I come to this place regularly with friends and I've never had a bad experience! There servers never bug you too much, the portions are MASSIVE for the price, and the food is always good. I've seen a few reviews from people saying its not "real Thai food".... for a small town in eastern Washington this place is pretty darn good. Visiting my son on Mom's weekend. He said that everyone says that Pikhun's has very good food. We arrived a little earlier 5:30pm because we knew it would be busy from all the visitors for the weekend. The place was small and cute. There were 10 patrons already seated and some were eating and others not yet. We sat down and they took our orders right away. We ordered deep fried tofu, phad see eew, laap gai, sticky rice and seafood tom yum, all 3 Stars. We waited till 7:15pm for our food. By now we were really hungry. We didn't have any other plans n we figured we've waited this long, how much longer can it be? Thank goodness their food made up for their service. The phad see eww was a little on the sweet side but the flavors were great . Everything was good, better or more authentic then most Thai restaurants I've eaten at. The spicy level here is not the average Thai food level ( at least not here in the US) it's pretty spicy. I can handle spicy, but this 3 stars taste more like 5 at most restaurants. I'm loving the spice but others beware. You may want to order 1-2 levels below what you normally order. Giving it a 1 star for food, but that is it. We arrived at 7:00 pm on a Friday night and was told the wait would only be 35 mins. Being a Friday, we expected a little wait so we were okay with it. 8:00 pm arrives and we finally get a seat and order our food within 5 mins, which was a dish of curry, a cashew chicken dish and pad kei mao (sorry for spelling). We finally got our food at 9:05 pm! We waited from 7pm-9:05 pm just to get food! The only reason we waited so long was the thought of "we waited this long, it can't be much longer..." The food was decent, however at that point I am sure ANYTHING would have tasted good. The most infuriating aspect of it all though, was the sight of about 15-20 tables worth of takeout food that was constantly being ordered and put ahead of our food. I could have ordered the same food for takeout at 7pm, picked it up at 7:30, brought it home to eat and repeated 3 more times for the same amount of time we were there for our one order. It was obvious the problem was very short staff (only two servers, although how slow the food was, that wasn't an issue) but they couldn't of had more than two people in the back making everything, including the takeout which was clearly their only focus. The last time I had to wait an hour an a half for food, the restaurant (a different one) was nice, apologetic, comped our food and welcomed us back to give them another shot. I don't go fishing for discounts, however the lack of customer service to reassure us that this never happens and they were sorry was apparent, which leads me to believe this is an ongoing occurrence. It was the customer service and horrific wait time that ruined this place for us, and for that we will never be back and I advise you to stay clear as well. read more

The best Thai food in town! Love their red and yellow curry, my favorite is avocado curry. But their other food is great too - like the orange chicken which contains real orange pieces. This is one of those hole-in-the wall places that may not look like much on the outside, but their food is fantastic. During this covid time they are takeout only, but when they are open for in house dining they often have a full house over the lunch hour. When they are busy, service may be slower, but the quality of the food is worth it. Would highly recommend them. read more

The food is amazing. The only reason I'd even consider taking a star away (I didn't) would be because takeout can be quite slow; often they ask me to pick my order up in 45 minutes. Seriously though, the Pad See Ew and the Panang Curry are some of the best Thai food I've ever eaten, which I didn't expect in Pullman after living in Seattle for so long. Would recommend to anyone. The ONLY Thai restaurant in Pullman. You might start to say "But what about Th---" Shut. Up. Just shut up. Phikun's is the only game in town. I moved here from the SF Bay Area and we had some AMAZING Thai places there, Phikun's is putting up a good fight. Their noodle dishes are very good, fresh and lots of flavor. Their curries are mostly good, I've tried most of them and only found the green curry a bit watery and heavy on bamboo shoots. Entrees are tasty, meats all seem fresh and lean. A word about spice levels. At other Thai restaurants all over the country, you have to struggle to get any real spice in the dish. The star levels don't get you very far. At one place, we had to keep adding "reallys" to "really really spicy" before the server went to check. She came back and said the chef agreed to make it that hot, but we had to promise that we could NOT send it back for being too spicy. Our food came out and it was perfect! At Phikun's, they rate from 1 to 4 star spice level. I've found that 3 stars is pretty good...pretty spicy...4 stars if you really want to feel it. Wonderfully spicy. I flew up from Oakland ca to check the food here and was not disappointed at all Very busy with lots of take out. Food was spot on Thai. Not to much heat and plenty of chicken in my curry. The coconut shrimp was above average and the avacado in the curry will be my next visit. The host was very very efficient handling numerous orders with a professional attitude. Great Thai food here in Pullman. I love going to Phikun's. I've been there countless times now, but if I were to guess I've been 24-30 times in the last year and a half. It's mine and my friends go to spot when it comes to eating out. They just do everything so well. The quality of the vegetables, metal is lean and thinly slices every time, and the sauces are the kind that you want a whole bowl of rice for just to soak them up to be enjoyed. The Thai tea is tasty and beer selection is also pretty good. I usually go for a curry, the Massaman and Panang are my favorite. All of the noodle dishes are very good, especially the noodle soups which are huge. I also highly recommend the cashew nut chicken. The lunch specials are a great deal and give you both a dish of your choice with white rice, but you also get a starter soup (tofu) and Pad Thai on the side. Dinner portions are enough for two people for sure! Just get a second bowl of rice so that that does't have to be shared. Spiciness levels at Phikun's are the real deal. It's not american style spicing for sure. The spice levels go from 0 (yes this is an option - 4 stars. I like spicy food, or at least I think I do. I a right in the middle person, 2 stars at Phikun's. I have had 3 stars a few times, and wow is that a some spicy Thai food! This had bleary of veggies including red and green bell peppers, onion, bamboo shoots, and broccoli. We also ordered a 2 star tofu pad Thai. Both dishes were great and has terrific flavor! Took a bit of time to get the food, but we had plenty of water while we waited. Both dishes were too spicy for our liking, but next time we will order a two and one star. Be aware that they don't mess around with the spice! So good though and the portion sizes are massive. We will definitely have leftovers for several days. You know the qualifier for this area is always, " It's ok or good, for Pullman" I'm not sure why this town of 34,000 people gets such a break from the bar of standards. Having said that, Phikun's food can be good if they can get it to you. On any given day they flat out turn away carry out business. If you don't want to do carry out just say so. In the last three months I've attempted carry out three times and been told the wait would be at least 45 minutes to an hour. Remember this is a small town but there are five Chinese restaurants and two Thai places sooo everyone else manages a brisk carry out business. O that note they get one star. Best Thai food in the area. Hands down. Rivals the quality of my favorite Thai place in Los Angeles. I've been a weekly regular for 3 years. My family's favorites are Kao Soy with chicken, Panang Beef, Avocado chicken, and Massaman curry. The Thai ice coffee is also great. And they don't use MSG. I'm very sensitive to it and have written off some other local Asian restaurants (especially Tokyo Soul) because of it. I only wish Phikuns had a Moscow location as well. read more

I have no idea how this place only has 3 1/2 stars, because they are amazing! This was our first visit so we tried some of our favorites. The chicken satay, 4 really big chicken breast halves with some really good curry and some pretty darn tasty peanut sauce. There was prawn and cream cheese in egg roll wrapper fried, they were good, the preparation was excellent. They weren't really our bag flavor profile wise, but I'd still recommend them to anyone who wants to try them. I had Tom Kha, maybe the best version of this soup I've ever had, really really really good. My wife had pad Thai and she was super satisfied with the entire dish. The portions of every dish were very big. WARNING UNTRAVELED AMERICAN: the level of spice is in Thai terms, so if you don't know how Thai hot you like your food, go one level down from your American norm, perhaps two levels down if you aren't a fan of mouth scorching foo. When you order a meat dish they provide a generous portion of well prepared meat as well. In my experience the service is great and timely about 80% of the time. We decided to try getting take out because it was so slow and customer service was non-existant for dine-in. They gave us an estimate of 35 minutes, and it ended up taking an hour and 10 minutes. That's DOUBLE their estimated time. They took payment as soon as we arrived, saying it would be out in 5 minutes because they were "slammed." This gave us no option to go elsewhere, so we had to sit there for 40 minutes and listen to the lady complain about how busy they were with only 3 tables full. The food here is awesome and has complex flavors. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for tasty Thai food in the Pullman area. The portions are enough to comfortably split between two people, which makes for a very reasonably-priced meal if you can agree on what to order and the spiciness to order it at. Both my husband and I have had a different entree every time and have loved all of them. However, note that they aren't kidding about their spicy scale (4 stars). I cleared out my sinuses extremely well and spent the entire meal red and crying because I over-estimated what I could handle. Go with 1 or 1.5 stars until you know you can handle more unless you want to repeat my experience. My husband can handle a 3 most of the time though, so maybe I'm just a weenie. The only reason I took away a star is because they need to get their staffing out front figured out. Half of the time that we've eaten there, they had wait staff who were experienced and it was a great time. The other half of the time, they had staff who weren't trained as wait staff who forgot about us and so it took 15-30 minutes to place an order in addition to a combined 30-45 minutes after we'd finished eating to get our check and pay for our food. Thus, if they don't take our orders promptly, we do not to order sodas because we wouldn't get any refills. read more

This restaurant offers pretty decent Thai dishes that are not as expensive as they could be. Upon entering Phikun's, guests are greeted to a friendly, quaint, and of course, Thailand-themed establishment. Interesting wall artwork and floor sculptures are prevalent, and they aren't too gaudy or off-putting. There are no offensive odors in the air, and all of the chairs and benches appear to be maintained well. Most tables are overlaid with a sheet of glass on top of an embroidered or printed tablecloth, and the windows are usually covered with curtains that allow a nice amount of light through. There are at least one-hundred or more different items of large variation to choose from on the menu, and they can all be treated with a spicy, peppery flavor addition on a scale from 'one star' to 'four stars'. One star is quite mild, while four stars may be too much for most people. I personally enjoy sampling the hottest foods when possible, and even for me, a four star dish definitely shouldn't be hurried-through. However, If you feel like adding more hotness to your meal, you can also request a sauce rack that offers a few different spicy choices. On average, most plates containing noodles are about $8; some are less, and others are more. In order to try meals containing more exotic items, such as duck, lamb, or catfish, you'll be paying into $15 range. A side of rice, soup, or similar can be added very inexpensively to any of your choices. In any price bracket, however, I have not encountered a meal that was portioned too unfairly. In fact, they are probably larger than what most diners will expect. Without adding extras to their main course, friends who I've introduced to Phikun's will often not be able to finish their meals because of the generous sizes. If this happens to you, don't worry. Styrofoam cups and cardboard box to-go containers are always offered in order to bring your leftovers home with you. In addition to standard beverages (soda, iced tea, and water), alcohol can be purchased along with your meal. A few choices are offered, including interesting ones such as bottled saki. Phikun's is a smaller establishment, and therefore, can be somewhat busy on a day when Washington State University students are celebrating holidays, games, and other occasions. However, even with a higher-than-normal amount of diners inside, I have not waited over thirty minutes for a meal to be served. If you fear a long wait, though, you can call ahead so you can take your meal home. The business is not located downtown, so parking is not a hassle to figure out (their technical parking lot is rather small, but overflowing into the next-door business parking is not an issue). Overall, I am always pleased with every visit to Phikun's. I am not an expert in truly authentic Thai cuisine, but whatever the origin of the food from here, it is always great, especially for the price. The front-end staff is extremely welcoming, and will most likely remember you if you visit again. Give them a try, you'll surely be satisfied by the experience. read more

I have lived in Pullman a little over three years now and have eaten here numerous times. At first, I really enjoyed the food, but felt the décor was wanting. However the past two times I have eaten here have been terrible. We have had to wait over 45 minutes for our food to arrive and it tasted like it had been prepared days earlier and then simply microwaved. They understaff, so between stress and a lack of people skills, the wait staff do not respond well or even check in appropriately. It is sad to see that this restaurant appears to know that there are limited alternatives for customers and seems to get away with providing such a terrible experience. read more
