Service was slow but they were nice and friendly. The scent of coffee when you walk in was so good. I ordered the ether which is one of their bold blends, made it creamy with light sweetness. I liked it. Daughter ordered the cold chai medium sweetness it was refreshing.

This Philz Coffee is very convenient -- and usually is my go-to location as I work around the Castro Valley/San Lorenzo area. I was very excited for the opening of this Philz Coffee, as it has been quite long awaited by the community, and for commuters like me, who work either from the South Bay or the Valley. They make the drinks quick, and with precision -- and are very patient when it comes to the making of the drink. It's also very conveniently located, as it's right off the Main Street, which is Castro Valley Blvd. I really like the ambiance and the vibe of this Philz -- it's pretty hip, and still maintains the modernness of things. The only improvement I would give is the parking, but it's Castro Valley -- only one can do so much. I usually get my iced coffee rose from this location, and among the many times I've tried to pick up via online order, they almost make it fresh on the spot (which isn't a bad thing -- they make the drinks in real-time which I honestly really appreciate a lot)! I would definitely go back and support more, and even partner with them should a fundraiser idea arise.

PHILZ COFFEE IS BETTER THAN STARBUCKS! Philtered Soul or Honey Haze is my go to coffee choice here. Light and strong coffee with caramel/ honey note taste. Once your coffee is ready they ask you to taste it to make sure the coffee is to your liking. You can have them adjust it or leave it the way it is. Starbucks does not do that. So Yay Philz! Service is great and friendly workers. Plenty of space to sit on with outlets to plug in your gadgets. For work or for studying. Yes there is a bathroom in the facility. Bathroom is always plus...

Great central location with a lot of free parking! It's always a GREAT morning seeing Katie C. at the register ready to take my order! She is super friendly, quick, and always offers outstanding customer service! Also, she's the one who told me I can order a HOT ECSTATIC! I never knew that! So thank you, thank you! My favorite drink from here is the COLD ECSTATIC, extra sweet and extra creamy! But on a cold day, now I know I can order my favorite drink hot. *NO CASH PAYMENTS. *PLENTY OF OUTLETS TO CHARGE ELECTRONICS.

This location had a great vibe. Compared to other locations this seemed more new, minimalist and modern. It's a very millennial / gen z environment, which I like. The staff is super hip and friendly. Coffee is always great at Philz. I always order the iced coffee rose.

The Philz Coffee empire just keeps growing and growing, and in Castro Valley they may have settled in their most unique yet. Located in the heart of the tony hamlet that is Castro Valley, which is the quintessential suburban community in the east bay of the Bay Area, Philz Coffee is quickly proving that they are here to stay as they continue to expand their footprint beyond their origins in San Francisco. Taking over what was once a gas station, this location of Philz Coffee is inviting thanks to its overall uniqueness in both their interior and exterior design by keeping the exterior of their original gas station basically the same and fully remodeling their interior for an inviting convivial experience. Thanks to great service provided by a sterling quantity of staff, a group of friends and I enjoyed a recent visit on a warm spring weekend. Having been to other locations of Philz Coffee this was by far the easiest and most pleasant, as you can order online at their front counter or through a kiosk screen. What I appreciate most about Philz Coffee is that their menu is constantly evolving, especially regarding their seasonal menu which fits in just right with the weather outside. It also helps that their menu is featured on a laminated piece of paper in addition to being featured on flat panel television screens behind the counter. Since it was rather warm outside upon our visit, I knew I wanted something iced and in their Featured Creations section of their menu they had six handcrafted coffee drinks, five of which featured ice in them, at least that is how their menu displayed them with images next to their names. I ordered an iced version of their Gingersnap Coffee, which was a creamy coffee made with cinnamon, nutmeg and clove spices. At Philz Coffee, you are allowed to select whether you want your coffee drink hot or iced, how much of your designated cream or milk alternative you want in your drink, and the sweetness level. For my drink, I made sure to order it as creamy and sweet as possible. My friend just wanted a warm cup of coffee and our store associate suggested that they enjoy their Jacob's Wonderbar, which had flavors of dark chocolate, berry, and smoke. With two small sized beverages ordered, our bill would be $10.80, and at this location they are cashless, with no additional charges for use of credit cards. It wouldn't take too long for their staff to call our name for our order to be picked up, as we noticed a number of pre-orders being crafted with no immediate pickup in site. Once sipped, we realized how nicely the team at Philz Coffee crafts their coffee beverages as each was smooth and flavorful. Sitting outside in their outdoor patio which had a number of tables but no shade, while sipping our coffee drinks, made us appreciate what Philz Coffee has managed to create in a little under a quarter century. When owner Phil Jaber opened his first coffee shop in San Francisco's Mission District little did he know how large the empire that he would create. Years of learning, experimenting, and blending, with the goal of making a really good cup of coffee he has succeeded in turning a labor of love into a coffee shop with an almost cult-like following, and I for one, cannot wait to see where they wind up next, and how innovative they make their next location look!

Integrated into downtown Hayward just a block from the theater and other eateries and drink spots, Khao Hom has made a strong impression in the local community drawing a good following for weekend brunch as well as weekday lunch. With street parking right in front as well as sharing free public parking in the lot behind the restaurant, once you've slogged through traffic to get to this area, you'll be able to easily park and venture in for your food experience. As you enter, you'll likely need to wait for one of their staff members to seat you in one of their two dining spaces. The rooms are well lit and enhance the ambiance of your meal (and photos) with natural lighting. When seated, you'll get their food and drinks menu in addition to finding their dessert menu at the table. As standard, each table gets a carafe of water for you to serve yourselves. Their menu is quite extensive in representing popular Thai flavors with a bit of flare. You'll find curries, soups, noodles and chef specialties in their own sections of the menu. They also have some alcohol infused drinks for those looking for a full brunch experience. As a novice to some Thai dishes, I did have to ask the staff to explain a bit about certain dishes, but there were a few that caught my eye and never let go. Thai tea - flavorful and bold; rich but not too sweet Matcha latte - rich matcha flavor and creamy; best sipped and can be packed in a to-go cup if you don't finish Tom yum crab omelet - beautifully crafted omurice-esque dish where you'll find white rice encased in an egg omelet topped with succulent pieces of crab meat and smothered in tom yum soup. This dish is not only a pleasure to look at but the taste and textures in each bite will have you salivating for more until the dish completely disappears. This unique take is a must get for first timers! Roti gai tod - crispy fried yet succulent chicken served with a small serving of creamy yellow curry, white rice, and a roti alongside their delicious chili sauce. Fantastic balance of textures and flavors will have your tongue dancing from the spices. Tom kha soup - a bowl of comfort with a whole lot of shredded chicken, red onions, and mushrooms with a few big quarters of fresh tomatoes. It's not as creamy as I would like but the flavor is there with its abundance in lemongrass. The portion is large as one order can easily split into two bowls. Fried ice cream - a meal topper and sweet indulgence for those looking to try something new and rarely found elsewhere. This giant meteorite of a breaded and fried ball of vanilla ice cream is topped with chocolate fudge, powdered sugar, a generous helping of whipped cream and plenty of fruit (strawberries, blueberries, kiwi, grapes, and cantaloupe). Definitely shareable and a surprising star of their dessert menu - they could definitely do more to advertise this! The staff were super friendly and quick to take dirty dishes out of the way. They kept the place clean, served the food promptly and treated all of their customers with respect and smiles. Top notch crew from the front of the house to the back. Furthermore, should you need the restrooms, they do have two gender neutral rooms that were decently maintained. Overall, Khao Hom is not your everyday Thai restaurant nor is it your run of the mill brunch spot - this is a unique experience with food created out of passion to merge these together. The result is an aesthetically pleasing yet hunger extinguishing meal that will have you discovering new flavors and craving for more. With its proximity to the city center, it's a great a spot to plan out a lunch or brunch before a nice stroll around or a movie. Thai food has never looked and tasted so good!

There is a large assortment of empanadas, from meat options like chorizo and chicken, to vegetarian like corn and onion, to sweet options too like apples. The menu also boasts lots of great drinks including mate tea! Lucky us, the empanadas we ordered weren't in stock so we had to wait ~10 for freshly baked ones. They came out buttery and piping hot, even with little hand-stamped letters on them so you know what you're eating, and it was so delicious. Most are about $5.50 each. Add oregano chimichurri for a bit extra if you want or pair with a tea, but these empanadas really hit the snacky spot. Lots of wooden tables with fresh flowers make Pampas a great space to chat with friends or to sit and do some work. The most standout feature was the friendly and efficient staff who seem to build connections with everybody who walks in the door. Worth a drive to Castro Valley! I most recently tried their peppermint mocha and lavender latte, both of which I got iced. They were delicious!! I'm a really big fan of minty chocolatey drinks and I thought the peppermint mocha was done really well for an iced version. The lavender latte was actually a pleasant surprise for me! I wasn't expecting to like it so much and the lavender and coffee were really balanced. The chicken gyro was good as well! It came with a sauce and was packed with veggies, which I appreciate. I do wish they had cucumbers in their gyros too though. Overall great experience :)

I'm not in Castro Valley very often, but when I am I stop by Cafe Rumi. It's a charming, cozy cafe…read morein an otherwise plain strip mall. It's a bit tight inside, but there is seating of various configurations. It's pretty easy to find what you need, like utensils, napkins, & water. There is free Wi-Fi & power strips, which are appreciated. The service is friendly and quick. My orders typically complete within 5-10 minutes. The drinks are pretty good. If you've never had any sort of pink chai, then I'd suggest the Pink Chai Latte. I had mine hot, and it was nicely foamed & sweetened. I also enjoyed the Peppermint Mocha, though the flavors were a bit subtler than I'd prefer. The food is fine. There aren't too many Mediterranean options in town (that I know), but you can probably find better if you go farther out. I liked the pita & yogurt in the Gyros (Beef & Lamb) Wrap, but the actual meat & veggies were just adequate. The Saffron Chicken Platter was a lot saucier & more tangy than I was prepared for.. an interesting dish but not one I'd get again.
