We were disappointed the salad had no basil, we were told that fresh basil is hard to find right now. The two dishes we ordered were the Pappardelle alla Bolognese and Spaghetti alla Carbonara. The Bolognese sauce was way to salty for my liking, but some may find it quite tasty. The Carbonara was forgettable not bad but have had better. Overall not a bad place. read more

After four days of plowing through an amazing array of sushi, Thai, Japanese styled tapas, Chinese, and hand pulled noodles, we were on the hunt for two things and two things only: a superb and simple pasta and a nice glass or two of wine. Mission accomplished. Had a meal that was utter perfection here tonight. The pasta hand-made in house: Pappardelle alla Bolognese and a Taliatelle al Tartufo, both exquisite but in particular the tartufo. A somewhat pricey bottle of Borolo lived up to it's fee and then some. Service was impeccable and we were treated to a complimentary lemoncello to end the evening. Not typically a fan of the stuff, we thought this was superb. This is a really cozy and intimate, even romantic kind of restaurant with low lighting, nice music and just the right touch of everything. The owner is from just outside of Rome so the dishes reflect that kind of taste and treatment. As someone that has spent a great deal of my life recreating Italian dishes at home, it was a real treat to dine on this kind of quality. Perfecto! Tucked in the Bute "court", I've walked past this place for years and finally had the change to try it out. The service (I forgot his name) was exceptional. He was so knowledgeable and kind. However, the female server was not very friendly. We sat outside which is great (minus the people walking by smoking weed or blasting their music). Speaking of music, the music selection here was great! Covers of songs which took us a bit to figure out but added to the ambiance! We ordered a few dishes to share. We started with the Caprese (Mozzarella, sliced tomatoes, extra virgin olive oil). The olive oil was great quality and tied the dish all together. Thick slices of cheese and a tomato salad was very fresh! The kids shared the huge portion of Pappardelle alla Bolognese (Wide Ribbon pasta with traditional simmered beef & pork tomato sauce) which they devoured. We split the Gnocchi of the Day (Gnocchi in a 4 cheese sauce). The gnocchi was light and bouncy but had a sharp cheese flavor that I was not digging. Huge portions! We also got the Ravioli Burro e Salvia (Handmade Ravioli stuffed with ricotta and spinach with rose sauce, topped with Parmigiano Reggiano cheese). Great little spot! My friend and I came here to grab something heavy to eat for our Sunset Beach event. She said she didn't want to share a plate as she was very hungry, so I said ok and I ordered gnocchi. She had pasta with mushrooms and it was a pretty big plate! She ate it all by herself and I ate mine. Mine was much less than hers. Both our orders were delicious, we ate it all in less than 20 minutes. Inside is quite small and dark. What a great little restaurant! Tucked just out of sight off of Davie At at Bute, this secluded little joint provides some of the best Italian food I've ever had! From the get go, the bread with Olive Oil and Balsamic vinegar...oh my, that bread is so good! A full menu without a lot of clutter, we all began with their massively delicious rich tasty green olives. I chose the basic minestrone soup with chick peas. For my main, I chose the special... Prosciutto with Green Peas, two Coloured Paste in a tasty cream sauce... The soup had an early fall freshness to it, full of vegetables, chick peas and pasta...very delicious. Anytime anyone suggests a pasta mean with prosciutto and green peas I'm in. And I'm glad I didn't second guess myself...simpl superb! By this time I couldn't take anything else so a dessert review will be next time! Because I'm gonna go back! And one of the treasures of this ace is Luca, our server. Delicious! I held off visiting this place for too long. While it may look unassuming from the outside, The Italians feels classy and intimate once you step-inside, and staff are friendly and attentive, and quickly start you off with soft complimentary bread and a very nice olive oil and vinegar dip. And the food! I went for the spaghetti all'amatriciana, and I thought it was really delicious. The acidity of the tomato sauce with undertones of chili peppers and wine paired really well with the sparse but strong pecorino cheese, and the guanciale (pork cheeks) were deliciously tender and added great flavour to the sauce. And the noodles! I've never been to an Italian place where I've actually noticed a unique quality and character to the noodles, but I definitely noticed it here, with slight corners and a strong texture making for some of the most distinctive spaghetti noodles I've eaten. I also sampled some of the carbonara, which I thought had great flavour and a nice balance between pepper and fat and cheese. And the tiramisu was really excellent - it was a big portion, good for sharing, and was a great blend of creamy custard with a hint of liqueur, and delicious, soft-soaked biscuits. Best of all, we heard that they might be embarking on a monthly rotating menu exploring the cuisines of the 20 different regions of Italy. That sounds really fun! Although even without that, I would absolutely want to come back for more. I'm glad to have such a new favourite Italian place in the West End! read more

Mama Mia!! We really lucked out last night when we stopped in and were beyond graciously seated at the bar since we did not have a reservation. The vibe in here is like sitting at your mom's kitchen table as Sunday dinner is served. Our seat was in the corner and for most of the meal the sun shone in as we ate. It was glorious. We ordered the meatballs, caprese salad and the fennel salad. All were excellent. The meatballs were tender and flavorful bathed in just enough of the delectable tomato sauce and an excellent parmagiano reggiano to keep them moist and delicious. Every bite was like a walk down memory lane of family dinners past. The caprese did not disappoint as several beautifully cut slices of mozzarella rested between blankets of a cut tomato. Visually stunning and equally scrumptious. I overheard the couple next to us mention the fennel salad, always one of my favorites and as Maurizzio made his way over to us with the caprese I asked him to bring us the fennel as well. Generous slices of flavorful fennel adorned a salad of romaine and other mixed greens with a light dressing of high quality EVOO. Unfortunately they were out of cannoli but that did not in any way diminish this very lovely meal on our first night in Vancouver. read more

We were just about to go inside and ask when the waiter finally came out with our food. He apologized, said there was a mess in the kitchen, I think he meant a mistake or something. I felt bad for him as he was young and new to the country. Food was fairly bland and unimpressive. Won't be back and don't recommend. Great spot on Davie street with a beautiful decor and patio. We went on a Tuesday night and got a table right away. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable. We ordered a bottle of Prosecco and some bread with our mains which were spaghetti and ravioli. Portions weren't huge like Anton's but good for a single person. The plating was pretty the flavours were mediocre, therefore, I gave 3 stars. We paid around $100 which is on a pricier end but I would recommend to try this cozy spot of Davie for some Italian dinner night. read more

This place has got to be my favourite in all of downtown Vancouver. My co workers and I (4 of us) seamlessly booked a reservation and made our way down. It is tucked away in the area, but is so nicely decorated inside and out. It has a beautiful modern yet classic charm/ambiance. Twinkle lights, plants, lights down low, comfy seats (but extremely limited) and a classic bar. We were created by Jorge as soon as we walked in, huge smile on his face, sat us down and provided us with some recommendations. We ended up getting 2 starters: the Antipasto Italiano(half size) and a salad that is not in the menu. I cannot remember the name but it consisted of Arugula, cherry tomatoes, olive oil, topped with 100% fresh mozzarella i believe it was? Either way, both were heavenly. We all also got Aperol Spritz's which were so yummy. For the main course, we all got the Tagliatelle al Tartufo. This was the absolute best pasta I have ever tasted in my life. They hand make their pasta fresh daily in store, based on their grandmothers recipes, and oh my goodness their grandmas nailed it! For dessert we had limoncello shots (I know, I know) and just had a great time chatting with Jorge and enjoying our time here. Although it was pricey, this would be a fantastic place to go for a special occasion, as the food, quality, and service was the best i've ever received. This year, we decided to walk a little further away from all the festivities and eat at this quaint pasta place in a great location! By far THE worst experience I have ever had in the city. My best friend and I go for cocktails and try something new every Wednesday. It's our girl's night and we look forward to it so damn much. To give you an idea, our top 3 spots are: CinCin, The Lift, Market by Jean-Georges. We usually go to one of those 2-3 times a month and then try something new once or twice per month. So ... where do I even begin? This happened 6 days ago FYI. 1. That poor new waitress (she told us she was new) It was evident she wasn't happy. Girl, get out of that abusive environment stat! You're a rockstar! 2. We both ordered margaritas. 5 minutes later, we were told that the bartender quit in a hurry and that they don't have the mixers....or tequila. Fine. We asked if we could get a Cosmo. No can do. No cranberry. Gin and Tonic? Bingo. Finally something they can make. We ordered double but the whole thing just tasted like tonic and soap. I asked the waitress if they could make a whiskey sour and I specifically asked her how they make it. Since she's clearly the only experienced person working there, she immediately said "Egg whites, simple syrup etc". Yup, bingo. 15 minutes later, I finally got the drink. It was just whiskey with I've no clue what else but that was no whiskey sour. It also had no egg whites even though I clearly made sure to ask for that and the waitress made sure that that is what I wanted. 3. The food. We both ordered the Spaghetti all'Amatriciana. My friend can't have dairy or gluten so we were super excited that they were able to make her gluten free pasta (CinCin's GF pasta is FANTASTIC and the best in town). The food took almost an hour. I had one bite and gagged. I wasn't sure if it was something in the sauce but I didn't want to be rude so I ***tried*** to eat more. I managed to have three bites before calling it quits. Something in that sauce was old and rotten. The stench was UNREAL. I cannot even describe how disgusting that was. My friend was able to have maybe 5 bites. On top of the sauce being awful, her pasta wasn't properly cooked and was very chewy. We were hungry and there was no way we could force ourselves to finish this. So I told them we couldn't eat it. Naturally, the owner asked what was wrong with it and we politely explained it. HE YELLED AT US. Literally. The guy lost his mind. He was downright verbally ABUSIVE. We were as polite as we could possibly be and conflict like that terrifies me. He continued yelling about how we don't understand Italian food (I grew up in Croatia and used to go to Italy with my parents all the time - I've been to Italy at least 30 times in my life if not more, it's my second home). This had nothing to do with Italian food. Italian food does not taste like it's gone bad and rotten. Italian food should taste fresh. It's my favourite cuisine in the world. After being blatantly attacked, I told him I'd pay for the gin and tonics since we did finish those but there's no way I'm paying for my untouched whiskey sour (I didn't bother to try it) or the food I could not eat. He told us to get out immediately and proceeded to yell at us while we were getting out. We were 30 feet away from the restaurant and we could still hear him yell. I have never in my life experienced something like this. It's funny how this restaurant rarely gets reviews on here and it just so happens that in the past 3 days it got 2 positive reviews from reviewers with ZERO experience and ZERO other reviews. Nice try trying to fool people. You need anger management classes, some tact and a good publicist. If I could give this a zero, I would. My friends and I frequent this little gem of a restaurant quite often. I felt it was about time I posted a review. The customer service has always been top notch and the ambiance is very warm, cosy and sophisticated. The owner Danilo always makes one feel appreciated and comfortable. The menu is fantastic and offers an array of mouth watering home made like Italian dishes. I always have a weakness for the spaghetti pesto. We've also been fortunate enough to drop in on Wednesday's when the Dane and his lovely lady sing Dean Martin tunes. Such a fun evening. They were totally scrumptious tasty and AMAZING. All made with fresh newly harvested local homemade ingredients. This reflected in the wonderfu unique blend of Mediterranean flavours. Their chef is A TRUE ARTIST!!! The food was the best we've had in all of lower mainland. The meat dishes were aromatic and full of amazing flavours. The Antipasto was a great starter and it was super tasty. It had few but well chosen Italian European imported deli meats, cheeses and preserves. Their pasta noodles are one of the best I've ever had; they're chewy and have a texture I've never encountered at other Italian restaurants. I wasn't surprised when our hostess (who was also our server) said they make the pasta themselves. That said, I thought the sauces could be better. My friend ordered the spaghetti all'Amatriciana and I thought it was slightly too acidic. I had the carbonara, which is my favourite kind of pasta (I order it in pretty much every Italian restaurant I go to), and though I loved the strong black pepper flavour, the sauce was wetter than I'd like and in the end, overly salty. But the portions of guanciale were very generous. We shared a tiramisu for dessert and it's so interesting that every Italian restaurant I go to seem to do it differently. Their's has a very liquid sauce that go well with the somehow not soggy cake layer inside. It was excellent and well portioned to share between two people (or one person with a big sweet tooth). The restaurant itself was tiny so be prepared to be seated closely to other people. It's really no place for large groups. That said, it's well decorated and furnished, the decor and ambiance really pull together well, a lovely place for a quiet intimate dinner. The service was also very friendly and quick. They're also doing a Taste of Italy tour which features a different region of Italy every month in addition to their regular menu. I visited today the restaurant, the food was delicious but unfortunately, there are some management issues there, I heard someone from management run out after his server left in the middle of the evening, we all were able to hear inside the restaurant how this person insult his server on the street, that's unacceptable, I will never approve that on anyway. The person from management came inside the restaurant and started cursing in Italian, I speak Italian and understood everything he said in relation to the server.
