The food and drinks were great! The server was excellent. The vibes were fun. Honestly this was a peak Thai food experience and I would make this my go to spot for Thai in Ballard.

Gai Phad King Stir-Fry
Tiffany O.

The restaurant space is nicer than most other Thai restaurants I've been to. I like the booth seating. Another Thai restaurant with the same owner is next door, but we chose to eat at Pestle Rock. Secret Savory is also a few businesses down and has comparable prices - each entree is basically $20+. You won't find the usual curry or noodle dishes here. I tried the gai yaang (half order) because I wanted to fill up on protein, but not have leftovers. It came with a decent amount of chicken, though there's bones throughout. The Gai Phad King Stir-Fry was too liquid-y - not my kind of dish, even though it seemed similar to some Chinese dishes I've had before. The celery was on the crispier side. The ginger was noticeable in it, so that was good. Overall, the dish didn't seem to be worth the cost for the size unless wood ear mushrooms are overly pricey or something. I don't think Chinese restaurants charge this much for dishes with similar ingredients and portions.

Guay Tiow Tom Yum

Their Guay Tiow Tom Yum is the best soup in all of Seattle, but everything on their menu is fantastic! They have an extremely friendly staff, and really adorable atmosphere too! I can't recommend this place enough!

Small portion!! Look at the size of the spoon in comparison to the tiny amount of food.

First visit here in Ballard. Decided to try this place based on reviews. Atmosphere: quiet, nicely decorated with the day's specials on a chalkboard Space: small booths, small tables for two, but they do have a space for a party of 6-8 people around the corner. Food: ahhhh...this is where my disappointment started. Very small portions for high prices. I've included a picture of a chicken dish I ordered. They give about 2 oz of chicken meat and a lot of celery for this dish. $20!! Although, it was tasty and a bit peppery, the portion size was more like a small appetizer. (Yes, I left hungry) Service: the lady working that day took another party's order who came in after us. I think she decided to take our order after I gave her a "look". I won't be returning. I've never had such small portions at that price point.

Mee Ka Ti Noodle

The owner is SUPER sweet and he kept checking in on us and made great recommendations. It felt very personal and I really enjoyed my experience. The food was absolutely delicious! I believe we got the Mee Ka Ti Noodles and Kao Soi Noodles. If you like Pad Thai, I would recommend the Mee Ka Ti Noodles. I personally thought it was so so good. The ambiance of the restaurant is very nice and this is my go-to place for Thai food! It is very unique and a fusion of cuisines. One of my favorites restaurants near Seattle!

Not your typical Thai restaurant!! Very unique isan style place in Ballard neighborhood. The place has a very laidback, low key vibe. My friend and I walked in on a Saturday night for dinner and were able to get a table right away. I ordered Gai Phad King which was a soupy stir fry with chicken, mushroom and it also came with rice. It was more like a stew - very comforting with a solid kick of ginger. Overall I liked it and I will come back to try more dishes from the menu. One thing to note: But it's not very vegetarian friendly. The menu is pretty limited if you're looking for meatless options but the service is great and staff is extremely sweet!

This is one of the most interesting Thai restaurants I've ever been to. I felt the need to try every special and yet the regular menu also looked stellar we picked a few dishes and were full to the brim. We will be back when we visit Ballard again.

Pestle rock is not your typical Thai restaurant, so don't expect pad Thai or red curry here! They do isan Thai cuisine so it's totally unique from other places around. I couldn't find an option to make a reservation on their website so we decided to try walk-in on a Saturday. We were seated immediately, they were around 75% full at that time. I noticed their menu has limited vegetarian options, I ordered the Guay tom yum. It was warm, comforting and delicious. The portion was huge and I had leftovers for next day. The dishes are reasonably priced and most of their dishes are priced between 20-25$.

Papaya salad. Very zesty

Compared to other Thai restaurants, this one was definitely different. Most Thai restaurants you can choose from what kind of protein you want with your dish and your spice level. This one you couldn't. Also the names of each dish was in Thai, so you had to read the English description for everything. The service was fine, we were seated fast, no wait and they answered any questions we had. The place was clean and well decorated, a little dark but it was still lit enough to see everything. Parking can be a little difficult and you might have to walk a few blocks to get to the restaurant. It's good for what they gave us, but nothing I would crave or anything memorable. The servings were also pretty small for the prices. If you're in the area, good place to go for some authentic Thai food but I wouldn't drive out of my way again.

Delicious and authentic Thai food! Loved trying Northern Thailand dishes and our favorites were the peek gai tod (chicken wings) and mee ka ti (thin rice noodles). The service was excellent, and the food took about 10 minutes to come. I love the atmosphere and the authenticity to every dish. If you love Thai food and trying new things, I highly recommend!

I checked out this restaurant with my family and we all loved the food here. The owner Pete explained that it was an Isan Thai Cuisine which is the Northeastern region of Thailand, so they don't serve the typical Thai dishes like Pad Thai or Pad See Ew. He also mentioned how all the dishes were his Mother's recipes and that she was the main chef/cook. All the dishes we tried were so good! If you love spicy food, then this is the place to be. Service was top notch because everyone was so friendly, but the food is definitely a must-try!

Ba Mee Hang Mutoon
Miko B.

Got to try the Ba Mee Hang Mutoon and the Guay Tiow Ta Krai, and both were superb! The freshness of the ingredients really came through and the spice level was perfect.

What a homey, delicious, and authentic tasty IG Thai spot we have here in Ballard. Pete the owner has to be the most dedicated, friendly, and loving owner I've met. The place is underwhelming from the outside but when you step inside you and transported to a grandmothers home, a true Thai experience. The menu is large with lots of things you can't get elsewhere. The ingredients are fresh, and the spices are undeniably great! I highly recommend this spot and would come back!

Kao Soi may favorite go too!

The staff were all so welcoming and friendly, and even though their kitchen was backed up with orders, they did their best to serve us quickly and the food was still top notch. The marine-like atmosphere was also fun and made dinner really casual and enjoyable. We got some of the best sellers, the bo la lot, the ma la beef cheek noodles, and the Hokkien wok noodles, and they were all a hit. I enjoyed the different Asian-fusion dishes they had from different cultures as well as their wide selection of drinks. The dishes were all very rich and flavorful, and you get a good amount to share for the price. It was the perfect place to eat while chatting and catching up with a friend. As mentioned in other reviews, we also experienced a unique and relaxed atmosphere. They had some good local draft options to get started - which is good. We ordered the Bo La Lot Grilled Beed in Betel Leaf for an appetizer and we loved the combination of ingredients and taste. Our brides ordered the Chaca La Vong Wok Seared Tumeric Rockfish and they both enjoyed it. My son ordered the Pad Kee Mao and I went with the Reckless Fried Rice and we both devoured them! Our waitress (her name wasn't on the receipt) was outstanding....super friendly and patient with all of our questions regarding the menu.

I was expecting small plates like tapas, but the portion sizes were all generous. Everything was tasty and had a home cooked vibe. My favorite dishes were the JaJang Beef Pancake Roll and the Cilantro Spicy Beef. Both of them used the same braised beef shank which is one of my favorite cuts of beef. It's super meaty and flavorful with lots of tendon and collagen giving it a tender melt in the mouth quality. The beef roll had fresh lettuce and green onions all wrapped in a flakey crispy scallion pancake. The cilantro spicy beef was a cold salad with tons of fresh cilantro and aromatic chili oil. While I loved the beef dishes, some of the other stuff was good but I wouldn't order them again. I think this place is known for Peking Duck, but it wasn't my favorite. The fat on the skin wasn't rendered enough and I wish it were crispier. The meat was also a little tough. Also, a lot of the food was labeled spicy but I didn't think anything was spicy, not even a little. Overall, for the price, I still think this is a good place to try.

So you go in the corner of the restaurant and do your best to walk yourself through the menu. Everything costs an additional fee here. You want an egg? $2. Pork? $9. So for $14 you can get a bowl of miso broth with noodles, negi and raw onion or you can shill out an almost entire entrees worth of additional toppings to make yourself an actual bowl of ramen. There were probably 7 servers for a 500sqf dining room but all they do is bus you at the end and drop a check. It must be the easiest serving gig in Seattle. Broth itself was decent. The noodles lacked any character or flavor. My egg was cooked perfectly but was cold as ice. If you're going to charge me $2 for a single poached egg please use a sous vide or hot water bath to hold them at temperature. No designated parking means you're looking at another $5-$6 to park on the street. Simply not worth it for what you get.

We got the preserved meat clay pot rice, salt and pepper fried fish filet, and beef brisket and wonton noodle soup. The clay pot rice was okay - the pricing is fair but the execution could be a bit better. I felt like the rice was a bit lacking in flavor, and they only have the standard soy sauce, not the ones in a sauce tray that is usually a bit sweeter. The salt and pepper fried fish filet was good - definitely recommend that for the taste and value. The noodle soup was also good - the wontons were okay but I loved the beef brisket. Noodles seem to be handmade as the texture is a bit uneven, but I appreciate these types of noodles more. This place is a true gem, serving satisfying, delicious food in a relaxed atmosphere at an affordable price. The restaurant looks small from the front, but space is used efficiently and they manage to fit quite a bit of seating into not that large of a dining room. Tables are mostly four tops, quite spacious at that, and surrounded by sturdy wooden chairs. I came for dinner on a Friday evening and there were a few other tables at any given time. Service was quick and our water never ran empty. We had the wontons in hot oil, topped with peanuts, I had the beef chow fun, and my dinner buddy had the pork with hot sauce noodles. The wontons are very very good, stuffed with flavorful pork and swimming in a sauce that sits in that perfect spot at the intersection of hot and sour. The peanuts and scallions add a delightful crunch. Their beef chow fun satisfies every bit of childhood nostalgia I have for this dish, with lots of wok hei, bouncy noodles, and the most tender of beef. I think my favorite beef chow fun in the city still lives at A+ Hong Kong Kitchen, but this is a close second. The portion here is also huge. I am a human vacuum and I actually brought leftovers home, which is rare for me. The pork with hot sauce noodles is seemingly a fusion of zha jiang mian and dan dan noodles. My friend really enjoyed it and actually finished the whole thing, which is saying something given that she doesn't usually eat that much. There are so many other items on the menu that I'm eager to try, so I will definitely be back.
