Arizmendi Bakery is a Bay Area institution and it absolutely earns the hype. The pizza alone is worth the trip -- they only do one flavor a day, but whatever's on the rotation is consistently incredible. Thick, chewy, perfectly charred crust with a sourdough tang that you just don't get from regular pizza dough. Toppings are fresh and generous without being overloaded. Grab a slice (or a whole pie) and you'll understand why people plan their day around what flavor is being served. The sourdough bread is just as good -- crackly crust, open airy crumb, and that deep tangy flavor that tells you it's been properly fermented. This isn't supermarket sourdough; it's the kind of loaf that makes plain butter taste like a gourmet experience. It's a worker-owned cooperative too, which makes supporting them feel even better. Expect a line, especially on weekends, but it moves quickly and is so worth the wait.

Pizza of the day & pecan chocolate chip cookie

Fantastic bakery, I appreciate how they don't close in the early afternoon like many bakeries do. I got the pizza of the day which had Roma tomatoes, red onions, basil pesto, and mozzarella. I also got the pecan chocolate chip cookie. Prices are very affordable too! Pizza was delicious. The thin crispy sourdough was very tasty and the pizza was piping hot with lots of flavor. Pecan chocolate chip was good too, chewy with good balance of flavors. Would recommend.

Neighborhood bakery with delicious pizza and baked goods Stopped by Arizmendi Bakery in Oakland and picked up some pizza and bakery items. Everything tasted fresh, homemade, and made with care. The pizza was simple but satisfying. The crust had a great texture, crispy on the outside with a nice chew inside and the toppings were fresh and flavorful. You can tell they focus on quality ingredients rather than overloading the pizza. The bakery items were just as enjoyable. Freshly baked, not overly sweet, and perfect with a cup of coffee or as a snack to take home. It's the kind of place where it's hard to leave without grabbing a few extra treats. Service was friendly and efficient, and the staff were happy to answer questions about the day's offerings. The vibe is warm, casual, and community-oriented. There's a neighborhood charm to the bakery that makes it feel welcoming and authentic. Overall, a great local spot for fresh pizza, quality baked goods, and a cozy atmosphere. I'll definitely be back to see what seasonal items they have next time.

Arizmendi is my absolute FAVORITE. I've been coming here for about 20 years and will continue to for as long as I am capable. Sometimes, the pizzas are a little overcooked which causes the crust to be extra crispy and a little burnt. But it doesn't change the deliciousness of it. It doesn't matter what they put on the pizza of the day, I know it's going to be tasty. Arizmendi's pizza 100% makes me forget about meat on pizza. I have tried a couple of their baked goods, which have always been good as well. They also have soups of the day, which I surprisingly haven't tried. If you're ordering more than 1 pizza, I'd recommend calling ahead of time so that you don't have to wait a while. There's typically 2 cashiers, always a small line, but you'd be in and out under 30 minutes max. No music, just the sounds of pure hustle trying to get everyone served. There is limited indoor and outdoor seating so keep that in mind. Parking may be tricky as well as there are a lot of surrounding businesses.

Today's pizza wasn't that good, but worst part was the unpleasant hair finding. Sucks! Below average plus hair. Last time visiting this spot.

    Like I said, it's a muffin party.

Still great but my frosted cinnamon roll was a tad dry. I've been coming here so long that I now qualify for the senior discount!!

We picked up some food here to take to Fairyland. The area is busy on the weekends and we had to park up the street. Absolutely do not try to park in the Trader Joe's parking lot. You will get stuck there! The store is small and crowded. I docked them one star because of the layout. The line for the cash registers is right next to the display of pastries. It is kind of chaotic with everyone reaching over each other to get pastries in a small space. Fortunately the other patrons were very nice and let us back in line after we picked out our items. The pizza which is vegetarian is definitely their best offering. Toppings change every day and they only make one kind of pizza. You order at the cash register and wait about 5-10 minutes for them to finish baking it. We shared a bench table with another patron while we were waiting. They don't have a lot of seating, so it's probably best to take the items to go. The pizza we got had bell pepper, onions, Gouda cheese, mozzarella, fennel oil. The crust is thin and crunchy. All of the flavors worked very well together and we all ended up eating much more pizza than we wanted. Even the meat eaters ate a lot of the pizza! Pizzas are very reasonably priced at $25, however, they are thin and on the small side, so definitely order more than what you think you need. They also keep and reheat well. We also picked up two boxes of salad to round out our meal. I am very thankful that they have some healthier options. Salads were very fresh and the vinaigrettes were absolutely delicious. They had some interesting toppings, like watermelon, radish, and Kalamata olives. We got a couple of other things such as the chocolate chip cookie, peanut butter, cookie, blueberry coffee, cake, corn muffin. These items are rather large and a little bit more expensive, so you might think about sharing them. Baked goods, have a very "rustic" quality to them. Sort of like if you made it at home from scratch. They are the exact opposite of the super light and fluffy things you'd find at a Korean bakery. For example, the coffee cake seemed a little dense and had some chewiness to it. The cookies were hard on the outside and a little soft on the inside. This is not a bad thing. It is just different! Overall, I highly recommend this bakery if you are in the area. Just be prepared for the crowds and a little bit of chaos before you get your tasty treats!

We started with the pizza which is amazing! Don't fret about the line outside as it moves quickly. We purchased the seeded loaf and walnut sourdough for home. Their bread is some of the best bread you'll ever have

I was in the area of Lakeshore and stopped into Arizmendi Bakery. They have delicious baked goods and pizza! There is always a line of people going into this bakery. Though, it moves quickly. It's a self-serve and then pay at the cashier. The bakery is small. No seats or tables or restrooms. *Ginger & Stout Loaf (4/5) - moist, gingery spicy and zesty with full bodied stout richness. I liked this! *Cherry & Corn Scone (3.5/5) - corn meal mixed in with dried cherries. My wife loves scones. I need something to drink whenever I eat one. *English Muffin - will update later. I like coming to this bakery whenever I am in the area. Support your local business.

IT WAS SO GOOD. I was stopping by trader joes when I noticed a line of people going into Arizmendi. I stopped by to take a look and found that people were lining up for.... Vegetarian pizza??? I wasn't sure why there were so many people but my bf and I decided to try it and we got a half pizza of their daily special and it was SO GOOD. So crispy and flavorful it was amazingggggggggggggggg I am constantly stalking their instagram for their daily specials and can't wait to go back again!! Limited seating inside and slightly crowded!

Parking is a bit hard when it's the weekend. But line moves pretty fast. Came on Saturday. Ordered a half baked pizza. Warmed it up when we got home and it was delicious. Today was potato and red bell pepper and yummmmmmy! We've had a couple others before and all were good. Love coming by when we're in the area

Arizmendi is a staple in Oakland! I found this place years ago and when I lived here I was a weekly customer. My favs: Daily Pizza Pecan Chocolate Chip Cookie Zucchini Bread They provide a daily pizza menu and I can say every one tastes great! My fav is the pesto and zucchini combination. I also get a fresh side salad and iced tea. This is a CoOP.,, they are quick and efficient. They make the pizzas one after another so you always receive a fresh slice right out of the oven. The dough is so good, I'm unsure if it's a sourdough crust but it's definitely unique. The pizza is thin with high quality toppings. The bakery items are also fresh and meet various dietary needs. This location is smaller but they do have seating outside. Parking is challenging so you might have to park on the street behind. During my visit this week, we ate here twice!!! I love the fact they shut it down for staff vacation. Which is well deserved! I love you guys:/ I wish I was a staff member.

400 degrees, 5-10 minutes. I always buy light baked as we only heat up half of the pizza at a time. And they don't charge sales tax since it's cold.

Crust had some char and could use some more bubbling in the center. Not sure if the temperature or thermal mass of the oven is just a tad low. Sauce was also excellent. Overall, again the best New Haven pizza I've had on the west coast. By New Haven standards, a solid B+. Price was a bit expensive. Judging by the line out the door, that was not impeding sales in any way although the parking lot and beards suggest a healthy dot com and rich AI hipster contingent. There's a microbrewery next door and many people were walking their pizza over to have brews and pizza. Four stars means I'd definitely go if hungry but not sure if I'd drive out of my way to go.

I don't know why the pies cost so much, but they are only a few blocks from our place, so I want to support the few restaurants that set up shop in West Oakland. However, I'm starting to sour on this place. I don't mind overpaying for pizza; that's just edible, but on a few occasions, I've been appalled by what these folks try to get away with. A couple of months ago, they gave us a pie that was so burnt I had to call to complain, and they replaced it with a less burnt pie. Perhaps they don't know that extremely burnt food is full of carcinogens. This week, we ordered our usual 18-inch pie. This pie was a Frankenstein pie; half of it tasted like it had been sitting under the lamp all day. A telltale sign is how stiff the cheese is; the old dough feels as if I'm chewing on rubber, and the slices are stiff and salty overall, though some slices taste a bit fresher and crunchier. I was disappointed. If you're going to overcharge for mediocre pizza, the least you could do is give people what they are paying for. If I wanted old, stale pizza, I would've asked for the slices that sit under the lamp all day. Moving forward, if we order from this place, I will walk over, place the order, and wait for it, so we don't get cheated again. This place is a reminder of why certain restaurants often fail. The food is overpriced, and they are inconsistent with their service, if not disrespectful, in how they sometimes treat and feed their customers. We're not pigs; we just like eating the sweet little pig.

Finally got to try this Cali version of NY Pizza. I prefer these thin and crisp styles of pizzas…read moreover any other style...over deep dish, Detroit, suburban medium crust and even Neapolitan. Straight preference. Upon walking in this hole in the wall urban space I knew it was going to be decent to special. First no frills look, nothing fancy or hip, just a utilitarian vibe, where even though we don't have a subway system, it feels like one could have gotten off a train and straight into this store once you hit street level. The smell of NY style pizza also is thick in the air, the smell of baked yeast mingling with a melding of tomato sauce and sparse cheese. And this was all before I even received and/or tasted a slice. Pizzas by slice can be had, they have about 6 you can choose from. They par bake whole pies and just reheat the slices, which is super legit. That reheating makes a slice more crisp, which I tend to swoon for. And if you get it in slice form, it will get handed to you within 5 minutes. You can get whole pies here and I'm sure those are better called in as you can use your travel time as the wait time. Cheese Slice ($5/4.5*) Perfectly thin and crisp. And the sauce and cheese is so sparse and in balance that it won't weigh that thin crust down at all. The cheese is so sparse that there will be no cheese pull, which I think Californians don't understand/prefer. Cept I love it cuz it isn't as rich and oily. I do kinda wish the sauce had more umph but after a sprinkle of oregano and red pepper flakes, it turns out just fine. I also think the outer edge of the crust is a bit too big and tough, like you really have to chew that mofo. But I like to roll my slices so that crust is intergrated with the rest so it balances everything out nicely. And I ate this in one hand as I roamed the streets of Uptown. The crisp bites, the tomato and light cheese tandem all mingled with urban city air and just made perfect sense. Pepperoni ($5.50/4*) They use good quality pepperoni, small but thick slices. Definitely makes it greasier which may make this a one and done for me. Wish I could have added mushrooms to this to balance it out more, cuz as is, is just too salty and one note for me. But to a basic bish pepperoni eater, this should fit the bill just fine. But I'll round up to a fiver cuz we simply don't have many of these out here, so to offer this within my reach is quite the lucky circumstance. Gotta give them props on making my bar hopping for this area much more complete and complimentary. Hells ya!

The cost of a whole pizza is $25, which is on the steeper side given that there is no protein.

Live in Jack London square but haven't tried Heshers since the Crooked City Cider changeover. So glad I gave this a try. While Heshers gives this punk rock, aggro vibe online, inside the staff were warm and super friendly. My bartender helped me find the right drink (a Humboldt blueberry cider at 11% abv) and then I ordered the Meat Fungus pizza (lots of ground meat plus mushrooms). Sat at the bar and enjoyed my cider as well as convo with the other guests and bartender. In about 20 min, my pizza was ready. I took everything to go but was home in minutes. Couldn't wait for the first bite, and was NOT disappointed. Crisp crust pizza... not quite Detroit. Not Sicilian... def not New York style. But absolutely delicious. Came with a few packets of Parmesan and crushed peppers. Added it all and it was too good to leave a single slice for tomorrow. I'll be back, Heshers! Take my money! And thank you!

Ordered a pizza to go from Hesher's and it definitely delivered!…read more First off, the theme here is unapologetically metal. The decor, the attitude, and the music all lean into it--they were blasting metal while I was there, which gives the place a fun, high-energy vibe that feels a little different from your typical pizza spot. If you're into that scene, you'll probably love it. The setup is super casual. You order at the counter and can hang out while you wait. They've got a great beer selection, and there's even an arcade area where you can play some games while your food is being made. It feels like the kind of place where you could easily kick back with friends for a while. I went with the Mortian, their all-meat pizza, and it was absolutely packed with toppings--pepperoni, sausage, and bacon, all garnished with prosciutto. If you're a meat lover, this one delivers. Every slice was loaded and really flavorful. The crust deserves a shout-out too. It's not thin crust, but it's also not deep dish. It lands right in that perfect middle zone--crunchy on the outside and chewy on the inside. Really satisfying and a great base for all those toppings. Even though I ordered it to go, the pizza held up great and was seriously delicious. I'd absolutely order their pizza again and look forward to trying more of the menu next time.
