I love Pho Binh. I have been coming here for years. My only complaint is the lack of parking. Since the whiskey bar moved in next door, it has gotten even worse. If you're willing to park in the lot down the street for $5, it's worth the walk for some pho, vermicelli bowls, and finishing with a slice of cake. I popped into Pho Binh on a few occasions - only for their pho - but this last week I decided to explore their other menu options since i was gonna sit poolside, and steaming pho in a bikini ain't the greatest idea. I'm glad I checked out other menu options, because I discovered they offer fresh, perfectly crafted, delicious shrimp spring rolls and fantastic tofu banh mi. Warm and chewy bread, crisp produce and bangin' fried tofu. The to-go order took longer than expected, but it was worth the wait. Now, if they were a bit more of a well-oiled machine like Givral's in Midtown, it'd be a great option for grab and go meals. We have been wanting to try out this spot for a while! We've been to the other chains of pho binh but, this spot is the best of all! Seating on the outside and the inside. Not much of a wait service as you order at the register and they bring out your food. I ordered the pho ga Kho which is the soupless chicken pho. With a splash of soy sauce to your noodles, to a fresh hot broth on the side, and really good chicken makes the perfect noodle dish on a rainy day! Went late one weekday night with my partner and it def hit the spot! AMBIANCE Small, cafe-like vibe with a decent-sized patio. Inside had nice decor, a modern twist on a traditional Vietnamese pho joint. Outside had good space (maybe 8 tables?) and lights. Inside and outside were both clean. Outdoors you abut the parking lot so it can be a little noisy, but the overall ambiance fits well in the neighborhood. SERVICE It's counter-style - order, take a number, and they bring you your food. It's fast, friendly, nothing fancy. They were more than accommodating when we went and asked for chili garlic sambal, extra limes, chili oil, etc. All pre-portioned and ready to be handed out! FOOD Delicious. We split an order of steamed chicken dumplings - large, fresh, excellent. Of note for a pho shop - I don't eat beef or pork, so always want to make sure pho places have good chicken-based broths and they delivered. I loved my pho and the mixed meat chicken added to it (I added some of the aforementioned sambal & limes). My partner opted for the Vietnamese grilled platter (?) that had a mix of grilled chicken, pork, and shrimp (he said all were super juicy and tasty), a fresh Viet salad (both thought it was delicious), and a scoop of steamed white rice. Pho binh is our go to in the heights. It's not the best Vietnamese food but it's pretty decent and gets the job done. I do enjoy their pho and their vermicelli bowl with shrimp and egg rolls. The avocado and coconut smoothie is my FAVORITE. The employees are always nice. Parking can suck since the lot is small so try to find a spot in the surrounding neighborhoods if you can. read more

I do love Pho and like coming to Pho Binh. My regular is the chicken one. I am addicted to their smoothies. Fav: Strawberry 3 star rating is due to service and their ice machine. It's going to be a new Favorite of mine. Loved the pho and thought it was very economical as well as delicious. I can't wait to try the fresh juices and other dishes on the menu but the pho was good. Great, trendy atmosphere. They were jamming Gloria Trevi and an eclectic mix of music on the speakers but at a pleasant volume that wouldn't interfere with conversation. I just really like this place. Updating I have been back several times for pho and vermicelli with pork. It is consistently good but I prefer the pho. I have been ordering juices there but I have some concerns. The juices are said to be fresh and with NO SUGAR ADDED. Their juice just tastes overly sweet to me. Too sweet. Finally got around to trying this place out via takeout. I am a sucker for Vietnamese starters - give me all of the rolls and no one will get hurt! I opted for the grilled pork spring rolls, the egg rolls, the pan fried pork dumplings, and the eye round steak pho. Hungover? Bad day? Hangray? Say no more, fam. So no lie, this is one of my go-to restaurants when I am feeling under the hangover, I mean weather. I order the Brisket and Meatball Pho AKA Nam Bo Vien which I believe is P6 on their menu. It always comes out pipin' hot and flavorful and my body thanks myself for devouring this yummy bowl of pho. As of late, I've been enjoying eating tofu! Their Fried Tofu AKA Dau Hu Chien (A9 on the menu) comes with this delectable lemongrass sauce and it is fire. (Fire as in delicious, not spice level. Trying to keep up with today's colloquialisms can be hard.) Having the sweet tooth that I have, I am not sure why I have not tried their cakes yet. Nice to have a pho place in the Heights. I have only had the pho (brisket, steak and meatballs), egg rolls, and bubble tea thus far. I found the broth for the pho to be inconsistent -- one time it was very salty (I had to add water) and another time it was was just right. Not sure if I just got two odd bowls, but the difference was notable to me. The egg rolls were nice and crispy, however, thy only served me with one piece of romaine lettuce to wrap it in and it didn't have the additional sides to add to the roll. The staff is always friendly. There is a good Asian beer selection and cafe du monde cans adorning some shelves -- not sure if they have pastries but they certainly have mile high cakes (the carrot cake is delish)! They also allow you to order pho with less noodles and more broth. Perfect for those who don't want all the carbs of the noodles. read more

** 3.5 Stars** Decent pho place nestled next to Christian's Tailgate on White Oak up in the Heights. I like how they do offer a few tables outside on their front patio for your dining pleasure. Pretty restaurant, lots of tables to choose from. Ordered the large P8 ($9) side of bone marrrow soup ($3) and the Soft shell crab dish without rice. Pho was good, decent boiling hot broth loaded with meat (wish they gave more cilantro) and my soft shell crab ($12) was sort of mushy and needed to be cooked a bit longer so ended up focusing on my pho and taking my crab home in hopes of salvaging the remaining pieces. Even though the crab was underwhelming, I did super enjoy all the grilled onions, jalopenos, green onions and peppers that came with the the dish ; P Large menu offering many dishes just besides pho. Wanted to try either the eggrolls or spring rolls but most reviews say how small they are compared to the prices so I passed. Oh, and if you like cake, they have like 5 different HUGE multi layer cakes! They had a strawberry, death by chocolate, chocolate truffle and a few more. Didn't try any but they at least looked good. Its proximity to downtown and distance from the more traditional Asian areas in Houston (Bellaire), results in a very charming restaurant that sticks to its Vietnamese roots while also providing additional creative dishes. My Overall Rating - 4 Stars (Atmosphere, Service, Food, Return) Atmosphere - Pho Binh is a great space, it's only negative is its size. There is a small outdoor patio in the front, general seating inside, and at the back of the restaurant is a self-service area stocked with drinks, sauces (nuoc mam, sriracha, hoisin, etc.). It's also surrounded by a whimsical mural that makes you feel like the owners put a lot of thought into the space (which they have). 1 Star. Service - It's counter service at Pho Binh. This was surprising, when we first entered the restaurant we waited to be seated. Finally someone spotted us, gave us menus, and told us to order at the counter. Normally I'm ok with this, but Vietnamese restaurants can have a large selection and is better suited as wait service. Other than this opinion, service was great. You order, get a number, when your food is ready it is brought out. The staff came by several times to check on us too so kudos for that. 1/2 Star. Food - The pho at Pho Binh is very good. The broth is nice and clear, not oily, and the rice noodles equate to a quality bowl that even the folks on Bellaire would give a thumbs up too. But by no means is Pho Binh defined by one dish. We ordered several other items, which were surprisingly good. One stand out dish was the bone marrow - but it was cooked with Vietnamese spices. It reminded me of a rich Bun Bo Hue. I was craving a Banh Mi, since I am a late eater this was the closest spot. The Lemongrass Beef Banh Mi was very good. I would recommend nixing the Mayonnaise and adding Hoisin Sauce or garlic butter. The Mayo just does not go with this type of sandwich, moving past this over used,adopted condiment, the spices used the flavor the meat were excellent. Without a doubt the best meatball Pho in Houston. I say that as someone who has eaten 1000's of bowls of Pho around town. I always get the steak and meatball (sometimes add tendon) and it's just soooo consistently well made. I have never gone in at any point and thought "they must have stretched this soup" which is a pretty common and understandable thing when there is a rush and the soup they made starts to dwindle. Service is super pleasant and fast. I can often get in and out in under 15 minutes. Pho is love. Pho is life. read more

Not sure if this is part of the original Pho Binh chains but I came in with high expectations and left disappointed. Our table shared steamed dumplings, springs rolls, summer rolls as appetizers. Nothing special about these items. The peanut sauce tasted watered down with no true kick of flavor. Springs rolls tasted freshly made but that's about it. I did enjoy the perfectly seasoned "thit nuong" vermicelli bowl but that was about it. Their Vietnamese coffee was solid and the jasmine milk tea was good as well. We noticed they just added sushi in the menu but as tempting as it sounded we strayed away knowing this place is Vietnamese food focused.
