I love their daily vegetarian pizza offerings! Stopped in earlier this week after visiting a friend in the area for a slice of pizza ($3.75) and 2 cookies ($2.50 each or $14 for half dozen). The pizza of the day was green+black olives, fennel, red onions, lemon zest, chili flakes, and parmesan cheese --- atop a sourdough thin crust. Tasty and affordable! They give you an extra 1-inch sliver of pizza with the slice too. For the cookies, I selected the pecan chocolate chip and a vegan chocolate mint. Cookies were good, but it seemed like they had been sitting out for longer than they should and had a slightly stale taste. I should have asked if they could have reheated the cookies. There's a few drinks available in the refrigerated section, or you can get coffee to pair with your pizza and/or bakery item. There's also a self service water station by the cashier too. Indoor seating has about 4 tables with a row of about 5 stool seats facing the window. There's 2 outdoor patio tables for 2 as well. Parking is street metered. read more

Fantastic bakery, I appreciate how they don't close in the early afternoon like many bakeries do. I got the pizza of the day which had Roma tomatoes, red onions, basil pesto, and mozzarella. Arizmendi is my absolute FAVORITE. I've been coming here for about 20 years and will continue to for as long as I am capable. Sometimes, the pizzas are a little overcooked which causes the crust to be extra crispy and a little burnt. But it doesn't change the deliciousness of it. It doesn't matter what they put on the pizza of the day, I know it's going to be tasty. Arizmendi's pizza 100% makes me forget about meat on pizza. I have tried a couple of their baked goods, which have always been good as well. They also have soups of the day, which I surprisingly haven't tried. If you're ordering more than 1 pizza, I'd recommend calling ahead of time so that you don't have to wait a while. There's typically 2 cashiers, always a small line, but you'd be in and out under 30 minutes max. No music, just the sounds of pure hustle trying to get everyone served. There is limited indoor and outdoor seating so keep that in mind. Parking may be tricky as well as there are a lot of surrounding businesses. read more

About once a month or so, I like to treat myself to either a pastry or a slice of pizza from this neighborhood bakery because it's always such an affordable, pleasant, and delicious experience! Pastries range in prices but there's many options under $5. And a slice of pizza is $3 and some change. Earlier this afternoon, I stopped in and decided on a slice of their pizza of the day - the perfect blend of kale, grilled onions, garlic, and cheese in a hefty slice. Even though the place was crowded, the staff member that checked me out was just as friendly and nice as usual. One challenge of coming here that came up today is that people are often stationed near the crosswalk or in front of the restaurant asking for signatures for various causes. Everyone has causes they care about, and many of us do our own advocacy in different ways, but not everyone wants to sign petitions while trying to cross the street or grab lunch. Today, one person became very insistent when I politely declined. He then accused me (and apparently others) of not wanting to engage because of his skin color, which was completely inappropriate and inaccurate. My decision had nothing to do with our skin .. I simply was not interested in signing anything or stopping to discuss a petition at that moment. It escalated to the point where two other women nearby also felt uncomfortable enough to respond. One said, "This is not the way to do it," and another said, "I don't even have money." It was unfortunate that his approach put people in that position. Just a heads up for anyone visiting: be prepared to be approached at the crosswalk, especially since the light can be long. On a positive note: the pizzeria itself was busy, but everyone inside was pleasant, I found a quiet corner to sit, the coffee was warm, and my $3 slice and $1.25 coffee hit the spot. read more

We picked up some food here to take to Fairyland. The area is busy on the weekends and we had to park up the street. Absolutely do not try to park in the Trader Joe's parking lot. You will get stuck there! The store is small and crowded. I docked them one star because of the layout. The line for the cash registers is right next to the display of pastries. It is kind of chaotic with everyone reaching over each other to get pastries in a small space. Fortunately the other patrons were very nice and let us back in line after we picked out our items. The pizza which is vegetarian is definitely their best offering. Toppings change every day and they only make one kind of pizza. You order at the cash register and wait about 5-10 minutes for them to finish baking it. We shared a bench table with another patron while we were waiting. They don't have a lot of seating, so it's probably best to take the items to go. The pizza we got had bell pepper, onions, Gouda cheese, mozzarella, fennel oil. The crust is thin and crunchy. All of the flavors worked very well together and we all ended up eating much more pizza than we wanted. Even the meat eaters ate a lot of the pizza! Pizzas are very reasonably priced at $25, however, they are thin and on the small side, so definitely order more than what you think you need. They also keep and reheat well. We also picked up two boxes of salad to round out our meal. I am very thankful that they have some healthier options. Salads were very fresh and the vinaigrettes were absolutely delicious. They had some interesting toppings, like watermelon, radish, and Kalamata olives. We got a couple of other things such as the chocolate chip cookie, peanut butter, cookie, blueberry coffee, cake, corn muffin. These items are rather large and a little bit more expensive, so you might think about sharing them. Baked goods, have a very "rustic" quality to them. Sort of like if you made it at home from scratch. They are the exact opposite of the super light and fluffy things you'd find at a Korean bakery. For example, the coffee cake seemed a little dense and had some chewiness to it. The cookies were hard on the outside and a little soft on the inside. This is not a bad thing. It is just different! Overall, I highly recommend this bakery if you are in the area. Just be prepared for the crowds and a little bit of chaos before you get your tasty treats! read more

My favs: Daily Pizza Pecan Chocolate Chip Cookie Zucchini Bread They provide a daily pizza menu and I can say every one tastes great! My fav is the pesto and zucchini combination. I also get a fresh side salad and iced tea. This is a CoOP.,, they are quick and efficient. They make the pizzas one after another so you always receive a fresh slice right out of the oven. The dough is so good, I'm unsure if it's a sourdough crust but it's definitely unique. The pizza is thin with high quality toppings. The bakery items are also fresh and meet various dietary needs. This location is smaller but they do have seating outside. Parking is challenging so you might have to park on the street behind. During my visit this week, we ate here twice!!! Arizmendi bakery is our local go-to place for the best pastries. In addition they also have special pizzas and soups. You walk in and it's a grab and serve yourself from dozens of goods on the rack. We went this morning and got a wide variety of pastries. First off is the Chocolate Thing, which only is made on Sundays, likely because it's so complicated to make, but nonetheless very delicious. It's a soft bun with large chocolate chunks. Very unique as it's not sweet bread but regular. Then the Cheese Rolls are also delicious, very tangy and strong in cheese. If you get the special version, which I suggest, it comes with roasted vegetables too. Scones are always a treat. Always has new and exciting "pizza of the days" and never fails to hit when you really need it to. i've been going here ever since i was 4 and it's consistently been the place to visit each time i come back to the bay. The workers are very sweet and positive! location wise, the area has gotten better but you are in oakland so never let your guard down imo. A Steller place to get baked goods. We went on a Saturday afternoon around 1pm and there was a line out the door. After standing in the line, you get to the front and have your pick of pastries. Then that's when it gets confusing. How do you pay? Do you get back in line and walk out the door to pay for your goodies or since you stood in the line already you just back into the line in front of everyone. We were lucky and the gal in the front of the line said we could go in front of her. We were quick, naming out all of our goodies so I didn't feel bad, but I'd really like to know the protocol of how to pay for your stuff if there is a line that you stood in once. The pastries were good. I got the cheese roll. I bet it would have been better if I heated it up, but it was still good cold. It was tasty and chewy. I also got the banana bread slice.
