Pani Puri (Missing 3)

Came here with a couple of friends on a cool rainy night and we really appreciated finding a comfortable space to enjoy a relaxing meal - Cafe Shangrila is certainly living up to its name. The space isn't large, but it seems thoughtfully designed with a very peaceful aesthetic and relaxing low key music in the background. There is a large bench along one wall that allows for different configurations. I wouldn't say it is a ideal for groups, but we came in to find a family of about 10 sharing a meal. I appreciate the small book menu instead of everything being on one overwhelming page - I feel it spaces the offerings and allows you to focus on the individual dishes to make your choice. We started with pani puri, which comes with I believe was Teekha Pani, spicy green water you pour into these one bite apps. This is vegan. They were very tasty and I enjoyed their version. We got the Chicken Chilly (Chillies) and I enjoyed this very much. The menu states it is Chinese heritage and I can see that - It reminded me of a more refined and upscale General Tso's chicken. It had a creamy nuttiness underneath the bold chili spice and not too sweet. We got the Chive Momo, pan fried and the Beef Momos Johl style and I enjoyed them both. I liked the tangy dipping sauce for the Chive ones and if we were sharing I would have crushed that whole bowl of tasty johl with the beef ones. They aren't largest, oversized ones some other places have, but they are tasty and satisfying nonetheless. A solid mouth filling bite. The Shangrila Set was very good - I think it was Paratha we settled on for this dish and it all combined so well - putting a base of eggs topped with the chickpea gravy. I thought this would make for a solid breakfast while I was eating it. Next time I want to check out the Keema noodle dish that I saw a couple enjoying - it looked delicious. I had a Marsala tea, but they have a nice cafe selection of drinks to enjoy with your meal. All and all this is a fantastic cafe with great service and food and such a calming vibe. The parking and train access is pretty abundant so all around a spot worth checking out.

Welcome to Sunnyside Cafe Shangrila! Learned about this restaurant during the Taste of Sunnyside, which they participated in before they opened that Wednesday (if I recall). This is a small restaurant though they don't rush you. We were a party of 3 and was wondering if we ordered too little or just enough food. The employee helped us with his recommendation: - beef pan-fried mo:mo: (you can choose from chicken/beef and the style you liked cooked) - 8 mo:mo: - chicken sha baklep - 3 cut in half = 6 - chicken keema noodles (you can request to have chili oil on the side, which we did. This dish has a bit of a kick though it's edible). There are non-alcoholic drinks and mocktails. We ordered - Strawberry Matcha Latte - Lavender Lemo (which has carbonation) - Raspberry Mojito Limited menu though great food.

I heard of this place before they opened up from Sunnyside taste (aka Sunnyside's food crawl). I tried their momos at the event. It is right next to a construction site so it is hard to spot unless you're nearby. Also, just note that they open at 7am and close at 8pm everyday as they are a café. They don't serve alcohol and they encourage working from here. There is a restroom downstairs that is open to the public. It's a small cafe, but it does its purpose. Foodwise, I enjoyed the beef momos (six pieces) which you can get a different style but our table asked for it pan fried. Ordered the chicken sha baklep (three pieces) which looks like empanadas. Also got non alcoholic drinks - the strawberry matcha latte, lavender lemo and raspberry mojito (this is what I ordered and it was yummy) most of the drinks that they served had no caffeine. Overall, I enjoyed the food and the service was good but could be better.

Cute little cafe on Queens Blvd if you're looking for somewhere to sit or just want to grab a drink to go. There's not as many tables inside so something to check for if you have a bigger party. They have super cute decor and everything is very south East Asian aesthetic. Their drinks are great and the prices are pretty on par with other big coffee chains, so something to keep in mind. The staff is friendly and nice and patient when putting in your order.

I ordered chicken momo, beef momo and keema noodle. It was more than enough for two people. I loved chicken momo was juicy ! Very friendly and nice people. They customized spicy level because my friend can't eat any spicy food because health issue. Definitely I will try more different dish next time ! I wish there are bread ( puri / roti stuff ) side order on menu.

Loved dinner at Shangrila. It's family owned so the service was personalized and special. The beef mo mo's were super satisfying and the chicken keema noodles and chicken sekuwa with rice were standout dishes as well. The soundtrack in the restaurant was also great. Can't wait to get back for seconds and to leave room for dessert which looked wonderful.

Chatpate

The chatpate was so good and spicy just how i like it. The jhol beef momo was very good and jhol was flavorful. The cashier Prem was very nice and welcoming.

In short, amazing…read more Service was great, friendly, and very cognizant of allergies. - Ghee Whiz - smoked cocktail, really good, flavorful, smooth, unique - Paneer - on the one hand, $20+ for two pieces of paneer seems crazy but on the other hand that paneer was so melt-in-your-mouth texture maybe it's worth getting again, but probably not - Beef pepper fry - amazing, my favorite dish we got. Definitely a bit on the spicier side but incredible flavor, beef all cooked well, great presentation on the skillet, so worth it. - Makai Lamb - the lamb itself was incredible; imagine a giant lamb bone with meat falling off into a thin soup-like sauce. The sauce was delicate in flavor, allowing the lamb to really shine and it was delicious. So filling too, a ton of food. Only weird thing, the two chunks of corn cobs felt out of place. Will definitely return, delicious and best done with more people to try more dishes.

And the ambiance is at the corner area of Essex Street Market tucked away with its own convenient toilet. The crab with garlic was served with Indian rice. The Tika was perfectly done and their Indian bread which very thin went with it and the eggplant dishes that they cooked Jndian style - must also order. We had the goat dish which was also delicious. They gave us green chutney and fresh sliced red onion as well So overall it was a positive experience.
