I would say this store has potential. From their sample flight, I've tried malted chocolate, Kapi, Malai, Banana Gulab and Lotis and Rose. I wanted to give them 5 stars for the flavors - Kapi was definitely a strong coffee, Malai has the classic Indian flavots of cardamom and saffron and the pistacchio flavor was abundant. Banana gulab tasted like eating fresh bananas. Lotis and Rose was also flavorful. The space could use some TLC. There were 2 customers taking some thing to go during my visit, but even if the store was not busy, I needed to clean the table I was using. There were only 2 tables inaide, one that coupd seat 6-8 people, and a small round table that we used. Will I come back? I would not, hence the 3 stars, not because I needed to clean the table, but because the ice cream themselves were too sweet for me. I hope they can nudge down on the sugar.
Great spot for indian-inspired ice cream in the east bay. We got the flight to try 5 different flavors and a doggy cup. Everything was excellent- the original kulfi flavor was definitely the standout and tasted just like a Matka kulfi you might get on the streets of India. I'm glad they're constantly experimenting with new combinations - can't wait to come back and try more!
We visited Koolfi Creamery for the first time recently and it was a great experience. I was thoroughly impressed by the unique ice cream flavors and thought the dessert options were creative. They do limit you to 2 samples, but I suppose that is another excuse to come back and try out new ice cream flavors. I ended up getting a mango flavored ice cream and it had a vibrant, fruity flavor and was quite refreshing. Customer service was friendly and adequate, although the shop seemed understaffed. I wish they had more seating indoors and outdoors, but they have a few tables and benches. The decor is bright and welcoming and appears to match the shop's overall vibe. We enjoyed the ice cream treats quite a bit and opted to purchase 2 more pints of other flavors to bring back home. I'd definitely recommend checking out Koolfi Creamery and I'm looking forward to visiting the SF location someday too.
Koolfi creamery offers an array of unique ice cream flavors with an Indian twist! They also offer an array of different items like other desserts and coffee. Came here after visiting Habibis Birria because nothing beats a sweet treat after a meal. 2 samples is allowed for each person. I tried their guava and toasted marshmallow. My partner tried mango lassi and koolfi. All great flavors! For me, it was a tough choice. I ultimately chose the guava fresh which had a nice guava taste with a hint of spice from the Indian red chilis. Never thought I'd enjoy spicy ice cream, but this was great! My partner got the mango lassi milkshake which tasted really good! A strong taste of fresh mangoes made into a creamy milkshake. I saw they have banana pudding with gulab jamuns as a flavor. I didn't see it this time, but I hope I came try it one day!
This is a Indian-inspired ice cream spot with about 15 flavors on the menu and honestly, I hadn't heard of most of them before. I would've loved to sample a few before deciding, but there was just one person working and she was pretty tied up since it was a Saturday afternoon. My friend and I each went with two scoops in a bowl (about $20 total for both of us). Between the two of us, we tried four different flavors and they were all really good unique, but in the best way. The shop itself is clean, with a little bit of bench seating outside and just one table with three chairs. It definitely feels more like a grab-and-go spot than a place to hang out. That said, the one employee running the show did a great job keeping things moving. If they had one more person working and maybe a couple more tables, this would've been an easy five-star experience.
Every ice cream flavor was made with love! The flavors you can't think ever going together, they have made it happen. Jackfruit and coconut? It tasted so good! It's a summer special so try it before it's gone. The flight came out to be around $15 but it was worth it. We liked lychee rose as well and guava with hint of chilli was family favorite, so unique and no flavor disappointed. You can tell they are made with high quality ingredients. I wish they were open past 9pm.

Guava chili is subtle chili flavor and it's so good and fruit forward. Loved this too. Classic mango you can't go wrong. Watermelon sorbet wasn't too icy and was really flavorful. Looking forward to coming back and trying more flavors!

The owner let us know she's still setting up but we are more than welcome to hangout in the patio until they did and she opened the gate for us. It was hot so we were super thankful for the hospitality. After they opened we tried their flavors and you get two scoops per person. This is pretty standard these days especially after Covid. We tried the mango lassi and guava red chilli. Both were delicious but I would recommend mango lassi if you're a first timer. What I ended up trying was the Gulab Jamun Sundae. Let me tell you it was bomb dot com. I was initially disappointed by the price for the portion, but after eating it I understood why it was so small. The flavors were super decadent and rich. That small amount was definitely enough for this sundae. I would recommend trying it at some point during your adventures here at Koolfi. One last bit, there is limited indoor seating and a handful of outdoor seating. Its definitely not a come during peak time with friends place but a pick up and go spot. As for parking you can park in the surrounding neighborhoods so be prepared for a short walk.

And it had donut pieces in it, so was really tasty Salted caramel- another really strong flavor, very caramel-y Cookies and cream- good but needed more cookie flavor Lotus rose - my least favorite. I wanted to like it because who doesnt like pink ice cream, but was lacking flavor You order and can tast 2 samples (max/person). I tasted the classic flavor. And it wasn't for me. But can see why a lot of reviews like it.
I've had Koolfi Creamery bookmarked for awhile and was surprised that it was next door to the birria restaurant we were eating at! This establishment is LGBTQ+ friendly and POC women owned :) All of the flavors sounded so good and we were really intrigued! We couldn't decide what to get, so we opted for the sampler flight! It comes with your choice of 5 flavors and it was perfect for our party of two! We chose: watermelon mint, cardamom, malai koolfi, guava, and mango lassi. It was a hot day, so the ice cream was melting fast. All of the flavors were delicious and one of a kind! We enjoyed all of them! Our favorites were the Malai Koolfi and Cardamom. They have a hot foods menu and I would like to come back and try something from there as well. The also have a gulab jamun sundae, which sounded awesome! We will definitely be back again to try their other items and grab a pre-packed pint to take back home!
Great ice cream! I tried the Klassic Koolfi and the seasonal burgundy cherry and chocolate for my 2 samples. I ended up getting a scoop of the mango lassi ice cream, and it tasted exactly like a mango lassi so no complaints there. The flavors are forward, and the texture is creamy. I liked looking through the recipe books on the table in the back. There is a minimum $10 you must spend to use credit card.

Great experience! We went to their flagship location on a Wednesday night, and ordered a tropical flight of ice cream and a watermelon, mint, and ginger float. Both were delicious. The ginger ale used with the mint and watermelon ice cream was very strong, almost like ginger beer, and the flavor was very good. The ice cream flight was great, my favorite flavors were the rose lychee and the guava chili, but my kids loved the mango lassi the most. Everything was creamy and fresh tasting. Sometime when it's not so hot I want to try the cheese toast, so I will definitely have to come back. The patio was very cute. There were a few tables, and even some space for dogs, which can be hard to find with some restaurants in the area. I also love how the business is women owned! read more

I was so happy to hear about this south asian lgbt+ owned creamery from my sister, and I have to say it did not disappoint. The service here was some of the best i've had. I could tell there was a lot of love and passion put behind this business. The various ice cream flavors are so inventive and unlike anything i've seen at any other ice cream shop and everything is made fresh in house! They also allow you to sample the various flavors before deciding on what you want, which was really helpful. Since it was my first time, I landed on a classic koolfi ice cream with chai affogato, which was so sweet and tasty! I will definitely be going back to try some of their other fun flavors soon. read more

I ordered The Noodler, a layered Indian sundae that was rich, flavorful, and unlike anything I've had before. They also offer free samples (huge bonus) and an impressive variety of creative flavors that make it hard to choose just one. The service? Wonderful. The vibe? Warm, welcoming, and full of character. We were taken care of from the moment we walked in, and without a doubt I will be back again. Highly recommend giving this place a try if you're in the mood for something different and delicious. Stars: 3.5 I've been eyeing this place and finally got to try it today. You get two samples per person. The ice cream shop serves unique Indian inspired flavors. I ended up getting one single scoop of the guava with hint of chili. I enjoyed the flavor and texture but it was the tiniest scoop I've ever had. I feel like I finished it in less than two minutes. I was sad that it was gone so quickly! You need to spend a minimum of $10 to use credit, so good thing my husband always carries cash. The staff helping us were friendly. Day Visited: Thursday at 8 PM Price Range: $6-$9 Parking: Street & neighborhood parking Ordered: Single Scoop of Banana Gulab Jamun and Single Scoop of Cake Batter TLDR: This is a place that you should definitely try not just because the ice cream is great, but because the owner truly puts the best representation of their flavors forward! Overall, this place has incredible service that makes the wait worthwhile no matter how busy. The ice cream offered are all flavors that feel new, yet homey. Loved this unique international ice cream shop focused on Indian flavors. I tried the mango lassi ice cream in a sugar waffle cone which was perfectly creamy and the cone was amazingly crunchy! I also tried the Oreo milkshake and to my surprise - it was very light and not that sweet, it was delicious. Lastly, I tried the Kodak "strong" chai which was a punch of ginger flavor and so yummy! They also have many additional flavors of ice cream pints in the freezer if you'd like to take some home to try later. The sweet young lady working the register was very hardworking and professional - two qualities that are hard to come by at your typical ice cream shop. The store itself was also very clean and vibrant making you want to keep hanging out at! read more
Delicious, unique ice cream flavors. Dropped by on a Saturday afternoon after getting lunch elsewhere and it was pretty busy inside with people eating their ice cream, but no one was in line. The guy behind the counter was super friendly and patient in explaining the different flavors we were trying. I ended up getting a half-and-half scoop of the klassic koolfi and the guava chili and absolutely loved both. The guava chili had a pretty good kick of heat, and both flavors of ice cream were complex and interesting. Only complaint is that it was a pretty small amount of ice cream in my cup. Definitely feel like these guys could be a bit more generous with the amount they serve. Other than that, I'd recommend checking this place out and trying the different flavors. It's worth it to find a new, unexpected favorite flavor and introduce some variety into your ice cream rotation. read more

I decided to stop by since it was along the way of my route on Wednesday afternoon. There were a few customers ahead of me, so it took at least a 5 minute wait to reach our turn. I was told I'm limited to only two samples, so I tried the raspberry black pepper, which I personally liked because it was sweet with a savory kick, and the mom's cardamom which was heavy on cardamom flavor. They had another butterscotch with cashew praline flavor that I wish I could've sampled. I ultimately decided to get a split single (which is $6.50 before tax and tip) of matcha and raspberry (a new flavor) and kheer rice pudding (also a new flavor, seasonal), and paid via cash since they have a $10 minimum for using credit card. The matcha and raspberry just had hints of raspberry that I couldn't really tasted and mostly tastes like matcha. It was still good if you like raspberry. I really liked the kheer rice pudding flavor, more than I like the actual dessert, as it was sweet and savory at the same time. I still enjoy their ice cream, and they offer various foods including sundaes, toast, and coffee. However, it seemed to me like the portions have gotten smaller relative to the price and they are not as generous with samples as they used to be. read more

I was passing through the San Leandro area and of course I needed a sweet treat. What drew me to Koolfi Creamery was the variety of unique flavors they offered. And when I say unique, I mean flavor combinations I've never imagined together before. It's a cute little family-run ice cream shop and it seems to be popular in the neighborhood because I saw some regulars ordering catering and buying ice cream by the pints! They allow you to sample 2 flavors per person and have rotating flavors. I got a Split Single Scoop which was $1 more than a regular single scoop. I got a half scoop of the Klassic Koolfi (pistachios, walnuts, saffron, cardamom, and rose water) and half scoop of the Chai flavor (can't remember the exact name of it). I'd say the scoops were pretty generous so it was a reasonable price especially for having such unique flavors. When I first tried the Klassic Koolfi, it was good, but I didn't realize how much I'd like it until I was a few bites into my actual scoop. It was pretty floral and aromatic so it took a little bit to grow on me. However, it quickly grew on me and I loved how creamy the Klassic Koolfi was. I loved how I tasted something different in each bite which just shows how nuanced this flavor was. My favorite thing was searching for the little pistachio bits like they were treasure. The Chai flavor was good, but I actually didn't sample it before getting it because there were so many other flavors I wanted to try. I just assumed it would be a safe option to go with. I liked the flavor of it, but compared to the Klassic Koolfi, the texture was slightly icy. I assumed this was the case since there was more water content in the ice cream from the tea. I would go out of my way to come back to this place again to get ice cream by the scoop or by the pint (and already have)! I would highly recommend it. read more

The kulfi is so creamy and not too sweet. The classic flavor and the mango lassi really stood out. Service is great, about two samples per person. They also do a split scoop which is always a plus. The South Indian filter coffee was a great afternoon pick me up. Overall great dessert, will definitely be going again. read more
1.14.2024 - Dessert time! After having a heavy brunch, we needed something sweet and refreshing. There aren't much dessert spots in San Leandro, but seeing Koolfi on Yelp with high reviews got us excited to try. This place will be nice during the hot summer days as they offer a cute little patio seating in front of the store entrance. From coffees, teas, pastries, sandwiches and ice creams, Koolfi is a spot that offers a pick-me-up for any age group. For ice cream lovers, you're allowed up to 2 free tastings and if you just want to take it home, they offer a freezer with prepackaged pints. Talk about exotic flavors! I couldn't choose what I wanted so my bestie and I decided to each get the ice cream flight. 5 flavors for $15. Very interesting flavors. Ingredients that I would have never mixed together were available. One thing that stood out was the black sesame with orange zest. Was it enjoyable? Personally, it's an acquired taste and it's not up my alley. 1. Black sesame with orange zest 2. Gulab Jamun 3. Guava Chili 4. Mango Lassi 5. Roasted banana 6. South Indian filter coffee 7. Fairy glitter 8. Butterscotch Cashew Praline Out of everything, our favorite was #8 Butterscotch Cashew Praline. Love it here, we love a small business that also supports pride! All the flavors are so flavorful and strong. It's so cute with the pride decor and the staff is also so friendly always! I enjoyed the original flavor and the malted chocolate. The flavors are all very original you gotta try them all! They also offer flights of koolfi to share and pintes to take home! read more

Unique flavors of Indian ice cream Came here twice and got these flavors: - guava chili - cardamom - butterscotch cashew toffee - coffee and chicory The flavors were light and bright but I would prefer more strength in flavor and the richness in texture is slightly lacking. Due to all the unique flavors, I did want to sample more flavors however you're limited to 2 so you might make a blind decision on case you didn't like your samples which is what I ended up doing. eventually I think this policy would deter potential return/ regular customers, as I feel like I wouldn't go out of my way for something that I possibly might not like. Mumbai toast was flavorful and comforting. Local neighborhood Creamery... I gotta agree the high ratings associated with Koolfi Creamery. The hospitality, the warmness projected from the two owners is very welcoming. They are very friendly and patient, akin to your favourite aunt... The venue doesn't have a lot of space inside, most definitely an issue if a big party comes in. There is a decent amount of room outside, but if the weather is not favorable, also a bit of an issue. I'm a big fan of the the Ice Cream here. Lots of unique Indian inspired / fusion flavors. Do they use eggs or gelatin in their ice creams?
We use eggs in our dairy ice cream made French custard style. Vegan ice creams have no eggs or any animal products.
