Myself and my Mom came here on December 13th and were the first table of the night. We were greeted by staff and directed towards a smaller table in the corner. We asked if it might be possible to sit at a 4-seater as we were hoping for more room but were denied promptly as they stated they had many reservations for the night and could not accommodate us at another table. I found this interesting given by the time we were done our meal only 3 other tables had been sat in the restaurant. The restaurant has a fun artistic vibe and boasts quite a small dining room with minimal tables. Don't be taken aback though when you find the bathrooms have full length mirrors along an entire wall that faces the toilet. Despite this, the service by our server was impeccable. She was kind, courteous, and helpful. It appeared that she was the only server on during our time there and she managed the tables well and We ordered the Cibo Meatballs for an appetizer which were delicious and well-portioned. For our mains, I ordered a Cannelloni Boscaiola and my Mom ordered the Chicken Piccata. The Cannelloni Boscaiola was quite burnt on the ends, but the filling and overall flavour was delicious. Unfortunately, due to the burning the pasta ended up crunchier than expected. Fortunately, the Chicken Piccata was reported to be extremely tender and juicy, with fantastic flavours and an elegant sauce. Overall the experience was good with some mild hiccups. read more

It was a very enjoyable dinner as like last time we are here a while ago. Humboldt squid was a star. It was perfectly cooked and paired with a tasty pesto sauce. Our lingcod was cooked just right, flaky and juicy but a bit more seasoning is required as it was not salted at all. However I rather have it under salted than over salted. I came here on New Year's Eve, it was tasty. They had the option of a set menu, so I went with that. I had a tasty, fruity cocktail. We shared the burrata, it was excellent. I had the salad and I sampled the beef carpaccio. Both appetizers were excellent. I had the salmon Wellington for dinner. It was really tasty and came with asparagus and potatoes. The salmon was cooked perfectly. I sampled the duck entree which was also tasty. I had the lemon cake and I sampled the tiramisu which was definitely the winner. Came here in September for brunch on a Saturday and it was completely empty. As much as I feel sad for the restaurant, it was an awesome experience for me. We sat right next to an open window, so I felt very safe about my dine-in experience. We ordered the build your own mimosa set and it was super cute. Apparently our ratios of juice to alcohol was completely incorrect but I think that's the beauty of making it yourself :) I've also never tried a watermelon or mango mimosa before but they paired super well. All the brunch items were also very delicious. The price is great as well, since all their brunch items are just $15 and they have a lot of nice options. They also offered us French toast at the end for dessert since we were celebrating an anniversary. It was super sweet of them and it tasted fantastic like everything else. Overall a good experience. We had an enjoyable Italian dining experience at Cibo Trattoria. Buon Appetito! Focaccia Bread Bread is served with olive oil and vintage balsamic vinegar. It was perfectly crisp on the outside and soft and chewy on the inside. Cannelloni di maiale Cannelloni is a cylindrical type of lasagna and baked with a filling. The stuffings include braised pork and ricotta. Its Tuscan kale puree goes well with the Focaccia bread. Their pasta dishes are small and served as a second course. Tiramisu It was presented like an ice-cream sandwich. It was very tasty! Cibo Trattoria is located in downtown Vancouver. It is attached to the Moda hotel at 900 Seymour Street, Vancouver BC. I was looking for a restaurant downtown where my colleague and I can go for lunch. I came accross Cibo Trattoria. Had to give this place a try. I didn't realize my colleague can't take carbs but they were able to make her something slightly different on the menu. I got the duck ragu on the other hand. It was ok. The name entails a lot of duck in the dish but this was not the case. Its basically pasta with pasta sauce and chunks of beef and pork. Well to be fair, I was warned by the server that the pasta sauce has beef and pork in it and not much duck. I knew about this before ordering. The menu is so limited that I didn't know what to order. I should have chose the meatball instead. I got bread to go with it and the bread seems to taste better than the main. Decor was ok. When we came here there was no one. Our first meal in Vancouver and it was a doozy. Cibo Trattoria is the hotel restaurant for the Moda Hotel - it was odd when we walked in on a Friday during peak lunch hour and there was no one else eating there. There was free hotel WiFi - a necessity when traveling from the US. They offered a brunch menu even though it was Friday - their brunch and lunch menu is available everyday. I ordered the tagliatelle bolognese, which was tasty and really hit the spot - because, duh, carbs. However it wasn't anything super memorable. On the other hand, my friend ordered the French toast was phenomenal. The focaccia French toast was topped with a mascarpone citrus curd and fruit compote that made for a fruity and tart combination. I've never had anything quite like it. Overall, Cibo Trattoria has a solid brunch menu. While the lack of customers made it seem a little worrisome, our food was satisfying and insta-worthy! read more

Cibo was pretty delicious. Really enjoyed the sablefish. Only note is the risotto was too lemony. The squab was pretty good too. The lobster pasta was okay. I wish the pasta was a larger portion and a bit more flavourful. The beef carpaccio was delicious. I also loved the romantic atmosphere. Perfect for date night! Oh and don't forget dessert. I dined at Cibo Trattoria with a group of 8 ladies and we sat in the back room. The room was cozy and elegant, keep in mind that their WIFI doesn't work in the room. Pictures turned out a little dark, but overall we enjoyed the atmosphere. Food was delicious and it'll be a repeat for us. I had 2 stand out dishes, which were: Tagliatelle alla Bolognese - slow cooked pork and beef ragu. I forgot to take a picture so I can't remember what kind of pasta they used, but it was perfectly al dente. Loved it. Bone Marrow - fatty goodness, which we used our toast to scoop every last bite up. Topped with a few pickled vegetables. Service was spectacular. Our waiter was funny and attentive. From my past experience, the restaurant on promotion (over 40% off or 1/2 price menu) usually implied the business going downwards. Cibo Trattoria wasn't on my top list to check it out but it was Travelzoo deal and ok to try it. When we walked in, the place was empty on Sunday night. After we got seated and presented our voucher to the waiter when we ordering. However, he told us they're not accepting QR code and printed copy only. Not kidding, why you just marked the voucher as redeemed on my phone and it will be redeemed or voided. He asked me to send the email to hotel email and let them printed for me. We ordered appy and main to share, all were disappointed. Beef carpaccio - traditional Italian dish but the beef was a bit dry and not fresh. Duck breast - it was a bit overcooked and chewy. Bison rib - gamey and tasty salty. Tiramisu - it was mediocre and some of homemade tiramisu better than that. We came here for breakfast and the food was pretty tasty. Service was pretty slow but the waitress/waiter was pretty attentive. They filled our waters while we waited for about 35 minutes before we got our food. I didn't have a problem with the waiting though because the restaurant was really beautiful/clean. It has large windows that faces the street so you can pretty much people watch while eating your food. The food was decent but nothing to rave about. The polenta was a bit salty for my taste but it wasn't bad. I guess it complimented the eggs because they weren't salty enough. My husband ordered the frittata and it was good. It was a little drier/crispier that what we would have liked but they threw in generous amounts of smoked salmon bits. Overall, it was a good restaurant experience. I probably wouldn't come here if we weren't staying at the hotel though. read more

Not sure why this place doesn't get more customers! It's cozy and the interior is really great. I've passed by it and always see a lot of tables available so assumed it wasn't the best but I'm glad I gave it a shot. It's great for a date as it's connected to uva the drinks are amazing. Their food menu is good too, I had the anatra (duck) and tried a few bites of the branzino (sea bass). The duck breast wasn't very rich or heavy and I still felt a bit hungry after. Some sort of carbs would've been nice with it. The sea bass was tasty. None of their desserts stood out to me so didn't end up having dessert. The downside was that it took ages for the food to come. There were only 2 other tables in the entire restaurant while I was there so it was shocking that it took that long when they weren't even busy. read more

Not sure why this place was empty- because it was delicious! Came in for a late breakfast/brunch on a Saturday and enjoyed every bite. I'm guessing that it's busier on weekdays when the business hotel guests are there. Prices were reasonable and fare was superb. I had the panino sandwich with egg, prosciutto, and almond pesto. I asked for it without cheese, as I can't have dairy. It was still to die for. My BF had eggs, potatoes, bacon, salad and toast. All cooked perfectly with fresh bright dark orange egg yolks. There was a special mimosa that sounded good, will have to try that next time. My boyfriend and I have a tradition of going there once a year for his birthday. Love the quiet atmosphere where we can chat and enjoy our food! Their Bone Marrow is our must-order every year we go there. This year we went, we ordered: Roasted Bone Marrow (ofcourse), Bison Carpaccio, Salt Spring Island Mussels and Venison Tortellini. The Bone Marrow kinda disappoint us this time, we found a hair when we were almost done with it. We told the waiter about it and they offered to give us a free new dish of Bone Marrow. Came here for my father's birthday after several other restaurants on our list were full reserved, and thank goodness we did! Despite a small hiccup with our reservation (I had called to make a reservation earlier, but upon arrival there was no record of our reservation), we were seated immediately. The waiter was pleasant and helpful with recommendations and the decor of the restaurant was cozy and unique. The food was delicious. We ordered 4 appetizers: the bison tonnato, albacore tuna crudo, cacio e pepe fratelli and grilled focaccia. While the first three very tasty, the grilled focaccia was definitely the highlight. It is served with olive oil and chickpea spread and absolutely delicious. It was light, airy and grilled perfectly. I nearly cancelled my pasta order for two more orders of the focaccia. I'm getting hungry just thinking about it. However, when my pasta arrived, I was glad I didn't give into my immature self and stuff my face with the bread. I ordered the spaghetti carbonara which turned out to be the most delicious carbonara I had ever had. It came with actual chunks of bacon, not the normal fried thin pieces but actual meaty pieces of bacon. YUM. Despite being a simple dish, it tasted like a culinary experience. My parents ordered the tagliatelle alla bolognaise and the slow roasted chicken. Both were delicious, though I maintain not as delicious as my pasta. For dessert we had the olive oil cake with pistachio ice cream. To be honest this was the only part of the dinner which was not fantastic. The pistachio ice cream was lacking in pistachio flavour. The cake was moist but also lacking in flavour. Luckily we were too full to mind much. All in all, this was a delicious dinner with a moderate price tag. I am really happy to have had my birthday here last night. It was a 5 star dinner experience in all aspects. Our waitress was very friendly and did everything to ensure that we were enjoying our food, never had an empty glass and answered all my questions about how the food was made. As for the food...oh the food...it was perfect from start to finish! For starters I got the lamb tongue which wasn't on the menu! I've always enjoyed beef tongue and this was no exception - it was so tender and chewy. It came with some bread with a spread of roasted garlic - so tasty! My bf got the freshly made agnolotti which was stuffed with rabbit and pork and chicken. I'd never known what agnolotti was, looks like a fancy wonton to me :) It was so fresh and so good. For the main course I had the best halibut I've ever had in my life! The halibut was so fresh and meaty - very simple but so good. It came with a mixture of spinach, chard and olives where really brought out very strong flavours. I thoroughly enjoyed it! My bf had the grilled skirt steak which was perfectly grilled on the outside while medium rare on the inside. It came with the best cooked turnips I'd ever tasted and roast root veggies like carrots. From the time we sat down till the last morsel was tasted, it was a wonderful meal. Service was right on top of things but not invasive. We started with the zucchini carpaccio. Delicious. Wow this place is awesome and they serve breakfast and brunch which is insane good till 2pm!!! The location is so easy to walk to if your downtown anywhere right on Seymour infront Staples ! First time here and the waitress greeted me with the kindest attitude and vibe. I was seated quickly and explained what some great items are on the menu. I got the fruit parfait it was so good filled with thick yogurt, berry jam, granola and fruit such a great way to start the day ! The waitress was what really made my time there she has dark hair and small stature. Such a sweet caring person and brightened my day as it wasn't going so well! This restaurant is attached to the Moda Hotel on Seymour and Smithe. Interior is very contemporary and clean. Server was friendly. Came at lunch and was shocked at the very limited lunch menu. Ordered flank steak ($21) and it came with 8 small pieces of meat and drowning in fingerling potatoes coated with olive oil. Told the server our dissatisfaction with the quantity of meat and she offered to have it sent back to the kitchen. Also ordered brick chicken ($19) which we definitely enjoyed more than the steak. The skin was crispy and the chicken was baked and tasty. We do not recommend this place because of the limited menu, over priced dishes and simply because there are just better choices for a meal in and around this area. Free wifi tho. read more

Most unfortunate Valentine's experience. Food was cold and bland and portions were EXTREMELY SMALL. My partner and I left and went straight to another restaurant for food - how does $200 eave people so hungry? Service staff spent the night walking around aimlessly dodging confused customers as they seemed just as puzzled as the diners. We didn't have one designated server and our courses came out all over the place. Most meals were shared, which was strange as it was not printed on the menu, nor explained to us by the staff. We were never given side plates though the table beside us did. We have been to this restaurant many times for dinner and have been extremely happy... Up until this visit. My wife is gluten free and in the past there were many options, including pasta. Not this time. Only two main course items were gluten free and no gluten free pasta was available at all. Even Spaghetti Factory has gluten free pasta options. We started with squash soup which was excellent. We both enjoyed it and would recommend it. For main course my wife ordered the short ribs. Sides were polenta and a few other items. The short ribs were extremely fatty and the polenta was all but tasteless. I asked how she liked her meal and she replied "I should have ordered the sea bass," which was the only other gluten free main course. I wanted pasta and based on the waitress's advice, ordered the lasagna. It was okay, but nothing special. In that, it was disappointed as I was expecting something better. We had two glasses of wine. For $15 each they could have been better, too. Service was fine, no issues there. There were only two dessert options. One small plate with some different pieces of chocolate and some macaroons. That was the gluten free option. The other was a small plate with some blobs of Panna cotta and a few small pieces of biscuits. Both were ok, but nothing memorable and we probably should have gone home or elsewhere for dessert. So disappointing as we have had wonderful meals here before We will not be planning on returning, which is sad, especially as we often attend concerts at the Orpheum Theatre across the street. We had a party of 11 people which I had made reservations for several months earlier. The entire experience was quite disappointing to all of us - food and service. Firstly, our waiter felt like he didn't want to be there and was not accommodating. We even tried to be understanding and chatted up with him. At the beginning when we first ordered cocktails he asked if it's all going to be on one bill, when we asked that it be separate billing he responded back with our system isn't setup for that but I'll do it anyways (with an annoyed tone). I don't understand why he even bothered to ask if you couldn't do separate billing? He also seemed very annoyed when we had a couple people late and I had requested to order for them even though they had not arrived yet. He insisted to know where they were going to sit, but it was quite obvious the open seats were at the end of the table. Secondly, one of the ladies ordered the champagne flight and when it came the champagne was warm. We told the waiter and he had to go consult with someone instead of apologizing and tell us he'll bring a cold flight. As a server, customer service should be priority, if something is not right it should be taken away and fixed and should never question the customer whether it is right or wrong or try to make it feel like it's the customer's fault. Thirdly, the food was extremely disappointing. We had been there many times before and the food was always great! The roast chicken was very dry and made it tough to eat. The risotto was under cooked and very watery. 4 out of 3 pappardelle pastas were cold/warm in temperature, undercooked, too thick & doughy and the portion was extremely small compared to what we use to have when we came there before. The Ravioli was also not hot in temperature (the plate was cold) tasted good but barely had 2 bites of beef cheek definitely not worth $22 and was not filling as it was only ONE ravioli, felt more like an appetizer dish. The only dish that was good was the mussels but it's not hard to do as I make them at home all the time, but the sauce was great and it was tasty. I was told after that there was a new chef so I am understanding but I sure hope the service, food and portions changes. I had sent an email to management and was given an apology and a thank you for the email but no compensation of any kind. So in the future, I would probably not be inclined to go there again unless I see outstanding positive reviews. Sorry no pictures as the food was not picture worthy and that's saying a lot coming from a foodie person! Uncomfortable and unwanted: Upon entering we were greeted by 2 enthusiastic Maitre D's. Service started off great and everyone was friendly. The first course came and was delicious. Second course came and was just ok. The fish was definitely underseasoned and the pesto on the chicken was too bitter to consume. The pesto was made with arugula, which was not stated on the menu. I asked for salt to season the fish with and was asked condescendingly if "[I] knew how to use the salt grinder" (side note - I am in my late 20s but look young- therefore often get treated as such) The waiter forgot our dessert and implied that we had not ordered from the set menu, even though we clearly stated it from the beginning. The vibe of the Maitre D and waiter was overall condescending and snobbish. Not only from the service but from the obvious side eye given from the waiter. I understand that at a 'nicer restaurant you might encounter maitre d's and servers that are a bit pretentious, but these two older white men need to check themselves- my dining experience was less than sub par for the price point. The service was poor. Not in the sense that they didn't fill my water glass promptly but in the sense that their tone, body language and actions made me feel like a less that welcome customer. I'll be honest- ( the bill was around 90 as we didnt have drinks) I tipped 15% which I felt was more than generous from the poor service we received and as I exited the restaurant I was given a cold stare from our waiter. Neither the Maitre D or our waiter said thank you or have a good night. I suspect it was dude to my low tip. I was made to feel uncomfortable and unwanted as a patron at your restaurant. I will not be recommending this place and will not be dining there again. read more
