Parking get be difficult at times but there is street parking and the big parking structure isn't too far from here. This cafe can get really busy on the weekends especially on Farmer's Market Sundays. I have tried a couple different drinks and all have been very good. The combos they make are delicious, not overly sweet and plenty of strong coffee that I require in early mornings. I also tried their seasonal matcha with cherry foam and that was also delicious, great balance of subtle sweetness and acidity. Forgot to mention the store is small so I think this is more ideal to take to go and walk around downtown.

I always thought their matcha was good, but I only got to enjoy it when I was going to school around there which was brief! Aside from now aging myself, I got the Guava Matcha from them and the employee recommended getting less sweet if I don't like overly sweet drinks. I have to say, it was perfect sweetness for me! The balance of matcha flavor and guava was 5/5. I'll definitely be back the next time I'm shopping in the area. It was satisfying and makes me crave their matcha!

I'm an absolute matcha snob and make my own at home all the time; the one I had at Grounded was quite delicious and I could tell they use a higher quality matcha than most other coffee shops, which made me happy. My husband went simple with a cold brew coffee and said it had a good flavor with low acidity, which he very much enjoyed. Next time we have to drive to/from Oakland for work, we'll be stopping in again and my husband will likely be taking a bag of beans home too now that he knows the coffee quality was high. I ordered a 16 oz (large) coffee, but was served a 12 oz. When it was brought to our table, I politely asked about the size since it looked smaller than what I usually get. The barista told me it was 12 oz and mentioned it might just be a different cup, then walked away without really addressing the concern. I checked my receipt and confirmed I was charged for a 16 oz. I went back to the counter and explained that I simply wanted the correct size. Initially, I was told I would need to pay more, which was frustrating. After explaining again, she finally offered to remake it. For clarity, the drink hadn't been touched at all--I returned it exactly as it was. I really like this place and will continue to support it, but I hope the team can improve on order accuracy and customer service, especially when concerns are raised politely. A little more attentiveness and willingness to resolve issues would go a long way.

I was able to set up my computer and one of the side rooms and get some work done. This place seems to be a very popular place for studying and doing some work. Just a great place in a great area. They have a large lot and there's also plenty of street parking in the area, especially during the day.

He's definitely perfected his craft. The Mrs. and I have ordered from here casually many times before on our days off. We've tried the tuna, mentaiko, and ume. Mentaiko is my personal fave. The tuna is excellent too, and the ume has a classic salty-tangy flavor that's unique and refreshing. It's a great option for vegetarians as well. Recently, we ordered from Leonard to have onigiri catered for our daughter's birthday party. We got those 3 flavors. Originally, we just wanted something unique for the adults alongside the chicken nuggets and pizza we got for the kids. Man, we are so glad we did. The onigiri was a massive hit! People absolutely loved it, including guests who weren't necessarily huge into Japanese food or culture. They disappeared FAST! Like so fast I didn't get to eat one myself! This place is seriously a hidden gem in the East Bay. Definitely stop by, try the musubi and onigiri, and say hi to Leonard, who is genuinely one of the nicest people/owners you'll meet.

I think I came on the off day since he was busy and out of a few things, but I appreciated his kindness and great customer service because he gave us a few more musubis as well. My sister said the Omnipork was just a tad bit dry, but I really enjoyed mine. The shrimp was perfectly fried and flavorful and tasted great with the spam. The latte was also delicious and creamy. There was a decent sized parking lot in the back as well.
