There's a large parking lot with additional street parking nearby. The inside of the shop looked clean, and there's both indoor and outdoor seating available. This visit was long overdue. It's right near home, has been around since 1950, and somehow I'd never made it in until now. The prices are very reasonable with a double scoop sundae for $8.95 and a two-scoop bowl for $7.50 is hard to complain about these days. They did seem a little understaffed for how busy it was, and with the crowd, the place could've used a bit more attention, especially the outdoor trash area. My family and I frequent this Loard's location because of the excellent customer service and generous single scoop portion! I also love their fresh waffle cones. We sometimes eat inside and it always brings back nostalgia from my childhood days enjoying ice cream in Loard's in Alameda. The shop is a bit outdated, and could use some cleaning on the outside. But the ice cream was excellent and the staff were super friendly and helpful. As expected, there was a line. But the two servers moved the line pretty quick! I asked for a "Black and White Sundae" w/ 2 scoops and no nuts. They ran out of marshmallow, so they offered to load it up with caramel and hot fudge. It was over 80*F that afternoon, and they were giving us small cups to catch the drips. I enjoyed my sundae at a small table inside. But they also have several tables and chairs outside. A true Bay Area fave, I've been going to Loards since I was little but it wasn't until I got older that I discovered this location. A little shocking because this seems to be their factory location. This is located right across from the Marina outlets in an industrial area by the car dealership. They have a small parking lot and street parking available. The shop itself is small with a couple of tables inside but more tables outside on their patio. Prices are pretty in line with other Loards locations and other ice cream shops in general. They are pretty generous with their scoops here. I usually satisfy my sweet tooth enough with the kids scoop (not on the menu). They have all the usual flavors here along with some seasonal ones. They also sell pints and quarts of ice cream here if you want to take it to go to enjoy at home. It's between Loards and Clancys as my favorite local ice creamery. We are an ice cream family so when I say I like Loards, it's with much affection and distinction. Honest, great flavors at very reasonable prices. We've always had excellent service at this location. Champagne sherbet and lemon chiffon as well as mocha almond fudge are my favorite. This is my favorite Loards as they have all the flavors since they are the factory store. They have improved their patio significantly and it makes it much more welcoming. My one request is to hose down the patio once a day to remove the sticky stains, but the tables are kept clean. Thank you. No bathroom so be aware. read more

I've been a Loard's fan since my childhood years in the 90s. Flash forward 10 years later, I'm with my toddler whose favorite word is "ice cream" and we're close to the Loard's location on Marina Blvd. in San Leandro. I decided to make a quick stop--a nice trip down memory lane and a happy toddler? Sign me up! The parking lot was busy, with their company trucks in the lot, and a few open slips for customers. It's not in the greatest shape but not a total deal breaker. I walked into a clean and bright interior, you can tell they clean everyday and get in all the nooks and cranny's. Walking in, a leaving customer said "Well they don't have any sherbet, I bought it all!" She wasn't lying, she walked out with boxes of ice cream, assuming she loves sherbet! I purchased my favorite combo from childhood-two scoops in a cake cone, one coconut pineapple scoop and one vanilla scoop. On first taste, I was instantly transported to my childhood. The ice cream tasted the same, if not, even better! Super creamy, deep flavors, and something secret in there that makes it perfect, I'm sure! My son gave his two thumbs up too. Literally! I'm glad I decided to try Loard's again. I'm not sure why I never came in being that it's so close to where I currently live. Post lunch milk shake! Clancy's is closed on Wednesdays, and I wasn't going to be denied! We swung over to Loards and got our fix. The shop is in front of their production facility. There's a small parking lot and plenty of street parking. Not sure what happens at night though. We were greeted from the back room as we entered. Apparently, the person who works the counter has other responsibilities as well. She came out very quickly, was friendly and asked how she could help us. The shop is a throwback to ice cream parlors of olde. There was an open case with sodas and a coffin case with plenty of "pints" & "quarts". The flavor menu was on a board above and behind the counter. The service freezer was a older type design where each rectangle and two doors that were hinged and could be opened separately or completely removed from the opening. The doors were not see-through unlike a more contemporary ice cream parlor. She got a Champagne Sherbet Freeze which she thoroughly enjoyed. It started with a new can of Club Soda, the remainder was presented to us when the drink was completed. I got a Coffee Shake. It was all ice cream, no milk. Probably thick enough to stay in the cup upside down and thin enough to go through a straw. Not a bad deal for $5.95. Definitely worth a visit when in the area and craving ice cream! I've lived in San Leandro almost my entire life and somehow hadn't gone to this Loard's before last week. Dropped by with my fiancé on a whim as we walked past it (encouraged by how hot it was that day) and there was no one else in the shop. The girl behind the counter was super nice and let my fiancé try a sample, and was just generally really pleasant. Unfortunately, they were out of the horchata ice cream, so I went with a two-scoop cup of black raspberry and banana. Absolutely delicious, creamy ice cream, and generous scoops. My fiancé went with two scoops of the caramel cashew in a cone. There are a ton of different flavors on the menu, along with shakes, sundaes, and seasonal specials. I love how both the retro inside and outside of the shop are really well maintained and a throwback to the days of soda shops. It's nice being in here and enjoying a moment's escape from the rat race with a simple scoop (or two, or three) of the flavors that make us happy.
