Man, I really wish someone had put me onto this hot chicken spot sooner because I've been missing out. This was easily one of the best chicken sandwiches I've had in a long time. What really stood out was how balanced everything was. Sometimes hot chicken places focus only on the spice, but here the flavor comes first. This spot easily makes my top 3 chicken sandwiches I've ever had. I went with the spicy, and it was HOT like actually hot but in the best way possible. Flavor was on point and the sauces really take it to another level. Seating is limited (only four seats), but my wife and I went on a Friday night and had no problem grabbing a spot and eating there. Stopped by Main Chick Hot Chicken and overall enjoyed it. The chicken itself is very good, especially the white meat, which is clean, juicy, and nicely crispy. That said, you really do need to choose a spice level to get any real flavor. Without it, there's very little seasoning. The spice levels bring the personality, but I do wish there were more non spicy dipping or flavor options for days when you want taste without all the heat. I would recommend getting two sauces though (additional fee may apply) [Spice Level~ Spicy] It did have a kick to it, but nothing unbearable, so if you like spicy chicken definitely get this level or even take it up a notch, which I'll do on my next visit LOL! I will note that the inside is quite small and only has 4 stools, that's it. So your chances of eating inside are slim, but there is an outdoor public seating area nearby which a few of the other business share. Overall, I would highly recommend coming here. Granted, I am writing this out of frustration, so I may update my review/score later. The review is only for DoorDash orders. This place is very hit or miss. During lunch rush, there seems to be a very high chance they somehow lose your ticket and then it takes 2-3 hours to get your order, shuffling through maybe 3-5 Dashers who get tired of waiting until it somehow gets resolved. The food arrives lukewarm or cold. When they DO pick up your order quickly, then it is great. I have noticed that Main Chick consistently strives to improve its product. I have noticed improved packaging--they recently added vents and the fries remain crispy, hot and fresh. They went through several designs of their sauce, from regular cup&lid, to squeeze tubes, and now to a more commercial dip cup. But from my experience over the past few years and at least thousands of dollars in total orders ($50 per order, that's only 20 orders to $1000), there is a 50% chance of this happening. When it happens, boy is it frustrating. This problem *only* happens here. Maybe they are busy and someone just grabs my order. I dunno. Just guessing. We got the Flock Combo with 8 pieces of dark mean (4 drum sticks, 4 thighs), a mac & cheese, and fries for $29.99. Oh and 6 Main Chick sauces. I added on a drink and the ube cheesecake to complete the meal. We opted for the Spicy level which brought the heat and had a very smokey flavor. When we're in Nashville we hit Hattie B's and grab a bushwhacker, so when we're home we're always in search for something that we can enjoy until our next trip to Nashville, but we're very pick. I've gone to several places around SoCal, but I'm always up to try a new place, so when I walked by Main Chick, I made an executive decision and ordered a ton of chicken with varying heat levels for the family. I'm more of a medium/medium-hot kinda girl, but my husband loves the hottest you can get and my nephews love trying it too. So, I ordered mild tenders (for my niece), several orders of medium and hot for myself and the boys, then one order of the waiver super hot. I also got a few orders of sides. I have to say, this was legit. You can tell just by the color. I loved that they had tenders and bone-in chicken. Their rub has a fantastic, deep flavor and a perfect texture. I like that their levels progressively get hotter and easy to pup up another level. The boys each got a tender of the waiver hot and they were sweating, stomping and pacing the floors. Of course, in the moment, it was intense, but they really enjoyed it. I'd say it was on par with some of our favorite Nashville hot chicken spots. The sides were solid and nice portions. I went little crazy with my order, so we had a lot of leftovers, but it was easy to pop in the air fryer for a few minutes and it was just as good was the day before. The boys enjoyed it for days. While the prices substantially increased, the portion sizes have shrunk and they are now nickel and dimeing customers for basic condiments that should be free. For instance, the MC sauce is now extra at $1.50 for just one small packet. If you order a chicken sandwich and fries for one person, you would need at least three MC sauce packets at a whopping five bucks, including tax just for the sauce. Whoever made this poor decision does not realize that this restaurant will continue to lose loyal customers like me who refuse to be manipulated and excessively charged. I had a very disappointing experience at Main Chick Hot Chicken while picking up an order. When I walked in, the cook or manager on duty (I believe his name was Jose) was standing with another employee, casually chatting. He looked directly at me but never acknowledged me, never greeted me, and made no effort to assist. I stood there waiting while he continued his conversation. Another customer walked in a few minutes later and rang the doorbell for service--something I didn't notice at first because I was focused on the employees who were already watching me stand there. Only after the second customer rang the bell did Jose finally come out to greet me, even though I had already been waiting several minutes. When I told him I was picking up an order, he checked and let me know the order wasn't ready yet. While waiting, I politely asked if I could have the sauce that normally goes on the sandwich put on the side instead. Since the ordering site didn't allow special requests, I came in early just to ask in person. He immediately cut me off and very rudely said, "No, we don't do that," without even letting me explain. I repeated my request, and again he responded rudely, saying they "can't do that," then walked away from me without offering any solution. I asked him to please check with the woman preparing the food (who I initially thought was the manager). I clearly heard him tell her, "She wants another sauce but I already told her no, so don't give it to her." At that point, she came out herself and kindly asked what was going on. After I explained, she had no issue helping me and provided the sauce right away. She was professional and respectful, which I appreciated. Unfortunately, Jose's attitude, lack of acknowledgment, and dismissive behavior completely overshadowed the visit. No customer should be treated that way--especially when simply asking a reasonable question. It did pack some heat for me (I am a heat wimp), but next time I will pick the mild heat for everything. The flavor of the mild was super good. The fries were some of the best I have had and didn't even really need dipping sauce. The service was great and my server was very good even anticipating my needs before I asked. The ambiance was chill with a small indoor seating area. Parking was on the street or in a parking garage a short walk away. I have had chicken burgers from Palm desert to San Diego to Oceanside to Orange county to Pasadena and I would place Main Chick into my top 2, possibly even pushing it's way into a tie for first for the best Chicken burger in Southern California. Just had a horrible experience here. Ordered delivery and the driver left it at the wrong address. (Could tell by the picture in the app.) When I called to ask him about it he told me to text him my address and he would bring me the food. What? I'm not going to take food that's been previously delivered to someone else. I went down to the store to let them know about the problem and they told me they couldn't do anything about it I would have to contact Uber because they handled the delivery. Note - I did not order through Uber. I order on the Main Chicks website. This is horrible customer service! No accountability. If your delivery service messed up you could at least throw me a chicken wing for my inconvenience. Parking in Old Town is a pain so I prefer delivery. That means this place is out of my rotation since they can't/won't resolve delivery issues. read more
