Cocktail buns 4 for $3.50! Of course we ate one already!

Much friendlier service than we just received at the yelp event restaurant! Very nice staff! Cute, small shop in Oakland's Chinatown :) Delicious cocktail buns! Yum! We really enjoyed them!

The stars of the show at this chinese bakery are the various savory buns - chicken mushroom, bbq pork, pineapple bun with pork, etc - as well as their egg tarts and whole cakes. You can get 3 of the mini pork buns for $1.75 or one for $.70 cents. Such a great deal. They also have about 15+ premade whole cakes and cake rolls ready for those who need it for a last-minute celebration. Note: they sell out of most of their items by around midday. Cash only, so come prepared.

Napoleon Super Bakery is wedged in between several other spots, and even next to another spot that touts "pastry", but isn't really a bread place so don't spend too much time deciding between the two. If you want bread, this is THE spot in Oakland Chinatown. It's not going to a flashy spot at all, which sort of lines up with most of the other places on this block, but don't get put off by its appearance. The bread here is not just cheap, but also quite tasty and offers a good variety of choices. The service here is good, but kind of manic at times because the people there will not have patience and will rush you if you take too long. Can't tell you how many times I've seen them get frustrated by people next to me who were taking a bit longer than usual. I get it, they're super busy almost all the time so just need to get people out with their bags or boxes of bread. They will have all of the bread needs you would want from a Chinese bakery. Some of my favorites here are the hotdog buns, the curry buns, the egg tarts, and really anything with green onions here. The breads here are cheap, and even cheap for Chinatown, as most places that aren't bakeries that try to sell the cheapo breads aren't even this cheap. Their breads here are also pretty big portion wise, and stuff like the curry buns have a decent amount of curry in there and flavored well. If you want good bread, good price, then Napoleon Super Bakery is your spot when you're in Oakland Chinatown. Really can't beat the price and quality. Just note, they are super busy almost all day round. They may have small windows (10-15 minutes) when they're not busy during the peak times, and if you see that window just dash in immediately because it'll line up right away soon after.

a family member had raved about this bakery so i was pretty excited to give it a try. there was a fairly long line despite the pouring rain but it still moved pretty fast. they showcased a variety of delicious baked goods so i had to get a variety of pastries. i got some mini sausage buns, mini pineapple bun, a custard filled pineapple bun, egg tarts, portuguese egg tarts, a napoleon, and a cream filled bun. the crust on the tarts were very buttery & flakey. my personal favorite were the mini sausage buns. overall, everything was a hit! had i eaten it fresh out of the oven, it would've tasted 10x better. i would comeback solely for their sausage buns.

My family ordered a birthday cake - typical one with the fruit and whipped cream. It was good! Not too sweet and delicious. I also come whenever I'm in the area to get bread and it's always delicious! Sometimes, there's a line but if you haven't tried their bread, I'd give it a try! They have the small pineapple buns and the hot dog bread. Plenty of pastry! I always pay with cash as most Chinatown small businesses don't take card or apple pay. Parking is always hard in Chinatown so good luck!

There is always a line of customers of all ages outside this place, which has a grab and go vibe. Behind the glass, there are many pastries for display, including cakes, buns, and hot snacks both sweet and savory. I went with my friend, and he had a craving for egg tarts while I was curious about their buns. I ended up trying their custard bun, red bun, and pineapple bun. My friend felt that the egg taste of the egg tart was slightly too strong, but he enjoyed the texture of the crust. Out of all the buns I tried, I enjoyed the custard bun the most and thought the red bun was slightly too sweet for my taste. I grabbed multiple pineapple buns for some friends, as they had a deal for most of the mini buns. We tried this bakery after finishing our lunch, but we would love to come back to try some of their savory treats.

I've been coming to this bakery since I was a child, and it's still one of my favorite spots. I have so many memories of stopping by every weekend for their delicious pastries. With the Moon Festival this week, I had to grab some of their fresh moon cakes. The service was quick and friendly, and even though there was a line, it moved fast. Just a heads-up--it's cash only. Be sure to try at least one savory and one sweet pastry; you'll fall in love with this place just like I have. Always support small businesses, and always support Chinatown Oakland!

As the other reviews mention, bring cash and be certain of what you're going to order! This was our first time visiting, and as my husband waited in the short line in the morning around 9:30am, I went up to look at the options they had. Totally forgot to take pictures but if remembering correctly, they had egg tarts ($2), pineapple buns ($3 for 4 large size, $2 for 4 smaller size), other pineapple buns with filling inside such as coconut and cream, and hot dog buns. I made the mistake of asking for more items after my initial order and the lady visibly got annoyed, lol, but it is what it is. The egg tarts are good, and the pineapple buns can be a little buttery but also not bad. Parking was a little challenging but we eventually found a spot on the street. We wouldn't mind coming again.

Date: 1/18/2025 Time: 4:00 PM 53° Cool As many times I have walked by this bakery, I have never went in until earlier today because the line of waiting customers is always long. After having lunch at Yung Kee, I am craving something sweet. I can no longer walk by, and I stand in line. Since it is my first time at Napoleon, the only thing I have in mind is a slice of a lemon filled sponge cake roll. There isn't any. All right, I decide to purchase a butter cream bun, two egg tarts and a savory cake roll. Total cost: $7.00. (Cash only) The egg tart is not overly sweet. The crust is flakey and quite good. Yum; no more going to SF Chinatown to Golden Gate Bakery for my egg tarts. This bakery is closer to my home. I inhale over half of the butter cream bun. It is addicting, moist creamy sweet butter. I know my glucose reading will be up tomorrow. I do not crave sweets that often. Thus, I feel once in a while does not hurt. Life is short, so I might as well enjoy the butter cream bun and egg tart.

Easy and cheap pastry grab. Quick service, not friendly. Have cash and do NOT add anything additional to your order!!! Have your complete order up front. Not a large bakery, they put whatever they have in the cases. Tidy- not glamorous. This isn't a pleasant and heartfelt business. You come here for a reason. The delicious and reasonably priced baked goods.

Napoleon is your standard no frills Chinese bakery located in Oakland Chinatown. There's usually a line of 4-5 people lingering outside, but it goes quickly and it's typically a 10ish minute wait. It's pretty close to Ruby King, another popular local bakery; however, I haven't been there enough times to compare with Napoleon. I haven't ordered a huge variety of items here to get a sense of all their offerings, but have typically stuck with their egg tarts ($1.75 each), pre-packaged almond cookies ($2.50 for a pack of 8 medium ones), some other weird pre-packaged cookies (don't quote me, but I believe it's made of meat) that my mom likes, sticky rice (zhongzi at $4 a pop), and the occasional random baked goods like pineapple buns. The quality of the baked goods is decent given the price point. It's not knock your socks off good, but good enough to keep us coming back for more. The zhongzi is pretty solid and they're not stingy on the ingredients. Just a heads up though - the zhongzi will either be freshly cooked or frozen. They'll tell you that in advance to see if you still want it. We usually take it home to freeze and eat later so it makes no difference to us. Service is average for Chinatown - some ladies are friendly while others will scold customers that are being annoying LOL. As with many places in Chinatown, it's cash only. Forget about getting an itemized receipt. The last time we asked for one, they simply printed out a paper receipt with just the total amount paid, no itemization. So folks, do the math quickly in your head before paying so you know whether you're being charged the correct amount. Street parking only - during peak times, you may need to circle around quite a bit before being able to snag a spot. Overall, this is a popular bakery spot that locals go to that also happens to sell sticky rice. Will be back.

Go to bakery in Oakland Chinatown! Most days there's a line out the door so come early. I normally go for their eggtarts or their mini pineapple buns with pork. They had an assortment of mooncakes during the weeks leading up to the mid-autumn festival this year. They have unique flavors outside of the normal lotus ones. I really liked the black sesame mooncake! It wasn't too sweet and was flavorful. Cash only. Street parking or garage parking only.

Simple and no frills, bring cash and patience if the line is long. My go to is the 6 mini pineapple buns for $4! You can't beat that! It's a very local feel type bakery with middle aged women hustling about , just know what you want and be quick.

There are glass cases full of breads, cakes, eclairs, tarts and other delicious looking baked goods. On the top of the cases are jars with a variety of cookies to choose from, as well as, one of my favorites, their lemon shortbread bar. The lemon shortbread bar is amazing. They stack the wedges in a large lidded glass jar, each wedge separated with a sheet of white parchment paper. I believe this is one of the hidden gems at La Farine. The shortbread crust Is tender and buttery and hold holds it shape well when you bite into it. The lemon curd is creamy with the right amount of tang, and there is a thin sweet layer of crunch on top of curd that puts this bar over the top. The balance of textures and flavors is perfect. I also highly recommend the chocolate eclairs. Each one is filled with a generous amount of piped whipped cream, a pate choux with good flavor and texture, and topped with a rich, silky layer of chocolate ganache. Overall their prices are reasonable -lemon shortbread bar $3, and chocolate eclair 3.50. I decided to give La Farine four stars because on a previous visit I had a slice of the Moka cake, and was not impressed. It is an attractive and delicious looking cake with lovely pale moka colored frosting surrounding layers of dark chocolate cake, however, the frosting lacked the coffee and chocolate flavor combo that I was looking forward to, and sadly the frosting was more waxy than creamy. That being said, I will definitely be back to search for the next delicious gems at this very lovely bakery on Piedmont Ave.

I simply was not interested in signing anything or stopping to discuss a petition at that moment. It escalated to the point where two other women nearby also felt uncomfortable enough to respond.
