I went for their high tea. They only offer this service on the weekends at 2:30pm and 3:00pm. Their high tea is a bit on the pricey side, but they offer more pastries than the average high tea. I thought their tea box set was very cute. You can open each bottle to smell the tea leaves. I got the lavender earl grey. I couldn't really distinctively taste the lavender, but the tea was still lovely. The food came out really quickly. I was surprised at how small the pastries were, but I was still unable to finish everything during my seating and had to pack some items to go. I enjoyed the fruit scone. It had a slight almond flavor, which made me like it even more. I was surprised at how much I enjoyed eating the crumpet, as I normally don't like them and find them too dry. I added some of their clotted cream and strawberry jam to it and it was delicious. The chicken sandwich was one of my favorites. It was lightly curried. The cucumber sandwich was disappointing. The bread was dry, as if it was sitting out for too long, and there was a hint of lemon, which wasn't really to my liking. The tuna sandwich tasted like a regular tuna sandwich. The deviled egg was really good. I enjoyed the Light smoky flavor. The Salmon tart was also really good. I could have ate a few of them. The macaron had a nice chew to it, but I was unable to distinguish what flavor it was. The strawberry chocolate cheesecake was really creamy and tasty. I just wish it was double the size. The jasmine honey profiterole was another one of my favorite items. It was perfectly flavored. The mandarin tartlette was also nice and refreshing. We headed to Bacchus to try their dine-out Vancouver menu yesterday. As usual we ordered different menus so we could try most of the dishes on the dine-out offer. Overall food was good, but not as refined as some other restaurants in downtown. Presentation was a bit simple, they can improve on that aspect. Entrées were good. I loved the duck mousse. Portion was generous, maybe too much. The seared tuna was also quite good, maybe too many spices on it, it overpowered the lovely taste of fresh tuna. For the main, the beef bourguignon was quite tasty but too big. Portion was over the top for me. The turbot on the over hand was a good size but lacked seasoning. Desserts were the best, my passion tartelette was excellent and the sticky toffee was as it should be. My cocktail was only average. The "love potion" description was intriguing but the mix of flavours was nothing floral or herbal like described. Great seafood platter! One of the best we've had because instead of just cutting up cold seafood, every item was upgraded to provide extra flavour. It's very big as there were two of us and it pretty much filled us for the whole meal. Truffled mushroom risotto was very good. Definitely get this. Prawn and Shrimp Tagliarini is apparently a permanent dish that never leaves the menu. I thought it was ok. Perhaps it's because I was already seafooded out from eating the platter earlier. Service was nice but not special. Restaurant is bigger than I thought and beautifully decorated. This restaurant is located at the Wedgewood Hotel on Hornby St across the street from the Law Courts. The decor is Venetian - classy, timeless & beautiful. Wine connoisseurs will love the vast selection of wines available here. Tim our server & matrie'd extraordinaire was on point with service of pure excellence. Bravo good Sir! For DOV, it's $65pp & you get a choice of appetizer, main dish & dessert. We started off with the Seared Scallops & Duck Liver Terrine. Really enjoyed both of them. Our main dishes were the Maple Glazed Steelhead Trout & the Pork Collar Confit. Both of these items were buttery soft & ahhhh mazing! I was surprised by how full I was as the portions are not huge but extremely filling. When dessert came around I had a hard time trying to eat it. The Chocolate Cake was good, but the Caramelized Apple Tart even better. Bacchus is a classy restaurant but don't be assuming that it's only for the Silver (old, white hair) Fox type crowd. I took my nieces for the Valentine's Day afternoon tea. I usually don't care for most of the food at these things, but I was impressed because they didn't taste dried out and stodgy as many others I have tried. They do give you a lot of food, none of us could eat more than maybe half of what was served, and we all purposely ate very little that morning. Maybe they could consider making their crustless sandwiches with thinner bread so we don't fill up as quickly, but that's a quibble. We all agreed that the chocolate profiteroles were the best thing that we tried. There were several items that we didn't even try. The girls took two boxes of leftovers home to their dad, lol! I ordered the Wedgewood-Tantalus sparkling wine, and was really quite impressed. It's very good quality and even with the hefty markup expected at a place like this, it felt like a good value. Came here for afternoon tea. I got to choose one tea from their list and they brought out a bunch of teas to sniff. My friend liked her earl grey. I got the lychee oolong which I had to use sugar and cream for it to not be so bitter for me. I liked the cheddar scones. They had 3 kind of finger sandwiches. There was a time when fine dining restaurants were intimate, romantically lit, and offered live music that still allowed for conversation. It's been a long time since I've found one, so I was delighted to discover Bacchus. It's everything I loved about dining back in the 70s, but with a modern take on food. There were many highlights to our meal, but I'd have to list the two-tier seafood tower as the best. Unlike other seafood towers, there were a great variety of prepared dishes included along with the usual lobster, shrimp, and oysters--perhaps a dozen selections in total. We loved all of them. The wine list is extensive, and represents nearly every region of the world, although there is no depth to the vintages. Service was friendly and precise. This place is a keeper. read more

Beautiful hotel restaurant with an intimate cozy setting and good food. Went for a birthday as a table of 5 and got seated in a nice spot with a curved couch and chairs. There was a live pianist who also sang and made the atmosphere upbeat yet classy. I thought it was a bit unfitting that the hockey game could be seen on the TV on the lounge side of the restaurant. We all got drinks and some of us shared raw oysters which were good but overpriced. I got the prawn and scallop tagliarini which I would order again and it was the perfect amount of food. We all shared the sticky toffee pudding, espresso tiramisu and the trio of chocolate millefeuille. I enjoyed the tiramisu the most but wished it was larger as among 5 people it was only a spoonful. The service was friendly but very slow. We were there for at least 3 hours and had to wait a bit to order our food and then again later on the night to order dessert. I went with friends to the $65 dinner dine out menu. The atmosphere is great and tranquil. We were seated at the back as the only group table back there. We had an 8:30 reservation though. They had the live piano music which was great. After we chose our dineout menus, there was a round of amuse Bouche which was deep fried cauliflower. It tasted quite salty though. There was also a complimentary bread basket with butter. The bread basket was great. My starter was the duck pate. It was smooth and succulent and came with 2 pieces of toast. It was a rich start to the meal. Then I opted for pork bourgnoie which they made it taste like beef and not dry at all. The portion was quite small but I was getting quite full. For dessert I chose the nougatine dome which was quite rich. Maybe I would've enjoyed it if I was a bit less full. read more

I'm glad that this was my first experience with a Michelin-starred restaurant. However, the Chicken Schnitzel could have used more seasoning in the batter they used to fry the chicken. We sat in the lounge section of the restaurant. Beautiful, sophisticated, and relaxing lounge. It takes you back to a era where life was less complicated and moving at a slower pace. The first of our DineOut Vancouver journey. Started off with a bang with amazing service and fantastic food. Enjoyed that we had an amuse bouche to start with fresh shrimp to whet our palate. Their ricotta mascarpone ravioli trio was amazing. The black truffle beurre blanc added such an incredible depth of flavour! Wow! Their tuna tartare was super delicious and refreshing. For the entree, we had the cache creek farms Bavette... another show stopper which was incredible. Super tender beef with a delicious peppercorn Demi. We had their local steelhead (perfectly cooked and seasoned) as well as their local mushrooms. Soooo good! We ended off the meal with their apple galette, stick toffee pudding and house made sorbets. Food was good, scrambled eggs perfectly creamy. Coffee very good, nice and strong, kudos for that. And nice and hot. I hate lukewarm, weak coffee. None of that here. They leave an insulated coffee carafe which was great, hot refills on demand. The menu was very conservative with standard breakfast fare. Eggs, pancakes, the ususal. Nothing exotic, but solid. They brought ketchup and two fresh jams without asking. Bravo. None of that jam in a plastic tub nonsense. Service was excellent. Perfect amount of check-in without pestering. After a lovely afternoon at the Van Art Gallery with friends, we decided to go for drinks, somewhere nearby, on a recent Sunday afternoon. I've passed the stone arched windows of the Bacchus lounge/restaurant many a time and had always wanted to check it out, so I suggested going there. It's less than a block away from the VAG, right on Hornby, so we got there in less than 3 minutes, literally. Whenever I've passed this place, it always reminded me of a traditional "gentleman's club", from back in the day (i.e. my dad's or grandfather's era). Looking in from the street, it appeared warmly lit inside, with wood panelling, and there were upholstered, plush seats around round tables, one framed in each of the arched windows facing the street. It always felt warm and inviting. In the winter, there was a glow emanating from each of these windows to the street, and in the summertime, each window arch was open, letting the sunlight and fresh air inside. It seemed to beckon me in, regardless of the season. So finally I visited. And I'm happy to say, it did not disappoint! One enters from the main door to the Wedgewood Hotel. Bacchus is the hotel's lounge/bar and restaurant on the main floor. We were greeted warmly and promptly and escorted to our seats: a semicircular plush, upholstered bench and two comfy chairs surrounding a larger, round table in the middle of the restaurant/bar, close to the arched windows. I was impressed to see a large fireplace (which would be awesome during the winter months!) and a piano, too. (Note: there were two piano players who played mellow tunes during the 1-2 hours were were there). Our server was super, and our drinks, great. We shared an order of truffle fries. They were great too. All in all, this was a class act, all the way. Those who know me know I always check out the bathrooms. I find the state of the bathrooms to be quite telling, how a restaurant is run. The women's washrooms here are some of the nicest in the city of Vancouver. Seriously. The pictures I took don't do them justice. The white marble, the mirrored accents, the L'Occitane hand soaps, the individual rolled white towels..... No disposable paper towels here, no sir! High end, in every detail. This is a wonderful place and I look forward returning to actually dine here for dinner. read more

This restaurant is fairly quiet, and has a fancy ambiance but not such that you'd need to get dressed up. Me and my tablemates started with some oysters, which were very good with the cocktail sauce with horseradish. The vinegar was not quite as good as the cocktail sauce, personally. This is definitely a great place for oysters, though. I had the currywurst, which was great, and the fries that came with it were also perfect. Exactly the right crunch level. The currywurst was even pre cut up! Finally, I had mango sorbet for dessert. I can say with 100% certainty that it was made with fresh mango; it was very good! read more

The pizzas are thin flatbread style, perfect for snacking - the funghi is a nice savory option. The halibut tacos were magnificent - comes as a trio and is beer battered, fried perfectly, full of flavor. Extensive drink menu including lovely seasonal Christmas cocktails- the limoncello sparkle and Christmas negroni were both nicely made. Our appetizers were the Tuna Tartare, Hamachi Crudo, Podere Dei Leoni Burrata, Foie Gras Torchon, and Oysters. The shrimp clubhouse is just delicious! In the past, I've had a number of amazing meals from this menu, it really is hard to go wrong. Servers are attentive, Not quite as warm and charming as in years past, but the world is changing. No complaints here. And love that the in parking stupid Vancouver, they will valet your car!! Took my parents here for the Christmas lunch. Our reservation was at 1pm but we didn't get seated until 1:30pm because the service was running behind, which was understandable. The service seemed a bit disorganized because we didn't know who our server was therefore waited for a good 20 minutes before being able to put in our orders. Food wise everything tasted great, but I did notice some inconsistency in plating (some looked better than others and some missed certain components). I was there for lunch at the beginning of June. High expectation because of restaurant's reputation and the "Michelin 2024" plaque outside. Extremely disappointed with my meal. My burger was very oily. While wiping my lips as I ate, I had to take care that my linen napkin (on lap) did not transfer oil stains onto my white dress. I ordered crème brûlée for dessert. It arrived in a very shallow ramekin. While it had a nice sugar topping, the crème brûlée was not set in the least. It was very runny and there wasn't much of it either. I used a spoon and scraped the bottom of the ramekin for the bit that was there. What a letdown! read more

If you want a romantic venue where the lighting is soft and flattering, the music unobtrusive and you can actually have a conversation and hear the other person, then the Bacchus beckons! We have been celebrating special occasions at the Wedgwood for the past two decades. It was pre-Christmas and there seemed to be insufficient waitstaff with unusual delays. The amuse-bouche was not at all amusing. It lacked its usual WOW factor. For the first time ever, I had to send my main course back. I had ordered the maple glazed Brome Lake duck breast. The meat was actually tough. As duck is always challenging to cook, I did reorder the duck breast. It did not arrive in a timely manner. In fact my partner had finished his dinner. The replacement dinner was nothing short of amazing, making your taste buds dance! Apparently it was the new chef's night off. Being a small eater, I was unable to finish the now generous amount of duck, so asked for the remaining food to take home. Our bill was over $350.00 (my partner does not drink alcoholic beverages). The wait staff brought a box to the table. This seemed so incongruous in terms of ending a fine dining experience, not to mention "tacky". Given this is the first negative dining experience, I am still a huge fan of the Bacchus Restaurant and will return in the near future. read more

Came for lunch on a Thursday. We were seated promptly as we had reservations. The lounge wasn't very busy but people kept coming in and out. Service was really good as they were very accommodating to our requests. But it took awhile for them to take our orders which prolonged our lunch. I had the espresso martini and I didn't really think the coffee was strong enough. I had the foie gras parfait as an appetizer and it was definitely the highlight of the whole meal. My biggest disappointment with this dish is that the slices of toast were too small for the amount of pate provided. I had to take some bread from the bread basket to finish it off and I was already piling it on. The jelly on top helped cut the greasiness of the dish. I didn't really think the canned orange was necessary for the fish. I had the burger with Cobb salad as my main. The burger was pretty thick and has a lot of onions in it so be warned. The onions and tomatoes were really fresh. The biggest issue I had with this dish was that the patty (very thick) was too dry. It was cooked all the way which I don't mind but it was just dry. The bun was okay but I would have preferred a milk based brioche bun. The Cobb salad was okay. I failed to realize that it was a blue cheese sauce. I personally don't like blue cheese but the blue cheese here wasn't too strong (unless you bite into the pieces of blue cheese). There was also a bit too much sauce for me. We had three desserts to share - sticky toffee pudding, Japanese chocolate souffle and chocolate banana Dome. All of the dessert were on the sweeter side so be warned. The sticky toffee pudding was really soft and served warm with a vanilla ice cream. I think I tasted bites of dates in there but I could be wrong. The added popcorn have it that crunch and also made it visually appealing. The popcorn tasted a bit stale. Would have liked it if the caramel popcorn was a bit cruncher. The Japanese chocolate souffle wasn't really a chocolate souffle it was more like a chocolate ganache. Very rich and dense. I liked the balance that the sour ice cream gave it. But the yellow sauce on the bottom didn't add anything to the dessert other than a visually component. The banana Dome was the least appealing visually. It was the least sweet of all the desserts. I liked the crunchy praline on the outside. You can taste the chocolate and the banana in this dish. The textures of this dessert was really good and well balanced. Overall, would recommend the parfait along with a drink (maybe a wine) and a salad. They use decent produce and the service is pretty relaxed. Delicious food and excellent service made for a perfect anniversary dinner. The staff was attentive and made sure we enjoyed our dinner even as we neared their closing time. I wish I had written down our servers name, because he was great. As a vegetarian it's often hard to find restaurants that go beyond checking a box to offer a vegetarian dish vs. making the effort to add real flavor, but Bacchus' vegetarian dishes were all fantastic. We had the Burrata, Cauliflower dish (for me), Trout (my husband) and sticky toffee pudding. Everything was so good, including the complementary amuse-bouches. read more

Bacchus has a lovely atmosphere with live piano entertainment, and its service was phenomenal. For the starter, we tried several appetizers. We voted Foie Gras & Duck Rillette as the most outstanding appetizers. It was a work of art! It was delicious. It was savory and smooth. For the entree, we had Fire Roasted Half Rack of Lamb and Porcini Crusted "AAA" Alberta Beef Tenderloin. They both were delicious. We had Beef Tenderloin in medium rare on the rare side. It was perfectly cooked and full of flavor. I am a fan of the potato mille-Feuille, so I would say I slightly liked the Beef Tenderloin more than the Rack of Lamb. They both were five-star entrees. This truly is an award-winning restaurant, the food was outstanding and the ambiance is just as good. Bacchus is run by Executive Chef Montgometry Lau.
