Went to June on Cambie to celebrate my partner's birthday. The food was exceptional and our favourite dish was the scallops! The atmosphere was very lovely and cozy, and the staff were friendly and knowledgeable. We will definitely come back to try the other items on the menu!

A great spot for celebrating special occasions! My friend and I planned a visit for my birthday, just before June went on to win a bunch of industry awards (listed in North America's 50 Best Bars, Canada's 100 Best Restaurants, etc.), so you'll definitely want to make a reservation. The bright exterior is a stark contrast to the moodiness inside. It's dark, but still very warm and inviting. Service is prompt, and the food and drink is on point. First, I tried the Chura Sour - a refreshing mix of shiso shochu, gin, sake, yuzu kosho, citrus, passionfruit, and egg white. Later, to go with the main course and dessert, I was sold on the Mushroom Old Fashioned and it did not disappoint! Reifel rye whiskey, mushroom amaro, cacao, Islay mist, and a cute mushroom-shaped chocolate wedged into the ice cube! Very satisfying. The food is made to share. For dinner for 2, around 4-6 dishes were recommended. While everything was good overall, it was clear to me which were standouts vs. just decent. Spot prawn salad (special) - I liked having the dressing on the side so you could control the amount you wanted. I feel bad for forgetting the type of dressing, but it was creamy and had a bit of a kick to it. That being said, the succulent spot prawns were the star, as they should be! Hamachi crudo - the fish was top quality! So fresh and buttery! Thinly shaved radishes offered a slightly peppery counterpoint, and the elderflower ponzu brought it all together. Beef tartare - peppered egg yolk, crispy shallot, potato chips - good that it's all mixed for you, but I wonder if there was too much yolk or not enough salt or both, because this tartare just didn't blow me away with flavour. Pasta for Rachel - beurre d'Isigny, comté, pepper - very indulgent! I can appreciate the high quality, imported French butter, but was it worth $40? I don't think so... Chocolate - milk chocolate mousse, hazelnut, Frangelico - lighter than it looks, and that's a good thing! Loved the crunchy layer underneath the mousse. Would like to make a return trip, more so for the cocktails than anything else.

We were a table of 5 and they recommended that we choose at least 10 dishes to share. I generally really enjoyed our experience at June, but there were a few dishes that were disappointing. I loved the scallops. They were perfectly cooked. The sauce that it came with was so delicious that I literally drank it all up. It would have been perfect if they made a soup version of it. The Hamachi Crudo was also delicious. It was very fresh and tasty. The Frog Legs were surprisingly really good. They were deep fried and tossed in what I would consider to be a sweet chili sauce. The Beef Tartare and the Striploin didn't have much flavor. We upgraded the fries that came with the Striploin to truffle fries for $20. The additional $20 was a bit ridiculous, but it was nice to try. They had tons of truffle in the dip. The Trout Rilette surprised me by how good it was. It was packed with flavor and was slightly smoky. I enjoyed the Crispy Eggplant, although it was on the smaller side. It got soggy quickly, so I recommend eating it quickly. The Brussel Sprout Salade was served slightly warm. I liked the slight acidity of the dish. The Mussels were unique. The petite fries were slightly spicy. The sauce was good but could have used a touch more flavor. The Pasta for Rachel was disappointing. It didn't have much flavor. However, we really liked the Butternut squash and truffle ravioli. It was slightly sweet. I would have much preferred a double portion of this, instead of getting the Pasta for Rachel. The customer service was really great. The staff checked up on us and took the time to explain their menu. I found the restaurant to be a bit too dark for my preferences, but it was still acceptable. 4.5 stars

My friends took me here for my birthday and we had a nice evening. Reservations are recommended as the place was packed on a Tuesday. We sat at the bar and enjoyed chatting with Taku and watching him prepare drinks. They have an impressive cocktail list. The bar stools didn't have a backrest so it was a bit uncomfortable after awhile, I would've preferred sitting at a table. We started off with the June brioche and it was pillowy soft. Foie gras was their feature of the evening and although it was delicious, we were told it was cooked, but it was prepared as a cold dish. The crispy eggplant with tomato base was tasty. The mussels were incredibly fresh, topped with petite frites. Pasta for Rachel is named after the chef's wife and it was rich and addicting with potato filling. The only dish I didn't care for was the Fraser Valley chicken as it was a bit dry. I normally don't care for chocolate mousse but really enjoyed this one. They even added a candle for my birthday and gave me a mini ice cream cone.

I was very pleasantly surprised at how good this place was! For 2 of us, we ordered the crab dip and frog legs from small plates and the pasta for Rachel and mussels from larges plates and everything was delicious. I was especially impressed by the mussels and a very close second was the pasta. Everything was incredibly flavourful and had just the right amount of texture. The sauces were paired so well with the dish and felt really balanced overall. Service was friendly and they gave us lots of great suggestions while explaining the food really well. It was a bit too loud for my liking and slightly hard to hear the person in front of me. Prices are on the high end. Without drinks, our bill came to $130 before tips for the 4 dishes. It's clear that there's a lot of attention on the details of the dish so I'd definitely recommend going for a special occasion.

The ambience in this place is so goood, it is definetely worth waiting to sit inside as opposed to patio. The food is great, particularly the mussels and scallops, as the sauces and toppings complement very well. Don't skip the chocolate mousse dessert either!

Came for birthday drinks on Friday evening, 8pm. It was packed! The dining room was full with patrons waiting in the foyer. Luckily, I made reservations online and we were immediately taken downstairs to the basement bar. We ordered cocktails, a beer and fries. Pros: - Service is excellent, by far the best - Cocktails are well balanced and creative - Seating is super comfortable and plush - Vibes: DJ live spin vinyl records later in the evening Notes: - Next time, would be down to try the late night hour menu for drink and snack deals. - Free parking in the residential streets past Cambie St.

We were excited to get a reservation as it's so hard to get one! The cocktails were amazing, we tried a few different ones and loved them all. The food was hit and miss. I absolutely loved the mussels and the sauce complemented the mussels so well I wanted to drink it! I really liked the beef carpaccio with the chips but my boyfriend thought it was too salty. Their famous dish, Rachel's pasta was wayyyyy too oily/buttery (as you can see from the photo) and salty. Service was good!

We celebrated my birthday at June tonight. Our reservation was at 5:45pm, and we arrived 13 minutes early. Upon checking in at the front desk, the hostess informed us that we needed to return 10 minutes later, as it was not yet our scheduled time. Despite there being 5-6 empty tables, we were not seated. We waited for 10 minutes and checked on the status, at which point she stated that we would be seated promptly at 5:45. Once seated, we found the dining room to be quite noisy. We began with the crab dip and mussels, both of which were satisfactory but unremarkable. Our entrees consisted of the evening's features: stable fish pretty good and ribeye steak with chanterelle mushrooms delicious. Overall, I would say this new restaurant is likely overhyped.

3.5/5! I thought it was hard to see inside the restaurant, but the atmosphere was nice. The girl who greeted us at the door and took us to our table was also very kind and allowed us to choose a different spot to sit. Since I am not a big fan of alcoholic drinks, there weren't a lot of options as this is a bar (understandably). I was hoping for there to be more fruit based mocktails, but they all seemed to have some sort of "spiced" element. I ended up getting a Spicy Daisy and I thought that it was interesting as it felt like there were different layers to the drink. I enjoyed the refreshing milky and calamansi side, but was thrown off by the ginger taste. The beef tartare was very well seasoned and it hid the "raw meat" taste so I did like it, though I prefer tartare served with bread. I think I would need to come back here to try their dinner menu and reevaluate!

June on Cambie offered a dark and moody ambiance reminiscent of art deco French nouveau. The theme was evident throughout, with the staff dressed in chic uniforms. The service was prompt and attentive, and despite being at a prime serving time at 6 PM, our drinks and appetizers arrived quickly. Surprisingly, the kitchen even gave us two orders of our truffle eggs, which we didn't mind at all. However, the close proximity of the tables created a lively atmosphere, making it difficult to hear conversations. The menu offered a variety of classic French bistro dishes, including steak frites, beef tartar, prawns, oysters, and mussels. While not groundbreaking, the execution was satisfactory, not exceptional but not comparable to French cuisine. The food portions were generous enough to share, leaving us feeling satisfied. We ordered the truffle eggs, crab dip with spiced madeleines, salade Maison with dijon vinaigrette, pasta for Rachel and steak frites 8 oz, milk chocolate mousse. I would consider returning to June, but it wouldn't be my first choice. While the ambiance and interior design were pleasant, I feel there are better French options available. Ultimately, it's more about the atmosphere than the food.

I feel like I've finally had enough time to digest my upsetting experience at June on Cambie to bring a honest review. The backstory - I've been here twice since their opening; the first time fresh within the month of their opening (pre-Lala), I had such a delightful experience, I decided to celebrate my birthday here the following month. The initial experience: 1st seating, packed, had a wonderful server (tall, slender fellow), food & drinks met and exceeded my expectations. The Drinks: ABC sour - read basic on menu, but the flavors worked so well together! Very smooth, refreshing palette, with just the right amount of punch. Blue Fizz - very sweet, muted spirit undertones, would've considered an extra shot in this one! Verdita Colada - this ones my favourite so far! The Food: June Brioche - the knob butter is really the star of the show. Solid brioche but portion size did not justify price point. Duck w/ frites & salad (seasonal, unfortunately) - this duck was phenomenal. Cooked to perfection - tender, juicy with a worcestershire-y sauce cutting right through the fattiness of the skin. This is also the dish I raved about prior to knowing it was seasonal :( Pasta for Rachel (2 attempts!) - the instagram-made-me-do-it order. I loveee fresh pasta cooked al Dante. 1st attempt, delish! A very buttery sauce base, plump little fillings, served fresh to the table. 2nd attempt, a disappointment. Served with crusty dried edges, nearly sauce free making it very bland. All neighbouring tables were served 'the IG way' with a performative table side butter service and we inquired with our server (a woman, slightly dismissive & irritated, serving a section of the back wall booths) and she clarified that the diner has to request extra butter served for the service, and swiftly left without further explanation. This is not noted on the menu, nor was it mentioned to us by our server upon ordering. Mussels - great sharing dish, portion & serve style. Very saucy and delish with the brioche soaking up the sauce. Mussels pictured from 2 visits included, both dishes look irrelevant to each other. Consistency is obviously a problem here. Halibut - regular menu item (thankful, unlike the duck breast), get the halibut for some kind of stability. Beautiful presentation, incredibly fresh halibut steak. NY Strip steak - classic steak & frites. Frog legs - not the first time having frog legs (pretty pan-Asian protein choice) served deep fried with a sweet sauce equivalent to Korean yangneom chicken, though not meaty enough. Beef tartare - housemade chips were nice, I actually liked the tartare as the drizzle of sauce toned down the gaminess of raw meats. Crab dip w/ spiced Madeline - the Madelines were solid, but the crab is occasionally too fishy to taste (1st attempt) and completely fine on another (2nd attempt). The Experience: A hit or miss? In my opinion in the scene of boutique-y dining experiences, good service anchors down the fort beyond the physical consumables. On any special occasion, like my birthday, to have bad service is literally a cherry on top for reasons to never come back - we didn't even want to bother with another round of drinks, or even do dessert to bear with our sever any longer. Beyond a prettyyy dismissive response to our inquiries, we did start the evening with over recommendations, approx. 2-3 dish each, where the neighbouring table of the same party size was only recommended 1-2 dishes a head, questionable. Perhaps I'd swing in for walk-in drinks, but no more 1-month out reservations, and definitely unnecessary to book for food quality as inconsistent as I've experienced.

Before even walking into the restaurant we were warmly greeted at the door by @officialmaitredsolutions who happily gave us direction on what to do once getting inside. We were seated at the bar as we only wanted drinks and we ordered a Blue Fizz and Chamberzyette- both drinks were tasty! It was pretty packed inside the restaurant with lots a chatter and had the vibes for a good pregame spot on a friday night...however my friend thought it was too noisy inside.

I've always wanted to do something like this but have been a bit nervous to do so but he made the class fun, funny, and so easy! You have the chance to make 3 bespoke artisan cocktails during this 3 hour class, 2 of their signatures and then the 3rd Aaron let us pick! He made it so easy and explained each step well, also how to use the tools properly along with sharing some great tips on shaking, measuring and also the importance of balance in your cocktail. I enjoyed every minute as well as consuming the cocktails after... each so delicious made with their in house liquors. If I had room I would have bought several bottles with me to take home!

Aaron came out as we were looking for Plan B and let us know the event had just ended and they were open again. (5 loud cheers on the street for sure!) I tried both the Kyoto and Wet Work, enjoying them both. They would even work as a blend of one another. My dad accidentally ordered a chocolate martini instead of an espresso martini, and Aaron made it happen. (The entire table loved it! Take that poured over some ice cream and I'd be far too content!) My brother had the gin martini, and while not a fan of gin straight up, it had a nice smooth finish that I could appreciate.

We had the best time at Odd Society, and I am still smiling two days later. Initially perplexed,…read moresince our Uber dropped us off one block away, we had no idea where we were in the dark of the Canadian night. Surrounded by warehouses, did the driver want us to experience a "call of the wild?" However, Odd Society beckoned one block from the corner, and two seats were available at the strange bar. Strange because our view was blocked by a kind of ersatz plastic and wood wagon wheel blocking our view of the servers and bar. It was reminiscent of Utah's Zion Curtain. Later, I was told it was part of Odd Society's Covid protection and helped the bartenders stack things up. Okay, fine, but tear the damn things down. They're obnoxious. Odd Society creates an array of liquors made from ingredients sourced locally by law. It's required by their license. I tried almost all of them, and most were fantastic. Abby and Colin, our servers, were charming, fun, and educational, answering my questions, which became increasingly inane as the alcohol took effect. The distillery also mixes fantastic cocktails, and mine, named Midori, was friggen unbelievable. I had two of them along with my liquor tasting. My Midori was made with a special concoction called Portuguese Sweet Milk, or something like that. It was amazing. I want one for breakfast. The fun kept coming, and I didn't want to leave. Alas, we had reservations at Lunch Lady up the street. We should have stayed at Odd Society. Lunch Lady was a disappointment. Try Odd Society out as both a distillery and cocktail bar. You won't be disappointed about either one.

I have a friend who loves to drink so when he was back in town, I bookmarked this place to bring…read morehim to as I saw many great reviews and pictures. In summary, the place was ok, but noticed after the fact that we were overcharged for the drinks. It's a small space - about 3 high tables, one lower one, each seating 4 to maybe at most 5 people, plus a bar. I reserved a table for the 2 of us at 3:30 pm on a Sunday (earliest reservation they had as they open at 3 pm) and we were seated at 3 pm. They checked our vaccine passports and then seated us. Not long after we were seated, the remaining tables were all taken just after opening for 30 minutes so I would recommend reserving if you prefer tables over bar seating. The waitress brought over a drinks menu and food menu. The menu showed cocktails at $13. We chose our drinks and ordered, then the waitress came by with a second menu that she said was for Sunday only. She apologized and said she normally doesn't work Sunday's so she didn't know this promotional menu was available. This menu had some cocktails on promotion that I would have not minded to try, but I had already received my cocktail. Oh well. I had the Violet and Claire, which looked great and tasted pretty good for the first half. However by the second half of the drink, it started to taste too sweet. It was not bad for a cocktail, overall. My friend said the Smoke Between the Sheets cocktail was alright as well. We got our bills quickly as we had a second place to visit afterwards. After paying, I snapped a picture of the bill at the time but did not notice until I got home that to my surprise, each cocktail was listed on the bill at $14.95. I recalled their physical menu saying $13, and verified this with their menu online. Unfortunately, I did not notice the discrepancy until I was home, otherwise I would have mentioned something. Note that our visit was at the end of November 2021, and at the time I'm writing this review (December 26, 2021), their online menu still has cocktail prices at $13. So, I am not sure if this was a one time mistake when we paid, or if they have just forgotten to update their menu? Either way, this was disappointing. Because of the entire experience I probably won't visit again, especially with all the other options Vancouver has for cocktails.

I have seen a lot of good reviews about this place and convinced our party of 8 to come try it…read moresince it's in our neighborhood and we have been looking for a new local Greek restaurant since Panos on Marine Drive closed down. Sadly, we were sooooo disappointed! We came on a Saturday evening at peak time, around 6:30pm, so granted, we expected it to be busy. We were sat nearly right away in comfortable booths with tables. The waitress brought us menus and water. So far so good! We ordered our food, nothing crazy, several got the special of the night, lamb souvlaki with potatoes rice and pita. A couple ordered the seafood pasta, one asked for red sauce instead of cream sauce and two asked for veggie lasagna's but they only had one order available. When we asked about the beers on menu, we were told each one was unavailable except for Heineken and the seasonal beer. When we asked what it was, she didn't know. She then brought the can of beer over and said she wasn't sure what type it was. Fair enough! She was young, seemed new and not quite trained with alcohol so no big deal. It gave us a giggle. It was a Granville Island radler btw. I ordered a Heineken and my friend ordered the yummy sounding spicy passionfruit margarita. My beer came fairly quick but no margarita. Then the young waitress came out to say that our food would take a bit longer to come out since they were a bit slammed with orders and asked if we wanted any appetizers. We decided we'd be ok, and decided to wait. One hour later!!!!! I'm not joking, one hour later, the margarita drink came out. Again, we noticed very young and probably newly hired staff attempting to make drinks. When this $19 drink came out, it looked like the rim of salt was touched with fingers and a lot of it was missing. However, my friend desperate for a drink or morsel of anything, decided to just have it as it came. She said it was delicious and the best thing she had. One hour and a half later!!! Our food came out. My medium rare lamb was cooked through and the pasta with red sauce came out with a cream sauce, but there was NO way we were going to send anything back as we were pretty hangry at this point. The potatoes were delicious, the rice extremely plain. All 8 of us agreed that for the price, service and quality of food, we would not be returning, although my friend said if the passionfruit drink was on the happy hour menu, she would consider it. All in all, very disappointed.

The servers that brought us our food were great at explaining each dish. The burrata was smooth and creamy. The focaccia that came with it, was huge and had a nice flavor to it. The candied pine nuts and cherry toppings were a really nice addition to the dish. The beef tar tar was tasty and slightly acidic. We had the Elk served rare, and it was delicous, but I didn't liked the cubed pieces. The stuffed pappardelle was soo good. I liked the hint of lemon, as it really elevated the dish. The duck with beet sauce was so nice. The duck had a nice crispy skin. The beets were one of my favorites. They were slightly acidic and sweet. The summer beans were very smooth and not like previous bean dishes that I have tried. The milk buns with butter didn't have much flavor, but the bun itself was nice and fluffy. The Octopus' sauce was so good and the Octopus itself was tender. I found the Maitake a bit too salty for me, but otherwise it was enjoyable. The Lambchetta was our least favorite dish of the night. It was a touch salty and had a hint of hoisin to it. The strawberry mille flavors were good, but the puff was a bit dry. The strawberry gelato was my favorite dessert. The gellee was nice as well. Walk through the forest dessert sounded interesting, but didn't hit the spot. I didn't really enjoy the mushroom flavor. It reminded me of Chinese herbal medicine. The coffee flavor wasn't bad. Our server was great at advising when she didn't think one of the desserts would be good to share as a table. This restaurant would be great for a celebration or date night. 4.5 stars

I didn't realize the restaurant did sushi platters and oysters - what a pleasant surprise! The oysters were delicious. For the sushi I've definitely had better, but was still impressed that the restaurant had this kind of platter available. Portions were really big and among the dishes, the miso cod was a big standout with great flavour and texture. I also enjoyed the matcha tiramisu dessert as it was not too sweet. The staff were very friendly and attentive to replenishing drinks. I believe some of the drinks were made specifically for the event so I'm not sure if any of the ones I had are on the regular menu. However, the drinks were delicious and the 'Ryujin' especially was my favourite one (the glass with dragonfruit garnished over top!) It was fruity, sweet, and deceivingly tasted like tropical juice. I would like to return to experience the restaurant on its own sometime. In the meantime, it's an excellent spot for private events!

We ordered earlier in the day, and the shucker was clearly alert, taking the extra steps to ensure a clean finish. Truffle fries were indulgent and perfectly crisp, though the garlic aioli was milder than I prefer -- almost like straight mayo without a punch. I skipped the sushi wrap, sticking to my traditionalist ways, but my friend enjoyed it. Brownie bites, complimentary as they were, were a disappointment. Lacking enough fat and possibly stored improperly, they tasted a bit stale -- a shame, because how does a brownie not taste good? Our server was attentive and charming, swooping in at just the right moments for round twos and top-offs, which made the experience that much smoother.
