Taco Mahal was a must-try on a recent trip to NY, and I wasn't disappointed. I tried the chicken tikka masala naan taco and first of all, the amount of food you get is pretty generous. It's definitely larger than the average taco. The tikka masala flavor was amazing - bold and zesty and so flavorful! The naan was also soft and fresh. My partner got the cheese naan with melted cheese inside, and I was so jealous! There's limited seating inside the restaurant but eating the taco fresh and hot is a must. I'll be adding this spot to my recommendations for NY visits. read more

When I saw a naan taco on TikTok... I had to try it! We made a special trip out JUST for this taco! The interior is so bright and fun - I loved the neon lights and beautiful motifs on the wall. My only complaint was that there wasn't a place to go to the bathroom. Our naan taco was a little pricey ($20) but when in NYC, right? Our taco came out really fast and it was SO yummy. What a fun, unique twist on Indian food. Who would've thought that Indian and Mexican collaboration would have worked so well! I opted for the chicken tikka masala taco on stuffed cheese, naan bread. The chicken masala was delicious and very fragrant and flavorful. Adding guacamole on top was the icing on the cake; it added a special richness to the overall meal. First of all, this is NOT a "fusion" restaurant... This is literally Indian food made in the form of a taco, making it much easier to eat curry versus the traditional way. We popped in around 8:15pm on a Saturday night and it was apparently prime time for them at that hour! This place is VERY small, so it was very crowded. They only have about 5 tables (most only seat 2 people each) and 5-6 additional seats at the window "bar" tabletop. Also, they didn't set up the inside very well so the line to order ends up blocking the door if too many people are there. And due to the crowd, it was VERY LOUD inside. The sound seemed to bounce around in the room, which was incredibly overstimulating. I ended up staying outside to eat after I ordered due to this. Okay, now that we've discussed the ambiance, let's talk about the food! I ordered the Paneer Tikka on a Cheesy Garlic Naan ($1.50 up charge for the garlic + cheese on the naan, $0.50 up charge for just garlic and $1 up charge for just cheese). It was absolutely delicious! Adding the garlic and cheese to the naan added an extra burst of flavor to the paneer tikka curry that was the filling. This was such an easy and less messy way to eat one of my all time favorite curries!! I was with a group of people and we ordered some Masala Fries to share - these were also very tasty. The fries themselves were SUPER crispy, which I loved. However, I was a bit surprised that they weren't covered in a masala seasoning... Instead, they had some cheese crumbles and chopped onions on top. It was still delicious, just not at all what I had expected since the name of the dish had the word "masala" in it. Also, I want to make note that I ate ONE naan "taco" and a handful of fries and was completely full. Unless you're looking to take home leftovers, I'd say just order one naan taco to start - they are very filling! However, if you choose to order a Roti Taco instead, you might need a second one. Roti is a less-fluffy Indian bread (typically eaten with curry like naan), so it's usually less filling than naan. If you like Indian food, you should DEFINITELY give this place a try!! And if you sometimes get overstimulated (like me), you might want to consider ordering take out if it's busy when you arrive. read more

A indian-taco fusion, never thought I'd see the day, but what a mix. I must say, their food is delicious. I got their butter chicken taco with naan, and it was really good. The only thing is that, it was hard to eat keeping it all together. Maybe lessen the portion of the butter chicken in the naan so it's sufficient to eat as a whole, rather than ripping off the ends of the naan and eating it with the butter chicken. Wow! I got the lamb curry and chicken tikka masala cheesy naan tacos and wow it was incredibly delicious. The naan tacos are big, so one would have been enough but they are so tasty, especially the chicken tikka masala. This place is different so I get the number of 5 star ratings, but as an Indian, I found it well and truly underwhelming. Went there early on a weekday and we were the only ones there so grabbed a table. Just fyi, it is a place that is better suited for pick up. Very small and basic. We ordered one each of the three veggie options they had in a roti taco - palak paneer, paneer tikka and Chickpea (chole). The paneer tikka roti taco was totally lacking in flavor while the chickpea and the palak paneer were better. They have it at a mild spice level to cater to everyone, but I would have appreciated the ability to adjust the spice level. The guy at the counter told me I would need to buy a sauce on the side if I wanted it with a more kick. I didn't do that to see how it tastes out of the box. Also, the taco is just the gravy and paneer on top of the roti base with some arugula leaves and a tasteless slaw. If you're putting something on a bite sized food item, it better be flavorful, or atleast seasoned. The leaves and slaw were a big let down. I could think of a few ways to elevate this good concept they have. For now, it is just not for me. We left to have actual lunch elsewhere. read more

We got this place on takeout via DoorDash. Food was amazing!!! We got the Everything Naan which was incredible and so inventive, the Roti Tacos which were considerably sized (think 1.5X size of a street taco), and the Chicken Tikka Masala plate which was simply delicious. I still love Taco Mahal and recommend people come here, but because it's so close to my apartment I hold it to a different standard. They recently increased prices by 10% across the board, so recently that the menus in the restaurant haven't been updated. This means that the big biryani for like $19 is now like $22. Definitely not a fun barrier to break. This afternoon, though the restaurant was slammed, the biryani was constructed more sloppily with (perhaps) some new ingredients and less coloration throughout, closer to Masala Times', which is mediocre. The flavor was still there and the large shrimp were plentiful, but worth mentioning. For those looking for a good mix of carbs and protein, Kebab Express is now the only serviceable budget option in the neighborhood that I'm aware of. read more
