Bar Gobo has quickly become our favorite spots in Vancouver. We currently live in LA but whenever we visit Vancouver, we always make it a point to to hit them up! They focus on natural and biodynamic wines that pair beautifully with their dishes. Peter is always a fantastic host. We usually opt for the pre-fixe menu and we ask him pair wines with each dish. His knowledge and passion for food and wine is evident and always lends to a phenomenal experience whenever we come here. Curtis was very friendly and helpful as well. It is evident that Bar Gobo has an amazing team that delivers a well-rounded dining experience that has us coming back for more. Standouts include their Heirloom Paradise Heirloom Tomatoes (so good we almost ordered it again!) Oven Roasted Ling Cod, Farm Broccoli with a Shio Koji Beurre Blanc, and their Chocolate Olive Oil Cake. Shoutout to Chef Neil for killing it in the kitchen! 5 stars all around for Bar Gobo. Big things coming for them! Don't sleep on this one, guys.

Small wine & vinyl bar with fantastic ambiance and a team of bartenders who really know their stuff! The music and vibes here are great. I told the server what wine I typically like and he brought out an amazing bottle. I loved the beets & burrata too, wish I could've tried more here!

We had a fantastic meal at Bar Gobo! Asian fusion flavours from Korean Chef Jiwon Seo (formerly from Burdock & Co). We tried their July 2023 three-course prix fixe tasting menu $65 per person. There were two options per category (appetizer, main, dessert) and we ended up ordering one of each option to share and have a taste of everything. Portions were generous and we were very satisfied after the meal. Appetizers: Option 1 - Zucchini (our favourite) Option 2 - Humboldt Squid Main: Option 1 - Ling cod (our favourite) Option 2 - Pork loin Dessert: Option 1: Raspberry, white chocolate mousse, shortbread cookie (our favourite) Option 2: Mugwort - farro cake with toasted rice cream We also added the burrata to start which was one of the best burratas I've ever had - it was drizzled in chili oil which added a unique flavour combination. The space is small and intimate with limited seating, reservations are highly recommended. The kitchen is actually part of the front bar, so if you want to get a view of the chef and sous in action, bar seating is your way to go. Service was friendly and fantastic!

The servers that brought out hors d'oeuvres were very friendly, professional, and attentive. The bartender was great as well. She worked efficiently and also checked that my drink was to my liking and even offered to add more simple syrup if needed it. I throughly enjoyed both of my mocktails; blush hour and another drink that isn't normally on their menu that had ginger. My favorite hors d'oeuvre was hands down the scallop. It was perfectly cooked and seasoned. We were offered a 5 course meal, thai soup was amazing. It had a kick to it thay clung to your throat but kept you wanting to coming back for more Chicken and waffles was too battered and salty for me, although I liked the pickled purple cabbage that came with it. The sorbet oalate cleansers was refreshing I had asked for my steak to come really rare and found it to be a bit overcooked. The texture seemed slightly different too. I would have enjoyed this more if there was a bit more sauce. Thr mashed potatoes were delicious and so were the Brussel sprouts and garlic carrots. Dessert was chocolate mint pot de creme. I normally don't like pot de creme but I will say that theirs was pretty decent.

We sat at the bar and enjoyed chatting with Taku and watching him prepare drinks. They have an impressive cocktail list. The bar stools didn't have a backrest so it was a bit uncomfortable after awhile, I would've preferred sitting at a table. We started off with the June brioche and it was pillowy soft. Foie gras was their feature of the evening and although it was delicious, we were told it was cooked, but it was prepared as a cold dish. The crispy eggplant with tomato base was tasty. The mussels were incredibly fresh, topped with petite frites. Pasta for Rachel is named after the chef's wife and it was rich and addicting with potato filling. The only dish I didn't care for was the Fraser Valley chicken as it was a bit dry. I normally don't care for chocolate mousse but really enjoyed this one. They even added a candle for my birthday and gave me a mini ice cream cone.

The sauce that it came with was so delicious that I literally drank it all up. It would have been perfect if they made a soup version of it. The Hamachi Crudo was also delicious. It was very fresh and tasty. The Frog Legs were surprisingly really good. They were deep fried and tossed in what I would consider to be a sweet chili sauce. The Beef Tartare and the Striploin didn't have much flavor. We upgraded the fries that came with the Striploin to truffle fries for $20. The additional $20 was a bit ridiculous, but it was nice to try. They had tons of truffle in the dip. The Trout Rilette surprised me by how good it was. It was packed with flavor and was slightly smoky. I enjoyed the Crispy Eggplant, although it was on the smaller side. It got soggy quickly, so I recommend eating it quickly. The Brussel Sprout Salade was served slightly warm. I liked the slight acidity of the dish. The Mussels were unique. The petite fries were slightly spicy. The sauce was good but could have used a touch more flavor. The Pasta for Rachel was disappointing. It didn't have much flavor. However, we really liked the Butternut squash and truffle ravioli. It was slightly sweet. I would have much preferred a double portion of this, instead of getting the Pasta for Rachel. The customer service was really great. The staff checked up on us and took the time to explain their menu. I found the restaurant to be a bit too dark for my preferences, but it was still acceptable. 4.5 stars

They've a lovely patio facing the seawall, and especially in the summer, it looks so inviting, and patrons often bring their dogs, and I just love the whole vibe. In the winter, too, it always looks like people are enjoying themselves here, with the warm lighting and twinkling lights. Since this wine bar is attached to the restaurant Provence, I've often passed here and heard live jazz musicians and singers who perform certain nights of the week, and man, they sound GOOD. It just always felt like this would be a super place to mellow out, have a glass of good wine, relax with friends, either on a summer day or at night, any season. I finally got to check it out in person today. I went with a friend for a drink mid-day, sitting outside. The weather was lovely, and it was a perfect day. Carmen was our server and she was great. I appreciated how knowledgable she was regarding all the wine and cocktail selections. My friend had a glass of white wine which she loved, and I had an amazing cocktail with lavender and rose. They have a decent happy hour selection which, unfortunately, we were too early to partake of. Their regular wine menu is extremely extensive. What a great neighborhood place! Will definitely return.

My second drink was spreadsheet (beefeater, st. germain, lime, strawberry syrup, green strawberry bitters). I enjoyed this drink better as it wasn't too sweet and the flavor profile was more to my taste when it comes to cocktails. I'm happy to have found another bar to add to my list of places to grab a good drink in Vancouver.
