I've been coming here all my life. At times I felt the shop could be improved. The correct location certainly needs some TLC. But the bathrooms are well taken care of. It still feels like a small town ice cream shop and most importantly still rich, creamy, smooth, sweet ice cream. These days I take my kids in regularly and recently one of the servers (Gabe I think) remembered our order. Just a nice little touch on top of the quality ice cream. Even though I grew up in the county, I never had the infamous Tucker's. I was expecting a bit more pizazz with the flavors, but the samples and scoop I had didn't seem much different than a grocery-bought one. The service was great and I really appreciated the enthusiasm of the young gentleman helping me. There was a sign saying the temperature of the freezers was quite high, which is why their ice creams are so creamy, but I guess creamy means they'll melt as soon as your handed your treat. We have been coming to tuckers for a long time. Back lot parking if you can find a spot, you can walk into the back door from the lot. I haven't been in a while. I used to get a large sundae and share. So many flavors and has been around forever. Today I decided to go with young coconut, macapuno. They let you sample and decide on a flavor. Small bites of coconut and it was fine and creamy just the way I like it. I love coming here during a warm spring evening after dinner. read more

They have competition in town from Baskin-Robbins, Loards, CookieBar, and soon.....Cold Stone Creamery. The last time I was at Tucker's it was a slow day. I peeked inside, saw a few people, so I decided to go in. Having ice cream at Tucker's is a hometown tradition. But FYI, it's not the original location. That's why it doesn't look like an ice cream shop. The current Tucker's Ice Cream shop used to be a restaurant. The old location is down Park Street, at the corner of Webb Ave. Service was great! Four people were working behind the counter. I asked for 2 scoops in a cup.....chocolate fantasy and mint chip. Price $8.00. I sat down at a small table to enjoy my ice cream. Hmm, I didn't experience any "super creamed" ice cream. It's not super dense and creamy. It does have a sweeter taste, but not much else. I'm not sure if the new owners of Tucker's changed anything. I heard that some old flavors are gone, and new ones were added. We had a milkshake and 2 cups of ice cream. I can only speak for my 2 junior scoops of ice cream - Hot Tin Roof and Spumoni. Spumoni is cherry, chocolate and pistachio flavors and Hot Tin Roof was chocolatey. The junior scoops were perfect for me as I wanted to try different flavors. We went to Bubble Planet. Th kids specifically asked to go to Tuckers, for their mango ice cream. Sooooo good. They also realized the burgundy cherry is amazing as well. Both are super nostalgic from my childhood. I don't think you can go wrong with any flavors here. Also, it was good timing because they also had Zinfandel flavor. I'm not sure it's the same but years back we went to a Rosenblum winery event and they served a Zinfandel ice cream from Tuckers. They also have an extensive selection of ice cream cakes by the slice, which you don't often see. 3/5: I tasted a bunch of flavors. I've grown up with Tuckers, but stopped going there about a year ago due to the quality of ice cream. They do not make their own whipped cream anymore, it's canned. I still have no idea why the upstairs area and the area near the window is closed. It feels like the most depressing ice cream shop ever. The quality of the ice cream is not great. Even my 6-year-old (who likes anything with sugar) said the sprinkles were stale and the ice cream tasted old. I had a completely different ice cream and it had a freezer burn taste. And it's overpriced to add insult to injury. Sorry Tuckers. I love supporting locally owned businesses but I wont be back until the quality changes. read more

For the past two weeks, I've been ordering sundaes from here. Two Saturdays ago, it was a double scoop sundae: the ice cream flavors I chose were Pralines & Cream and Tin Roof Sundae. Sadly, they ran out of nuts for the sundae. I picked hot fudge, rainbow sprinkles, whipped cream, and a cherry. That flavor combination along with the toppings I chose were absolutely delicious! The week after, I had a single scoop sundae and chose Tin Roof Sundae as my ice cream scoop flavor. Thankfully, they had nuts, so I had that as one of my toppings along with hot fudge, whipped cream, and a cherry on top. The line moves fast, the portions are alright, although it's difficult to find parking. Thankfully, it's not hard to find a seat in there. Definitely a good place to treat yourself! read more

This review is for two different visits recently. The first time, I tried both the honey lavender, which is quite sweet and honestly tastes more like sweet cream with hints of lavender, and the marble butterscotch which is also really sweet. I ultimately opted to get the honey lavender, single scoop in a cup. It's soft and smooth in texture, and I feel Tucker's single scoop size is quite large, so maybe a junior scoop would've actually been adequate for anyone not looking for a large treat. The second time, I tried the pistachio, pumpkin cheesecake, strawberries and cream, toasted almond, strawberries and cream, and toasted almond before deciding what to get. Pistachio - you can taste the actual pistachio, which I thought was nice for texture. Pumpkin cheesecake - quite sweet, and actually surprisingly sour. It was a stronger-tasting flavor than I expected. Strawberries and cream - very sweet, it's more like vanilla cream with strawberry jam on it. Toasted almond - quite nutty, I liked it a lot as it was sort of savory but also sweet. I ultimately opted for a double junior scoop of pumpkin cheesecake and toasted almond and was pleasantly surprised by how much ice cream they packed in. The workers have been friendly and patient, and did not put any limit on how many samples I could get. They also have a few seasonal flavors that change periodically. There's a lot of indoor tables including an upstairs level, but not any outdoor tables that seem to belong directly to Tucker's; however, if you walk just a short distance, you can easily find benches along the street. read more

Went on a sunny spring weekend, so the line was long and full of families with kids coming from a soccer game I think. There were lots of flavors to choose from. The chocolate dipped waffle cone was yummy, they dip it in front of you. I got some kind of chocolate/brownie flavor (I don't remember exactly) and it was quite melted when it was handed to me. I love a good ice cream, especially if it's got local flavor and some quirks. Tucker's fits the bill. Along Park Street in Alameda, the space looks like an old Spanish villa and they got some quirky signs and slogans ("Life is short, eat dessert first"). And the ice cream is great! I got the fudge brownie on a cake cone - smooth, creamy with big chewy chunks of brownie. It was so smooth, they had to put it in a cup with the cone atop like a hat. I also noticed their "baby cones" which are tiny little cones for babies. That's cool. So I decided to get 2 baby scoops. And i got a single scoop for my friend. The 2 baby scoops was extremely small comparing to the single scoop. I would not known if I didn't order the single scoop. Guess what?! they are same price. So I told the server this is not right. He was like that's the baby scoops. He didn't do anything about. I hope the owner of Tucker's ice cream would check on this. I've heard this place is a staple so had high hopes. It's more of an old school vibe here, and on this Saturday night, there was a huge line. I really wish these joints that experience long lines have some sort of menu that's visible further down the line so we have something to look at. I hate it when people get to the front and take forever to order, especially after they have to sample like 5 different flavors. I get anxious when I get to the front. I just went for the tried and true pistachio. The kiddos went for standard choco chips. Mines was good. Nothing too memorable, but better than average. I'm not sure if I was feeling the vibe in this place though. I'm more of a McConnell's type, but for sure I'll always recommend a neighborhood ice cream joint. read more

I've been to this shop a few times, and while the ice cream itself is fine, the customer service left a lot to be desired. When my partner and I arrived, I was standing in the store waiting to be helped- no greeting, no acknowledgment, nothing. I passed by the ice cream case, and I was ignored entirely by both the managers who were at the register chatting and the two tween-ish employees who didn't even offer a greeting when they saw me. The moment my white, taller partner walked in, the manager looked up, signaled the staff, and suddenly we were asked how we could be helped. It was clear that the level of attention changed depending on who entered the store. This experience left me with questions about racial bias in this store. I hope management reflects on how staff treat customers and ensures that everyone is greeted and served equally, regardless of appearance. So disappointed, this was my preferred ice cream parlor of Alameda. A tradition in town! A few years ago the place was sold and immediately the taste was changed, but some ice creams were still good, as strawberry. I tasted today mango flavor and it fest like I was eating something so artificial, amazingly bad.
