Arrived at 8:30 for the 9:00 opening. Maybe 20 people in line in front of me. BakeSum takes special care of each order and will stop orders to pack on occasion. I love the Asian fusion of the treats. At these one item in Alameda is not available at the Oakland location. I love the croissubi, mango milk bun, cocobae cookie, black sesame snickerdoodle, garlic cheesy pullapart. The Yuzu tart was good but a bit too tart for me. So happy they are in Alameda. And happy people are supporting!

Went on a saturday morning, and not too long of a line. Had about six people and moved fast, waited less than ten minutes after ordering. Mochi bites are quick, crispy little bites on the outside with the chewy filling on the inside. New renovations created a plexiglass section to watch as the bakers make their stuff. Well, situated in a grocery plaza with ample parking

[3.5 stars] With this being their second location, we had high expectations for this Bake Sum. Got in line at 8:53am for a 9:00am opening with only 11 people in front of us. For people who are familiar with Bay Area lines for good food, arriving that close to opening with less than a dozen people in front is not bad at all ! [+1 star] location and parking. This Bake Sum is in the Alameda Marketplace plaza with lots of parking available in the lot. Should the lot ever get full, park in residential and walk. It's a great part of town. After picking up your box of pastries, you can walk to the water, nearby parks to enjoy, or along Park St to see the various mom and pop shops and other eateries. [+1 star] organized queue, smooth ordering process, and menus available. With only 11 people ahead, it's not too chaotic to monitor the line. Staff made it clear which way the line should face and made sure we stood out of the way of other businesses and didn't block entrances and other doors. While in line, we were able to look at the menus to decide what we wanted. Once we got to the front, the person ringing up the order writes down on a pad and passes it down the line to the next staff member on the line. You pay, and step to the side while you wait for them to package up your order and call your name for pickup. [+1 star] opened on time and friendly service. Before opening, the bakery is covered in drapes. Right at 9am the staff tied the drapes up and started service. Staff was knowledgeable about their products and answered all questions with a smile. [-0.5 star] did not have popular pastries available at opening. We got to the front of the line at 9:20 and were told they did not have the famed Croissubi (as mentioned in the NY Times) and garlic cheesy pull apart. They would have these until later in the day but didn't specify at what time. A little disappointed because this is not their first location so they should know what to do to have their popular items ready to go at opening. Called their Oakland location to find they had the Croissubi available there! [-0.5 star] slow service. Took 30 min from the time of opening to us getting our order. Ordered at 9:20, paid at 9:22, got our name called to pick up our box of goodies at 9:30. Not sure where the hold up is in the service line but again, with this being their second location, we expected things to move along a bit faster. [-0.5 star] display case not accurate. Display case did not show all pastries available. We ordered the mango milk bun, strawberry matcha croissant (which was actually a cruffin), mochi bites, and okonomiyaki danish. Only the latter two were displayed. Overall, pastries were great. Seems like this location is working out kinks since it's on the newer side. Until then, I'd recommend going to their Oakland location with a friend and dropping them off to place the order since parking is tricker in that location. They'll have their popular items ready to go, they open an hour earlier, and there's no line out the door.

Hours: Monday CLOSED Tuesday CLOSED Wednesday CLOSED Thursday CLOSED Friday 9am - Sold out Saturday 9am - Sold out Sunday 9am - Sold out Located in the Alameda Marketplace, this new bakery is a great addition to Alameda. With Asian fusion flavors like jasmine tea milk buns, croissubi, and black sesame snickerdoodles, Bake Sum is bringing flare. With limited hours, expect long lines. This morning, I arrive at 9am and got all of my goods and left at 10:30am. By the time I was able to order, there were a couple of things already sold out. Parking is available via the marketplace parking lot and street parking.

These loan pastries already had dibs on them from other customers. So why not remove them? lol

Waited in line 30 minutes, got to the front at 11:30 after the lady in front of us said she'd take the last three mochi bites. Only option was a ham cheese croissant which is not what I wanted. They've been opened several weekends (F, Sat, Sun ) for weeks now. So they should know the demand by now: Weird they don't make enough pastries to at least last til 2 pm. Plus none of the workers let the long line of people behind us that essentially they were out of everything: I won't be back until they are in full production daily: Two stars for ample parking and a comfortable temperature, making for awesome ambiance.

4.5 Stars. Very, very good. I took advantage of my jet lag and showed up before opening at 8:40AM on Friday where the line was still decent and I got to wait inside. By 8:50AM, the line was out the door. I ordered the: JASMINE TEA MILK BUN - this was the second best item I ordered. I've always enjoyed Jasmine Milk Teas, so this bun hit the spot. It had the texture of a Pineapple Bun, with the inside filling tasting like JMT. JASMINE MOCHI BITE- this I could live without. CROISSUBI - really really good. I can see why it made the NY times. I would absolutely get this again. GARLIC-CHEESY PULL-APART - I could live without this too. I will def come back when I can wake up early again and get their Croissubi and Jasmine Tea Milk Bun again.

Went at opening on Friday morning and was able to get a croissubi, okonomiyaki, and some mochi bites. The okonomiyaki is definitely very savory, with a lot of different flavors going on-a little bit overwhelming personally. The croissubi was my favorite-flaky croissant with a fun twist on a typical musubi. Of the mochi bites we got, the sesame was my favorite. Ate these first before I got to take a pic. Worth a try if you're in the area, but would recommend going early. After purchase the line was out the door behind me.

Wonderful bakery in alameda marketplace! The mango milk bun and almond cake were fantastic! Strawberry matcha croissant and okinomoyaki danish had beautiful lamination and layers. Very short line on a Saturday morning around 10 am and service was quick. There is seating outside the in the marketplace area and parking nearby. Can't wait to return to try the others!

Delicious and unique tasting pastries! Not too long of a wait this morning around 10am and was able to get everything that I wanted. The japanese inspired one tasted just like a Takoyaki in croissant form and was my favorite! Mango milk bun and strawberry matcha croissant so crispy, soft. And flaky all at the same time. I'm really surprised by the reviews -- luckily we didn't have a long wait and thought the pastries were wonderful! Wishing this business the best and will definitely be back to show my support.

Limited days for Alameda, just go to Oakland!

Between the inside seats and the outdoor bench seating, there's plenty of space for a lot of people and when the weather is nice, it's even better. The pastries display was absolutely amazing. Not just their bread offerings, but also their croissants and bombolinis, my gosh it's hard not to throw caution into the wind and order a little of everything. I opted for the matcha croissant, blackberry cream cheese danish, passionfruit bombolini, and vanilla bombolini, and all were amazing and not too sweet. The topper was the ube latte that I got along with everything. Overall, a great pit stop if you're in the area or if you just want to come here because of this place. It's sure to be a good, delicious time.

I love this area of Alameda, populated with so many fun breweries and family-friendly spaces. Would love to try it as a brekky sandwich, but we didn't want to ruin our appetites for festival food lunch..the brekky menu looked amazing including biscuits & gravy, churro French toast sticks, lemon zest French toast, brekky pizza, and the pork & jam (crispy pulled pork, house made blackberry jam, fried egg, honey-buttermilk biscuit with country fried taters...sounds delish!!) They also have a beautiful selection of baked goods, pretzels, packaged breads to-go, lunch AND dinner options including soups, salads, pizzas, kiddo menu, sandwiches, sliders, and more. Now onto the pastries.. the coconut was so thick, light, and creamy and surprisingly backed with flavor 4.8/5, the mango was phenomenal! The fruit inside was so fresh, and well cooked, and the cream inside was a light addition 4.9/5, the pistachio (even though I was crazy excited about it) was just okay. The pistachio flavor was strong enough, but I just felt it could've been better executed when you're offering options like mango and coconut, 3/5. The apple fritter style pastries was definitely my favorite out of them all. The outside was so buttery and flakey, and the apple filling wasn't overly sweet with a slight tart hint that really put it over the top for me, absolute perfection 4.9/5. The Calamansi Jasmine tea was a delightful little addition to my eats. It was more jasmine flavored than anything, but that's also one of my favorite tea flavors so I may be biased, but either way 4.5/5. Overall, I rate this place a 4.6/5!

Our guide Jennifer was a wealth of knowledge and so very fun to lead us through the history and operations of this business. The average person just doesn't appreciate all the work that goes into the foods that we eat. We saw the warehouse where the raw goods are stored and then onto the production floor! We saw the flour coming out into the massive vats, loaves coming out of ovens, focaccia going into convection ovens and all the steps in between. We were gifted an amazing bag of products that included a sweet baguette, sour battard, a bag of granola, bag of croutons, a morning bun, bag of cinnamon bread, biscotti and a bag of cinnamon bread. The yuzu curd is not too sweet, they really lean into the sour so it balances out the sweet bun nicely. The pandan bun is like nothing I've EVER had. It's the strongest pandan flavored anything I've ever had. You can smell the pandan before you even bite into it. It's a lot like a brioche bun (not dissimilar to challah in texture) with a pandan-flavored concha top. It has a cream-style pandan filling which is a SUPER strong pandan flavor. Yuzu Meringue Bun -- Spot on with the cruffin and meringue combination. The yuzu flavor was generous, although it leaned a little too tart for my personal preference. I wished there was more meringue -- perhaps having a layer of meringue in the center would have made it absolutely superb! Brown Butter Mochi Bites -- These were alright, but nothing particularly special. They were missing the signature mochi chewy texture, so they didn't quite feel "mochi" enough to truly be called mochi bites. Sesame Cookie -- Unfortunately, it was too hard and crisp for my liking. Crossubi -- A very unique concept and not bad overall. I just wish the interior wasn't quite as hollow; a little more filling would have elevated it.
