I came here with a friend on a Saturday at around 7pm, there was quite a bit of people but nothing overwhelming. The cashier had a bit of a temper, but it was the end of the work day, so I understand her. My friend asked her like 3 or 4 questions and I could tell she was getting visibility frustrated (the cashier). I decided to just place my order a bit more quickly than my friend and save us both the headache. I got the Let's Meat Up ramen and it was both flavorful plus full of meats. It was so good, and although filling, it left me wishing for a 2nd bowl, that's how good it was. I also looked through the side and you can peek into the window, both cooks greeted me in a friendly way and were having such a good time at what they were doing, kudos to them. The order also came out quickly and it was reasonably priced too. Highly recommended!

When the place has the word "ramen" in the name best you stick to that. Ordered that and a poke bowl. Kiddo ate the ramen but my poke was so sad looking. And they got the order wrong on that.

The perfect ramen spot for rainy weather! Had lunch here with a colleague during the lunch rush and we're lucky enough to grab a table inside. I had the Tonkotsu with chasiu pork belly and it was so good. The chasiu was perfectly seared but still soft and the ramen noodles were cooked to perfection. The broth was not too heavy and had so much flavor. Overall a great meal. Quick tip: try to come after 12:30 pm when it's not too crowded else you'll be waiting in a long line. But they make the orders pretty quick so it's not a long wait for food.

Noodles weren't great quality and broth was good but I don't think it was worth the price when Sawtelle is 12 minutes away. I did like the concept of the ktown ramen and the service was friendly but unfortunately that is all the good things I can say. I noticed the place had a lot of flies around the tray return area but maybe it's because things got too piled up. I also experienced a stomach ache afterward but that could be attributed to something else too!

I got a poke bowl and the wait for this was so long. It took 30 minutes and for 14$ the portion size was extremely small and does not even compare to other places I've been too. There isn't much customization options but their vegetables tasted fresh and were flavorful.

This place is alright-- nothing too special, but it gets the job done. Went here post-gym and ordered a ramen bowl. You need to go pick it up from the counter once it's ready. Employee was nice, had a good experience. Though, there were some interesting characters sitting and yelling in the back of the store, but I suppose that isn't too necessarily the establishment's fault. In terms of the food, it was okay. I did feel that the broth felt somewhat lackluster in terms of flavor as I was nearing the end, and the noodles were not the softest. But, for a simple place in the USC Village that is convenient to hit up after the gym, it works. Not too sure that I would come back here (especially since it is in close proximity to Dulce), but until next time!

It was a nice try!!! I really wish I liked this place more because the location is so good, but I would say that they need to work on the authenticity. The shoyu ramen was not bad, the noodles were cooked well and the meat was tasty. But with such a small portion and mediocre soup base, $16 is not really worth it for me. I also tried the spicy miso ramen and boy that needs work...the flavor and sauce were just done really really wrong haha because the soup tasted like water! Overall, there's room for improvement and I see lots of potential in this place!

Located in USC village, I was looking for a quick snack during a swim meet break. Found this ramen place that had spam musubi sandwiches. Ordered two because wasn't sure how big they would be. Hard to tell in picture but it's about 3x5 and thick. It's a small eatery with some indoor outdoor seating. Made to order so there was a short 5-10 min wait for the food. I thought it was delicious. Rice is seasoned, spam was fried, and egg was seasoned like tamago. I would definitely try other ones next time I'm in the area.

Got to trial the viral musubi sandwich "supamu" and it was hella good! Had the "big spam" which has two layers of spam, egg and a slightly sweet teriyaki sauce. If you like musubi you'll like this, they have a variety of types and it's basically tricked out musubi.

I think this place is quite overrated because it was the only ramen in the village. It tasted just ok and was enough to get me full but won't come back for good food. I ordered a soy sauce soup. The pork was grilled to burn. They didn't give generous quantity too. I've found much better ramen in LA.

I rarely post reviews but I am low-key pissed off. Their food is great and decently priced. However, they are NEVER open. Their google hours are wrong because they change it every day. I went in at 3p.m. today (regular school day so hours SHOULD stay the same) and they said they are closed until 4p.m. Ok fine. I go again now at 4:15 and they say 5!!! Lol this is just not good for my hanger.

I popped into this little ramen spot after finishing some meetings at USC. It's super conveniently located in USC Village, right next to campus. The ramen was pretty good, but felt a bit pricey for such a laid-back, no-frills place. You order at the counter, wait for your food, then grab a table or sit at the counter -- it's a self-serve setup. It just happened to be one of those rare chilly days in SoCal, so the ramen totally hit the spot. If you're into ramen, you'd probably agree with me: I'd rate it between 3.5 and 4, out of 5.

The restaurant really felt like stepping into a ramen shop in Japan, especially with the booths and the bar seating right in front of the cooks making the ramen. It was fun being able to watch them prepare the food. My friend and I both ordered the Daikoku Ramen since it was listed as their top seller on the menu. The broth was so rich and creamy, and the noodles were really good and chewy. The marinated egg was also cooked perfectly. The whites were nicely set while the center was still gooey, with a little bit of sweetness from the marinade. Overall, we really enjoyed the ramen and had a great experience. The location isn't super big and it does get super busy with people putting their names on the wait list and people queueing busily outside (overflow of people waiting for many of the other restaurants along this part of the block too). Overall the ramen isn't bad, chashu is nice and fatty and tender. Ramen is rich and filling. It's nice that it already comes with an egg too and you don't have to add another one. Lots of other side dishes and combos too if someone in your party doesn't want ramen. However, with the increases in prices, the fact that there's many other options in LT, and the fact that there are other Daikokuya locations, it's an alright LT option.

They were very knowledgeable in what was gluten free and what wasn't. The only unfortunate part is that all the meats are marinated in a sauce that is not gluten free. So you can only get tofu or no protein. Even if you select no protein, it comes out to be the same price. Other than the gluten free ramen, we ordered a karage bowl, dry spicy ramen, and spicy tuna roll. The karage bowl had chicken that was NOT fried. I'm not sure how it's cooked but the chicken came out slimy. I was very disappointed as I was looking forward to crunchy karage. The dry ramen had noodles that were way overcooked. The flavoring was okay. Nothing to be impressed about. The spicy tuna roll was probably the best thing there. They had pickled yellow radish that we thought was interesting.

That's the mood that pulled me into Maruya in Little Tokyo, Los Angeles. I ordered the chashu tonkotsu, the classic go-to when you want to judge a ramen shop by its bones. And the verdict? It was... fine. Not bad, not memorable -- just okay. The kind of bowl that doesn't offend you but doesn't linger in your memory either. No standout richness in the broth, no chashu slice that made me pause mid-bite. Just noodles, doing their job. This is actually the second ramen spot I've tried in Little Tokyo, and I'll admit -- I'm starting to feel a little underwhelmed by the neighborhood's ramen scene so far. For a pocket of the city with so much culinary history packed into a few blocks, I expected to be a bit more wowed by now. Two tries in, and I'm still searching for that bowl that stops me in my tracks. What did stand out, though, was the service. The staff at Maruya were genuinely warm and helpful -- attentive without hovering, quick to check in, the kind of hospitality that makes you want to root for the place even when the food doesn't quite deliver. It's the kind of detail that softens an otherwise middling meal. So, Little Tokyo ramen crawl: two down, verdict still out. The people have been great. The noodles? I'm still waiting to be impressed. I would most definitely order it again if I'm ever in the area and it's colder. I was seated at the counter and didn't have to wait long for the waitress to come around, who recommended ordering via the QR code on the wall in front of me. I liked that it wasn't the *only* way to order, though, and that I can still have a human interaction and order with the waitress if I prefer. There was so much on the menu that I wanted to try that I actually had a tough time ordering, but I eventually decided on the mabo ramen. I was surprised by how big the bowl was, filled with a generous serving of noodles and mabo tofu. It was fantastic, and such a unique ramen compared to what most places offer. I returned three months later on another weekend trip to L.A. and went with the chicken katsu curry. This time, my husband came with me and he got the tenshin chahan ankake, which is a big pile of chahan (fried rice) covered in a shrimp omelette with a gravy pour-over. The katsu was juicy on the inside and incredibly crispy on the outside, in a flavorful curry with a nice little kick of heat. My husband really liked the chahan and cleaned his plate. We finished the meal with an order of the pudding, which had a subtle caramel sweetness and wasn't too cloying or overwhelming. There was a stark difference in how busy they were the first time I visited versus the second. I think I just got lucky the first time and ate there during a lull, because there was no wait to get in on a weekend night and hardly anyone eating inside. But when I came by the second time, we had to put our names on a waitlist, there were a few parties ahead of us, and they were short-staffed. We were seated within 10-15 minutes of putting ourselves on the waitlist and the waiters and waitresses were all very nice despite the crush of customers. Food still came out pretty quickly, too. Kouraku will be celebrating its 50th anniversary this November. They've certainly earned it, and I hope they continue on for more decades to come. I'm looking forward to my next visit.
