Came here for our Marathon Eve carb load dinner and it did not disappoint! We ordered SO MUCH food for 3 people which we regretted at first but much appreciated for leftovers post race. Portions are definitely family style! We ordered the rigatoni bolognese, vodka rigatoni, pepperoni pizza, and their house spaghetti and meatballs. Food: the food was incredible. All the pastas were perfectly al dente. My favorite was the vodka rigatoni and their pizza was a beautiful hefty square Detroit style like pizza and was probably one of the best pizzas I have had. The spaghetti and meatballs was delicious and you can taste the slow hours long simmer taste with sauce and ginormous meatballs. Tip: you definitely need reservations as we tried to adjust our reservation for an earlier dinner and that wasn't even possible because of how popular they are. read more

Back at Pepinos exactly a year later with the same girlfriend who enjoyed it with me. I am so glad we finally got to order the spaghetti and meatballs - absolutely no regrets and all joy when we saw that massive meatball piled on top. This time around, I was also still impressed with the appetizers, particularly the salad. This place makes great salads! The avocado and feta paired really nicely with the greens and the dressing was light, tart, and refreshing. The cheesy bread may not rival last year's cheesy dish, but it was solid nonetheless. My boyfriend and I were around the neighbourhood attending a Yelp Elite event at Glitch and was still hungry afterwards so swinged by Pepino's for a late dinner bite. We arrived around 8:35pm and was told there would be a 30 minute wait, which we were fine with. Even on a wet Wednesday evening, the restaurant was busy and we realized it might be due to Dine Out Vancouver. Regardless, this is a busy spot and reservations are required for prime time dining. We got our table in less than 30 minutes and while waiting, were served water. This was a really nice touch and shows the warm lovely service at this establishment. Since we weren't overly hungry, we opted out of Dine Out and ordered the small House Avacado Salad with feta, Beets, and pistachios. Of course, we also ordered our favourite Spaghetti and meatballs. As per usual, solid meal and we had tons of leftovers. Though we couldn't even remotely finish what we ordered, my boyfriend reminisce about the amazing Big Pauly double pepperoni pizza we got last time and is already looking forward to our next visit to have it again! Our new Italian go to spot! While it is very difficult to get into and requires much advanced planning to get a reservation, this place worth the wait! It's a warm cozy restaurant, with a simple but fantastic menu and great staff. We have been a few times and our favorite dishes are penne with vodka sauce, chicken piccata and the meatballs! Somehow the meatballs are velvety smooth and still the best I've ever had. The tiramisu is also fantastic with ending note. We hope to be back again soon but this time with more so we can finally try the family menu! read more

I came to this restaurant yesterday with my husband, kids and their partners. I was warmly greeted by the staff who knew that I was celebrating my birthday and the host gave me a birthday hi-5! Our waiter was fantastic and attentive. We chose not to do the set family style at $61/person, but we ordered a few dishes and shared like family style so that we could taste a bit of everything. We thought we had ordered too much food and our waiter was very thoughtful to tell us which items he would take out if he had to. This really impressed us because other restaurants would push you to order more food. We ended up ordering everything we wanted and it was the perfect amount. The quaint atmosphere was simple with only a few tables. This made the staff very attentive to refilling our waters (still and sparkling) as well as wiped our table before putting down new plates. It wasn't loud, but it wasn't quiet either. It was perfect to have a good conversation but not hear the table next to you. I am looking forward to coming back here again and trying more dishes. What an amazing place! Came here with friends for a celebration and we had the "eat like a family" which was $61 per person. There were four of us and we were not disappointed! The chef started with two appetizers of burrata and focaccia with balsamic vinegar followed by house avocado salad, feta, and beets. Next was the pasta which consisted of rigatoni alla vodka and linguinie alla bolognese. There were four yummy bountiful plates ! Then came the pork chop alla pizzalola and the cherry coke baby back ribs which were absolutely mouthwatering. The main platters also came with sides of sauteed wild mushrooms and roasted broccolini. At last were the dessert to share fo ricotta cheesecake and tiramisu. We ate a lot and there were still leftovers to pack up. They were not skimmpy with the servings. The place was old fashioned but super cozy and packed with groups and lively conversation. Street parking is free. The servers were super friendly and courteous. I don't get the hype!? My friend and I had finally snagged a reservation for dins and were so looking forward to this spot. Everyone and their dog raves about this place. Unfortunately it did not live up to the hype. It's giving old cozy italian spot but there are no windows so it feels cramped and is loud. At first, we got seated next to the bathroom (not nice), so thankfully they moved us to the centre area, which we were then sandwiched between two families. This isn't the restaurants fault but the 2 kids beside us were visibly sick and coughing (essentially on our table). Our server was okay, and progressively got worse. We had a few questions and she was very condescending - not okay. As for the food, we got the garlic cheese bread (the best thing we had). I'd give it a 12/10!! We then ordered pasta and it was so mediocre. We thought about getting the pizza, but $38 a pop is criminal! Lastly, we ordered the Tiramisu - my italian friend was disgusted. Great outing with friends. Haven't been to Pepinos since 2020. Menu has changed a bit but the ambiance, the taste and quality of the food, and the service hasn't changed since my last 5 star review. Solid Italian place that has replaced Nick's Spaghetti House for a few years now. Parking is plentiful along Commercial, as well as on the side streets. The place is pretty old school on the inside. Lots of dark wood, and dim yellowish lighting. Feels like someone's living room. Nice and cozy. The place was packed on a weeknight. Staff are very friendly and professional. They sure are busy. The food took quite a while to arrive (30+ minutes?) for our group. My understanding was that the kitchen was trying to "sync" all of our orders, which is totally understandable. Big Nick pizza - I imagine this is a nod to the previous incarnation of this spot (Nick's Spaghetti House). FYI this place serves the old school thick crust pizza. Very filling, which is both a good and bad thing. They don't skimp on the toppings, which is nice. The pizza is rectangular, and cut into 2 x 4 = 8 pieces. Linguine alla Vongole (clam linguine) - probably my favourite dish of the bunch. Nice light sauce, and the pasta is nice and firm (al dente?). Tasty. Cherry coke baby back ribs - couldn't really tell they were marinated in it to be honest. Nice tender pieces that fell off nicely. Served in a nice big triangular (prism) pile. Taste was decent but nothing special. I think they used a bit too much sauce. Brussels sprouts - came included as a side with the ribs. Pretty tasty. Nice and crispy but not burnt. The portions here are definitely bigger than normal (each main can probably feed 2 people if not big eaters), and the price reflects that accordingly. My friends who had pasta (pictures not shown) had their dishes served in a pile. Definitely comparable to Anton's, but slightly smaller. They had trouble finishing their dishes. The tiramisu is also big. Served in a nice big sundae glass. Can be finished by 1 person, but it was enough dessert for 3 of us shared. Friends and I left happy. I'm personally not a big fan of Italian, but Pepino's converted me. I've been thinking about it every day since I had it. It's not pretentious fare, but still really good and encapsulates that perfect ambiance that's welcoming to anyone. We saw plenty of families, friends, other groups on dates, and people individually eating by themselves. Lived up to the hype in my books. On my boyfriend and I's trip to Vancouver, everyone was telling us to check out Pepino's. An Aritzia salesperson and our AirBNB host made their love for it known to us! We stayed close by to the Little Italy/Commercial Drive area, so the hype along with the convenience of visiting piqued our interest. We first tried to walk in at 8 PM on a Saturday. Big mistake. The wait was an hour and a half!! My boyfriend was very dejected, he loves Italian food with his entire heart. The next day on Sunday, I could tell he still wanted to go, so I checked Opentable at 8:30 and saw a reservation open for 9 PM! Sure, not the most opportune time to have dinner, but reservations available on the same day? And on our last evening in Vancouver? I immediately put my name down and went. The waitress informed us that the plates are family style and that the portions are meant to be shared, and that one entree is enough to serve two people. My boyfriend was very hungry though, we ended up ordering an appetizer and two entrees (all with no parmesan, because I don't like it). Cheesy garlic bread: So good and perfect when it's hot, eat it while you can. We tried saving a slice to dip into our tomato sauce from the spaghetti and meatballs, but it just doesn't hit the same when it's cold. :( The photo of it speaks for itself, it tastes so good. Rigatoni alla vodka: I loved this, the pasta is al dente and the texture is amazing. My boyfriend did make a comment that the vodka taste didn't get fully cooked off in this, so if you're more averse to the alcoholic flavor, maybe avoid this? I didn't really taste a difference though, and I hate the taste of vodka! Depends on if you're a chef yourself and like making Italian food like he does, I suppose! It's in the same vein that I can taste and feel the texture of baked goods that include cornstarch, corn syrup, or almond extract :) Spaghetti and meatballs: Boyfriend really liked this, it tasted really good and the meatballs were LARGE. I initially balked at the idea of paying $8 for an additional meatball (we didn't end up doing so, hence why my photo only includes two) but they are so big. Very delicious. Tomato sauce was amazing. I miss this dish with all my heart. At this point we were both very full. I'm now converted to an Italian fan. Next time, I absolutely have to try their Detroit style pizzas!! read more

Tonight I checked off a bucket list item by finally making it to Pepino's, and it was well worth the wait. I grew up in Vancouver but never had the chance to visit this restaurant's predecessor, Nick's Spaghetti House. Finally I booked a table and sat down with their famous spaghetti and meatballs (preceded by a glass of Chardonnay grappa which was excellent). There is no way that you can eat a plate-full like this in one sitting. It comes with two massive meatballs, and when it was brought to me, the guys at the other table said it reminded them of Sydney Sweeney. The pasta was firm in a delicious sugo. The room is laid out like a traditional Italian - Canadian trattoria with paintings on the walls showing scenes from the home country. This is a very pleasant place to bring a date, friends or a family. The service was excellent and attentive. They told me that on Wednesdays, the special is orecchiette with rapini and sausage, a very traditional dish from Puglia, so I'm sure to go back. read more

I have always liked Osteria Savio Volpe but wanted to try something different for my birthday, so decided on Pepino's. Reservations are definitely recommended as they book up well in advance - the restaurant was full even at 5:30 pm on a Tuesday. They have their own parking lot but the spots are very tight - there is also free parking available in the neighbouring streets. The portions looked really generous, so for the 4 of us, we went with 2 pastas and 1 pizza. We had at least half the pizza leftover for the next day. Vodka rigatoni ($25): this is their most popular dish, and rightfully so. The pasta is al dente and the sauce is really delicious. Tomato-y and slightly creamy with a little kick. We added a meatball for $8. Would get this again. Mushroom gnocchi in marsala sauce ($27): gnocchi is one of their housemade pastas (I think the other is their papardelle) and we love gnocchi so we had to try this. The portion for this dish was quite a bit smaller. The gnocchi are on the soft side instead of chewy. The sauce is pretty rich and tasty but a bit overly salty. I would probably not order this again. "Big Morty" pizza ($32): this pizza is deep dish style. In my opinion, it is more like a fluffy bread than a crust, like a focaccia. The toppings were pretty tasty but again like the gnocchi, on the salty side. Maybe it was because of the thick layer of pesto sauce and cheese. The sides are crispy but not the bottoms of each slice. The portion was really good - two people could share and there would be leftover. I would try another pizza next time, or get a different pasta. We had a tiramisu for dessert to share ($14) as we saw many other tables getting this too. Their tiramisu was very tasty, with layers of cake and cream. They also sent over a birthday cannoli as they were aware we were celebrating a birthday. This had an almond flavour, I think. I think next time I would want to try another pasta and get the Caesar salad - the portion for that looked really generous! Service was attentive and thoughtful. It is a bit cramped feeling in there. The service was good, lots of servers for the space, so you get a reasonable amount of attention. It was loud, but that made it a comfortable and casual spot. We started with the cheesy garlic bread and Caesar salad. The cheesy garlic bread was delicious, and the salad was exactly what you'd expect. We moved onto the spaghetti and rigatoni alla vodka. Both noodles were cooked perfectly, and the sauce was good, but nothing that stood out. I will say, the spaghetti is a huge portion, we barely made it through a quarter of it. The meatball was also quite enjoyable, I really liked the texture. The tiramisu wasn't bad, though it was more cream-forward, which is not my favourite. Overall, for $45 per person, this was a great deal because both my friend and I took home leftovers. Not sure that I'm pressed to come back here for a casual dinner, but I do think the most value move would be to order one spaghetti for two people, plus the cheesy garlic bread. My boyfriend made a reservation here for my birthday and let me tell you, it was so freaking good, fly way above my expectations. I feel like it's so hard to find a good Italian restaurant, but THIS IS THE ONE! I will say though it was really loud and super packed. I wish I got the name of our server :(, but we went 7/11 and he was the only one wearing a hat, but he was super kind and very informative of the menu. He also came by multiple times to check on us and fill up our waters. So kind ! We got the alla vodka rigatoni pasta 10/10. The noodles were al dente and the cream was so rich, creamy, and flavorful. It filled and covered each noodle, so with each bite there was explosive flavor!! We also got the Cesar salad, 9.5/10 I wish we took a picture, but we were too excited to eat and I forgot because it looked so yummy. Actually thinking about that salad makes my mouth water. It had the perfect amount of croutons and the lettuce was nice and crisp, each one! and the sauce was a little more lemony than other Cesar salads, but I think that's what made my mouth water so much IN A GOOD WAY. We also got the stinger pizza 8/10. This pizza is so freaking good. The hot honey is unexpectedly delicious with the melty cheese. The reason why I wouldn't give it as high of a rating is because it's super duper heavy. I think if I had gotten a coke rather than water I would've enjoyed it more. I could only eat a slice, but that slice was really good. Lastly, we got the tiramisu, 8/10 super creamy, just wish it had more coffee taste. Stumbled upon Pepino's after pottery last night. I felt a bit underdressed (leggings & slides) but didn't plan for the meal when I left the house. At 830pm on Tuesday, there was a minimal wait of 5 minutes for them to seat the couple ahead of us and set up our table. I was recommended the bolognese by an employee at the door and it was delicious. The portion was hearty (enough for leftovers) and the meat sauce was flavourful. The truffle fettuccine was the better of the two pastas though. The portion was significantly smaller but the flavour was unmatched. I think a protein might be a good addition for next time. The tiramisu was recommended in multiple reviews so we gave that a try too. It was really good but I would say I've had better at other Italian restaurants in the city. We came here on a weeknight without any reservations. The restaurant was really busy for a weekday but we were luckily able to be seated right away. We were told we only had the table for 1 hour, probably for another reservation, but that they will let us know if we had more time. We're usually fast eaters anyway so it wasn't a problem for us. It was our first time there so we asked for a recommendation from our server, Mel. We chose the Garlic Bread and Rigatoni alla Vodka because she had such a good energy and got us excited about those two dishes. Surprisingly, only two of their pasta dishes were fresh pasta - the Gnocchi and Pappardelle. We decided to try the Pappardelle instead. All the dishes we got tasted amazing. The cheese spread on the garlic bread was soo good - definitely not the typical garlic bread you'll find at a restaurant. I liked the sauce for the rigatoni more, but honestly both pasta dishes were delicious. They had a dine out option available but I'm glad we didn't go with it because their portions are huge and we were so full and had leftovers. Also, if you come back within 7 days, you can bring your receipt and they will give you a free cheesecake with the purchase of an entree. it's bestie s' bday coming up and bday girl chose pepino's for her dinner with us girls. The location is not the greatest for sure and parking is a bit sketchy...but inside, you will find a world fine italian home cooking. Again, its not fine dining but home cooking at its finest. AMAZING pasta and pizza. Woah. I went here for Dine Out. The pasta was perfectly seasoned and loved the texture of it - al dente! The appetizers were so filling already, good quality cheese! Pepino's is a great spot for a lowkey date night with consistent food that never misses. Their spicy vodka rigatoni is my favourite, their service is always nice and friendly. The only thing is it's always hard to snag a reservation here but for the quality of food it makes sense! read more

I love Pepino's but am disappointed that they got rid of their happy hour! We ordered their Rigatoni alla Vodka (but sub for Pappardelle which is homemade). It comes half the size of the original dish but melts in your mouth! We also ordered the Chopped Iceberg Salad (Peperoncino, Italian Dressing, Olives, Macedonian Feta) which is delicious but mix well!
