saw a post about social corner's 10th birthday with 50 percent off entrées, all day, march 2nd and 3rd and immediately wondered if it was too good to be true. booked the reservation anyway and turns out it was very true and very delicious. we scored a cozy booth and started with happy hour drinks, white sangria and russell punch bowl and the calamari, lightly battered and flash fried baby squid with jalapeño, homemade tartar, and chipotle aioli. crispy, tender, and gone in minutes. we both ordered the limited quantity burger, 8 oz in house ground organic alberta beef on a brioche bun with melted fontina, truffle aioli, syrah caramelized onions, and crispy shallots. thick, juicy, and absolutely worth the hype. he went for the truffle fries which were crisp, and dangerously addictive and i chose the caesar salad which was fresh and bright and made me feel slightly responsible. i didn't finish my burger, to make room for dessert and decided to share the tiramisu. our server ceremoniously poured espresso over top and it felt like dinner and a show. ambience was on point and our server was on top of her game. michelin recommended, and i get it. happy tenth birthday and thank you for the sweetest little impromptu date night. we left very full and very happy. read more

We came here for happy hours last week, and when I asked for happy hour menu, we were pleasantly surprised to find out they offer 25% discount on the regular menu during the happy hours! We ended up ordering 2 tapas and a seafood paella. Jamon Iberico de Bellota Loved the Spanish cured ham, just wish they'd offer more bread pieces or melons to go with this yummy melt in the mouth iberico ham! Garlic flatbread The aroma of the garlicy flatbread can turn heads, in a good way! Love the chewiness of a good sourdough flatbread, I would order this again if I come back. Seafood Paella This is not bad but also not like what I had in the past at other restaurants or in Europe. Overall, it was very salty, and the heavy seasoning overpowered the delicate, delicious flavor of the seafood. Service & Atmosphere The restaurant was extremely busy during happy hours. Our waitress was rushing around the whole time, and we had to wave at her a few times just to get her attention. However, whenever she came over, she was incredibly friendly. She took the time to ask how we liked the food and if we needed anything else. Overall, this is a restaurant with a great atmosphere, even though the food we ordered wasn't particularly outstanding. ***Update 03/09/26*** There's nothing sadder or more disappointing when a beloved neighborhood restaurant (or store) lets you down. Such is the case with Social Corner. I have frequented this restaurant many, many times since moving to Yaletown as I love the food and the ambiance. It's one of my regular go-to places to bring out-of-towners. There's much to love about the menu, the decor, the patio and the servers - all consistently good. But last week, SC let me down big-time. Here's what occurred: SC was planning a two-day celebration to mark its 10th anniversary. All items on their menu were advertised as 50% off, all day, on March 2 and March 3. What an amazing deal! This special was heavily advertised at least a week in advance. I subscribe to a lot of Vancouver newsletters about upcoming events, and food and hospitality news, and this event at SC was advertised on all the platforms I subscribe to. Even on my personal Yelp group chat (a bunch of us Van Yelp elites), this event was highlighted. So... lots of advertising about this amazing special! In late February, my daughter and I booked a table for March 3 in the mid-afternoon, and for days we pored over the menu online, discussing what we'd order (we were drawn to the seafood paella, for sure!). We both were really looking forward to this meal! One hour before our reservation, I received a text on my phone and an message on Open Table that the restaurant suffered a water pipe break and, as a result, had to close the place for the rest of the day. All reservations were cancelled. My kid and I were SO SO disappointed but, hey, we understand, these things happen and are unforeseeable and out of anyone's control. The timing was just really unfortunate for us. I was hoping to get word from the restaurant that they would honor their special pricing deal for us (and all the other diners whose reservations were cancelled, due to no fault of ours/theirs). But no. Not a peep. So I emailed the restaurant, a very nice letter (if I do say so myself!), describing how my kid and I were looking forward to our meal there for days, saying how we're big fans of their restaurant, and asking if they would honor their special pricing for us. Well, today is March 9, nearly a week later, and the restaurant never even bothered to respond to my email. Crickets. It makes me wonder, if this is how they treat their regular patrons, well, they can't value us that much if they don't even reply to their emails. I worked customer service for nearly a decade and any reputable place wouldn't have even waited for patrons with reservations to call or email, to ask for any specials to be honored in such circumstances. We'd have been all over that, telling patrons when we first notified them of the cancellation, that any coupons or discounts or specials would be honored for a meal in the future. And surely, if someone contacted us after the fact, we would never ignore their call or email! JUST....WOW. So my advice to anyone reading this: if you are planning a special meal for a special occasion, and you book a table for SC, it'd be wise to have a back-up plan, just in case. read more

Had a wonderful time here with my friends for Sunday HH. Apparently it's HH all days of the week here in Vancouver. This place is very cool with both indoor and outdoor seating. The inside decor is simply but yet elegant. High ceilings and with great vibe. we sat outside on the sidewalk and it was great of seeing people walking and with the warm sunshine shined on us on a nice Easter Day. The service are excellent, so friendly, lovely and very attentive. The foods are good and with the HH prices, can't complain at all. Simply delish. Drinks are excellent, we support to drink a bottle of wine and a cocktail and coffee and several HH dishes but ended up with 3 bottles, 2 cocktails for each of us, and 2 coffees, yup it was great, especially when you're with great people. read more

I've driven by this place so many times, I never really thought about trying it until someone else mentioned it me. I was attending a show one Sunday night, and decided to go here for an early Happy Hour Dinner. The place looks impressive. It feels upscale with the decor, high ceiling and chandeliers. We were seated by the window. We tried the following: - Patatas Bravas (Happy Hour): Very good. Slightly spicy, well cooked, and impressive portion size. - Carpaccio (Happy Hour): Very good. Simple, but nicely done. I liked how the bread wasn't too hard. - Paella: Very good. It's a good serving size, and full of flavours. I was impressed with the amount of seafood on top, and the effort in making it so presentable looking. What didn't have was the crispy bottom layer (socarrat), but still happy with it. - Cherry Pistachio Mousse: Good. The main flavours were chocolate and cherry, with pistachio being less prominent (which I liked). Service was professional, friendly and attentive. What I would expect from a higher-end restaurant. Overall, I really enjoyed my meal. I'm not sure why it has such a low rating on Yelp, so I guess I was lucky. The fact that I went at Happy Hour probably helps, because the dishes were less expensive, and maybe the restaurant was less busy. I would rate 4.5. This is slightly over four stars based on our experience. The hotel recommended based on the burgers which look AMAZING! We arrived around 11:30am and sat on the patio immediately. Very friendly service for the entire visit. After we arrived it was a nonstop flow of people into the restaurant which was evidence of its popularity. We had a pizza and the avocado toast and a side salad all of which were perfect. The pizza was really good and came with a pair of scissors to cut your own slice however you want!! The avocado toast was really good and the goat cheese balls were such a nice little surprise on the salad. All Tolled we were $80 out the door and felt like it was worth every penny. We didn't know and we walked into the cafe but because the cafe and restaurant is connected and is just roped off, we walked from the cafe to the restaurant side to be seated. Immediately right after we sat down, we were offered a choice of sparkling water or regular tap water. We picked the tap water. For my lunch I got the Risotto Burro E Sablefish and my friend got the Margherita pizza. The Sablefish was super delicious. It was nice and oily with lots of flavor. I really liked the grilled radicchio. The risotto was nice, cheesy and creamy. My friend said the pizza was very delicious. The restaurant has an Italian Pizza oven at the back and you can smell the smell of the pizza in the entire restaurant. I personally highly recommend the Sablefish. It was very delicious. Not overly chewy Pepperoni e ricotta - was a bit too oily for me but I liked the chewiness of the dough. The high ceilings, viewable pizza oven station, wine lights, shelves everything was giving to the aesthetic of a classy night out. The food was good. We got the calamari and potato bravas to share, both yummy and gone. The drinks were fun and different. They had something for everything and spins on drinks we had never seen before. For dinner I got the crab and lobster ravioli and it was delicious. We soaked up all the sauce in the pizza crust. The pizza was as expected and great quality. The paella looked beautiful and the seafood was cooked perfectly but the one comment I would make would be the rice was a little dry for my liking. I'm glad we made a reservation earlier as the restaurant got busy during our visit. We were there for over 2 hours, as there were long pauses in between visits from our server. We ordered the garlic flatbread for an appetizer, and I would have liked it if it had more garlic flavour. I think it was the same dough used for their pizzas. Next was the lobster and crab ravioli. There was ample sauce, and the ravioli was large with lots of filling. For dessert, the tiramisu was a large portion and tasty! The service was just ok. With the long pauses, our finished plates sat on the table for a while before someone came to collect them. We had to wait for our drinks to be refilled, to order, and for our food. Each table had a small light, and the server didn't turn it on until midway through our visit. There was a bug flying around our food, which isn't the fault of the restaurant, but was annoying. It ended up in our empty wine glass. When factoring in the service, I would give it 3.5 stars. Come for the food, not great service. read more

I've seen the decor inside the restaurant and the aesthetic food photos on Instagram and I've been wanting to come to per se for a long time. We finally visited on a Sunday afternoon and we were very excited. The interior decor did not disappoint; aesthetic and a perfect vibe for a Sunday brunch. Our waiter was very helpful in explaining parts of the menu we had questions about and provided great suggestions (tartufina) to try. We ended up ordering the seafood paella and the recommended tartufina pizza. The seafood paella was portioned for 2-3 people and although I haven't had many paellas before, I thought the paella at Per Se had a generous amount of fresh seafood mixed into the extremely flavourful rice. The rice had a slight crunchiness to it which added another texture to the dish. The tartufina pizza was delicious! The wood-fire oven delicately roasted the pizza to a perfect crisp, while maintaining the chewiness of the dough. They also ferment the dough for 72 hours which added to the overall mouthfeel and flavour of the pizza. The added sopressata (an extra charge), a recommendation by our waiter, perfectly complimented the pizza. The mix of cheesy Gorgonzola, soppresata, sweet pears and the chilli oil was a combo I would happily have on a pizza again. Dark, moody, and offering an amazing menu, Social Corner was our pick for an evening out with friends. The Yelp reviews really sold me on trying it, with promises of great drinks and good GF pizza. They weren't wrong. While the drinks are pricey as heck, averaging about $21 each, they're delicious and made with top shelf liquor. The beets & burrata appetizer was so good and devoured nearly instantly. And then there's the pizza. The regular pizza vs the GF look very similar, with the outer crust on the regular 72 dough rising just a bit more. Both are soft, thin, and delicious. Truffle fries - bit on the salty side Lamb - dry, not very good Calamari - salty, one of the worst I ever ate Margherita pizza - not bad, average Patatas Bravas - terrible version of Spanish potato Carpaccio - the only dish that I really liked. Overall, my wife and I decided we would not recommend this place. There are several places in Vancouver that are better like the Fish & Company on Granville Island and several others in Vancouver. Came here to celebrate my boyfriend's graduation and this chic restaurant was the perfect place to do so! Their ambiance is great and a huge space. They have a small live pizza making section in the back and grand chandeliers. My boyfriend and his family are vegetarians so we only ordered their veggie dishes, but they did not disappoint. My favourite was their funghi pizza which had bianco sauce, oven roasted mushrooms, fior di latte, and pecorino romano. Who doesn't like a cheese and mushroom combo?? Their pizza portions I would say are good for 2-3 people, it's not super big. The other pizza we got was their Drunken Goat, not the biggest fan of this one but that's also because I'm not a fan of tomato heavy pizzas. My second favourite was their gnocchi al pomodoro, it had san marzano marinara, parmigiano reggiano, and basil. Per Se is known for a lot of things, but one of them is their burger which is touted by a lot of locals as one of the best burgers they've ever tried - thought I would put that to the test for myself and see if it really is as delicious as everyone says. First and foremost: The Burger comes with beef, melted fontina cheese, caramelized onions, brioche bun and truffle aioli as well as your pick of fries/salad/etc. I definitely felt like the burger needed some sort of vegetable like lettuce and tomatoes or even lettuce by itself, with the addition of those caramelized onions and truffle aioli it made the burger a little greasy and overly sweet which I feel like a little veggie action would've cut that down a little + added some crunch factor. The beef was definitely tasty and cooked nicely, but all in all it's an okay burger that was tasty just not CRAZY or blow my mind spectacular.. especially at a price of $36. Service was great though, server checked in a couple times and made sure our water was always filled. Even topped up our coke for us after we drank up the first one without having to ask (refills are free!). And you can't knock on the ambiance, the restaurant itself is extremely pretty and has a old school London-esque bar vibe. 3/5 - Restaurant is nice, but food is definitely overpriced for what it is and how it tastes. Could definitely just go to Bin4 and get the same tasting burger for far less, but if you want the vibes and drinks at a nice bar then it's not so bad. read more

Came in on a Tuesday night, it looked busy enough that we were glad to gave a reservation. Honestly was surprised this place was on the michelin guide. The only unique thing about them was that their pizza came out whole and you need to cut it yourself with ikea scissors. It got old very quickly, I'd prefer it just coming out already cut. We got the fungi pizza, boga boga, and the truffle fries. The pizza was good and I liked that you can see the big pizza ovens they use so you know it's fresh. Again, better if it came cut instead of using scissors. Also $4 for arugula is a crazy up-charge. The fries were alright, nothing special, but not bad. The boga boga was the prize of the night. The broth was flavorful, but light. I loved the seafood, it tasted fresh and cooked perfectly. I liked seeing the different sizes of everything, it felt like it was from a fresh catch. However our server was pretty off putting. She was training someone and the trainee did a lot better job of being welcoming and friendly. Every time she checked on the table she didn't just approach normally, she came in from the side and I'd get a face full of just her eyes. When we booked Per Se, based on a recommendation, I had no idea it was Michelin Guide listed. I reviewed their adjacent coffee spot, Ciclo a while ago, and wondered what the restaurant would be like... now I know. Great location at Smithe and Homer, our group arrived on a rainy evening but that didn't deter a good number of parties from dining outside on their cozy patio. From the moment we arrived staff was helpful and friendly, we were quickly ushered to our table. From start to finish our dinner was great. I and 2 others ordered the Per Se Caesar. I added chicken - my friends salmon, with a side of sourdough. Rigatoni Bolognese was also enjoyed along with Prosecco, sparkling water and a draft beer. They have a large pizza oven and open kitchen on the west side of the building. Meal did not feel rushed, service was attentive and helpful. While we kept it light without dessert, we saw several delicious treats pass by. Despite being a really big room with high ceilings, you don't feel lost, quite the contrary, the space felt cozy. Was expecting this to be a Michelin rated restaurant being just around the corner from my hotel. Opted for the burger at the waiters recommendation. Who knew "Alberta beef" was so delicious. One of the best burgers I've ever had. The meat for the burger is ground fresh daily and it really shows. The texture of the Ruger was amazing; tender, not mushy, but maintained its ability to stick together without falling apart...like a tenderloin version of hamburger. The bun was also delicious The service and ambiance were also great. Thought about going back on the second night of my two night stay. Don't pass up with hummus and flatbread appetizers either. My friend booked a reservation here on our trip to Vancouver and I was excited to see that it was a Michelin restaurant. The ambiance was pretty fancy, the lights are dim here so I imagine it would've been a good date night spot. We ordered their Rigatoni Bolognese and Pepperoni E Ricotta Pizza and were underwhelmed by both. The pasta in the rigatoni was very undercooked but when we told the server, she said that's how it's supposed to taste as it's made fresh in house... I'd like to think I at least know the difference between cooked, al dente, and undercooked but okay. The meat on the dish was okay, nothing special and got sickening after a while. The pizza was better but really nothing stood out about it either. My friend and I ordered these two dishes here because we ordered rigatoni and pizza at Nightingale a few days before and wanted to compare, but the dishes here do not even compete. We came to this restaurant with my husband, who is a senior, and had a very uncomfortable experience. The young host told us they would not accept a to-go order for another hour, even though the restaurant was open and people were eating inside. Their tone felt disrespectful, and we did not feel welcomed at all. I hope the manager of the restaurant teach the hosts how to handle customer service better. read more
