Cute little place and love the inside. Super casual place with good music, food and drinks. Ordered 3 pintxos for $22. The negitoro and kraken were my fave. The sardines are good but slightly on the fishy side for me. Will order the other 3 the next time I there! Had a he watermelon margarita, wish it had more watermelon flavour - a little bland Also had the caparinia - brought me back to Cuba Service was fast and our server was super friendly. I was surprised that their first tip option started at 10% not 18% or 20%! I hate it when the preset tip amount is at 18% forcing me to pay a higher tip % it's undeserved. But this place definitely deserves the 18%!

Loved the atmosphere, almost felt like I was on vacation in Central America. Definitely checking out this location in my hood was a win, and I will be back.

**HAPPY HOUR REVIEW** This place brings back memories of Barcelona, the last trip before the pandemic. The place is named after Mercat de Sant Joseph de la Boqueria, which is a famous historical market in Barcelona. The Hubs and I came here on a Saturday afternoon, and was greeted with a warm welcome. The atmosphere is cozy with '20s music playing in the background (reminds me of The Marvelous Ms. Maisle) We were seated comfortably distant from other guests at one of the bar tables. The bar area is quite stocked with food and ingredients. The chef prides itself on an ever changing menu based on Chinatown's local available ingredients. We really appreciate that as we want rotational menu and hope restaurants adopt menus that fit the seasonal offerings. Normally we don't sing about services, but these guys are great and we love chatting with them. We ordered the vermouth & soda ($5) and Negorni ($9). The negorni was really well done with the blood orange slice adding another flavour profile. Tapas we ordered were: - Deep fried chicken skin ($5): totally deep fried, crispy. Just as expected with a deep fried skin. - Deep fried mussels ($8): not much batter. Decent sized mussels. Good aiole sauce. About 14 mussels. - Padron peppers ($7): the sour cream dip was nice. Peppers that were not overtly fried. - Croquettas ($9): both were great, but our preference is on the salmon as we can taste the flavour of salmon coming out over chorizo. Overall, we really love the atmosphere, the service, the drinks, and the food. We will likely come back again.

Vermouth cocktail $5 special. Nice orange bitters to offset. Staff meal option in corner of menu.

Soft opening. Only two ppl in the place. My date lives close by and wanted to give it a try. Seated at 5:30 at the bar and left at 7:15pm. Stayed for the $5 Vermouth cocktail and a $6 red wine. Noticed that a lot of people stopped to look, but just passing. Pros: - tons of tapas and drink variety (ex wine. Cider. Beer. Cocktails. Sake) - bit of fusion feel w the tapas - tapas are served on bread, but gluten-free crackers and Japanese pickles available - staff are friendly and knowledgeable - theres a "staff meal" option where they prepare off-menu house entrees (no set items) - was offered samples of Spanish cider which is like kombucha w a bit of fizz and 13p alcohol Notes: - free parking on the smaller streets past Gore. Watch out for permit only signs.

We decided to try this place out one night, as we had driven by several times before and saw the Pintxo sign out front. I was very excited as we had just come back from Barcelona and fell in love with all the pintxo places there! Unfortunately I was pretty disappointed. I was expecting it to be better, as I had read other people's reviews and their food photos looked great - it looked promising. I asked one of the staff about their sangria, he said he tried it and it's awesome so I ended up ordering one. It was pretty bland with a couple pieces of fruit thrown into it. It tasted like it was missing something? Their pricing on their website is different from their chalk board menu in restaurant, I guess they haven't updated recently. They are charging $6 a pintxo, that's pretty steep! There's a option to order 5 for $26 but that's still $5.20 each. We ended up ordering the 5 pintxos for $26 and their house ceviche that the server was upselling. For the pintxos we picked the 2 Gilda (anchovy, 2 olives and 2 peppers), 1 kraken (giant squid, manchego cheese and smoked paprika) and 2 west coast Quimet (smoked salmon, cream cheese, honey and balsamic reduction with salmon roe). Gilda was not worth it at all, the kraken barely had a few bits of squid on it, the Quimet was the best one but I can spread Philadelphia cream cheese on sliced bread top it with smoked salmon. It's like eating bagels & lox minus the balsamic reduction. I hate being upsold on something and it turns out bad, which came to the house ceviche. We eaten a lot of ceviche and this was very mediocre. It was really big chucks of fish, it wasn't tender at all and seems like what you get when you overcook fish, kind of a rubber type texture? I hope the quality, portions and/or pricing changes. I would like to see this place more like the pintxos we had in Barcelona! I may give it another try!

Pintxos - 5 for $24 great value: blue cheese and honey, squid and manchego, sardine & red pepper, smoked salmon cream cheese, and ahi tuna

One word - DELISH. I haven't been this excited about a new restaurant in awhile and my bf said he exact same. He had heard about this joint opening back in April but the summers been so busy that we finally had a date night. We decided La Boqueria would be fun as there are few Spanish tapas places in Van. We absolutely were blown away. The service (Paul) was awesome. He knew his food and brews and cocktails! Phil the owner also approached us during the night and was so humble and wonderful to talk to, he's proud of this joint and also so appreciative to have people enjoy it. I ordered the La Boqueria Cesar and my bf had the Basque Cider. The Cesar was delicious, don't even get me started on the garnish!!! Two olives, sardine and two peppers holy ef it was good with a smoky rim too. I can't wait to get it again! We ordered the 5 Pintxos for $24 - AMAZING DEAL. We had the smoked salmon with balsamic and cream cheese, ahi tuna, octopus and manchego, blue cheese and honey, and sardine and red pepper with white fish pate - holy ef everything was so tasty - my fave was probs the blue cheese. The fat and funk of this bite was incredible. We also ordered the baked scallop with béarnaise and it was exceptional! Came with three crostini's that were super fresh and delicious. We finished the eve with a vermouth and soda water for $5 it was a great finish to the night. I want to come back tomorrow I loved it that much. Can't wait to see this place thrive. Telling all my friends.

Blue cheese and red tasting wine

Beer: Good beers on tap - beer for everyone, if you like a lighter or an IPA. I even saw cider on the menu - wish I tried it... Wine: they have a really cool selection of wine. I only tried the red, they were all very well described and lived up to their standards. The server was very knowledgeable in the wines and knew her stuff. She went above and beyond to explain the wines and even show me the bottle. Food: only reviewing the "amuse bouche" style crostini - which were flavourful and full of top ingredients. I could probably eat 6-7 of these. The blue cheese walnut was delicious, really smooth and creamy. Atmosphere: super cute place and nice decor. The chairs were comfy. The bar area is open so you can see the chef make your appies, always fun. Staff: everyone here is super friendly!

Pinxtos and Sake

What a bloody fantastic restaurant. Was wandering china town looking for something new and their alluring jazz caught our attention. Before we knew it, we had tried almost everything on their main menu. Highly recommend the pinxtos set. From the memorable ambiance, to the great service, amazing pricing, and intricate food, this place is a must visit. Would recommend.

The servers that brought out hors d'oeuvres were very friendly, professional, and attentive. The bartender was great as well. She worked efficiently and also checked that my drink was to my liking and even offered to add more simple syrup if needed it. I throughly enjoyed both of my mocktails; blush hour and another drink that isn't normally on their menu that had ginger. My favorite hors d'oeuvre was hands down the scallop. It was perfectly cooked and seasoned. We were offered a 5 course meal, thai soup was amazing. It had a kick to it thay clung to your throat but kept you wanting to coming back for more Chicken and waffles was too battered and salty for me, although I liked the pickled purple cabbage that came with it. The sorbet oalate cleansers was refreshing I had asked for my steak to come really rare and found it to be a bit overcooked. The texture seemed slightly different too. I would have enjoyed this more if there was a bit more sauce. Thr mashed potatoes were delicious and so were the Brussel sprouts and garlic carrots. Dessert was chocolate mint pot de creme. I normally don't like pot de creme but I will say that theirs was pretty decent.

Good wine list! Hubby switched to a negroni that he liked and I had more wine but this time late night happy hour had started which was a nice treat! We ordered the Dolce de leche dessert and the kitchen was lovely and gave us both desserts on the menu as a bday treat. The rice dessert was incredible - it was like sticky toffee pudding but with a rice base. The caramel sauce was killer! It blew the dolce dessert outta the water. The service was also kind and attentive! The music choices were odd for our night, I love vinyl and collect it myself but just wasn't feeling the vibes that evening, it was a lot of house style music and the same beat over and over with no lyrics. Some folks loved it tho and had asked to move closer to the speaker so to each is own. The tables are also really close to your neighbor so you catch quite abit of convo around you and it's a touch distracting especially when it starts to get little loud as the room is small. It was fun to people watch though.

Ordering style was interesting, after we ordered our small plates we were ready to select our main courses but the staff just took our menu away and we had to ask another server to put in our main entrees. I understand they were busy so they may have assumed we were done ordering but it was a bit of an off putting experience. Overall food was good, the bread was divine. The highlight item for us was the tuna tar tar with chinese donuts, the chili crips totally brought the dish together. Everything else was pretty good, but wasn't amazing as I hoped. The citrus notes in the canton noodles threw me off and the chicken liver mochi balls felt more like a dessert dish than an appetizer for some reason. Highlight was having the DJ also be one of the servers!! Love the vibes that Bar gobo had, definitely a good date spot. Will have to come try it out again next season.

We sat at the bar and enjoyed chatting with Taku and watching him prepare drinks. They have an impressive cocktail list. The bar stools didn't have a backrest so it was a bit uncomfortable after awhile, I would've preferred sitting at a table. We started off with the June brioche and it was pillowy soft. Foie gras was their feature of the evening and although it was delicious, we were told it was cooked, but it was prepared as a cold dish. The crispy eggplant with tomato base was tasty. The mussels were incredibly fresh, topped with petite frites. Pasta for Rachel is named after the chef's wife and it was rich and addicting with potato filling. The only dish I didn't care for was the Fraser Valley chicken as it was a bit dry. I normally don't care for chocolate mousse but really enjoyed this one. They even added a candle for my birthday and gave me a mini ice cream cone.

I loved the scallops. They were perfectly cooked. The sauce that it came with was so delicious that I literally drank it all up. It would have been perfect if they made a soup version of it. The Hamachi Crudo was also delicious. It was very fresh and tasty. The Frog Legs were surprisingly really good. They were deep fried and tossed in what I would consider to be a sweet chili sauce. The Beef Tartare and the Striploin didn't have much flavor. We upgraded the fries that came with the Striploin to truffle fries for $20. The additional $20 was a bit ridiculous, but it was nice to try. They had tons of truffle in the dip. The Trout Rilette surprised me by how good it was. It was packed with flavor and was slightly smoky. I enjoyed the Crispy Eggplant, although it was on the smaller side. It got soggy quickly, so I recommend eating it quickly. The Brussel Sprout Salade was served slightly warm. I liked the slight acidity of the dish. The Mussels were unique. The petite fries were slightly spicy. The sauce was good but could have used a touch more flavor. The Pasta for Rachel was disappointing. It didn't have much flavor. However, we really liked the Butternut squash and truffle ravioli. It was slightly sweet. I would have much preferred a double portion of this, instead of getting the Pasta for Rachel. The customer service was really great. The staff checked up on us and took the time to explain their menu. I found the restaurant to be a bit too dark for my preferences, but it was still acceptable. 4.5 stars
