    Chili Momos
    Chris P.

My friends and I had a mini 20 year reunion so we decided to dine in the Michelin Bib Gourmand Phayul. The place was somewhat hard to find because there were two locations. For drinks we got margaritas, cocktail, mango juice and butter tea. We ordered individual dishes so we ordered the following: Fried Lamb Ribs, Chilli Momos, Pan Fried Vegetable Momos, Steamed Chicken Momos, Lhasa Fried Noodles with Beef and Chicken. All of these dishes were filling and hit the spot. Portions were huge and took the rest home. I've had their momos before but this was my first time dining in. Great value. I definitely would return to try their soups and other dishes.

We visited here following the 13th annual momo crawl in Jackson Heights which this establishment did not participate in in 2025. Looking forTibetan cuisine on Yelp, this place came up. There are actually 2 locations on the same street, right across from each other. One location upstairs and the other on ground level. This is for the newer ground level spot. Small dining area, but 1 or 2 tables for groups available. Full bar and bottled bear selection. This are some tradional Tibetan dishes, and they do have momo, but dishes seem more a fusion of the Himalayan regions and and other fare. I really wanted to try the laphing appetizer, a spicy, cold noodle dish. I liked the texture of the noodles. The filling was super hot! I am not sure if chili oil was the only thing inside, but seemed like it was. We also had the stirred fried beef with radish which did have a nice flavor, although some of the meat slices were chewy, but the radish and onions were tender. The chicken lollipops, which were originally ordered dry, came to the table with sauce and were not dry. The owner seemed perturbed with us, asking us if we were sure we ordered it dry. The other main dish came out and the correct chicken dish took a good amount of time to arrive. It was very good. Service was somewhat cold and there were no checks ins. We did feel a little ignored and had to ask for drink refills and the check when someone walked by. We were told the check had to be paid at the bar if it wasn't cash (it was never brought to our table) but when going to pay, no one was at the bar. Little confusing. I did not look carefully enough at the check to see if the automatic 18% tip was charged as other reviews pointed out. I saw no signs or anything at all on the menu that indicatred this.We left a generous cash tip. Cozy atmosphere and the restroom was relatively clean. Not looking to return.

Oh heck yes. best momos in all of Queens. really good authentic flavors and incredible spices. i totally recommend coming here no frills cash only and very hospitable. top tier quality while very cheap affordable prices compared to the rest of the area. it's lowkey upstairs in a doorway on the second floor. there's another bigger one across the street but this is the first real one so go here 10/10 A+ i'll always come back here to fulfill my momo cravings

Located above a watch repair store, you'll find some of the best Tibetan momo in town. Phayul makes momo fresh in-house - we opted for the steamed beef momo topped off with chili oil and hot sauce during this visit. Each order takes 15 minutes and it's $9 for 8 momo. Freshly steamed, juicy and flavorful fillings, and quality dough. These are Tibetan momo, so there's an emphasis on meatier fillings. The kitchen's a little open concept, so you can see the momo (and other foods) being made. This spot is a go-to for Tibetan cuisine lovers looking for a cozy dining experience. They also have a second, more spacious location right across the street!

This is only my second time trying a Tibetan place in Jackson Heights. I got the pan fried beef momos and beef with laphing. The beef with laphing was a bit spicy, which I wasn't expecting, but it tasted really good. I usually can't really handle spice but it was a good level of spice and gave the dish some flavor. I loved the pan fried beef momos. Something to note is they have fried momos (deep fried) and pan fried momos. My friend got the deep fried momos and I got the pan fried. I tried both and ended up liking the pan fried more since it was very juicy inside. The servers were extremely kind and patiently explained items on the menu to us. They also leave a bottle of water at every table so we can refill our water glasses ourselves. The interior of the restaurant is so beautiful! It was so nicely decorated and the ceiling and walls were so extravagant.

My friend brought me to try this place and I was not disappointed. This place is a small mom and pop shop tucked away in a building. The space is pretty small and can get pretty busy. I tried the vegetable momos and the vegetable thenthuk and they were sooo good. They tasted even better with the chili oil--which was actually spicy. We got the vegetable momos steamed and they came out piping hot. They were also pretty large and super filling. The thenthuk was hot, refreshing and the hand pulled noodles were chewy. 10/10 experience, would love to try the other items on their menu.

Didn't know there were 2 locations and first saw the sign for the 2nd F one (we only saw the newer location across the street when we exited). Not a good first impression going upstairs, with the carpeted steps. Small place, no fuss, 5 tables. Can see the kitchen from dining area so the place got pretty warm. Was cooler at the table near the door. Food was good. Pan fried momos had crispy bottoms but soupy filling. Asked for a little spice in the spicy pork but tasted mild; tasty pieces of pork bellies though. Liked the egg fried rice - different rice grain, but too simple for the price. Mango lassi is not as thick consistency as I've had before. 3.5 stars. Will try the other location next time.

Their momos, lhasa, and butter tea were so tasty I want to come back here again! They were pretty busy when we entered, but the servers seated us right away. The interior of the restaurant is nice but I think it would be difficult to bring large parties here. I likes their beef momos more than the vegetable ones but both were really yummy. The lhasa was also so tasty. It is on the spicier side, but it went perfect with the butter tea. I definitely would come back here and try more of their dishes!

I've never had Tibetan food before and I loved this spot. My husband and I shared: - Fried Beef Momo - Vegetable Momo - Shogo Khasta - Lhasa Fried Noodle (Pork) - Regular Laphing I really enjoyed everything. I'm not sure if I could pick a favorite because it was all new and different. I will warn you that some of it was pretty spicy. The Laphing in particular really had me sweating. The menu was huge and I would love to come back and try more of it.

Phayul is one of my go-to spot, offering delightful comfort Tibetan food. Love most of their food options, especially their phingsha. While the laphing is just okay here, the mains truly stand out. Restaurant environment is nice with good service. Definitely recommend for Tibetan dishes

It was our first time trying tibetan food. Don't be scared by the old staircase that leads you to this small mom and pop shop. Their beef pan seared momos are juicy and flavorful (they also sell frozen ones to go). We also tried laphing for the first time. It tasted like jelly in a spicy sauce. Not bad but also not great in my opinion. We also tried the tsak sha la kor hot. It is basically beef with radish soup with tibetan herbs. It was light and somewhat refreshing but we would have loved if there was glass noodles in this and perhaps try the shoko phing sha next time. We would come back to try their other dishes and have the beef momos again. Service was okay, please be kind as she is only 1 person taking all the orders and refilling all the sauces when she is not taking or packing orders.

Tried the ground level Phayul today (across the street from the original). The food was just as good but the service left a bad taste in my mouth and the table was sticky. Not only did they automatically add a 18% gratuity (which I was going to leave), on the credit card receipt it was reclassified as a service charge with another line item for the tip. I find the practice a little shady and assume some unsuspecting customers fall for this and tip them twice. Not cool!

    Steamed chicken Momo

Chicken momos were filling and juicy. The price is a dollar extra for the same portion compared to the original Phayul located across the street, but that accounts for the extra space and ambiance.

Yessss! Momos of every flavor, cooking style and filling…read morehere, yum! Met up with friends here for dinner on a freezing winter weekend evening. The store was on the emptier side probably given the weather outside, with only about a third of their 30 or so seats taken. Seating is first come first serve, no formal waiter service, you order at the counter and they bring the food when it's ready. Staff were helpful in explaining what each item was, the protein options (a choice of chicken or beef for each), and level of spiciness (not too spicy though the accompanying sauces had a kick). We ordered-- - Kothey momo $9.99: selected the beef filling, this was a lightly pan-fried dumpling with a thin dough wrapper and savory minced beef filling. Served with a medium spicy dipping sauce. Good! - Thai soup momo $12.99: came in a curry broth with vegetables, my friend ordered the chicken momos and they came piping hot in the soup. Tasty and warm comfort food for a very cold evening. - Chili momo $11.99: deep fried and served with a tangy sweet and sour chili sauce, peppers and onions, my friend ordered the beef version. The spice level on the chili sauce was pretty mild. Yummy. - Samosa chaat momo $11.99: sprinkled with diced tomato, onion, cilantro doused with green chutney and sitting in a shallow bed of yogurt sauce, these deep fried momo were so flavorful. - Tandoori momo $11.99: I'm not sure if these were baked in a tandoori oven but they were sure seasoned with spices to taste like it , and delicious! Tender and juicy chicken filling. - Sandeko momo $11.99: another deep fried momo (this time I asked for beef) topped with a chunky sauce of soybeans, tomato and onion, filled with minced meat. This was another tasty plate! All the momos we ordered came with 8 pieces, while some of the basic flavors come with a couple more pieces. A single plate is a moderate amount of food for a meal though we ended up ordering six different types to share and try. Each stood out in a different way and I'd heartily recommend all. If there was just one critique it was since it was so cold that night (in the teens Fahrenheit) and no outside wind door that whenever a new customer or delivery pickup driver came in, a rush of freezing cold air also came in. It was quite chilly inside the restaurant for that reason and I had to eat with my jacket on. However that didn't detract from the tasty momos, and I'll certainly be back!

They provide complimentary popcorn, which is well seasoned and rich with ghee. I was seated in a chair that was very low to the ground. While outfitted with comfy cushions, I was not sure what the proper was to sit on this chair was and I was too embarrassed to ask. My best guess is that it's meant to be a criss cross applesauce type situation, but I had on wet snow boots and didn't particularly want to do that. This isn't a complaint, but just something to consider for anyone with mobility concerns who might be considering visiting. There are some normal style chairs in the front of the restaurant that I'm sure I would have been switched to had I requested as such. Anyway, onto the food. I ordered the "Lahana Ko Faarzi Bhoj" which arrived on a large round platter with a variety of different dishes. I am very new to this type of food, and most of it was completely unfamiliar to me, which was very exciting. The grain at the center of this platter is "chiura," a rice product which has been pounded flat and dried. It has a light and crunchy texture, and pairs well with the thinner, wet curries it was served with as it really soaks up the liquid and expands in size. I've never had this before and it was very interesting to try. The platter comes with two bowls of warm curry, one with black eyed peas and maybe some potato and the other was darker with meat which I preferred. Both were rich and deep in flavor, but the darker one (pictured on the right) was so savory and well balanced- definitely my favorite part of the meal. They both have some heat to them, the kind that builds at the back of the palette throughout the meal, but none of this food was excessively spicy. The main plate has a ring of various cold dishes around the edge, all of which were unfamiliar to me so I can't necessarily identify them. My favorites were the pieces of well seasoned dark meat chicken and the deep fried egg in the center, but it also included some pickled elements, some ground meat and a small skewer, which I found to be quite tough. I really enjoyed trying new, interesting food in such a beautiful space. The servers were kind and there are many other items on the menu that I'm interested to try. I feel lucky to have this place nearby.
