For a little shop next to the pool it's pretty solid. I wish they had fries but I understand why they don't. The toasted sandwiches are pretty tasty. The male staff are friendly. I wish they put a little more pesto on the chicken pesto sandwich or had a side to dip in but this is typical. If you are at the pool or going to the playground or tennis courts or fields around I'd suggest giving it a visit. read more

Dave's has popped up a few times in a few different locations but to my understanding this location is permanent. No matter the place he always makes a killer sandwich. I've had two different sandwiches so far let's get into it. Food: The grilled cheese is excellent, made with two different cheeses and buttered to perfection, this one is an easy 5/5. The famous tuna melt is phenomenal, not sure what they're putting in it to make it taste so delicious but this has me craving a sandwich weekly 5/5 The wait can be a little long, usually taking around 15-20 mins but no complaints here, good food takes time and the location is pretty new so I assume operations are still revving up. Our family were STOKED when we learned that Dave's had reopened at the Pasadena Rose Bowl Aquatic Center. They were our tried and true spot back when they were in Eagle Rock. Dave's is the kind of business you want to support; great food, great people. They're now in a prime location with tons of parking, a nice little area for sitting (right outside the front entrance), and a quick walk to the brookside park/playground. I've been going to Dave's since I was 8. Although Dave has had to move around quite a bit, he has always put so much love into the surrounding community and the food he makes! Awful customer service. We ordered iced coffee from this place 2 days and it was watered down. We did not make an issue out of it because it was end of day and these things happen. We decided to give them another shot today. We told the presumed owner that the coffee was not that great the last time and hoped it was better today. He said that if we did not like the coffee last time, then we should not bother ordering again. He also said that we could not get a better deal at three dollars per coffee. Very rude. I had a sandwich craving but I'm also still trying to fit into my wedding dress so I was super pleased to see lettuce wrapped sandwiches on here, adorably marketed as 'salad burritos'. Thank you, thank you for that. I got the turkey one and it was perfection! I loved the vinegary hit from the peppers and pickles, I'd probably add more though if I came back. My fiance got this.....atrocity called the hodge podge which was pastrami and roast beef on top of meatballs. I didn't try, can't recommend, sounds awful but he inhaled the whole thing so it must have been good. The sandwiches were tasty - especially the tuna melt! I know they're still working out the kinks at their new location but it took 40 minutes to get our food. 3 sandwiches - all very simple orders. Look, I know sometimes a rush of phone orders comes in at once and it can slow things down, but no one communicated this to us. When I went in after half hour to ask where our sandwiches were, the woman at the counter (I think she might be co-owner?) was curt and defensive, and said she'd told us all it would be 20-25 minutes. (She absolutely didn't tell us that - not to mention, we'd already bypassed that timeline.). She did apologize - but it felt abrasive and insincere. I've worked in sales my whole life and there are these little moments where you can step back and assess a customer's happiness (or lack thereof) and do something about it. Offer an earnest apology with no defensiveness. Say, hey - so sorry for the delay. Can we offer you some chips or a drink on the house while you wait? Good communication and a little sweetness goes a LONG way. Had they been more gracious, we absolutely would have given them another shot - sorry to say, that won't be happening. I'd recommend calling your order in until they have a smoother system going. read more

Just left with my take out order. Called it in, asked for a tuna melt, with the cheese being super gooey. ( exact words) , guy on the phone said no problem it'll take 20 mins. Cool, arrive and it was ready exactly in the 20 mins he told me. Great. Was it super gooey? ( cheese melted) .NO Was it ice cold and it's a tuna MELT? ..YES Was it slightly salty and dry?. YESS. Rosemary turkey sandwich the best way to describe this sandwich was a work of love. As I pulled apart the finely cut sourdough bread, I was immediately greeted with the sight of generous amounts of cheese that pulled, separated and stretched nearly my entire arms length. In complete and utter awe at the sight. Then the smells hit me. Mayo and mustard mixed with grilled avacado and fresh tomato all coalescenced into one mouth watering scent. This entire experience was before the first bite. Diving into the rosemary turkey the first thing I noticed was the flake of the toasted bread. Perfect hit of natural softness and crunch from the warming process on the grill. Finally, the moment I was waiting for. The enjoyment of the fine cut, plentiful portion of the turkey breast. before I continue , I must add that I usually go for the pastrami. Chillin and grillin does a damn good pastrami sandwich and I have gotten both the surf and turf which is tuna and pastrami as well as the Ruben. I could go on about those as well but it would be a books worth of information. to the moment of walking in the restaurant, it was significantly later in the day, bout half hour before closing. I greet Dave we exchange hellos and he knows his guests so well! He immediately lets me know they are out of pastrami. A hilarious moment, I had not even looked at the menu yet, but that is the level of care and attention to detail he puts into his craft and the people he cares for. Now Back to the sandwich The avacado was warmed, fresh and soft, a great example of perfectly ripe. The cheese wrapped around the whole sandwich and the mustard and mayonnaise served as an accent to add moisture and flavors beyond belief. the vibe of the restaurant. It's a gallery with collections from different artists scattered along the walls of the restaurant. I'm assuming they are local eagle rockers who would not have otherwise gotten a space to showcase the work , here we are again with the uniqueness of chillin and grilling being with the charismatic and loving personality of Dave. The people behind the restaurant are the ones I come back for. Chillin and grilling brings other parts of the community into a singular area. Ask yourself, where else can I grab a bite, cola and smoothie while gallivanting the space and speaking with local artists about sociopolitical topics? Topics that inspire their work and drive creativity. All in all well deserved 5 stars. read more

The bird is moist, the avocado creamy and the aioli has a perfect little kick without being spicy or overwhelming and the portion is pretty generous. I shared this with a guest and we left feeling very content. And you absolutely can't forget about the bread. It's fresh, light and fluffy and the Rosemary really compliments it well. It's certainly the highlight of the Sammy so I inquired about it. Dave said that he gets it from a chemical free wholesale distributor whose clientele includes mostly fancy shamancy high end hotels. But lucky for us we can sample a bit of luxury without the fancy price tag and Dave sure knows how to make 'em tasty too. Mmm... I ordered the Hodge Podge which contained pastrami, meatball and roast beef doused in marinara sauce. While the sandwich was good, I could barely taste or feel the texture of the non-meatball meat because the marinara sauce was too overpowering. Maybe Dave should do a little more grillin and less chillin because I wasn't a fan of waiting over 30 minutes to make a sandwich when there was only one person in front of me.
