    Classic breakfast
    Kyle T.

Note: This review is for breakfast that was included with our stay @ the Hyatt downtown alberni TLDR: Pretty standard breakfast experience, nothing in particular stood out which was a let down since Carlino is on the Michelin guide. The restaurant was also unfortunately understaffed and had a hard time dealing with a sunday morning breakfast rush. If this meal was not free, we would likely not return. Food: Included in our hotel stay was a breakfast entree and 2 drinks. I had the classic breakfast, green smoothie, and a flat white. I didn't feel like there was anything special with the classic breakfast to justify its menu price ($27). The green smoothie was refreshing and the flat white was as expected for a restaurant that also serves coffee. Price: Again, this was included with our stay at the Hyatt. However, I don't think meals we got reflect their menu prices. $27 for the classic breakfast and $15+ for the smoothie seemed steep to me. Service: For context, we came on a sunday morning around 9:30am. We were at the front of the breakfast rush with 4+ parties coming in after us. The staff was kind and communicative but unfortunately the restaurant seemed understaffed. The servers were running around to many different tables and seemed a little overwhelmed. I wish management would have expected more traffic on a sunday brunch and staffed more waiters. Also, Carlino does provide get-it-yourself fruit + pastries, but when going to the station there were no plates.

The restaurant is gorgeous. There is a beautiful wall treatment at the reception area. Inside is very soothing. We had dinner and breakfast here. Dinner: I had the Salmone and my husband had the boar. We shared a Caesar salad. The Caesar salad came out as a head of romaine cut in half covered with Parmesan cheese with a few slices of speck underneath. It was very lightly dressed. Almost too lightly dressed. An hour later we got our entrees. We were told the boar dish took longer to make. Good thing my husband enjoyed it. First time trying boar meat. It is a bit harder than pork. Not tough. Just firmer. We were skeptical about going for breakfast because of the long kitchen wait at dinner. But they have switched to buffet. It was very nice!! We ordered an omelette and smoke salmon Benedict. Part of the price for buffet. Both were Delicious and plated beautifully !! The buffet included congee with toppings. Congee was good and comforting. There were 3 breakfast smoothies. Very delicious! Dinner service was nice and very friendly. Breakfast service was ok. Food was really high quality.

Date night at Carlino Vancouver. A Michelin Guide restaurant in downtown Vancouver serving house-made pasta and burrata flown in weekly from Italy. We loved the cozy-chic ambiance, incredible service, and rich Italian flavours. Here's what we ordered: * Daily baked focaccia * Imported burrata * Rigatoni al Ragù * Cjarsons della Casa * Chocolate cannoli * Sunset Bliss cocktail * Basil Limonata Perfect for a romantic night out or celebrating something special! Trendy spot ideal for client dinners or intimate dinners with close friends. My friend happened to be an hour late () but the staff were so patient while waiting on me and never made me feel unwelcome. Our server recommended me a mocktail off-menu and it was so fresh and fruity! She listened to what I was looking for and recommended the perfect passionfruit concoction. The carpaccio was good and standard, though I wish it came with more crostini. We needed to order more to finish up the dish. The scallops were perfectly herby and buttery. Cooked to perfection-- not rubbery. We loved the lamb that was cooked to tender perfection. Finally, the tiramisu had a light texture while being rich in flavor. While nothing stood out as being exceptionally memorable, the quality control was really good across all dishes. I would come back!

We went to Carlino's for our anniversary dinner. It was our first time being here and the reviews were excellent so hence why we chose it. Food was excellent, I had the bolognese pasta and my husband had the lamb. Everything was well presented & delicious. The other stand out thing was their Sommelier, Laurent, who was super helpful when choosing the wine. The list he has curated is not large (which we prefer) but very well rounded. All in all, this was an excellent place to dine and we will be back again soon. 10/10

Great last-minute dinner spot. We ended up going for a late dinner around 8:30 PM. My sister loved the apple ricotta ravioli. She said it was one of the best ravioli dishes she's ever had. We also got the Bolognese, which was really good as well. The restaurant was very accommodating for gluten and dairy allergy with one of the people we were with. It was a really nice environment and the restaurant is located inside of a hotel so that is something to keep in mind. You have to enter the lobby of a hotel and go up the elevator inside the hotel to get there.

Carlino's might be the only upscale Italian restaurant to really wow me. I'm someone who likes to feel that my money is well spent, therefore when going out to pricier restaurants, I tend to be extra critical of my experience and the food. That being said, I honestly have no notes for Carlino. I had ordered the Salmone al Tartufo Nero ($38) with a Sunset Bliss cocktail ($19) . I was a little worried about the portion size, since our server had mentioned that specific sections of the menu didn't come with sides. The salmon was soft and amazingly seasoned; the skin was super crispy. The salmon was done so well that I even ate the skin (i usually do not have the fish skin). The gnocchi that was served with the salmon was cooked perfectly and very delicious. If I had to take points off for something, it would be for not having more gnocchi. Lastly, the truffle sauce was amazing. It had a strong truffle flavor, but not so strong that it overpowered the salmon. I find that restaurants tend to under season the plate if there is it is served with a sauce, so I was also very happy to find that the salmon was still very well seasoned and there was an amazing balance between the sauce and the seasoning. The cocktail was yummy, with the lychee flavor really shining through. I typically like my cocktails to had the flavor of alcohol more, so I was a little surprised at how I could taste the liqueur. Regardless, it was still a fun drink to have.

Amazing restaurant! Found it by accident on our first night in town and came for an early birthday dinner. The food was incredible, everything we got was very delicious, the service was great and the ambiance made our evening unforgettable. Definitely recommend getting the duck! Birthday tiramisu was a very nice touch as well. Would 100% go back!

Ambiance: 4/5 Service: 4.5/5 Food/drink: 4/5 Overall: 5/5 I came here to try the apertivo hour which runs daily from 3-5PM - with the purchase of any drink you receive a charcuterie plate with some cured meats, cheeses, olives and bread. While the drinks were a little pricey - the alcoholic cocktails range from $16-$20 with the non-alcoholic cocktails ranging from $9-10, I was pleasantly surprised by the size of the charcuterie plate that came with them! The drinks both tasted great and so did the plate. As for ambiance, Carlino is gorgeous on the inside but I took one point away as some of the tables weren't wiped off properly and it looked like the owner/ a manager had brought in their baby who was loud the entire time which ruined the atmosphere a bit. The server and bartender were both super friendly and my server only knock was that there was a bit of a delay between when the brought the drinks out and when the charcuterie plate came out but no major complaints there! While Carlino is a fairly expensive place to eat a full meal, I really enjoyed the aperitivo hour here and would definitely come back for it!

Took my partner here for their birthday celebration and thoroughly enjoyed the calm, quiet, yet beautifully decorated restaurant. The style of the restaurant was really well put together and also made for great photo ops! They also had live music on a Sunday evening, which was a nice touch! For a Michelin reccommended restaurant, the ambience was deserving of the rating, while the food didn't quite exceed expectations. *Must try* Focaccia (5/5) - $10 Taste: Not sure if I was hungry or not, but their focaccia is TOP NOTCH! With a slight, crispy crust and soft moist bread dipped into their olive oil and balsamic vinagrette, this was absolute chef's kiss. Portion Size: Good to share between 3 people Olives (3/5) - $9 Taste: I'm not an olive connoisseur so I'd say that their olives were pretty standard as a side starter. The olives at the bottom of the dish were significantly saltier than the olives on the top because it was soaked in brine. Portion Size: Good to share between 3 people Burrata (4/5) - $28 Taste: Delicious and fresh salad with burrata and pear, which added a refreshing and light touch! Portion Size: Good to share between 2 people Capesante Gratinate (Swimming Scallops) (3/5) - $29 Taste: This dish was disappointing as I found it overly salty and absolutely drenched in butter. And this is coming from a butter lover. I could not taste the freshness of the scallops because of all the overpowering flavours. You had to eat it with the bread for it to taste decent. Portion Size: Good to share between 2-3 people Bigoli Al Nero (Lobster Squid Ink Pasta) (4/5) - $45 Taste: The pasta had many redeeming qualities, perfectly al dente noodles paired with delicious lobster chunks. Yet again, I found that the sauce it was served in was on the saltier side. Portion Size: Good portion for 1 person *MUST TRY* Goulash Triestino (Braised Beef Cheeks with Risotto) (5/5) - $50 Taste: The braised beef cheeks have got to be the award-winning dish. If there's anything you should order from the menu this one is it. From the second the beef hits your mouth, you can taste the red wine that the meat has been simmering in. From there the beef just melts right in your mouth. Paired with the saffron risotto that perfectly balances the richness of the beef cheeks, this was what I call a perfect entree. Portion Size: Good portion for 1 person. [Value for Money] For a more upscale restaurant, the portion sizes served were surprisingly decent. I would say, go with the recommended dishes (their meat dishes) and forgo the seafood. Overall, I'd say that the food is above average, but not quite worth the Michelin recommended price point.

We came for happy hour on a Tuesday and ordered a garibubbly for drinks. With drinks you can get whatever you want from the essentially huge charcuterie board. They have a vast array of meats, olives, cheese, spreads and bread. I think for the price of a drink this is a pretty decent deal. But knowing me, I couldn't just get that. We stayed till 5 and ordered a couple items from the main menu. We got the carpaccio and the foie gras. The carpaccio was okay. The truffle and Parmesan were way too overpowering on the beef. The crunchy bread went really well with this dish though. The foie gras was the better of the 2 dishes. It was creamy and luscious. The raisin mostarda went perfectly with this. The server offered us extra bread with the foie gras as obviously 3 pieces was not enough for the amount of foie gras provided. I would have preferred this dish to be served with the crunchy bread from the carpaccio dish as I felt the crunchy texture would have accompanied the creamy foie gras better. We also ordered espresso martinis for dessert and this was definitely one of the best espresso martinis we've had. It was creamy yet strong and definitely makes an impact. Would definitely order this again. At the end of the meal, they brought out 2 cookies as a little dessert. Nice little touch if I could, I would give this place a 3.5 out of 5. Overall, the service was really nice. The atmosphere was relaxed (don't sit at the table near the door as it gets really cold) and not pretentious. The aperitivo deal is definitely worth it if you are a big charcuterie board fan. I would need to go back to try their other items but from the ones I tried it's not bad. Get. The espresso martini.

I'm reviewing the NYE menu from Carlino. I thought it was pretty amazing for the price. $130 per person for a 3-course meal with prosecco. Additional $70 for wine pairing. The wine pairings were excellent. I had this 11 year old wine from Sicily for my entree. The service was impressive but then again 20% of gratuity was included in our bill. We don't mind though. The servers were there on NYE to work instead of being with their families. They deserve more compensation. Now what can I say about the food. The amuse-bouche was this crab salad in a crepe. It was delicious. I could've eaten more. I had the pan seared Foie Gras. It just melted in my mouth. The wine pairing compliments the Foie Gras. For my entree I had the sea bass. It was cooked to perfection. Crunchy on the sides, flaky on the inside. It tastes milky! I love it. The 11 year old wine pairing for the entree was excellent. The dessert was really good too. I just wish I had more strawberries because it goes well with the wine pairing. The service was attentive. Our server that night was very knowledgeable about the menu. Our overall experience was awesome. If I'm not mistaken Carlino used to be Market by Georges. Renovated and renamed to Carlino.

My friends and I recently shared a few dishes here, and while the flavors were truly impressive,…read morethe portion sizes left us wanting more. We started with the complimentary bread, which was a total highlight. Each person gets a fresh slice that has an incredible crust and a soft, pillowy center--dipping it into the oil and vinegar was the perfect way to start the meal. For our mains, the Gnocchi Asparagi e Funghi was my favorite - the gnocchi themselves were clearly handmade and had a great texture that didn't feel heavy. The earthy mushrooms and asparagus worked really well with the parmesan cream, which was rich but didn't overpower the other flavors. The Squid Ink Linguine ai Frutti di Mare was also solid; the lobster bisque base gave it a deep, savory saltiness that coated the clams, prawns, and scallops perfectly without making the dish feel too "fishy." We also tried the Candele Al Ragù D'Anatra. The duck ragu was tender and savory, and the combination of the parmesan fondue and aged asiago added a nice, sharp saltiness that made every bite really satisfying. Everything we ate was seasoned perfectly and tasted fresh, it's just a shame the portions were so small because the flavors were definitely there. The service was excellent and very attentive; I especially appreciated that they were constantly on top of refilling my water throughout the night. The ambience also hit the right note, making it a great spot for a night out. However, the portions are definitely on the smaller side and aren't super filling. Even though every dish tasted amazing, we weren't full by the end of the meal, so it's something to keep in mind if you're arriving with a big appetite.

The seafood ravioli was tasty and I'd have it again. The pappardelle was decent although didn't have as much depth or complexity of flavour as it could've. It did come with burrata on top which was a bit disappointing since it wasn't gooey at all. For our mains, we split the pesto rigatoni and the special which was also a rigatoni with white wine, capers, shrimp and lemon. First off, the noodles are delicious on both dishes. They are clearly handmade in the best way possible. Very tender, delicate, and almost melt in your mouth. The pesto dish was perfect but again the burrata on top was disappointing since it was sort of tough/dry and not gooey. The special dish was very good but the lemon was quite strong.
