another long review from me?!? what a surprise! bday dinner #2 with the besties i chose the place but clearly we're all just happy to drink. we made it for tappy hour and i have no idea why but i ordered beer lol. I HAD MORE WINE LATER SO DONT WRY. we were originally going to order flights but we changed our minds lol we were supposed to have another frd join but there were some childcare issues so she didn't make it. we ordered a crapton of food because...we were sort double-fisting it at one point lol. our waiter was super funny as well - he was cantonese as well so we totally bonded LOL for appies, we ordered the squid, brussel sprouts and terrine rabbit and prosciutto. they were all delish and ofc s ordered olives since she loves them. the rabbit was a bit hard to cut into - which our waiter did warn us about - but other than that, it went well with the baguette that they gave us. brussel sprouts were crisp and savoury as it had cheese with it. the grilled squid was light and not tough. we then ordered real food (and 2 more drinks) after we realize that the frd couldn't make it. there was a little accident in which p knocked s' drink by accident. it was just...hilarious. our waiter may or may not have judged us at that point. for entrees, we had the mushroom ravioli and beer tartare. THE BEEF TARTARE WAS THE BOMB. it's freshly made right after you order. the chips, the quail egg, the plate - just noms. the mushroom ravioli was very flavourful as well - i loved the sauce that it came in. p is alr planning to go back monday for tappy hour all night so.....

If Herman's is a belated review.. than mine is truly belated by all instances. This has somehow become almost a weekly hangout, almost... time permitting as the unfortunate thing of finding a place to sit in downtown is the fact that this place does close at 12AM on a Saturday. Other than the closing of time, there is a lot to like about this place. I'll always remember the first time I was here, the waitress created some conversation with me, and asked me why did we choose this place to come wet our throats.... 'No Douchebags', clearly anything North of Pacific Blvd is fair game for the DB's but somehow they do not end up here.... well not yet, here is crossing my fingers! I will not go further into discussion about the definition of the DB, you can refer to Herman's review on that, what I will say is that if you are looking for a place to relax, have a glass of wine, have some small plates of food and not break the bank, come here. You can actually have a conversation as the music is not turned to the upper dial. Aside from the crowd that is in here, or sometimes if you are lucky, no crowd at all, the staff here is great, and the one who helps me out (Stacey) always is attentive and knows her drink and food in this place. Just looking at the wine menu, on the left side are 'old world' wines, and the right... new world. I haven't ventured into the white's, but I have hopped back and forth from old and new world red's. If you are not into wines, don't worry too much, it's practically a full on bar, as when you are looking for the washroom you have to go through Provence restaurant next door. If you are looking for a place with some daily deals, this place has it as well... just remember, the food is coming from Provence as well, and it's very affordable. I wish there were more places like this, at the same time there are not. In the warmer months, the patio and glass doors are open wide, and the view of the boats parked along False Creek are a calming sight. Always a good, calming time here with a well dressed crowd. Have a drink, have some food, have a good time.... and no DB's... phew!

Updated review: Friday night dinner and vino! Service and food were superb. I love that I can read the wine menu and pick out a couple wines, then ask my server to suggest wines I would like based on my taste, and he is able to recommend the same wines. They really know their wine!! Food is fresh and displayed beautifully, flavor at rich, I highly recommend both the Mozzarella/tomato salad and the muscles. The salad for $8 but was a decent size. The muscle were $17 and a bit smaller than I was going for, but so delicious. The broth was a white wine and garlic cream. I paid a couple dollars more for some bread to dip. The bread was Foccasia style and super fresh. It was the perfect choice for soaking up my tasty broth. A plethora of wine options...... so fantastic. I love the Cannonball Cab Sav. Its a wonderful full bodies red with a pepper bite, but very smooth. Must try. Smaller portions here so FYI. I have decided to go with three stars and then go back during their tapa Tuesday/happy hour day and then I may adjust. If I could rate beverages and food separately, 4 stars for wine 3 stars for food. I came her last night with a couple of friends for tapas and wine. There is a small patio on the walk way which is right near the sea wall at the end of Davie street at Marina side Crescent in Yaletown. I wish you could see the water from the patio, but it's a nice little patio either way. I had a wonderful glass Itilian wine *Le Masciare Campi Taurasini Anglianco Irpinia. $16/9ounce. A very nice, peppery wine, that was a great suggestion by our server! The service is 4 stars. Two nicely dressed servers tagged teamed our service. Very prompt and friendly. I did ask for extra napkins, because I made a mess ;) and never received them. Okay, onto the food. We ordered meatballs, stuffed peppers, gnocchi and he BF had the spaghetti and organic beef. I get super stoked when "nice" places have meatballs, because usually they are the most flavorful thing u have had in a while!! These were just ordinary. The peppers weren't anything amazing either. The gnocchi was cooked perfectly but the sauce and other Ingredients were kinda bland. I am used to flavorful and rich gnocchi. I am going to come back on a Tuesday for their happy hour all day, day and try more food out. Second chances are importantly! Came back for happy hour. Great wine for $5!!! No happy hour food! Ordered meatballs again, very good. $17 seafood dish was not worth it. Great for the vino! Need happy food!!

    12 tapas for only 40$!

This is a great place to go late at night to get their specials after 10pm for the 10$ tapas for three dishes. it is really a great deal! I highly recommend it for anyone who wants to go out, enjoy a glass of wine and have small eats if you haven't had a normal dinner or you like nibbles. This is affordable and great, nice decor, great ambient lighting and good atmosphere. It is right by the seawall in Yaletown w plenty of street metered parking. I think if you are coming after 10pm don't worry about parking, there's plenty of it to go around in the area. I came here twice already. Sometimes the waiters who are new don't know the menus too well so give them some time to check but they are great w service- always personable, helpful, kind and funny. They try to make your stay the best. John was great- singing Happy Birthday to me w my friends and bringing out my dessert w a candle on the side. Great experience here. I highly recommend the raspberry vinegar imitation drink, the El Petit Bonhomme ( from the old world selection) and the Sarzak ( not sure of spelling), really yummy. As for the nibbles- I would say my top picks include the: - Grilled Squid - Pork Belly - Baby Shrimp and avocado _ Bocconcinni and tomato - Baked eggplant - Pomme frites w truffle oil Enjoy!

3.5 stars This is based on happy hour. Everything is $5. They have a $6 menu too. I think a selling point is that you can enjoy happy hour on the patio and people watch and be watched by people. Server that we had was useful. Food was tasty. Small - esque portions but good flavours and not too salty. Lamb sausage Risotto balls (so so) Grilled avocado and shrimp Bocconici was thick and layered ^.^ Good experience. Nice to try new places. came here for the location.

    Saffron risotto balls.

One of the biggest collection of wine by glass I've seen. It's not the biggest but one of the best collection of amazing wine from the best wine regions in the world. Can't find so many burgundy, alscase and bourdeau wines by glass along with many other Italian wines.

Great value. Tasty euro tapas. Overlooking the marina in trendy Yaletown. Great tapas starting at $5 then $6 then $13 and $18. We had 4 $5 tapas and were totally satisfied. Risotto balls, Bocconcini salad, merguesz sausage? And toasted eggplant. Say hi to Marit our great server. Ask her about her travels ghhhhgggg

The servers that brought out hors d'oeuvres were very friendly, professional, and attentive. The bartender was great as well. She worked efficiently and also checked that my drink was to my liking and even offered to add more simple syrup if needed it. I throughly enjoyed both of my mocktails; blush hour and another drink that isn't normally on their menu that had ginger. My favorite hors d'oeuvre was hands down the scallop. It was perfectly cooked and seasoned. We were offered a 5 course meal, thai soup was amazing. It had a kick to it thay clung to your throat but kept you wanting to coming back for more Chicken and waffles was too battered and salty for me, although I liked the pickled purple cabbage that came with it. The sorbet oalate cleansers was refreshing I had asked for my steak to come really rare and found it to be a bit overcooked. The texture seemed slightly different too. I would have enjoyed this more if there was a bit more sauce. Thr mashed potatoes were delicious and so were the Brussel sprouts and garlic carrots. Dessert was chocolate mint pot de creme. I normally don't like pot de creme but I will say that theirs was pretty decent.

Good wine list! Hubby switched to a negroni that he liked and I had more wine but this time late night happy hour had started which was a nice treat! We ordered the Dolce de leche dessert and the kitchen was lovely and gave us both desserts on the menu as a bday treat. The rice dessert was incredible - it was like sticky toffee pudding but with a rice base. The caramel sauce was killer! It blew the dolce dessert outta the water. The service was also kind and attentive! The music choices were odd for our night, I love vinyl and collect it myself but just wasn't feeling the vibes that evening, it was a lot of house style music and the same beat over and over with no lyrics. Some folks loved it tho and had asked to move closer to the speaker so to each is own. The tables are also really close to your neighbor so you catch quite abit of convo around you and it's a touch distracting especially when it starts to get little loud as the room is small. It was fun to people watch though.

Ordering style was interesting, after we ordered our small plates we were ready to select our main courses but the staff just took our menu away and we had to ask another server to put in our main entrees. I understand they were busy so they may have assumed we were done ordering but it was a bit of an off putting experience. Overall food was good, the bread was divine. The highlight item for us was the tuna tar tar with chinese donuts, the chili crips totally brought the dish together. Everything else was pretty good, but wasn't amazing as I hoped. The citrus notes in the canton noodles threw me off and the chicken liver mochi balls felt more like a dessert dish than an appetizer for some reason. Highlight was having the DJ also be one of the servers!! Love the vibes that Bar gobo had, definitely a good date spot. Will have to come try it out again next season.

We sat at the bar and enjoyed chatting with Taku and watching him prepare drinks. They have an impressive cocktail list. The bar stools didn't have a backrest so it was a bit uncomfortable after awhile, I would've preferred sitting at a table. We started off with the June brioche and it was pillowy soft. Foie gras was their feature of the evening and although it was delicious, we were told it was cooked, but it was prepared as a cold dish. The crispy eggplant with tomato base was tasty. The mussels were incredibly fresh, topped with petite frites. Pasta for Rachel is named after the chef's wife and it was rich and addicting with potato filling. The only dish I didn't care for was the Fraser Valley chicken as it was a bit dry. I normally don't care for chocolate mousse but really enjoyed this one. The sauce that it came with was so delicious that I literally drank it all up. It would have been perfect if they made a soup version of it. The Hamachi Crudo was also delicious. It was very fresh and tasty. The Frog Legs were surprisingly really good. They were deep fried and tossed in what I would consider to be a sweet chili sauce. The Beef Tartare and the Striploin didn't have much flavor. We upgraded the fries that came with the Striploin to truffle fries for $20. The additional $20 was a bit ridiculous, but it was nice to try. They had tons of truffle in the dip. The Trout Rilette surprised me by how good it was. It was packed with flavor and was slightly smoky. I enjoyed the Crispy Eggplant, although it was on the smaller side. It got soggy quickly, so I recommend eating it quickly. The Brussel Sprout Salade was served slightly warm. I liked the slight acidity of the dish. The Mussels were unique. The petite fries were slightly spicy. The sauce was good but could have used a touch more flavor. The Pasta for Rachel was disappointing. It didn't have much flavor. However, we really liked the Butternut squash and truffle ravioli. It was slightly sweet. I would have much preferred a double portion of this, instead of getting the Pasta for Rachel. The customer service was really great. The staff checked up on us and took the time to explain their menu. I found the restaurant to be a bit too dark for my preferences, but it was still acceptable. 4.5 stars
