The food was fresh, well-spiced, and served piping hot. We ordered all vegetarian--chilli momos, potato with black-eyed peas, bamboo shoot curry, and dal with garlic naan and rice. Everything was flavorful and satisfying. For a bit of nostalgia, we ordered Kingfisher beer, but realized the version here in the U.S. tastes quite different from what you get in India--not quite the same experience. With the number of Indian restaurants on Lexington around 27th Street, it's not likely we'll return to "Taste From Everest." Our server was so pleasant and efficient -- he appeared to be the only person working the dining room -- I hate to write anything less than positive. But I really didn't enjoy my meal. My daughter, who's eaten at various restaurants on the strip, was also underwhelmed. We started off with steamed chicken momo (dumplings.) Served with two spicy dipping sauces, we were off to a good start. But then ... -- Chicken tikka, my frequent choice, was over-cooked, under-spiced and dry. When prepared properly the chicken is succulent and flavorful. I appreciated the vegetables from my platter which I mixed with rice, but other than that, a big NO. -- S ordered chicken thali: lentils, rice, mustard spinach, potatoes, salad, achar (a condiment of fermented fruits and vegetables), papadum and kheer (rice pudding.) We both have had better. Unlike family-run Indian restaurants I frequented on E. 6th Street -- none of which remain -- midtown restaurants are a bit more formal often requiring reservations. With no availability at a neighboring restaurant, Taste from Everest could accommodate us when we popped in. I'd been wanting to check out more spots in "curry hill" so I stopped by taste from everest which was such a hidden gem. The flavors in everything were spectacular and service was great. My only complaint is that our table was quite close to the door so we had a cold breeze blowing in every once in a while. Otherwise, would definitely come back for more of the menu. read more

Being a foodie, I like tasting different cuisines.. if your office is next to Lexington Avenue I'm sure you will have a lot of options to taste.. of course I've tried many indo-Pakistani Bangladeshi restaurants here, but never tasted Nepalese food .. I was walking by and saw taste from Everest restaurant and wanted to give it a shot... nice location right in the heart of Lexington Avenue.. interior was good lots of tables to sit and eat.. Not much of crowd when I went on a weekday . Service was quick. They had a lot of options, but I chose vegetarian thali. It was about 20$ with tax . It was surely a different cuisine, but to be frank it was too bland and not my style... Italian also does not have a Puri or chapati ... they did give a bowl of rice, Dhaal, potato subzi , pappas and sweet . I don't like wasting food and almost completed the whole thali. All all the food had less salt and less flavor... I don't know maybe that's the authentic Nepali style. overall a decent experience... wanted to give three stars, but gave it a 4 star . read more

You guys, this is one of the greatest meals of my life, no joke. Went here in person the other day after ordering delivery a couple years ago and was completely floored. Their Chicken Jhol Momo is a top 5 dish of my life! The warm and comforting broth, slight kick, the sweetness... I cannot stop thinking about it. My friend with me ordered it again the next day. Their Butter Chicken is also the best I've had, so creamy and flavorful. Loved their Aloo Gobi and Garlic Naan. I cannot wait to come back and get their Samosa Chaat again and desserts. Despite spending much of my time in this area, I often overlook a lot of the culinary gems along Lexington Ave. A little winter cold prompted me to seek out some chicken soup, and Taste of Everest's Nepalese version did just the trick. I was instinctively drawn to their menu of spicy soups and momos, which I knew would soothe me back to health. The thukpa's spice and ginger tinged broth, vegetables, chicken, and noodles proved to be the antidote I needed. Himalayan food is generally less salty and milder than I like, but on this day all I needed was something hot (temperature-wise) and fiery (spice-wise) to clear my congestion, and I could feel the tightness in my chest loosen its grip. The momos, which are the restaurant's signature doughy dumplings, had the right dumpling skin texture, but I'm not sure I liked the chicken interior too much. Perhaps the quality of the meat or the strong onion-y flavor put me off, but nothing a dousing of hot sauce couldn't obscure. The space is modest, and likely more popular as a takeout/delivery spot or a place for a quick bite. But sometimes the most satisfying eateries come wrapped in the most humblest packaging. read more

I've only eaten Nepalese food once before, but I know folks will cringe reading this.. .it's similar to Indian food so I could navigate my way around the menu. I had samosa chat, lamb curry, raita and garlic naan. Everything was delicious and came out freshly made from the kitchen. The folks around me (a mix of various nationalities) were complimenting the food so think everyone had yummy food. Service was good, too. Wow there are so many similar restaurants on this particular block, but this one stands out. Lamb Biryani ($17) - the lamb was so tender and the biryani was incredibly flavorful. Aloo paratha ($6) - filling, stuffed with potato I think. This was delicious dipped in the tikka masala. Came with 4 pieces. Chicken tikka masala ($16) - This actually might've been the best chicken tikka masala I've had in nyc. It's on the sweeter side, which I like. The portion was more than enough and the chicken was also tender. Came with rice. Soup momos - these were chicken momos in soup. Thought this was skippable, since it's quite literally dumplings in soup but they did taste good (just nothing noteworthy). Soup was light and had a bit of a sour kick. Inside was a pretty spacious, clean space with some nice decors. The reason we went in was because this woman came out of the restaurant when I was reading the menu and said "why are you even thinking, go in and get the butter chicken curry." So I did. This smoked butter chicken curry was something else. There was some added dimension to the dish and I felt lighter and happy as I ate it. Mango chutney changed the taste profile of the curry to another whole world and I love love loved it. My partner said it's like what apple sauce is to their cuisine. OH and the mango lassi was one of the bests I've ever had. As great as the curry was I feel like some things were not as insanely good. I'd def go back to get the curry tho. The prices here were quite affordable for manhattan & the area, with each dish being about 12.99-15.99. We got all vegetarian dishes. My favorite was the garlic naan to be honest, with the samosas and veg momo. It was nice and casual which was very nice to not feel rushed eating, and the food came out in 15 minutes. Taste from Everest has some solid food depending on what you get. Don't get me wrong- everything is good but some items are a lot better than the others. My friend and I got the jhol chicken momos, Himalayan lamb pot, and garlic naan. The food did take unusually long but the employees are all very nice so it's not a problem in my book. The Himalayan lamb pot with garlic naan was good but both my friend and I are Desi and we both thought it was nothing out of the ordinary. The jhol chicken momos, however, were absolutely fantastic. We really enjoyed checking out this Himalayan/Nepalese spot located on the outskirts of Curry Hill. Along with the familiar momos, there are a lot of menu items here reminiscent of Indian dishes, but with a Nepalese twist. We ordered: Chicken momos: I actually ordered the chicken jhol momo but we were given the regular ones... but all good. The momos were juicy and the two ahcars - one a dark red spicy sauce that really bright, sharp notes of red peppers and the other a more savory tomato sauce - were delicious. Garlic naan: great. A little bit of a crunchier, crispier, flatter version of naan than some more fluffy, pillowy varieties. Himalayan smoked butter chicken: Much like the Indian version, but the sauce was indeed richer and more savory-- hence the smoked preparation, I suppose. The sauce is also a bit sweet. Served with rice and big chunks of tender chicken. I thought this was very good. Sherpa goat curry: my dining companion ordered this and said it was a little gamey. I just tried a little bit of the sauce, which I thought was flavorful. Mango lassi: not bad at all but not my favorite; I prefer a slightly tangier version. The dining room is on the small-medium side, but on most nights you probably wouldn't have to make a reservation. There were about 3 other tables occupied while we were there but still some open tables. read more

Really a hole in the wall and unknown to the tourists. me and my 2 friends went hard and ordered 6 dishes: 1) Chicken Chowmein - At first I thought it was just regular chowmein. But surprisingly good. 2) Chicken Chili - WOW SO SPICY. Definitely try. 3) Chicken Momo - These are basically like dumplings (probably a skip) 4) 2x Garlic Naan - Used this to dip in the Massu. 5) Kukhura Ko Massu - some of the softest chicken I ate 6) Bhindi Fry (Okra). Came all the way from Brooklyn and Queens to try this spot for a late dinner. Arrived at 10:30pm, they said they close at midnight but refused to seat us. Said they were full for the night. The restaurant visibly had empty tables - most of the others were taken up by a large party of older Nepali/Desi customers who seemed to have finished most of their food and were relaxing, chatting and laughing. If you're going to close your restaurant over an hour before stated closing time for a private or family & friends event type of deal, then lock the doors, draw the blinds, and put up a sign, don't let prospective customers walk in only to be turned away at a completely reasonable times. read more
