Dropped of a car for some work and thought we would try here again. And they are closed on Mon& Tues. Dumb!!!!
    Richard B.

We have been waiting to try this place since Coffee Culture closed and today was the day. This is going to be one of those the good, the bad and the ugly layouts. I had a drip coffee and my partner had a iced Americano since they were out of cold brew. We'll start with the bad.... Sunday around 12 and not only was the place 110 degrees inside it was super humid to the point where it's difficult to breath. Also, out of cold brew, as mentioned, and out of almost all pastries. I got my coffee pretty quick but the iced Americano took for ever. Hers was ok and initially I thought mine was alright but the more I drank the more I realized it was wrong. Just wrong and they use Mr. Espresso coffee which is usually pretty good stuff when done right. On to the ugly.... While driving my partners drink started leaking around the lid and a little further down the road  mine was dripping from the bottom on me and my car. What a mess. Time for the good... Wait there was no good. We will try it again in the future maybe early in the day on a weekday and see how it is.

New shop on the corner block with some nice outdoor seating. The drink menu has a good variety and I ordered the Sea Salt Cheese LATTE (iced) as I normally don't see it on coffee menus. If you like sweet and salty, Thai one is for you! Now the baked goods are what catch your eye here. All kinds of shapes and sizes. Come hungry because it will be hard to choose which to try- savory, sweet, or both The details are pretty and makes for nice photographs! As mentioned before, almost too pretty to eat. Almost all are done it a croissant style- so although the shape differs - you will still find the thin layers of pastry. Some are a little more crunchy on the outside than others but the flavors are spot on. The almond paste and sweet cream was subtle sweet with a nice freshness. The Beef cup has Wagyu beef, potato, cheese, and teriyaki. It's filling and flavorful. If you show up an hour before closing, the amount of baked goods available will be scarce. So don't be like me! Haha get there early.

Ones is getting you in shape! Sorry, not for hot girl summer tho. Ones has some of the most visually stunning viennoiseries I've seen and they're in various shapes: bows, moons, spiral, onigiri, rectangular prism, and more. Family run, Ones opened their first bakery in Castro Valley in the fall of 2023 and opened their second location in Alameda earlier this month. We were in the area and had time to kill so we drove by Saturday morning around 9:30 am. I was shocked to find only 4 people in line and there was rarely a line for the 30 minutes we were there. Maybe we got lucky? M E N U French-style, savory and sweet viennoiseries with AZN flavors. Upon request, they can warm up your items. They also sell tea, matcha, coffee, espresso drinks, and bottled drinks. Self-serve water available. P I C K S [Team Savory] * Butter Croissant ($4.50) Technique was there, crispy and flaky with distinct laminated layers. It had a light, airy texture with a nice chew, tho plain and not much buttery flavor. * Spam Bacon Mushroom Danish ($7) You had me at SPAM! Our fav of the bunch, this danish had a shatteringly crispy, flaky pastry wrapped around a rich, savory mushroom filling that reminds me of a creamy mushroom bisque with torched cheese. While delicious, I wished there had been more spam to add a smokier, meatier bite. * Wagyu Beef Cup ($8) A cup shaped croissant that's filled with diced potatoes, several slices of wagyu, and topped with mozzarella. If you like roast beef and potatoes, this will be your jam. Since it was potato heavy, it felt bland and one note. Some herbs, spices, or seasoning would have made this stand out more. * Spicy Lemongrass Chicken Croissant ($7.99) Reminiscent of a pain suisse, the laminated layers were dense and sturdy. It was filled with tender, lemongrass-marinated chicken thighs. Maybe they played it safe but I found the flavor and spice level too mild (IMO, the pickle was not needed). I just wish the chicken had been cut into smaller pieces so it was more evenly distributed, instead of ending up with bites that were mostly pastry. * Strawberry Moon ($7.99) Adorable moon shape! Unfortunately, I didn't try this until the next morning and the cream filling had liquified so eat this ASAP. We also bought a box of viennoiseries for others: butter croissant x2, spam bacon mushroom danish x2, wagyu beef cup, ham & cheese croissant, and chocolate croissant. Their feedback: Everything was ok/fine. S E R V I C E Cordial and prompt. A M B I A N C E Lovely, shaded outdoor patio. There's a few tables inside and some window counter seats. Restroom available. P A R K I N G There's no parking lot and it was very difficult to find street parking so you may want to drop someone off to order. Overall, Ones has visually stunning pastries so I can see why it's become so popular in the East Bay. The craftsmanship and presentation are there but I I found myself wanting more flavor.

Second time coming here. Parking can be difficult, but aside from seats inside-they have a nice outdoor patio area to bring the pup. Prices are average. The pastries are definitely very pretty aesthetically. Out of the pastries we got, the ham and cheese croissant, French tart, and strawberry crescent have been our favorites. The pup thought the ham and cheese croissant looked the most appealing too. Coffee is decent, but they should change their cups to a better material. Within 5 minutes of getting the coffee, the cup started leaking and collapsing on itself causing a giant mess! Other than that, another solid bakery addition in Alameda!

Ones Cafe & Bakery opened recently where Coffee Cultures was. Interior infrastructure modified to add a display case for their artisan bakes in main building. Same patio seating remains. This is their 2d location of a family biz of family & friends. Parking is quite difficult here. Main possibility is a commercial strip across the street. Short line moved fast. Service satisfied in minutes. Bakes have influences from European sources. Croissant variants most prominent. Sparse selection late noon. Picked 2 that look different. Luckily I sliced them in half before eating or there would have a messy "accident". Beverages short list of coffee and the usual lattes..... Sips: hot drip: Mr. Espresso Ethiopia (3.75) -hot and slightly harsh at lst sip. Light roast. When it cooled it was satisfying smooth and easy siping. Bites: Caramel Crumble (7.50) -has a lot of liquid caramel that spilled over the sides of the multilayered crunchy confection. If I bit into it whole, a mess is probable. Nice white topping with a cinnamon tinge. Pistachio Kataifi Croissant (9.50) -multi layered crispiness with flavors embedded within same layers. Never had Dubai chocolate before. Ingredients present (pistachio butter, tahini, dark chocolate et al) define Dubai Chocolate. Flavor here very subtle. 4ish stars Worthy! service: fab. Qualtiy: impeccable. Flavors need tweaks to be brilliantly subtle or boldly pronounced. Quantiy: reasonable. Parking issues deters a repeat. Castro Valley a better choice.

TLDR: Ones is a great replacement and offers coffee and pastries that are almost too pretty to eat. Although saddened about coffee culture no longer being here, Ones is a great replacement. The pastries are so pretty! The way you can see every layer of the croissant is perfection. The staff are friendly despite the crowd and early mornings. The first time I came was on a Wednesday morning right before they opened at 7AM and there were already people there! Luckily, they had all the things that early so we tried the beef cup, orange creme brulee, sweet cheese, mushroom/spam/bacon, ube and strawberry moons, brownie fruit tarte, lemongrass chicken... almost one of everything hahaha! - Beef cup was warmed up for us and it was delicious! I never had mini breakfast potatoes inside a croissant before. Genius! - orange creme brulee wasn't my fave as it's heavy on the orange flavor. - sweet cheese was really pretty in a shape of a bow. but the cream flavor wasn't coming through for me. It was meh. - mushroom/spam/bacon was surprisingly not too salty! It was quickly the group's favorite savory pastry. - ube and strawberry moons looked cool, but it was disappointing. The creams didn't taste like their flavor and the cream doesn't fill the moon edges. - brownie fruit tart was cool, but waaay too sweet with the baked brownie in the middle. we agreed that it would have been enjoyed as just a fruit tart pastry by itself. - The lemongrass chicken is spicy but the chicken has great seasoning. Definitely warm this one up a bit. The second time I went was a Wed afternoon at 12:30PM and they ran out of most of the pastries. They were only replenshing a few things. And this time, they a few different pastries but I didn't get them. I ordered their salted cheese latte and it was yummy! Glad I work in Alameda to get a treat from here! It's worth aaalll the hype!

My partner wanted to grab some pastries from here and we got a chocolate croissant, egg tart and curry chicken pastry. The croissant was a little crispy and needed a little more chocolate. The egg tart was fluffy and flakey. The curry chicken was delicuous, just needed more chicken. Overall, a solid visit! I would mainly get the egg tart in the future again!

Such a wonderful selection of sweet and savory treats. I loved having the opportunity to sit on the patio to enjoy my treats. Loved the spam bacon mushroom. The flakiness before biting into the savory center was amazing. I was hoping to love the pineapple orange kouign aman. The outside was bland for my taste and the fruits did not wow me. Can't wait to come back and try more bakery treats! Welcome to Alameda, Ones Cafe!

    Sarah Z.

Their spicy lemongrass chicken is THE BEST! Get it heated and eat it right there. Very delicious. Also got the fruit pastry with brownie inside--this one was okay since the brownie and stuffing made it not as flakey. Potato cup was p good as well!

My 1st time stopping in at One's cafe & bakery. The interior is clean and small. It was early afternoon so they were already out of most of their baked goods. I had the decaf Americana and a spam/bacon pastry. The coffee and baked goods were good. The croissant was so fresh, light and crunchy. There is a sunny and spacious back patio to sit outside and enjoy your food. I don't think I've ever been to a real coffee shop such as this one that offers their cream only in the small plastic to go cups, I needed a few for my coffee. This is something I'm used to seeing at a spot that may sell coffee, but not as their main business. In this area I usually find a container that offers cream and at least one non-dairy option. This is why I took off one star and will likely go to neighboring spots when I'm treating myself to coffee away from home.

    Matcha Latte and Orange Latte

Hooray! So glad to have Ones cafe now in Alameda and there's no need to drive to Castro Valley! Yes, the line has been long, but it wasn't bad this morning when we arrived at 7:50am and was first in line! Probably not on the weekends, but if you can come during weekdays during this summer, check it out! What we got: - Matcha Latte - Orange Latte - French Tart - Orange Blossom Kouign Amann - Turkey Bacon Stick - Chocolate Croissant The experience: Both drinks were amazing quality! Matcha Latte was fully of the matcha goodness and we like how it had that good matcha taste without being sweet (just how matcha should be without excessive sugar, syrup, or artificial sweetener). Orange Latte was delicious as well with a good balance of orange taste and good tasting coffee. Both drinks served at a good temperature that wasn't burning hot that was heart warming on a cold summer day (yes! It's been an interesting summer weather here in the Bay with way below daily temperatures). Pastries were tasty as well. We gobbled down everything among two adults and two toddlers. My personal favorite is the French tart and the orange blossom kouign amann. French tart was flaky and crisp on the outside and the egg custard in the middle was savory and perfect custard. Orange blossom kouign amann will be my next go to from now. Love how the orange blossom filling tasted along with the nice crisp outside pastry layers. On a good sunny day, the courtyard seating would be perfect being in the middle of the buildings, but also having a nice wind tunnel effect. We will be back! Special shoutout to E, E and H! You know who you are!

Stopped by for a box of pastries and coffee at 10am on a Sunday before hitting the beach. Got a chocolate croissant, spicy lemongrass chicken, beef cup, and kouign amann. Good flaky pastries with tasty fillings. 8.5/10.

Ginger only as a treat. Savory and sweet offerings. Beef, chicken and bacon sandwiches. Strawberry, chocolate and French pastry. RICH is the main descriptor. Great taste but limited ability to eat a lot of it.

I came in around 8:30, a few tables outside had people drinking their coffees and eating breakfast. When I walked in, only one guy was waiting for his order. There was only one person working. Although I haven't tried many of their drinks, I can say that their matcha latte has been consistently good. Today I ordered one with almond milk and the matcha flavor is nicely balanced. Good ratio between matcha and milk. The matcha itself tastes pretty well rounded - not bitter, but also not too subtle in flavor. I probably got the matcha here like three times and it has not failed me yet. My partner really enjoys the Malasada but they can sell out pretty quickly. Previously I've tried their Ube Crinkle and their donuts and they were pretty good as well. This time, I wanted something a little less sweet and small so I tried the Bibingka which was great! I love mochi and the Bibingka had a mochi texture to it. It comes with some pineapple bits which I tend to avoid, but my desire to try something new overrode that today and thankfully, the bits were small. It's a dense little bite, but I enjoyed it! A perfect little bike treat. I don't get much interaction here with the workers since it's such a quick stop, but it's okay. I think depending on what time you go, it just gets really busy and employees are just trying to chug out the orders. We'll be back again for those delicious drinks and pastries though!
