I haven't had Baskin Robbins for over 20 years. I came to pick up an ice cream cake for a birthday and to see if I can use a Dunkin Donuts e-gift card here because they are the same company. When I asked one of the staff, they weren't sure and had to ask another staff. They told me as long as it scans it should work. Well it did, no issues at all. We got a 1/2 sheet strawberry ice cream cake for $53.95. The staff even offered to write, "happy birthday." They were really nice throughout the whole experience. I didn't get to try the cake but friends said it was very sweet. My family and I went to this Baskin Robbin's Castro Valley location for ice cream after a hot day, hoping to enjoy ourselves, not knowing we would come back home disappointed. When we walked in, there were two girls working. The girls were rude from the get-go. As soon as we walked in, they seemed annoyed and bothered. I got an ice cream, but as soon as I started eating it, I realized it was unbearably sweet. So I walked up to one of the girls and politely asked for an exchange since I couldn't finish my ice cream (mind you, I only had three bites before stopping, so the ice cream was barely eaten). She shook her head and said, "We can't do that. If you want another ice cream, you have to pay again." I'm sorry, but if the ice cream was inedible because it was unbearably sweet, I should be expected to pay full price for another ice cream? It just doesn't make any sense. I understand that the ice cream was about $6 per scoop, however, if a customer can barely eat the ice cream because of a quality issue, I don't think it's unreasonable to offer a replacement scoop. Also, the issue wasn't really the $6, it was the attitude and the lack of willingness to accommodate a simple customer service request. Instead, I ended up throwing the ice cream away, which was disappointing and honestly left a bad impression. They didn't apologize for the experience and weren't even nice about it. They were rolling their eyes, and when we asked for their names so we could talk to their supervisor about our experience, one of the girls responded, "Tell her that the brown and white girl were working on this day." They were clearly young, probably in high school, judging by their attitude, but that does not excuse their rudeness. Look, it's Baskin Robbin's, it's a chain. The flavors are plentiful and they make tons of cake options here. I was able to order a custom cake online and have it ready within 24 hours. They offer many size and customizations it's pretty straightforward. Also their employees were very helpful as I called to see if there were any cakes that I could pick up immediately that fit my needs. When you order a cake online I will say that their "sheet" sizing is not traditional sheet cake measurements so keep that in mind as the cake may end up smaller than expected. For example their quarter sheet size cake measures 4"x6" but a real quarter sheet baking pan is 9"x13". Big difference, basically half and very confusing. The interior is sort of dated but there is some seating, they have several freezers loaded with cakes. read more

This location does not honor their agreement with AARP, which allows members to get a free cone with one paid cone. I called the location about this several weeks ago. They knew nothing about it. I then called AARP, and they verified that this specific location had the aforementioned agreement with AARP and that AARP would be looking into it. Today, several weeks later, I called this location back to see if anything had changed. The woman who answered the phone remembered me and said that their manager still had been given no information about the AARP promotion from the franchisee or the corporation. Well, all they had to do was to call AARP to find out what the problem was. They chose not to. Therefore, I chose to thank them with this review. The driveways are small and narrow, so you might have to wait to enter or exit. The parking area is really tight too. So be aware and careful when entering the lot, if your car isn't angled at the right angle, it might take 3-4 tries to get it in a parking space correctly. First of all...OMYGAWD the Milky Way flavor is the best thing I have ever tasted! I've literally been craving it every day since I first tried it last week. It's chocolate caramel perfection without the overwhelming taste of chocolate (which I favor vanilla more... but love the chocolate here). As for the service, that could use a bit of work. They're friends with each other, just not the customers. When I was there with a few of my friends and deciding on flavors (chatting with each other), we get yelled at and rushed to order...not very pleasant. I enjoy Baskin-Robins! I have been going to this Baskin-Robbins location since I was little and I have never had a bad experience. I typically go to Baskin-Robbins for a quick ice cream and the ice cream is always delicious! The servers are generally friendly and helpful. I have also gotten ice cream cakes at Baskin-Robbins. In fact, when I was younger, I always would get ice cream cakes from this location for birthday cakes for my birthday because I didn't like regular cake. I always had wonderful cakes that not only tasted delicious but they looked beautiful as well. The cake decorators always made the cakes to the way that I wanted them and I was always impressed with that! The only downside about Baskin-Robbins is that the prices are a little expensive for their portions and that is why I am deducting one star.
