I was craving an acai bowl and my sister recommended this place as it's very close to her. Food: 9/10. I got a small bowl and they let you pick your toppings and it's also unlimited which is great! I just wish there were a little bit of more toppings to choose from and the acai had a bit more acai taste to it. Overall, it was pretty good! Service: 9/10. There were two employees on-site helping out my sister, brother, and I. They were both pretty nice as well. Ambiance: 10/10. Pretty cool interior and very clean inside. The pitaya smoothie was pretty good. This was a very run-of-the-mill smoothie/acai location. You choose a smoothie base and add some toppings. I added spinach and cinnamon, but the toppings didn't really seem to affect the smoothie flavor very much. The location was very aesthetic and clean, a great place to just vibe. Seating options were limited, so you'll probably be standing or just leaving. The staff is super friendly and gave some great recommendations for toppings. The whole operation was super smooth, and our drinks came out really quickly. read more

This is located in the alley. The place is simple and clean. We came at around 2pm on a Thursday, not too busy. The staff were friendly. The girl who served us was accommodating. We wanted our bowl in a certain way, she listened and made our bowl in the way we wanted without giving us a face. Great service! Their acai was on the creamy side rather than icy. I got the small açaí bowl with chia seed pudding, hemp heart granola, blueberries, bananas, goji berries, almonds, cocoa nibs, almond butter, and honey drizzle. The açaí is delicious, creamy, and not too sweet. Balanced well with the nut butter and burst of blueberries. The chia seed pudding was a perfect pair with the açaí. It was refreshing and a perfect summer treat. The small alone was very satisfying. Would recommend as it is a 10/10 for me. The unlimited toppings means limitless creation. Came for breakfast during our trip to Pasadena. The açaí bowls were okay. The toppings were good but the açaí could've been better. It wasn't very sweet and kind of bland. My daughter ordered half açaí and half overnight oats but they forgot to put the açaí. I went back in and they gave us a small scoop of açaí in a separate bowl. I tried a bit of her overnight oats which she didn't finish and I didn't care for it. read more

We were in town for the oasis concert and wanted something healthy and quick. The food was perfect but the service was comically slow and not great. A young woman mashed up avocados for us as if she was in slow motion (we were the only people in the shop) and we also hadn't asked for the avocado toast, we wanted the PB one but at this point, why bother correcting. She just seemed totally unbothered to do any efficient service. Would go back if someone else was working there! read more

Huge fan of this place. Whenever I come into town before or after spa, this place is perfect for a light pick me up. Their avocado toast is heavenly and perfectly seasoned with salt, pepper, everything, and chili pepper flakes. The acai bowl base we got included the acai, coconut, and blue majik. The bases were not too sweet and the coconut was very creamy and flavorful. Everything is fresh and the service is always friendly. read more

Okay acai bowl with below average customer service. I would say the value is below what you pay for, not worth $13. The taste is good it's an acai bowl but not as delicious as I've had at other places. over all service and product are 3 stars. Staff is not friendly. The location is pretty park around it's close to impossible to find a parking spot on the street because it's a very densely populated area. I recommend parking in the structure close by, it's $1 to park. I ordered a small bowl with a blue majik base and chia pudding. I loved the blue majik, it was not too frozen and not too sweet. I added banana and strawberries as my fruit topping. For my crunchy toppings I added almonds, vanilla granola, cacao nibs...and of course topped it with peanut butter. I love having a variety of toppings to choose from because it allows your bowl to have more textures and flavors. The fruit was sweet too! There's not much seating room inside so if you're with a group you'll have to find somewhere else to gather. It's very quiet inside so if it's empty it could be a good spot for a solo date! read more

It was nestled between a few cute spaces in an alley off the main road, clean, quick flow of service and average prices. The bases are premade in time for the staff to scoop into your bowl. What else is better than eating a bowl of cold Açaí on a beautiful yet chilly day in LA? Incredible taste, more on the sweeter side, but damn good if you want something packed as a treat. Pros: - Easy-to-read menu - Allow you to taste bases - Customer service - Fair pricing - Fruits were fresh - Hip-hop from the 90s playing Side Notes: - Opens at 9 AM - Parking near the area or streets - Website has all ingredients - Limited seating inside - Order in advance avail - Next to a quaint coffee shop What We Got Done: - Blue Majik Açaí - Activated Charcoal Coconut Açaí It's a great spot to pick up an Açaí bowl, but do not try the toast or smoothie. They just opened as we arrived at 9 AM on Sunday, so they were still prepping and opening, and we sat at the bar to people-watch in the alleyway where there are a few other cool spots. Hours: 9 AM - 7 PM, all day, every day. Wait: No, we got there right when they opened. Parking: It's in the alleyway off W Colorado Blvd, called Mills Pl. Several parking garages are nearby, or you can park on the streets. They monitor parking meters very closely, so be sure to check the signs, as they differ in certain areas (see here for more information around Pasadena: https://www.cityofpasadena.net/transportation/parking-info/find-public-parking). Customer Service: The fellas behind the counter were chill and gave us free samples as it was hard to decide which one to get. 90s hip-hop was playing, but not at a club level where it was hard to hear (I almost wanted them to play it a bit louder). He knew the products sufficiently, so we asked him to help, and he did it with a smile. What We Loved: The bowls were incredible. It felt like we were cheating, as it was filling, and the base tasted like a piña colada. There are a ton of toppings (https://www.ourrootsandrye.com/menu) to choose from, but I'm glad the menu was straightforward to understand. Blue Majik is damn good, but maybe too good, as it felt like we were having a cheat meal, hahaha. Opportunities/Misc: Parking when Pasadena is busy can be a pain, but walking is good for you, so get out there and shop around. The views are of Mills Pl., in this alleyway off Colorado, so it's not the most people-watching if it's not crowded (not off the main street on Colorado). It would be great if they had the fly/gnat swatters we've seen at certain spots to keep the fruit flies away, as their toppings and more can attract many of them. I would love to have a less sweet option, and perhaps what toppings would be a good balance of sweet to sweeter ratio based on the base. We love it there, and if we are craving a bowl of Açaí when in PAS, we'll be back! read more

While wandering around Old Town Pasadena, I wanted something small to eat. So many places are getting so pricey these days, so I was pretty excited when I came across this spot. It's a bit hidden and you'd probably walk by without noticing it. I got a small Açaí Bowl ($8.95) where I was able to mix and match 3 bases. The guy helping me even let me sample some flavors, which was nice. I ended up choosing the Blue Majik (kind of like a pina colada flavor), Young Coconut, and Matcha Green Tea. The toppings are unlimited, so take your pick. Compared to some of the other açaí bowls I've had before, it wasn't presented as pretty, but it's still yummy. It's healthy, refreshing, and tasty. I saved some for later after freezing it and it was even more delicious. It's perfect as an healthier ice cream alternative. read more

Even though I am a savory type of breakfast guy, I decided to try a healthier breakfast option out and Roots & Rye was the perfect choice! The staff was very nice and the restaurant was clean and welcoming. I totally winged my order since I'm not used to eating at places like this; I got a bowl with half overnight oats and half açai and I added bananas, honey granola, blueberries, strawberries, and almonds. Overall a decent experience for our first time visit, as mentioned, if the service was more thoughtful & welcoming, it would've made the difference from a 3 star to perhaps a 4 or a 5 star. Not too milky and espresso was good not burnt/crazy acidic or anything. Mocha ($6.5)-- The mocha is real dark chocolate vs something like Hershey's syrup. You can definitely taste the difference! Good ratio of espresso and milk and I liked the dark chocolate! But if you're used to super sweet mochas then this isn't for you! Pretty reasonable prices for Pasadena no? I swapped the bacon for tofu, and it made for a satisfying breakfast. However, my husband wasn't as impressed with his brisket burrito, saying it was a bit dry. Based on this visit, I'd recommend sticking with the breakfast items, pastries, and of course, the coffee. Copa Vida still makes a great cup of coffee!

For food, we started with the bacon deviled eggs and shrimp taquitos. Those deviled eggs were lightly fried, which was different, then had apple wood smoked bacon on top, just a really tasty bite. The shrimp taquitos were also not what you would expect, nice and light but still very good. Entrees we went with the center cut fillet and the prime rib dip with swiss cheese on a brioche bun. That sandwich just melts if your mouth after dipping it in the jous, and the cheese was the perfect accompiament. The fillet was cooked perfect as well, coming out medium rare. Overall, great restaurant in Pasadena. Definitely get the Mai Tai, Devine eggs and prime rib dip. Taquitos were good and, if you're feeling like another hg er appetizer, definitely a way to go . The fillet, also great but I feel you can get it anywhere.

It was served in the proper glass with clean presentation and solid latte art. The temperature was slightly hotter than my personal preference, which is understandable in a brunch setting, but overall it was a great cortado and far better than what many brunch cafés serve. The pain au chocolat was outstanding as well and a perfect pairing with the cortado. The service made the visit even better. Our server, Michael (aka Bev), was welcoming, attentive, and provided excellent service from start to finish. I also had the chance to compliment the barista on the cortado. Although I didn't get her name, she was very kind, took a few minutes to explain their coffee program, and shared that they use Boxx Coffee beans along with a dedicated water system to ensure the cleanest possible cup. It's always nice to meet people who genuinely care about what they're serving. Overall, Oh La La exceeded my expectations. Despite its popularity, I find the food to be fairly average. Much of it tastes like it's made from standard commercial food-service ingredients rather than prepared fresh. On the positive side, the prices are reasonable, the dining room has a pleasant atmosphere, and the staff is generally attentive. Overall, it's a decent neighborhood breakfast restaurant - nothing particularly memorable, but nothing especially disappointing either. The Reyn Special - 3/5. A classic breakfast plate with eggs, bacon, hash browns, and banana bread. The eggs and bacon are fairly average, although the bacon tends to be overcooked and dry. The standout is the hash browns. They're cooked with a nicely browned, crispy crust while still remaining fairly moist inside. The real highlight, however, is the banana bread. It tastes homemade and is easily the best item on the plate. Crepes - 1/5. This dish comes as two separate plates: one with the ricotta-filled crepes and another with eggs, sausage, bacon, and your choice of fries or tater tots. Unfortunately, the crepes are the weakest part of the meal. The ricotta-filled crepes don't taste freshly made and instead resemble a pre-made food-service product that's simply reheated before serving. Both the crepe and ricotta filling have a generic flavor with noticeable artificial notes. You can choose either banana or strawberry topping, but both sauces taste overly processed and artificial. The accompanying breakfast plate is noticeably better. I chose the tater tots, which were well prepared - crispy on the outside while remaining soft inside. The bacon, however, was again overcooked and dry, making it tough to chew. The sausage was acceptable but unremarkable. Scrambled Supreme - 2.5/5. Despite the name, this is essentially an omelet. The eggs have a mild, neutral flavor, and the fillings are okay but don't stand out. Coffee - 2/5. The coffee is classic diner coffee in every sense. It's somewhat watery, heavily roasted, and finishes with a flat, slightly bitter aftertaste. It's neither particularly good nor particularly bad - just standard coffee that does the job. Overall, The Reyn succeeds as a comfortable, affordable breakfast spot with a pleasant atmosphere and friendly service. While the food is average, and several dishes rely on ingredients that taste commercially prepared rather than freshly made.

It comes unsweetened, but there's a convenient self-service station stocked with simple syrup, utensils, napkins, and to-go containers so you can customize it however you like. One thing to note is that it's a self-bus restaurant, so after your meal you'll return your tray and dispose of your trash. This was a poor execution of a risotto. The texture was off, and the flavor was overwhelmed by whatever cheese they used in this dish. The charred scallop was one single scallop cut in half and overly charred and rubbery in taste. The blue shrimp were shriveled too. We made sure to eat the proteins to prevent waste but you know it's bad when my boyfriend didn't even want to togo this dish. He normally eats anything to prevent waste. Branzino alla Griglia ($38) - Whole grilled branzino topped with eggplant, salsa verde and herb salad. This was the least bad item that we paid for... Although there was a lot of bones to be cautious of. I understand the risk of stumbling on a few bones when ordering a whole fish but this was more than I would have liked. I also didn't like some of the flavors coating the fish. Although from a grilled perspective it was crispy and perfectly cooked. This is a popular business with plenty of patrons to keep them busy. Whatever they like... it isn't what I look for in a business I frequent. I know they don't need my business and I will gladly stay away and save myself all of the trouble. This was way too stressful and there weren't any dishes I need to have again. My experience was so awful I'm being very generous with this 3 star, which is "average".
