brought the food she brought it nicely packed without a bag. She also brought me a real plate and utensils to eat here. She let me know that when I was ready she'd bring a bag which I thought was thoughtful. She also made sure to say "take your time, no need to rush. We close at 8" and it was 5pm. Again, it felt genuinely nurturing, she wanted to make sure I felt taken care of and welcomed. It meant a lot because I was frazzled from forgetting my wallet and from having a hard day at work. This was my first time here and it won't be my last. There is a small lot on site. This place is by far my favorite Thai restaurant and that's why it's so disheartening to write this…read morereview. I have written at least 2 glowing reviews of the restaurant in the past and wish this could be one of them, but it's not. Over the last 4-5 days I have tried no less than 2 dozen times to call the restaurant during proper business hours to order food for pick-up as I often do. The phone rang and rang to no avail. I live too far from the restaurant to just pop up and place an order so I rely on calling ahead. I have been a customer of this restaurant for at least the last 9 years and have almost never had the aforementioned experience. Though I do recall not being able to get a call through several times on one or two occasions in the relatively distant past. Today I was finally able to get a call through and began placing my order which includes shrimp. I ALWAYS request the tail (with shells) to be removed from the shrimp as I find it quite difficult to enjoy my meal if I'm constantly having to pick off shells with my hands. It's unsanitary and messy. Removing the tails from 15-20 shrimp prior to adding to an entree or soup should take no more than 60 seconds and that's if one is moving at a glacial pace. However, today I was told that the kitchen was too busy to honor my request. I assured the lady taking my order than I was a loyal customer and make this request will every order I place and it is always honored. She repeated her claim that the kitchen was too busy and refused to do it. I cancelled my order and ended the call. Now I usually order food from the restaurant 4-5 times a month and usually spend about $65 each time not including tip. That is approximately $325 per month of my hard earned money that I give to this restaurant in exchange for great food and service. I am appalled and quite upset that having been a loyal customer for almost a decade and spending as much money there as I do per month that they could at least honor my patronage by simply taking an additional 60 seconds in the kitchen to make my meal more enjoyable. Her refusal to do such a minuscule task has deeply soured my experience with Hoy-Ka not to mention the fact that I could not reach the restaurant for almost a week by phone for no apparent reason. I will not be going back to this restaurant until they rectify this situation.

Each time I've come the waitstaff has been super friendly, and the food amazing. So, when planning a little birthday lunch for my mom's 81st birthday, this was one of the first places I thought of. My mom lives in south LA and we live in the valley, so after picking her up, we wouldn't have to travel far to eat. Although we planned to arrive to the restaurant at 2, traffic was horrible and we arrived at 230pm. After looking for parking, I dropped the fam off at 2:40 so they could sit and look at the menu while I found parking. I get a text from my husband saying they closed at 3 so hurry. This was news to me, as I thought they closed at 5. I found parking and rushed in at 2:48, to see my family outside the restaurant. Perplexed, I went in to ask if we could still eat, as it wasn't yet 3pm. No wait staff came to the front to greet me, so I walked in a bit and asked the waiter if it was okay to eat. The waiter said we close in ten. I said I thought the website said you closed at 5. I must have read it wrong. I understand, but it's not 3 and we came a bit of a distance and it's my mom's 81st birthday. The waiter, whose name is Jack, offered to ask the kitchen if they would still make food. I said yes please would you ask? While Jack was asking, another waiter asked me if I had been helped. I told him yes, that Jack was asking the kitchen if we could still have lunch. This waiter says, we're closing in 10. I'd like to have lunch too. And walks away. Yes, with shade. Jack returns and says it's fine as long as we can order within a few minutes of getting the menu. I say great and we all come in. The 2nd waiter takes our order with the least amount of personality he possibly can, and the whole lunch is slightly awkward and we're not able to truly enjoy ourselves with the feeling of "we better hurry up and eat" lingering. By the time we ordered and received our food (which was delicious as usual) , there were still 4 other groups of customers there, and we actually left the restaurant within a minute or two after the last customers before us. Also, no one came around to ask how our food was and if we needed anything. I'm giving 3 stars because this experience didn't quite sit right with me. Yes, it was near closing, but your doors weren't closed and there was no sign saying last call/order at 2:45 or anything like that. I feel like once the kitchen approved making our lunch, customer service should have been at its peak for paying customers, who gave no attitude and tried to be as polite with the ask as possible. It was not. I still tipped 25%, because Jack (waiter 1) was polite and my 81 old mama who I was celebrating raised me that way, but I'm not sure I'll patronize them again.

The Pad Thai was the best I've had outside of Thailand. Extremely well balanced, not too sweet, not too tangy, not drowning in sauce, just perfectly done with great noodle texture and loaded with shrimp. The Pad Kee Mao was so flavorful. Smoky, spicy, full of flavor, and had that proper "wok hei" char that makes noodles addictive. The Pad See Ew was equally rich and savory, and deeply satisfying. We also got the turnip omelette (Kai Jeow with preserved radish) and it blew my mind, honestly. It is so simple, but packed with flavor. Somehow one of the best egg dishes I've ever had. The morning glory with pork was another standout, super fresh, garlicky, and cooked perfectly. Everything came out hot, portions were generous, and the whole table went silent because the food is too good to talk through lol. We got the raw shrimp salad, spicy catfish and bbq pork over rice. The raw shrimp "salad" is probably the best thing we've ate, but the chili sauce was over powering and couldn't really taste the freshness of the shrimp. And I feel like there could've been saw garlic to go along with it, but nope, just decorative cabbages that is not edible. As for the bbq pork over rice, the sausage was good and the crispy pork too. But the BBQ pork itself was HORRIBLE I literally spit it out. It tasted like old refrigerated dry meat, barely edible. And then the spicy catfish, the portion was so small, it looked like someone ate half of it. The pieces very tiny and it was so dry it tasted like it was refried. The spicy sauce didn't help much. And I overheard the table next to us waited around 30 mins for their dishes. Overall, I'll not be coming back here. There are much better Thai spots than this. Not to mention the parking is horrible as it was valet only on a Saturday.
