Delicious pastrami sandwich! The meat is so flavorful. Some of the pieces are tad crispy so you get that perfect salty crunch in some bites. A sandwich is just a sandwich at most places, but somehow Perry's Joint is able to put together the ingredients in a way that just tastes better than any traditional sandwich. To be honest, I don't think they do anything "special" or different from other sandwich places, but the ingredients they use are always so fresh and everything is in perfect ratio of each other. There's a secret that they have that other sandwich places don't, but I just can't put my finger on it! My go-to's are the Hip Bird or Chicken Mingus and I often get a Perry's Punch to go with my sandwich. The staff here are always super nice. They put a lot of care into each sandwich, so if you're expecting to be in and out like at Subway, this place is not for you! Expect to wait 20-30 minutes, and even if you place a to-go order, they still need about 15 minutes because they don't make your sandwich until you get there. During lunch, it's almost always busy no matter the day, and I have noticed that sometimes they turn off the phone or don't answer. Once in a blue moon, they'll pop up on UberEats or Postmates where I live. The bad reviews for this place are so funny to read. Hours don't match the website? Showed up and they were closed? Some of you act like getting a Perry's Joint sandwich is a life or death situation, but I get it - they are delicious. If I wanted a Perry's Joint sandwich, called but no one picked up, and then drove over there to find out a privately owned business decided they didn't want to be open for whatever reason that doesn't concern me...I would be mad, only because I have to eat something subpar. read more

We found a gem in Altadena! Oakland boy goes to LA and opens a sandwich shop combining jazz, sandwiches, and ice cream. All of my favorites in one place. Unfortunately, due to Covid, no jazz right now, so keep them in business by buying their sandwiches. We went there twice, it was that good. First of all, the prices are amazingly low considering the quality and quantity you get. First time, I had tuna on squaw bread. Best tuna sandwich I have ever had. Best thing was that the filling went all the way to the edge of the bread. I loved them right there, just for that. Second thing, lots and lots of lettuce!!! Pickles were good. Partner was hiking and needed some fuel so he got the roast beef once and pastrami the next time. He was very pleased with his sandwiches. There's ample seating for small groups and individuals alike, including outdoor seating. The employees are friendly, but not overly chummy or sycophantic, which is a refreshing departure from some other establishments. The food is good. It's not "the best [x] I've ever had" good, but it's good and the prices they command are fair. I'm a fan of the croissant bread, personally. If you're not in the mood for sandwiches, the nachos are a surprising but welcome option as well. I only wish there was a way to get a half order of nachos, so you could do a sandwich + nachos option. As it is, getting both for one meal would prove to be too much food for most people. Again, the place just has a good vibe overall. It's clean, subdued, and even the quality of conversation you tend to overhear seems to be more interesting than at some other establishments. The artisan sandwiches are hand crafted and on my recent visit I ordered the "Hip Max" - roast beef and turkey sandwich with avocado, cheese, and other traditional sandwich filings. I don't eat turkey so the staff was accommodating and substituted my meat with another protein. I choose the pastrami and boy was it flavorful. I also upgraded my bread to a croissant and the flakiness and buttery texture really played well with the hearty meats and fresh produce. My friend who works with me brought me back a sandwich (the hip bird: turkey, Swiss cheese, avocado, tomatoes, lettuce, mayo, & mustard on fresh/soft sourdough bread) and O-M-G! Their sandwiches are amazing! Everything is so FRESH! Lettuce was crisp and the sour dough bread was nice and soft (super fresh)! My friend got me hooked! They have parking in the back (this place is in a medical plaza) and once you step in, the owners greet you! They make you feel so welcomed! Wonderful and really nice people. His wife hand picks and shops for the meat/produce herself. When I went in for myself, I ordered the pastrami sandwich (7.45 for a full sandwich/4.25 for a half) on croissant (50 cents extra for croissant). The croissant was delicious and he really packs in the pastrami! Better than The Hat! Huge portions/fresh bread and produce/friendly service/free and easy parking/good price!
