I booked Lupo for dinner from our arrival into Vancouver. We headed straight to dinner from the airport - driving distance is short but Vancouver rush hour traffic is no joke. The restaurant is located next to a fire station, sushi takeout and indoor bike gym. You can park in the underground pay lot shared between a hotel and public. The restaurant interior is pleasant and inviting, like dining in a rustic mansion. Restrooms are located on the upper level. The service was great and food was excellent overall - just one minor ding. Overall 4 stars. 1. Absolutely share the Octopus Mosaic, a carpaccio-preparation of paper-thin octopus fused together like chain mail armor, and bursting with flavor from the limoncello dressing. High protein and low carb too (5 stars) 2. Romaine salad was fresh and had light dressing with a quail egg snuck underneath. (4 stars) 3. No kid's menu here but they do offer half-sized entree portions with modifications. We got the rigatoni with butter parmesan and our son eventually ate half of it. He was probably still full from lunch. 4. The lobster-prosciutto stuffed chicken breast was skin-on and cooked perfectly. Very hearty dish, with veggies and gnocchi to add some carbs for balance. 5. Wife got the Branzino filet in Veloute sauce. Fish was cooked perfectly and packed with flavor. The minor ding is that a few hours after dinner my wife was getting super thirsty. It was either dehydration or maybe there was more sodium than expected. Vietnamese fish sauce has a similar effect on her. Anyways, it was an excellent dish when we ate it. Had an incredible dinner here this evening! The restaurant is beautiful - it looks like an art gallery. A beautiful old house where the rooms have tables and cool artwork on the walls (was that David Lynch's portrait??). The service was fantastic and the food was even better. We started with a special appetizer of burrata and greens, tomatoes, etc. that was delicious, and the focaccia. Then I had the linguine with shrimp, my son had the Bolognese, and my husband the rib eye steak. We also had some great cocktails and some really lovely glasses of wine. This was a wonderful Italian dining experience in Vancouver! Reservations are highly recommended and easily made on their website. The interior is beautiful and actually gives you the feeling of eating in a small and elegantly appointed home. The server was quite knowledgeable, friendly, and attentive. I tried the Aperol spritz cocktail which was tasty, strong, and refreshing. For starters we had the focaccia bread and meatballs. Both were delicious! The bread had a wonderful soft and fresh texture. The meatballs were hearty and flavorful and well-sized for a starter. I had the salmon entree. Very tasty and fresh with a light sauce and a variety of vegetables. Very good! Save room for dessert! I loved the lemon almond cake. Amazingly perfect texture and a delicious lemon almond flavor. Service was delightful. We quickly got a table and the staff genuinely seemed to be happy we came in. I got the ravioli on special, and my date got the truffle fettuccine. Both dishes were delicious. Wow. I wish the dishes were bigger! I could have eaten both dishes all day. This time I was celebrating my birthday with my family so we made a reservation for a Sunday evening which I recommend since the restaurant is usually full with on weekends. The menu has something for everyone and lots of vegetarian options along with gluten-free pasta which is great to see them be so accommodating. They also have lots of daily specials and I decided to go with the special ravioli. Our food came out quickly and was delicious! We all enjoyed our dishes and left feeling stuffed. The taglierini may be one of my favourite dishes ever. I came to Lupo for the first time to celebrate a birthday and have since designated it as my go-to celebration spot. After top quality meals in Italy that summer, I was looking to recapture that food quality and found it in Lupo. The vibes are great with the cozy house setting, moody lighting, and upscale atmosphere. Each dish I have there I love, though I never stray from the taglieri, it's just too good not to order every time I go. They have a good selection of rotating specials that are freshness on a plate. I'd highly recommend Lupo to anyone looking for high quality Italian food. read more

Lupo is the most adorable and homey (the restaurant was originally a house and the owner lives next door!!!) Italian restaurant in the Yaletown neighbourhood. There are two levels for dining and the restroom is also located up the stairs by the wine rack (crucial information for the heck of a story I'm about to tell). My two girlfriends and I were celebrating a belated Galentines. We were sat promptly and our server immediately came over to take our drink orders. The server (who also seemed to be the bartender) was kind and humourous and gave me dad joke vibes. While he was making drinks, another server delivered us specials for the night. The food arrived promptly. My friend and I shared the carpaccio, the fettuccine, and the pappardelle special while my vegan gf ordered the taglierini without dairy. I enjoyed the carpaccio as it had quail egg and artichoke to pair which was a unique addition (the wagyu was quite thin though for $26). When the mains arrived, I was impressed by the portion sizes. The Fettucine was truffley, creamy, and delicious! Perfect noodle texture and sauce-to-pasta ratio. However, the pappardelle was just okay - I didn't feel anything was special about the flavour or the sauce but the wagyu cheek was very tender and melted in your mouth. I sampled my friend's vegan pasta and surprisingly, the non-dairy taglierini was good too! Lots of mushrooms on it and although a bit salty for my liking it was still flavourful. Now the night became interesting when I got up to use the restroom. I made the climb up the stairs and while waiting for my friend in the bathroom, I began to feel very dizzy. Before I could figure out what to do, I fell to the ground and blacked out for a very brief moment. The staff were amazing, 2-3 people immediately checked on me and moved me into the office so I could sit and recover myself. One staff member had first aid training and checked my pulse while another member went downstairs to alert my other friend so she was aware. The way everything happened was so seamless and stress-free considering I was super embarrassed that this happened in the first place. Thank you Lupo for great service, food, and apparently also first aid! I definitely will be back to this homey and lovely place. read more

My partner and I were craving some good Italian food so decided to checkout Lupo. I'm glad we had a reservation because it was pretty crowded on the Friday night, we sat on our table as soon as we entered. They have an upstairs and downstairs dine-in space, we were sat upstairs where it was really loud. The tables were very close to one another so it was very difficult to have a conversation, we asked our server if we could get another spot and she was very nice enough to move us. The ambience of the place is cliche, nothing too fancy. My partner is vegetarian so that night we only ordered vegetarian dishes and I was very surprised to see that they had a lot of options. After we placed our order, it took them almost 30mins to get our food and it started with the main course first because our appetizer only came 20mins before we left. (They were nice enough to make the appetizer on the house considering the wait time). For main course we got their Taglierini which had mushrooms, chillies, garlic, and olive oil. The pasta was very dry and did not have much flavour, it felt like something I could've made at home. My partner got their ricotta gnocchi bolognese (but only tomato sauce, no beef) and it was cold so the flavours didn't pop. It was average at best and also felt like something we could've made at home. For appetizer we got their focaccia bread because our server really spoke highly of it but it was subpar, did not feel like we were having fresh focaccia bread. Because our appetizer came so late, I asked our server if we could cancel it and she said "we are paying for it so you should have it" in a very aggressive tone which I did not appreciate. The server although gave us a space when asked and took the appetizer off the menu, was in general pushy and made us a bit uncomfortable with the tone that she spoke to us. It was a busy night so maybe she was overworked? I would give her the benefit of the doubt. Considering the price of the food, I expected something more than what I got. Would I go again? maybe not but if I do go, I will try more of their meat items because I think those seem to be the favourites. read more

First thing we noticed was how slow the service was. Most of the tables around us had no food when we were seated and I first wondered if they happened to have table turnover at the same time. Then I noticed how long it took them to take our order.. and the appetizer to come out... and the meals... and dessert... and the bill.. However, the food was decent and the atmosphere is nice. One of the tables had someone propose during dinner. I think it's a good choice to celebrate a special day. Just make sure to leave at least 2 and a half hours for the whole experience. read more

Another little gem within Vancouver. Perfectly tucked away amongst the urban area, once you enter feels more like it was someone's house rather than a restaurant. A home like feel inside. Our server was accommodating, made a lovely and delicious Mai tai with their open bar just "not inside a carved out pineapple" as he said but it still took me to the islands. The appetizer of meatballs and focaccia were really yummy. The fettuccini is hearty and very flavorful. Would love more of the chicken than pasta. That being said the chicken was so fork tender. The truffle added to the alfredo like sauce really gave it something extra . Probably my favorite was the dessert of apple cheesecake. It was so balanced neither too apple pie like or cheesecake. I've been to Lupo several times now and the food is always fantastic. Ambience is great as well. It's situated inside a townhome and I find it so cute. There's a lot of stairs though. The wagyu carpaccio was delicious and well portioned. Just the right amount of flavour too as sometimes it can be overseasoned/dressed up. The focaccia was like a little pizza with zucchini, tomatoes and cheese. I ordered the beef cheek rigatoni, which was their special for the night. Incredibly tender beef that would just fall apart in your mouth. The fettucine was also great but not as memorable. I've had their creme brulee and orange cake (?) on a different occasion and they were up to the same standard as the rest of the dishes. Unfortunately there's nothing that makes this place extremely memorable for me. Everything tastes good but nothing is so unique and well done that I have to come back to Lupo for it. Still a solid restaurant and one I would recommend to friends but not a must try in my opinion. There was no magic. read more

After my first experience with Lupo (with friends) just over a decade ago, the hubby made reservations for dinner there on my birthday. With an early reservation, my husband and I had a few moments of the restaurant all to ourselves. I am a sucker for homes converted into cafes or restaurants, so I was excited to be returning and imagining what the place may have been like as someone's residence. There were a lot of staff milling around before the place started to fill up (which it did, and quickly). Overall I found the waitress helpful in explaining the specials and answering our questions. On her suggestion, we went with the Lupo Focaccia Bread vs the Bread Basket. Fresh from the oven, it was hot and fluffy and topped with cheese, tomatoes and (I think) Zucchini. It looked like a mini pizza and was a bit more expensive, but I was happy we decided to go with that choice. Husband chose the Taglierini. I have no clue how it tasted, but I will presume it was good...soley based on the speed in which he devoured his food. I decided to splurge on one of the specials, the Wagu Beef Ravioli with mushrooms. It was a delicious and creamy filling, with hints of truffles and mushrooms. I opted for a sprinkle of Parmesan Cheese, which was a nice compliment with the pasta. My husband did a double take when my food arrived because it was only six pieces of stuffed and artfully arranged ravioli. He kept asking me I had enough food. I wasn't hungry by the time I finished the plate, but I definitely wished there were at least a few more pieces of ravioli. Tiramisu was the suggested choice for dessert, since we were told it was Italian and the restaurant definetly knows Italian cuisine. I'm not an expert in desserts, but I did note the Tiramisu was light, fluffy, not too sweet, but a good "confident" taste of espresso. Bonus points to Lupo for topping the cake with a candle (waitress said she got me a bigger piece because it was my birthday). Overall, good for a fancier dinner/special occasion if you are interested in dining in a place with a different ambiance. read more

Wow! Thought for sure I'd be hungry after leaving but definitely filled me up. Started with the Tagliatelle Nero and was NOT disappointed. The prawns were so good, I could have stopped there. But I went into my second course, AAA Beef Tenderloin. This was very good as well. Think more about it, I actually enjoyed my first course better but not complaining. The third course might have been my favorite (my inner fat guy saying that). 70% Chocolate Torte - Caramel Gelato. Thankfully my fiancé isn't much of a fan of sweets so she only had a few bites of hers. So technically, I had 1.5 desserts on NYE. But that's fine right? 2023 = New Year/New Me. So I could have ended the entire 2022 with eating desserts. Lol Service was awesome too. Server was engaged and recommended different entrees from the set menu (NYE Special). It was a fine meal. But I'd say 3.5 stars based on price/quality and imbalance of quality based on dishes. Some dishes were excellent, and some were not. The ambiance was excellent. And it's nice that they do have a kids' pasta for those travelers who have to bring kids. (But a simple olive oil pasta was $32!) The halibut (special) and the pasta with chicken, truffles and prosciutto were amazing. Definitely worth coming here for. The not-so-great dishes were the lobster pasta and the bolognese. The lobster pasta was plain and simple but definitely felt like it was missing something. The bolognese was just okay, definitely my home cooked one is much better. So I went to dinner with someone who is actually Italian and she loves it. She said the pasta is cooked al dente and they used high quality pasta. The sauces were amazing! We literally wanted to lick every plate. We had two of their specials, which were the burrata and seafood ravioli. Their house focaccia is not traditional--apparently more like a pizza. But we did like it! We were disappointed with the tiramisu. It just wasn't up to the refined standards we saw in the other dishes. Service was friendly, and the atmosphere is very cute. Tried Lupo for my partner's birthday and it was a lovely time! Staff was very attentive and friendly: we got the focaccia and their special seafood starter as appetizers. The octopus and shrimp in the starter were so fresh, well cooked and flavourful. The focaccia was gooey on the inside and the vegetables added some tartness and crunch. For our mains we tried their special fettuccine with fresh black truffle and a lobster tagliatelle. This one was not for me as I felt it was lacking in flavour and the truffle was not very strong. The lobster tagliatelle was tasty, but did not stand out too much for me. Lastly, we got the tiramisu. This was one of the best tiramisus I've had in a while - not too sweet or creamy. Loved the ambiance! It was so cozy and lovely. The food was also very good. What wasn't great was the service. Our waitress was nice at first while we took some time with the menus and contemplated ordering drinks. We ultimately decided against it as we had a wine-tasting later in the night. That's when the standard of service noticeably dropped. From then on, we rarely saw our waitress and the food came out very very slow. I don't know if the waitress gave up on our table because we weren't getting alcohol or she was having a bad day but her attitude definitely changed. I think I would come here again and give it a second try as we did enjoy the food and maybe the waitress was just having a tough day. read more

Decided to check out Lupo with a gf last week. The restaurant is inside a house in Yaletown which is a bit different but a cute unique experience. Immediately upon arrival I felt a bit underdressed. I was wearing a trench, jeans, some sneakers and a nicer top. There were definitely some guests dressed similarly but there were also people dressed more formally. To start we had a special salad. While tasty, the portion was very small - about three to four mouthfuls per person, split between the two of us. I had the chicken fettucine and it was DELICIOUS. One of the better pastas I've had in a while. The flavor was exquisite and you could really taste the truffle. My con- would be the chicken it was barely there. It was one very thin slice of chicken placed on top. My friend specifically commented on it and referenced how she thought cactus was stingy but this was much much worse. But the flavor, pasta and other ingredients made it easy to overlook the lack of chicken. We shared the tiramisu for dessert and it was fantastic. The service was also impeccable. The server was incredibly knowledgeable - she explained all of the specials in great detail and I was impressed how one could memorize so much on a daily basis without some notes or stumbling somewhere. read more

For my wifes birthday, she decided she wanted to give this place a try. Given mixed reviews, we thought, why not! The place is operated out of what i am Sure to be an old residence. The feel is very rustic/eerie at the same time. Very intimate and quiet inside. Lighting is kinda dull, but layout was well made. For starters, we thought we'd try the foccacia bread and carpaccio. The bread was very nice. Freshly baked and very different from the dip in olive oil variety. This one was baked with fresh tomato and zucchini. The carpaccio was likewise excellent. Thinly sliced and melts in your mouth goodness. Nicely presented and shaved with Parmesan and drizzled with aioli. For mains, squink ink pasta with lobster, fettucine alfredo, sable fish, and gnocchi with a meat sauce. Now heres where the 3 starts came from. None of the pastas gave us a wow factor. The squid ink was lacking in robustness. You can feel the richness of the seafood. Flavours very weak. The pasta itself was not made fresh but from a package. The alfredo was too lemony and pasta needed to be cooked more. The sable fish was the only stable main that held Its ground. Perfectly cooked and not dry at all. The worse dish was the gnocchi. For some reason, the sauce was made with bell peppers and onions and too much sugar. The dish tasted like a chinese sweet and sour gnocchi. And i know sweet and sour, as i am asian! It was terrible. Coming from a fine dining italian place, the pastas were very average, and the gnocchi a tragedy. I asked my family if they'd ever come back, and they all said no. Not worth the top dollar for sure. Even after i told our server our dishes were just ok, he was probably insulted and just disregarded our honest feedback. Dont know what all the hype is, but this place does not live up to it. Even pepinos is way better. I can name 3 italian restaurants in vancouver who will easily top this place with no effort. Just average fare masquerading as fine dining. Its good. The most full I've been in Vancouver with delicious food! I highly recommend Lupo. The portions are huge packed with tons of flavor. The fettuccine had amazing herbal aromas, the chicken was beyond juicy, and the ravioli was seriously divine. I would also highly recommend the wagyu capriccio. We love the cow manchego Grilled octopus with lima beans - this was the specials too but it should definitely be on the regular menu. Late post as we dined here last summer. I chose Lupo to celebrate our anniversary as I had dined here years ago and remember it being a romantic restaurant. It's a cozy atmosphere and feels like you're dining in someone's house. When we arrived I was greeted by name as I had made the reservation, specifying that we were here to celebrate our anniversary. Unfortunately the service quickly declined from there and I didn't feel like they appreciated our business at all. There was a rosé that a BC winery made specifically for their restaurant and we tried to order a bottle, but they were out. This was disappointing as that was their only rosé on the menu. We ended up ordering a bottle of champagne instead. The wagyu beef carpaccio was a good starter. We also ordered the octopus mosaic, and I remember it being too sour. I love mushrooms so we ordered the taglierini, which was my fave dish. The kitchen split it onto two plates as we were sharing everything. The server was pushing their special of the day, which was a ribeye with truffle. I LOVE truffle, so we went with this recommendation. This dish was a HUGE let down. Shortly after the ribeye came out, the server rushed by and shaved some truffle onto it. He apologized, saying "the kitchen forgot to add the truffle." Seriously...wasn't impressed. It was also overcooked, but we're not the type to complain, especially since the server seemed distracted all night. After that unsatisfying, overpriced meal I was ready to leave, but my partner wanted to stay for dessert. We had the house made tiramisu, which was ok. I was again disappointed that they didn't write "happy anniversary" or even acknowledge our anniversary the entire time we were there.
