I used to come here regularly years ago to visit with my best friend at the time. We'd spend an hour or two here chatting about various things. He died of cancer and I couldn't bring myself to visit here again until tonight. This cafe has even more seating than years ago and there's still the atmosphere of "stay as long as you'd like". I came in, had a hot chocolate, and did some writing about my deceased friend. Plenty of parking, good service, and plenty of seats. This is my favorite Peet's. Don't get me wrong, I love this location because it's bigger than most Peet's nearby and it's very convenient for me and I love the baristas here 90% of the time. I just came here tonight like 15 minutes ago because I was craving for a chai latte and when I got there, there were a bunch of kids who are getting tutored but I have nothing against them. Lol. But this isn't a place to be in a rush for your order at all. Make sure you have time before jumping in that line. Location is convenient since it's right off the freeway and in the Safeway shopping center (but sometimes parking can be a hassle). So again, should not be in a rush to get your order. Staff needs to not be so aggressive when they are called out on their mistakes, there's a kid with bad tattoos who messed up my drink and gave me attitude for it when he made the mistake? I asked for an iced drink and I was given a hot one, even though the sticker on my drink said iced white mocha with oat milk, And when I did get it iced it wasn't even made correctly, there was no oat milk. Taking one sip of this made me have horrible stomach cramps for the rest of the day. Please have your staff wear gloves when they're preparing my coffee! I understand a mask is important but so are gloves. Also, if somebody comes in to your store and they don't have their nose covered please ask your staff to tell them to cover their nose. The Castro Valley store is hands down the worst run Peet"s location in the East Bay. Whatever time window the app gives you after you place your mobile order, add 15-20 minutes for this S-L-OW location. Clearly the app is estimating based on normal Peet's location where the staff actually hustles. I have ordered three times during the new social distancing protocols. The first time I waited and waited and waited with the crowd of other people and when I eventually asked the cashier and she said, "Oh somebody must have taken yours" - ok, not their fault. Then I had to wait another 15 minutes for a pretty straightforward hot drink. Ok, kinda. Second time I figure I'd account for their slothful pace. We arrived 10 minutes after the time and the drinks weren't there. I inquired about my status in case it was taken again - "it's in" the cashier snapped at me. Ok. So we wait - another 12 minutes amongst a throng of marginally social distanced people. We received our drinks 22 minutes after the latest time quoted. Third time (I clearly love coffee or wouldn't bother) I waited so long that I asked to cancel my order - "ok, my manager will credit it to you," I was told. Specifically a kid with tattoos and a big diamond in his ear their conversations in the back are obnoxious they're throwing empty cartons across the room into the trash. I asked for a vanilla latte with light milk and it seems like they poured extra milk in there I asked for an extra shot they did not include an extra shot of espresso, they gave me my turkey sandwich which wadisplaces . Worst Peet's location I've ever experienced and worst of all, it's the closest location to my home. My drink was incorrect in every way. I'm allergic to milk and it was made with whole milk. 80% of the time I order from here, we experience some sort of issue. I returned to ask for my drink to be made correctly in a sea of about 20 frustrated customers standing outside, with a backlog of 30min. I was asked if I wanted a refund. No, i want the drink ordered. I asked for a small horchata oat milk latte with pumpkin syrup. The second time the drink was made with the correct milk, but the syrup was omitted. I can't help but feel as if this was to spite me. I'm so sick of this place. Do yourself a favor and go across the street the Pampas cafe where I have NEVER received an incorrect order. Saturdays is a shit show here. App says 2-7 minutes, but it actually takes 25-30 minutes to get your drink. That is not an exaggeration. People come in here and order a BAG of 15+ drinks which delays everyone else. Worst of all..they consistently mess up orders. I ask for my drink extra hot, it comes out lukewarm every time. That is because they let drinks sit without lids while they make all the other drinks. I ordered my wife's drink with no syrup, instead they put so much syrup in it that it becomes undrinkable. Excellent service today despite the huge crowd during the free drinks offered by Petes. The staff still holds a smile and good spirit. Hands down. The drinks still tasted good. It was not water down. Very impressive. The parking lot was so packed, it was difficult to find parking spaces and yet staff understood and allowed me to order for my husband while he was waiting for a parking space outside. Peet's is my go-to for a traditional cappuccino in CV. The staff always greets me with a smile, and the quality of my drink is always awesome. The remodeled environment is very nice, with ample seating, nice music, and good wi-fi. That being said, this is not Starbucks or McDonalds. The wait times can be inconsistent, both in line and for your drink to be prepared. If you are on a very tight schedule, you my want to settle for Starbucks, which is very near by. If you want to relax with a fantastic traditional cappuccino , I think this is a great place. read more

I like Peet's Coffee, and would give the coffee chain 4 stars, due to good coffee. However, this particular shop, as a place to work, is 3 stars. The WiFi is slow, there are limited outlets, and it's pretty crowded, although a lot of empty space with no tables. Holy crap, be careful when placing an order for delivery! Ordered from app and food when food was delivered it wasn't at the door, driver likely dropped it off at the wrong address, which isn't really a problem, it happens. The problem was contacting Peet's to resolve the problem. Customer service is terrible and seems designed that way. App is impossible to make contact with a representative and it took over an hour on hold to reach someone then another 30 minutes on the phone. I don't normally get my coffee here, but during the holidays, they have really nice coffee gift packs/boxes. With both coffee and sweets, you can always find something to gift a coffee lover (teas too)! When I do get a drink, I wouldn't be in a rush since either they put some TLC into my drink... or there's a buddy in the back? I'd like to think the espresso machine runs fairly quick. if i could only give 0 stars. This place has zero brains behind it. When I asked for pour over coffee they had no clue what to do. When I asked for drip coffee they had no clue what to do. It took 3 people to try to figure it out. Finally I got 2 bags of coffee with the wrong labesl so I have no idea which is which. I have one that says #5 which is supposed to be my pour over coffee and the other says #6 but is labeled pour over. So who knows they they really put in each bag, $40 wasted. I love this Peet's spot! It is my go to spot for studying or meeting with friends for a quick drink and chat. The staff moves quickly and are always friendly-- even when you aren't awake at those early morning rushes. They consistently make good cups and I've seen them redo things for people without hesitation. It is quaint and cozy and I enjoy watching folks come and actually sit and engage with each other without the electronic distractions. There are groups I see meet regularly to catch up and talk politics, family life, and past stories. I like this location simply because I rarely have an issue finding a spot to sit. Only issue would be lack of outlets if you want to be long term for work related things or study groups. Parking is also tight as it is shared with the grocery store and other local businesses. The coffee has been consistently not good. I've been giving this place a try for over a month now. Been ordering dark roast in the morning and 4/4 it taste like water and can't taste the coffee and I drink black! Ordered the white mocha it's watered down. Caramel macchiato bitter and taste burnt. I am going to try it one more time before I delete the app. It's just have been a waste money over and over. The thing I see with their hot lattes is that they just continues add milk so eventually it will be steamed with too much water. I have been going tot his Peet's coffee for years, so writing up this review may not be as objective as other reviews. The place all in all is a decent Peet's coffee place with friendly staff and people. Unlike it's counter part, the Starbucks close by, it is kept fairly clean and not as crowded as it is farther from the high school and there is less people who stay for too long. Bathrooms are also cleaner - very much so - and has no bad odor to them. Service is smooth and their drinks are superb. I usually order my coffee roasts here because they aren't burnt like the other Starbucks nearby. However,I order my sweeter drinks from both. Overall, this Peet's a good Peet's to go, I would go out of the way to go here instead of any other coffee places nearby (three Starbucks coffee places) if given the choice. read more

Came into Peet's today to grab a quick cup of coffee and they only had a darker roast ready. The manager overheard me asking for a light roast and came right over to offer me a pressed bean Light roast. I declined the special coffee and then she offered to brew a lighter roast. I really love Peet's and I'm at this location often. I picked up a mobile order today: coffee and iced gingerbread. When I got home, I opened the taped bag of gingerbread and could see a small hair sticking out of the icing. I pulled out the gingerbread and examined it finding another small white or blonde hair. Could be animal hair. A very busy employee answered the phone and offered to replace it when I came back. Not sure I can return after this. read more
