This bakery is a local favorite - I too, love the selection of bread, pastries and desserts. I also prefer mini over regular cupcakes so definitely an added bonus for me. On one occasion, however, I was given a carrot cupcake straight from the fridge, and the taste was nowhere near as good as one served at room temperature. Having said that: 1. I bought a few items as a gift requested a small bag with handles to carry them safely 2. Staff offered a large bag with handles for $1.10 (?). I declined, the small box would probably slide all over the bag during transport 3. The staff packed my box to go in a small bag without handles. 4. Cupcakes got damaged during transport. The cupcakes weren't secured in the box with paper or other packaging to prevent them from shifting during transit. Customer experience 2/5. read more

My friends got me a very lovely fruit tart from La Farine for my birthday. I can't speak for the service or the ambiance as I have never been to the store, my friends brought it to me in the South Bay. The tart was very lovely, not too sweet. The shell was perfectly crisp. My partner and I wound up eating it slowly over several days and it still held up pretty well. Of course, the custard started to soften the shell but it was still very tasty. 5 stars for their fruit tart!!! A full size tart is $29 and the tartlet is $5.25 (as of 3/4/26). The tartlet is a perfect little snack and the full size tart would be great to share with others or treat someone for their birthday. The fruits on top (strawberries, mangoes, kiwi, and blackberries) were so fresh, juicy, and sweet. The pastry bottom was buttery and flaky. This fruit tart gets me doing my happy food dance. GenEve: moist chocolate genoise cake, layered with rich milk chocolate mousse, finished with a bittersweet chocolate ganache. a chocolate lovers delight! no alcohol Morning Bun: croissant dough rolled thin, spread with brown sugar and cinnamon, rolled into a log, then cut and baked in muffin pans...nothing short of decadent. my very first time here. i was parked right out front and seen how busy they were; people were just going in and out of there. I walked inside and i'm so indecisive they had so many options. I ended up getting a slice of carrot cake, chocolate cheesecake, a raspberry walnut scone i believe and a cookie that has chocolate chunks, almonds and dried apricots. let me start off by saying the carrot cake is the best carrot cake ive ever had in my life. It was moist and i hate frosting but the frosting wasn't too much it was fantastic i should have gotten a whole cake. i have yet to get reviews for the cheesecake and scone but the cookie was also interesting and was good too. will definitely be back!! read more

I really enjoyed my visit here. I drove to Oakland early for a birthday party, and walked around Piedmont Ave to find some pastries. I came here since not much was open, and I walked in and immediately became overwhelmed by the options for breads and baked goods made fresh daily. The staff were very patient and kind when I could not decide, and I ended up getting a few savory and sweet items to go along with my pour over single origin coffee. There is no iced coffee option, which I was a little surprised by (and I heard others try to order iced as well), but not a ding on their coffee quality at all. As a child I was lucky enough to live within walking distance and thankfully the quality has stood the test of time. The morning bun is a sweet tooth's dream come true but if you want something a bit more savory they have plenty of options as well. Their Brioche is truly something to behold. Many bakeries drench their fruit tarts in unnecessary sugar and simple syrup to hide the fact that the fruit isn't super fresh, but I loved how La Farfine's tart isn't super sweet, so that the fruit has a chance to shine. The tart is loaded with fruit; I would say that if you are more of a custard person, this might not be the fruit tart for you (My husband commented that he wished there was more custard). The flavors felt bright, fresh, and not too sweet, and my friend who graciously brought the fruit tart to our home said the bakery uses "special butter" -- I'm guessing special French imported butter? I wish this wasn't so far from where I live! I'd like to go to the bakery to try their other offerings, but for now, I'll just say the fruit tart was outstanding. read more

This is my go to spot for baked goods. I love that they open at 7am and right next to Peets so I can pick up morning goodies on my way to work. They offer bread, cupcakes, cookies, tarts, eclairs, croissants and anything that satisfy your morning munchies. I'd want to keep this place a secret as their fruit tarts are to die for. It's my guilty pleasure when I need a pick me up - combination of sweet and healthy with the fruits decoratively spread across the tart. While the store front has limited parking, there is a lot behind the store. Would be lovely if they offered seating. It's more of a grab and go bakery. read more

Love the tarts, cookies, bread. The cakes not so much. While the cakes are finely made, they are bland. The description of the cake, the promise, does not at all match the result. I ordered a Sicilien cake that would have Frangelico liqueur but there is abosolutely no taste of Frangelico. The cake tasted like mild chocolate cake with whipped cream frosting. Also, I just bought a few days ago a Gateau Citron that was to have Napoleon liqueur. Again, there was lemon favor but no taste of the Napoleon liqueur. I confimed with my neighbor that he had the same experience with the 2 cakes, cakes didn't deliver the hazelnut and orange flavors promised. The liqueurs would add a really nice layer of flavor but there is nothing. So, I find the cakes perfectly made but bland. read more

The food was good - sometimes dry and too flaky, but overall speaking a good bakery in terms of food taste and quality. The grey hair older white server in this location, however, destroys the customer experience. If you look through the negative reviews, almost all of them was a result from his racist, discriminatory customer service. I have a visible disability and bring with me my service dog. Said server ignored me for a solid 10 minutes, with no other customers in line! When the other cashier prompted him to tend to me, he made a snide remark: "She has a dog with her!" Well, the ADA requires establishments to allow service dogs, and I find it absolutely distasteful and illegal to refuse service to me based on this. Not to mention that my disability (visual) is very, very obvious! When I asked him whether he had a question about my dog, he said no and slammed the tongs at me! Whoever manages this place - maybe this person is a family friend, or even a manager, but you are exposing yourself to problems if you continue to allow your employee to discriminate against disabled people and POCs! read more

I stopped by to pick up a fresh fruit tart as I was in the area to pick up some paper plates at Safeway for a luncheon. The tart was $29. Service was just ok. The girl helping me wasn't that friendly. But the fresh fruit tart was beautiful and tasted delicious! The fruits were juicy, crust was flakey/buttery, cream custard was not too sweet and had vanilla bean mixed in. I'd definitely get their tart again. It has been awhile since I last visited, but today I was instantly reminded of just how amazing this bakery is! The staff are so so helpful and friendly. I took home two of their savory focaccia breads. Goat cheese, pine nuts, and green onion and kalamata olives and red onion. Warmed up in the toaster oven, they were perfection. Love this bakery & convenient location! I'm disabled, which includes moving slower. I haven't been able to come into the location in a while. I was having a good day and went to get a treat for my partner before the store closed at 5:40pm. I have worked in food service for over 10 years and believe I know what standards of customer service I should receive. I said I haven't been there in a while and the kind young female presenting person of color, who was behind the counter said, "Take your time." Then the other white gray haired male presenting employee accosted me for the next 10 minutes. First by shutting down his co-worker, shouting "No, she cannot take her time, the store is closing soon." (Btw I also identify as a non-binary person of color.) Then continued to make my experience awful by shouting at me and everyone who came after me to hurry up in the rudest manner. Including when a few customers who arrived after me, asked, "When do you close?" He yelled, "5 mins ago!"I looked at my watch and it was 5:45pm and y'all close at 6pm. I gave a two stars instead of one because I appreciated the kindness from the other worker. Also not the bakery's fault, but two other patrons consecutively illegally parked in the disabled parking spot, in front of the store. which i could not use. Was a pretty terrible way to end my one good day out of the house in weeks. read more

The staff were so sweet and were very careful with the bread when putting it away and it looked so pretty. The croissants and varients had an amazing crunch to it and was so buttery. The cream puffs were AMAZING! Filled and very soft and the chocolate just snapped with bites. As for the tart, it was buttery, fruity and it meshed well with everything!
