Red Bento is a local small chain that serves a variety of Asian food, not just Japanese as the name suggests. It also serves sushi, which is not easy to find in this area. On this visit, I ordered the Nabeyaki Udon, which is one of my favorite dishes. I quite enjoyed it. The broth was good, the noodle delicious, and the soup packed with veggies. I also ordered the edamame. I always order edamame when I can because I love it so much and never have it outside of restaurants. This particular edamame was good--a little lacking on spice for my particular taste but still hit the spot and filled my craving for edamame. Accessibility: This restaurant is generally accessible. The seating is a mix between booths and tables. The chairs do not have arms. There are a couple of accessible parking spots, but they are limited. The lighting is decent here and should be okay. Noise is not really an issue. I have never experienced crowds though I never go during the busiest times. I cannot remember if they have accessible washrooms. My partner and I were sat first as they opened. Another group walked in a few minutes later. They were served drinks and orders first, thought it was a bit strange. Ordered spring roles and calamari tempura. The calamari looked processed, tasted a bit strange. I got a lunch sushi combo and I've never tasted sushi this terrible before. The spicy tuna roll just tasted spoiled, almost made me puke. Rosauers has better sushi. Our fried rice had hair in it, just the cherry on top. The reviews weren't wrong unfortunately. I read them and thought, "only a few there and maybe they were just picky, but no. Not great service, seemed annoyed that I dinned in and food was mediocre. Even fried rice had to be drenched in soy sauce to have any flavor. Sushi tasted more like refrigerated rice. They do have Chinese Japanese and Thai food on the menu though. Awful period. Surprisingly awful. How noodles can be made that awful is shocking. We ordered Pad ke mau, pad Thai x2 and yakisoba chicken through door dash. We received yakisoba chicken and 3 pad ke mau. Zero pad Thai. Our order was half wrong and what we did get was not even near good. We are not picky eaters btw. Door dasher was great. Long story short, only go here if you are starving and nothing else is open. You will be disappointed. I called about the wrong order and spoke to the manager. She was very nice and tried to make it right for us. We didn't want any more of their food and they were about to close, so she called door dash customer service for us and got us a refund for the food. Food was 1 star. The portions are really big and I was expecting red pod Thai with ketchup like you get in a mall store but the pod Thai was actually really flavorful came with a side of a lot of chopped peanuts and bean sprouts. The portions were very large! My husband got the Bull go gi and it wasn't bad- the portion again was really generous. Not sure if it's a good thing but at 6 o'clock during parents weekend they had some booths open for us to get seated right away. I got no dressing for my salad that consisted of 3 pieces of iceburg lettuce and two cherry tomatoes. The rice was dryer than I would've liked, but the teriyaki chicken itself was decent. Went here for a quick lunch. Not too many people were here when I came in, so I was greeted and sat quickly. I was promptly given a cup of miso soup, but not a spoon? Not sure if that's how they want u to eat it, but I had to sip it. Not so sure that was best idea, you really never know how clean that bowl was. I ordered the teriyaki lunch portion, which came w/rice n salad with a sweet vinegar dressing. The chicken was good, had a charbroiled taste which I liked. They needed to cut the chicken up better, otherwise it is impossible to eat with just the chopsticks. Food was just ok, nothing above and beyond. Might try back to try the sushi one day. read more

Ordered takeout on parent's weekend. Ready in 30 minutes. We got the food and realized that while both entrees were supposed to be tofu, one came with chicken. To get the meal replaced, we had to bring the entree back in, and wait 45-50 minutes. Decided to have them just cancel the order and get a refund as we were settled in from a long day and didn't feel like going back out. She went on to say that they wouldn't refund our $15 meal they got wrong unless we brought the renter back to the restaurant. Yeahhhhh, so this tasted pretty bland to me. The service was great, in fact the server there was super good at his job and he was pretty genuine. We got the bento box (it's in the name of the restaurant...) with chicken katsu and spicy salmon roll. First of all, the katsu was underwhelming by far. A fried low quality piece of meat next to raw edamame beans with a singular tomato on top to garnish. The rice wasn't all too bad, the texture was right but overall just bland. The salad.... oh the salad. I don't know if I should call it dressing... but it was somewhat sour and buttery? I know what they were going for, but the flavor did not match the consistency- very runny and watery. The spicy salmon roll really tasted like generic sushi drizzled with sriracha. I'm just saying, yes- this is a whitewashed basic Asian restaurant with low quality ingredients. But, in Pullman I think I need to just understand this as a general preface for most or all restaurants that serve any kind of ethnic foods. The server did give us an extra salad though, so really shout-out to that guy. I guess I am particularly picky about teriyaki menu because I do eat a lot of that type of food but I am glad there is at least SOMETHING asian in Pullman that people can enjoy to a certain extent. In terms of their food, it was just MEH. Their miso soup was literally saltwater and the szechuan beef though had a decent amount of spice, it was SUPER. SALTY. I felt obligated to order a coke to wash down all the salt i was getting. DEFINITELY had better places but I can't expect too much on asian cuisine in Eastern Washington to be fair. However, if I consider college student budget and the amount of food given, (rice + soup + salad+ large portion of entree) it isn't too terrible. It definitely is your typical college bang-for-your-buck type of place without having the best quality of taste or ingredients. I remember approving of the Moscow location, which was why I was willing to give this place a shot. I was fairly disappointed though with their service and even more so with the two items that were ordered. Sake don - the only possible up side is that it comes in a gigantic portion, but there was no salmon roe (unlike the authentic sake don), and the salmon pieces were absolutely tasteless. It comes with an awkward combo of veggies that were overcooked, and everything was drenched in so much sauce that even the rest of the bowl of rice was soggy. overall pretty disappointed for $10. Spicy bulgogi - this dish looked more promising. the first thing we notice though is that the meat is minced instead of sliced. I wonder why that is. The flavor was okay- it didn't wow me, but was much more edible than the sake don. The bulgogi also was sitting in a pool of its own juices, which seems to be the theme here. Service was subpar; we were ignored a number of times. I know they were busy but it doesn't give them an excuse to make eye contact, see that we needed something, and just walk by and not acknowledge us. I don't see myself coming back. EDIT: I came here again and got the BENTO BOX ! Why I did not think before to order a bento box when their name is red BENTO beats me?!! It's possibly the best and only thing I would order again on their menu because its actually pretty darn good for the price you pay, the portion sizes you get, the variety of foods. First time I went it was during their opening month and the food and service was horrible. I thought I'd give them a shot after a few years in business. It was as bad as I remember. I ordered a bento meal and the rice was on the hard side for Japanese rice, the miso soup was lukewarm without tofu or green onions, the tempura sauce was wrong, and there was no gyoza sauce. So I grew up in a Japanese household so I know authentic Japanese but also know no one should ever compare restaurants with home cooking. I am very forgiving since I am not cooking or cleaning up. But this was probably the worst Japanese food value (cost vs quality). You'd be better off going to Dissmores and getting their sushi and save yourself some money for the same quality. You do get a lot of Teriyaki chicken so you won't walk away hungry, just poorer and not satisfied. In summary, fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. read more

Have always been a fan of red bento. Will not be returning after this last experience. Proper protocol for shrimp is to devein them because they have FECAL MATTER in them. Upon ordering shrimp tempura from red bento I bit into a shrimp that had not been deveined. Called red bento to let them know that I had bit into the fecal matter of a shrimp and was told that the shrimp come that way and "That's how they come and that's how we serve it". Kindly reminded them that it's a health concern as it's fecal matter and was met with the response, "Not that we're aware of. That's how we serve it." The FDA will definitely be getting a call from me. Wasn't even offered an apology. read more
